Creative Alliance is a true Baltimore gem that keeps the city's arts scene thriving. We've made Get Mortified an annual tradition and gladly drive 2.5 hours from Pennsylvania every year -- it's always worth it. The hosts are welcoming, the energy is great, and this year's surprise performance from the Baltimore Improv Group had us laughing nonstop. Very cool venue! Popped in for a jazz night through fever.com. But the venue itself houses artwork from local artists, does movie showings, and other events! They offer light snacks and bevy's. Helpful staff, checked us in and walked us to our seats. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again for another event! read more

What a lovely neighborhood treasure! A community organization in the heart of Highlandtown Arts District. They repurposed an old theatre and saved the beautiful marquee. But the magic takes place not only within their walls but with offerings that are present for the whole community to enjoy beyond any structure. There is a wealth of activities and events that cater to the neighborhood and outer reaches of Baltimore and beyond. Going in to the main Creative Alliance building is free. Their 2024 Schedule of activities are packed to highlight the rich culture of the surrounding area. A diverse culture of artists, musicians, movies and film selections, festivals...the list goes on. Depending on the event there may be offerings of beverages and food to also match the sponsored event. We went for a personal tour by one of their staff and it was delightful. They happened to have a special weekend celebrating Mother's Day for the Hispanic community so the gallery lobby and theatre spaces were filled with lively performances and displays. They also sponsor a resident artist program that welcomes a few artists to live in one of their private studio spaces for a period of time. They get to live in an environment surrounded by other artists and where they are supported and encouraged to explore the concepts of their own work. Across the street is another recently developed building where classes and programs are available for all ages. We paid for a screening paint lesson given by a local artist and learned the history of screen paintings which is very unique art form in Baltimore. Anyone who lives in Baltimore or within distance of this building should definitely check it out for all the things they have to offer! read more

I've been to Creative Alliance for two very different events in the last few months, and I'm now a huge fan of this great arts and cultural center just off Patterson Park. They offer such an amazing array of events - movies, musical performances, art shows, classes, and more! I went with a few friends for an interactive screening of Death Becomes Her (drag performance + film screening!) a few months ago - we laughed until we cried. Then a few weeks ago, my husband and I visited again for a performance of the Amazing AcroCats (I can't really explain this - if cats are your thing, Google it - you'll be glad you did). The space is in an old theater and is really comfortable. There is a bar in the theater as well as a bar at the entrance. There's also a gallery space where you can take in the art they are exhibiting at the time. This is one of those great spaces that make the city it's located in better. We're lucky to have it. This review was inspired by my recent, FANTASTIC experience at the Interactive Movie Night: Clue! I am partial to this event because I absolutely adore this cult classic film but the cocktails, costumes, games, props and commentary were so creative, hilarious and fitting. Heather did an amazing job executing everything. It was a packed house and almost all of the guests arrived in character or costume. Given that it was so popular and successful, I truly hope the Creative Alliance opts to make Clue a yearly event. read more

Great venue! I actually visited the location to attend the 1st annual Charm City Burlesque & Variety Festival. I attended the show on Saturday, 9/30/2023 to see my friends Belladonna & The Nightshades, as well as, K-Vegas & Belladonna perform. It was so awesome! All of the performances were great! It was so nice to see diversity and inclusion in terms of race, ethnicity, bodies, disability, snd sexuality! I enjoyed myself! The bartender was super nice, and she made a killer signature cocktail (it was the lemonade and I forgot the name). So good! The venue was spacious and the bathrooms were super clean! Parking although it's a small lot was good, and it was worth it paying the $8 so that I be close enough to the venue and walk across the street. There wasn't any options for Street parking to be honest, and the side streets were very dark. I'm not familiar with the area, and I appreciated all of the lights around the venue, so that I could see, and feel safe in this mostly residential area (at least that's what it seemed like). Our neighborhood BUS sculpture, on Eastern & East Ave, at the Creative Alliance, is always being decorated and Valentine's Day was no exception. The sculpture featured these 3 giant tuled hearts and was the perfect backdrop for a little Valentine's photo op before our dinner date. read more

This is a really cool art and music venue that includes a bar and reception area -- it is multifaceted and so fun! I came here after winning tickets to see Arooj Aftab, the neo-Sufi composer and singer as part of the Creative Alliance's NISA/Women initiative. It is great that they give a spotlight to different voices in art and community. The artist's voice and sound is sooo beautiful with lots of reverb in the production (hauntingly beautiful). She sang in the theater space under the sparkly chandeliers and subtle purple and orange mood lighting. It was so romantic and pretty - wish she did an encore and stayed longer! The event also included food! Catered Pakistani dishes that were delicious and so filling. I'm glad we were able to eat there in the bar space. The bar-- let me tell you!! That mural painting in the bar features a red-orange Phoenix. It is a looker and def something instagrammable pretty. You can order beer or hard liquor. They have some local picks, too. At the end of your time there, don't forget to go outside and check out their BUS sculpture made of wood that you can hang out on and take a seat while waiting for your bus or ride! read more

There is absolutely, positively, no reason to dislike this staple in Baltimore City! Quite simply put they encourage and drive the creative spirit. On this particular night I went to an interactive House Party movie event where you got to yell out and play along with the hosts! It was sooo much fun and so engaging I left feeling increased. But Creative Alliance doesn't just stop there. Whether they are showing movies by local and national filmmakers or showcasing art from talented painters and creators this organization is the lifeblood to the city. P.S... During big events parking can leave a little something to be desired so come early to beat the crowd and secure your park. If not you may find yourself having to park blocks away. read more

I came here on to see Zainab Johnson's comedy performance as part of Creative Alliance's Islamic Women's Art series. I have never been to a comedy show that made me feel so womanly, Black, and powerful , all while having me in stitches from laughing at the same. The theater space is small and intimate but not stuffy and tight. The stadium style seating is major plus so no matter where you sit, you have a great view of the stage. This particular event came with a free vegan dinner buffet sponsored by Land of Kush. I arrived early to eat and then hung out on the big bench playing some cards and waited for the show to start. After the show, Zainab hung around to do a meet and greet and I was totally having a girl crush! In summary, the space is very nice and each time I have been here (for various event types) has been amazing. read more

Creative Alliance is one of my favorite places in the city and definitely for a number of different reasons. There are always a ton of events going on that range from live music performances, art exhibits all the way to outrageously fun interactive movie nights! Just attended Movie Night for the comedy Wet Hot American Summer and it was hilarious. All of the staff and resident artists who live there are very knowledgeable and always looking to help get you involved in what's going on. I've seen and enjoyed so many things here and plan to continue doing so! During the winter they also have an amazing pop-up shop situation where local artists and businesses turn in inside into a marketplace and I love doing Christmas shopping here. They do a ton of good for the city and its great having it as a beacon over on this side of the city. Keep it up guys! read more

This is my second time attending an event at this venue. Both times I have actually enjoyed myself. So this place had an art studio where they display work from local artist. Both times that I have gone the artwork was very nice. They have a theater where the show movies and host other type of events. The event I attended was for a book signing and it was held in the bar lounge. The set up reminds you of a coffee shop/open mic. The bar serves beer, wine and cocktails. They have a kitchen but it is currently being renovated. The only downfall about this venue is that they only offer off at parking which is CRAZY. Please give yourself 15-20 min to look for parking. read more

I sing the praises of Creative Alliance. I helped plan an event that took place here, and the experience was marvelous from start to finish. I have absolutely no complaints. We were able to comfortably accommodate over 125 seated guests in the theater. They set up everything from the chairs, music, and microphone system. The atmosphere was intimate, comfortable, and beautiful. Inside is very modern, but not cold and distant. It's very inviting. There is beautiful art everywhere. So, there is plenty to look at in the lobby area and upstairs. It's such a beauty. Of course, it's well-maintained and clean. All of the staff were genuinely helpful and nice. Street parking is all around. The whole experience was simply easy and straight forward. I'll have to check out other events they have going on. I highly recommend using them for events or checking out the events they host. read more

I am a member and regular customer of the creative Alliance, but I was appalled at the set up for Bambino last Sunday. Chairs in the back so no one who needed or wanted to sit down could see anything on the stage? I expected a seat like a normal concert. If you are not providing chairs for everyone, how about putting them in front, then those who want to stand and dance can still do so behind them and are still close to the stage. As for the opening band, awful, and about 100 decibels too loud. read more

I wanted to write a review for the Creative Alliance, because I went there last night for an art show and loved it. I can't quite decide how I would categorize it - it's a beautiful mix of venue, living space, bar, art studios and a gallery. Basically there are artists studios, where they also live. At the art show last night, they opened up their homes and filled it with art for everyone to browse. The work was great - but I loved seeing how each artist decorated their space. Downstairs was a big art gallery and a bar, then off to the side there was a huge stage where Future Islands played. I was absolutely surprised how big it was, so many people could fit in the space. Very fun, unexpected night in a really cool space. Check out one of the many things that goes on there. read more

It's really nice to have a local non-profit venue to host events. I recently attended a Yelp Elite event here. The Marquee Bar is downstairs and a small stage and event floor occupies the first floor. Modern art displays are just up the staircase. Parking, as in any Baltimore neighborhood is challenging. read more

This review is for the venue its self, not the Save Your Soul Culture event. My bf and I arrived to the Creative Alliance for Save your Soul Dance Party. We were impressed with how open the space was. The dance party towards the back of the venue was dark, we couldn't really see anything. We decided to explore the place and saw some really cool vintage posters downstairs and fantastic art upstairs. I was ecstatic to see an yarn art from an artist that taught an after school program when I was 15. We ordered drinks that were decent ($6 each) and the staff was friendly. I would come here again for other events since I love art and since the party was pretty cool. read more

The bar here is pretty great- the bartenders are relatively friendly and the prices are rather reasonable for an in-venue spot. Good beer selection. The theater itself is good for what it is, but it attracts a very Towson-Minivan-Sierra Club kind of crowd which drags the whole thing down a bit. I've seen one very excellent show there and one that would have been more suited to a Carnival Cruise or a church social, so know what you're going to see before you head out. I check this place out for the Bob Marley birthday fest a few weeks ago. With the promise of music,food and good times I was looking forward to some good times. The music wasn't really happening and the food looked..ok. I did check out the gallery and enjoyed the art on exhibit. I used to see movies here when it was the Patterson theater long ago. I'm embarrassed by how long it's taken me to get The Creative Alliance, but so glad I finally checked it out. On Tuesday, I saw Nels Cline and Julian Lage and it was awesome. Here are a few thoughts and tips: 1.) You are not original by going to Matthew's Pizza in advance! I thought I had the best idea ever. Apparently everyone else going to the show had the same idea. This, combined with an entire girls soccer team taking up half the teeny tiny restaurant made me realllllly nervous about getting to the show on time...but.... 2.) It doesn't matter if you get there late! Truly! There is literally not one bad seat in the house (210 seats total). I actually preferred the seats on the raised platform in the back. The view and the sound is great up there! 3.) Drinks were very reasonably priced...dare I even say...cheap! 4.) The sound was superb. 5.) The staff was soo great. Buying tickets online and over the phone was a snap (we did both). 6.) You can hear a pin drop in there, so make sure you turn off your phone and try not to crinkle anything. Try to wait until between songs to get up to go to the bathroom and get a drink. 7.) I got free popcorn at the end because it was leftover. That was the cherry on top of a night of amazing music and great company. read more

Seven of us ate at the restaurant prior to the show. We all enjoyed the food very much. Gin with a splash of tonic was excellent. I didn't taste the Manhattan but the person who got it said that it was really good. And another person enjoyed the specialty gin drink with grapefruit juice (it wasn't too sweet). The bacon cheeseburger was very tasty. The pork shank was tender and flavorful. A tablemate said that the scallops were delicious (I didn't taste them). Everyone raved about the tomato soup. I didn't give it five stars because of the service. Even though the lady/server was very nice, service was a bit slow - despite her good intentions. The music show afterward (Michael Swenso) was fantastic. The musicians and singers were really, really great. read more

PLAIN AND SIMPLE: If you are an artist in Maryland YOU HAVE to get yourself to Creative Alliance. From the events, to the workshops, to the FREE art galleries, it is just the perfect place to embrace art and network with similar artists. I've been to this place at least a two dozen times for all of the above and to host my own auditions and Private Screening of my films. Great place! read more

I haven't been here in a while but I remember my last time here was pretty fun and interesting. Its down the street from Patterson park and close to canton square so its a pretty convenient location. The art exhibit that was up when i stopped by was really cool. It jumped out at you and you were allowed to get pretty close and almost an interactive experience. They had a decent spread of stuff they like to throw down at an art showing but it was very casual and so was the crowd. Not a slew of artsy enthusiast but people just interested and taken back at how cool all the pieces were. I like the open space where you can talk to anyone about anything and take the whole scene in. They also had an upstairs exhibit and are linked to a few theaters crews and art spaces around town so that you can stay in touch with the local and growing Baltimore art community. Recently I got word of a bar that got added inside. So once I check that out I'll update but its still a pretty a fun and thought provoking experience. Not to mention how smart and culturally sound your date thinks you are now. (worked for me). Went to open Resident night and had an amazing time. Got to see all the great art, talk to the artist, have some drinks, and enjoy a live performance, all for free. Definitely the neighborhood gem. read more

The in house bar is reasonably priced, bathrooms are spacious, well lit and clean. The bar is bare bones, though. Don't go ordering a drink that requires more than three ingredients. Performance space is sizable for an intimate setting, and there are seats and risers available, which is nice. Staff was unimpressive - though not in the negative sense - I just didn't feel one way or the other. In service, that may be a bad thing. I wish the performance space were utilized more, I will say. I know nothing about the Marquee space other than how it looks outside, so I can't speak to that, sorry. And damn parking sucks. (x100. Repeat this to yourself before going. read more

I must have passed by this venue a thousand times and always had the intention of seeing a show or event here. And now...I finally have! As a venue, this place is fabulous--the exterior does not reflect the refinement that the interior shines. They have a restaurant, bar, gallery, and theatre all wrapped in one. If you are even mildly interested in the arts, this place is great to discover budding artists. I hope that its popularity catches on so they can add to what they already have. read more

I love a good artist supported performance space and Creative Alliance didn't disappoint. I went with friends to see a couple of Irishly influenced bands, you know, banjos, guitars, violin, bass and accordion, and had a grand ol' foot stompin' "yip" yelling time. The room has great sound (altho the banjo could have been louder) and the 200+ seats fit easily into the squarish, open, high ceiling room. Really not a bad seat in the place. There's a bar right next to the performance space, so you don't have to go far for a drink. And it is a full bar, not just beer and wine. The night I was there, the restaurant was closed and the adjacent art gallery was being prepared for a new show. Timing is everything. The audience seemed to be comprised of friends of the band and the regulars (the paid Creative Alliance supporters who must live nearby and come all the time). A couple of drawbacks, street parking, as bad as some of the busier Baltimore communities and the show pricing. I figured a week night show would go for $10/15 a ticket, but this show happily charged $25 per person. I guess the ticket girl felt bad when she saw our reaction to the pricing and offered us a member's price of "only" $23 a ticket. And even for that huge discount we had to suffer the other ticket guys comment, "they shouldn't be getting that price." Share your art happily guys, vibe beats profit every time. In the lobby/entrance area there are show flyers for all the upcoming events and there was a lot of interesting stuff on the horizon. Just come early so you can find decent parking (altho the nice ticket girl said they did have a parking lot, I never saw it) and find out the ticket price ahead of walking in the door. They do give early purchase discounts for most shows. read more

It is a great venue and art gallery. I have seen wonderful music, shows, diy fairs and other there. Also, I have missed some even better things. The bands that play there can range from Will Oldham, Ramblin jack Elliot, Lafayete Gilcrest, Blues, soul....all the way to my band and my friends bands. I watched one film there and was happy. They tend to put on event based shows and performances mostly. I have had a couple friends as residents and they really enjoyed that. If you are looking for something fun to or a fun night out you can usually find it here. Be it fancy black tie event or jeans and t-shirt night out. read more

Here is my review: I gave it two starts...now I am removing one star and would give no stars if they had that option...one for Yelp for removing my post and two for the venue for being crappy. Recently attended a show at this location and boy was it poorly put on. The entire staff had a huge stick up their butt and would not bat an eye to provide any bit of service. It is mostly art on the wall with a small performance space that lacks any depth. They have a bar area that also is lackluster when it comes to service and menu choice. If your the artsy fartsy type you will love this place. If your a selfie your going to love this place. If your not one of those, than I hope the show you come see is great because the venue is not. They try to call themselves a non-profit, but I assure you they are making bank at this place. read more
