First, parking sucks. If there was any reason to show up early it's to find better parking and avoid the parking garage. Otherwise, loved this smaller venue that really lets you get up and close to the stage. More and more fantastic artists have been coming through here and not going to some of the other venues in the baltimore area. The drinks are at great prices, which is suprising for a venue and even more surprising for baltimore. Definitely keep up to date with the events that come through here because there's not much advertisement. And the restaurants in the area are within walking distance and great to grab a bite before the show. read more

The Metro Gallery is an institution of amazing well-known and up-and-coming bands and performances. I greatly appreciate that the bar has a selection of alcohol and nonalcoholic drink drinks that don't feel limiting. I recently attended the 2025 Subscape and was impressed by their ability to offer a free show at such a quality venue. I can't say enough great things about this place. I do want to give a special shout out to the doorman who who informed me that they were at capacity, but ultimately allowed me to enter after I waited for 20 minutes as he confirmed that their staff was able to allow another person in as people started to leave. This place is one of the many reasons why the Baltimore music scene is awesome. read more

I saw a hardcore metal show here. I was a little apprehensive of the location but the surrounding area is actually not that bad, at least during the day. The outside of the building looks run down and it's blacked out all around. We parked in a parking lot attached to the venue which is huge in the city. There's also a large parking garage next to the venue too. The doors opened right when they were supposed to and the staff was friendly and quick to scan our tickets and wrist band us after checking ID for 21+. The venue itself is quite small (probably 200 people max, and it would be cramped). The stage is immediately to the left as you walk in. The sound system was great. There's also a bar with several canned beer options as well as several spirits to make cocktails with. There were two bartenders working and both seemed quick and friendly. There were two single use gender neutral bathrooms which definitely helped move the bathroom line. There was space for all four bands to set up merch tables and didn't take up room away from concert goers. There were posters for upcoming shows around too which I thought was cool. You can tell whoever owns this place cares and takes care of it. I think the service and venue was great and I'd highly recommend going to see a show here. read more

A very very small venue located on an edge of Baltimore. But small venues are exactly what I love! Sound was great, it was loud and I felt it throughout my whole body. Venue has two gender neutral bathrooms, one has touch free dispensers while the other is manual. Didn't have any drinks so can't comment on prices or hospitality. Metro Gallery was the cutest little spot to see a concert in the city, without it being a scary area when leaving late. Parking was easy and accessible, the venue was small but still had ample space, and gender neutral bathrooms were available. The bartenders were so incredibly sweet, even though I would say when it comes to the bar, the drinks can get quite pricey. Everyone was kind and respectful despite the small space, which I know can be an issue at some concert venues. read more

Fairly spacious warehouse type venue. Dimly lit. Free place to hang coats. One bar and it gets pretty packed. The barstaff were clearly overworked. Drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. I did notice extra charges on my receipt that I had to get remedied at the end of the night so I may opt to pay cash at the bar if I come here again. The DJs were amazing. Music was bumping and the crowd friendly and diverse. The best dance club experience I have found in Baltimore so far. I had a good time. read more

I went here to see two go go bands. I feel like I overpaid when it came to the admission price as this space is very grungy inside lol but it's ok. It's not the sort of space that I imagined it would be. I feel like the name should be changed to something else because I feel like just because there are some paintings on the wall doesn't make it a gallery lol. Anyways the bands were awesome and I hope that they got most of money that I spent to get in. Parking was very easy as there is a lot and also a garage right next to the building. This place is perfect for low-key, intimate settings! I came here for a small acoustic concert, William Fitzsimmons, and it was probably about the best concert I've been to! It is located in the cute, hipster area of mount vernon, and as you walk in, you definitely get that vibe. When I first walked in, I saw a few people relaxing, and chilling on the floor. My first thought was that I wasn't going to do that. They had couched along the wall, and like I said, super cute and intimate. By the time the concert started, it was all chill vibes. No matter where you were sitting or standing, you could see the artists, no problemo. By the end, about 90 percent of us, even I, were sitting on the floor, just swaying along with the music. You really feel connected to the singers. Drink prices:: fairly well! $5 wells. $7 wines $7 Bookers scotch! definitely going back as soon as I can! loved it! read more

This place is just mediocre. It barely qualifies as a venue in my mind. Bands have to put their gear in the main room. The steps to the stage are two feet from the front door. The room has windows with big curtains. I've been to lots of venues, and I just...I don't want to be able to see outside while I'm watching a band. It's just not an immersive experience. That probably sounds like a really specific and unnecessary criticism, but this place just feels so haphazardly put together. The space just wasn't designed to be a concert venue. It also gets stupid hot, even when the crowd is pretty calm. Uncomfortably hot. I also had a bit of bad experience with a recent show. The ticket and the website claimed the show started at 8pm, and when I arrived at 7:45pm, the first band had two songs left. I get that the tour manager or the band might have requested an earlier set time, but at least update your website! I paid to see that band, and because the venue was too lazy to do anything about the new set time, I barely got to see them. It just wasn't very professional. read more

The Metro Gallery has a great story. Resourceful young Sarah Williams, then engaged neighborhood citizen, now Metro Gallery diva, attends a neighborhood development meeting and convinces a building landlord that (a) Charles St. needs an art space and (b) she should run it. Presto! The Metro Gallery comes to be. Her investment in the city and the arts should be applauded. So should the Metro Gallery. Two seconds from Penn Station and across from the Charles Theater, the location is perfect and easy to get to. The expansive space has plenty of room for artwork and can double as a music venue. Great setting for emerging artistic talent. How is the work on the walls? Sarah has a good eye for good work, no question, but the quality is inconsistent. I got the sense that Sarah is friends with a lot of musicians and artists, and may choose shows with her heart more than her head. No worries, having a heart about art is ok in my book. My one knock on Metro is the lighting. If the artwork is stunning but no one can see it, you're throwing the effort of the artist away. Good lighting can make or break a show, and a lot of mediums need a lot of light - oils for instance. I get that theres a fusion of scene and stuff to see at Metro, but ambiance should not trump the work. I recommend a Metro Gallery visit in any case, please take a look. read more

Sarah is a definite asset to the Baltimore scene, as is Metro Gallery itself. This is how DIY venues should be. Heck, I've been to corporate venues that aren't as nice as Metro Gallery. Take note, NY...not every DIY venue has to be a sketchy fire hazard hell hole. Decent booze selection, fair prices, reasonable cover charges. Lots of free events too. One of my favorite live-music venues. Intimate setting that gets a lot of interesting, low- to mid-profile acts (that's not a jab - many of my favorite bands are of the under-the-radar sort). Great sound quality for the space - saw Pharmakon there last Sunday, and the whole venue felt like the inside of a subwoofer. From my visits, the crowds are usually mellow and laid-back, there to enjoy a shared experience. Two clean unisex bathrooms with an "everything -covered-in-stickers" aesthetic. And as someone who hates the parking nightmare that accompanies most venues, the lot next door ($10) is a convenience well worth the cost (just remember to pay the guy in the garage). If you want to make a day of it, The Charles Theatre is right across the street. read more

This venue is in a hipster-ish area in Baltimore with some cute restaurants in the area. Street parking is pretty easy to find, and there are a couple pay to park garages. There are meters in the streets but I believe they are free after 6 or 8. This venue is very small but it feels intimate. They have some great live bands playing. They have a decent selection of local craft beers that range from $4-7. Their cocktails are around $10 which I think is a little pricey for a divey type place but the mojitos I got were very tasty and the bartenders were attentive and friendly. My boyfriend has a band that plays there sometimes and I love going to the shows there! Great venue. read more

Great place to patron and work with. I'd been to the Metro gallery several times with friends to see both gallery shows and music performances with great experiences, so when I was organizing a vaudville/burlesque benefit show, they were definitely my first choice venue. Great bar, decent sized stage, great sound guy, and the owner, Sarah, is a dream to work with. I loved holding my event there so much that I also had my wedding reception there a year or so later. An extra bonus to having an event here is that it's an art gallery, so there's not much need for decorating! read more

This place was great to work with. I organized a big screening party here on 1/31 and within the first hour of my arrival we discovered that some of my technology that I brought was producing this weird banding across the projection screen. Disaster. Plan b was to use a different computer- all good, but we didn't have the right adapter. Sarah drove out to check every other film venue in Baltimore for the correct VGA adapter and lo and behold she saved the night. I couldn't have asked for a better team of support. The space is awesome, the bar is great, there is plenty of room for sitting, socializing, watching and dancing. And it's super close to restaurants and cheap parking. Any time I need some kind of event I'll definitely keep coming to these guys. The older members of my family were happy, the young kids were happy, the band was happy...I don't think anyone felt uncomfortable, stifled, crowded or any of those adjectives that describe a poor venue experience. I've said it before and I'll say it again Metro Gallery (and The Windup Space) are the Le Poisson Rouge of Baltimore. There's an obvious fusion of cultural elements: music, film, theater, and fine art in the space. It is like a creative asylum in Baltimore's Station North area. Metro Gallery is in an interesting spot. They are a block away from the train station, incidentally, a block away from the top of the Charm City Circulator's Purple Line which runs until midnight on the weekends. They are across the street from the Charles Theatre and Tapas Teatro which lends a little chi-chi arts district quality to that corner. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I'm a girl that loves a place that I can listen to great music and bring my drinking shoes. The bartenders at Metro Gallery have yet to disappoint. I've only gone for the contemporary classical concerts that are my love - but I know that they have all different genres playing and performing there. You won't be disappointed either. Go. Now. Attending events at The Metro Gallery is always a good time. From rock shows to a burlesque review, the venue is perfect. Appropriately dim without feeling like you are in your friend's parent's basement. A good sized bar and excellent service. They have a nice selection of beer and a full bar of booze. This place was pretty cool! I think I was expecting it to be more gallery and less bar/stage space but I don't mind! They had an interesting display of this urban, Japanese inspired art hanging on the walls which was fun to take time to look at. I brought a couple of girlfriends here for a comedy show by What Weekly. We got there super early, like an hour early because I didn't realize the listed time was just doors and not the show. Oh well! I got to help out the comedy crew who needed help with their backdrop and my trusty Yelp photo booth came in handy! My friends and I got a cider at the bar and chatted until the show started! There were six comedians I think, all had a distinct style which was really fun and made it interesting. Overall, for $10 plus a drink, that was a great night out and something different tha I would definitely do again! read more

I went to Metro Gallery once last summer to see my friend's band play. This was the last event that was still BYOB, as they'd just gotten their liquor license and were setting up their bar. Located in Station North just a block up from Penn station, it's a great little art gallery that doubles as a music venue. The space is pretty open with really high ceilings, and they have a portable stage set up to the left just as you walk in. I hear now that they have some pretty decent happy hours. Thursday is all you can drink house wine for $12 from 7-10pm. Fridays is $1 off beer and whiskey, Saturdays is $2 yuengling, miller lite and lowenbraus. Nice spot to watch some bands in baltimore. It's not a real big place but not really small either. Its just a few minutes from baltimore penn station. There's a couple bar seats near the stage but it's mostly standing room only. The speakers are legit and the stage is nicely set up to see the performers no matter how tall the people in front of you are. Beer tap selection is small but they have some cans of local and national brews. Would like to check it out more if I didn't live an hour away. read more

The location is kind in a worn out, bad part of town almost like a war zone. Very tiny and I dare I say it, intimate venue. the sound system was okay that night but nothing mind blowing. But it was better than some of the smaller run down places in DC. Attendance seems limited to a bunch of locals there to get drunk who don't really know the bands and maybe 10 dedicated people to actually see the bands that play there. Parking wasn't really an issue when I went but I got lucky by getting the last open spot in the very small self parking lot next to the place. As I was leaving, I got yelled at by some random delivery driver right as I was getting into traffic but didn't confront the guy. Again, the people in this part town are really seedy. You never know these days especially in Baltimore. read more

Great venue for smaller shows. Neat layout, stage was super accessible, bar had a great selection and service was quick. Bathroom area had a coat rack if you're trusting. Convenient walk from Penn Station if you're coming up from DC. They do have bands setting up & breaking down in a corner of the main area, which was a little odd. This is one hell of a multi-purpose spot. The fact that it is actually an art gallery, bar, and club rolled into one make for an entertaining and fun time. I've come here for dance parties as well as art showings. Then they book live music which i have yet to come see but im sure its just as fun. Monday nights its NO RULE whcih is a free dance party, no cover, and its great for those looong mondays and you just don't give a dam about waking up in time the next day. The free art shows are great with all the finger food and wine provided. its close to some other great spots too which is plus but its a great place to enjoy some finer art but not feel all snobby about it. read more

Played the Flight of the Valkyries 8 festival here. Sound and lighting at this venue were phenomenal. Nicely elevated, and decently sized stage. Staff was very nice. Wifi was available. Prime location, yet a bit out of the way. easily overlooked as it is on the corner across from the Charles Theatre and a block from Penn Station. I came here to see a Club/house/electro DJ set and was surprised. Sound is well placed(Suspended on rafters) Lighting is meh... Bar is Stocked well for beer, and adequate for liquor(top,mid or house). Lack of seating is a problem, but then again, it should only be at the bar. Definitely a return customer... read more

This is a little bitty art gallery/bar/performance space. It was pretty in a modern art way, warm and inviting. There were a few couches and tables scattered about, and area rugs on the floor in front of the stage, where everyone sat and talked until the opener got on stage. They were serious about not letting people in until the official "door" time, but the line wasn't bad and they moved everyone in quickly. The stage backdrop was a trippy pattern of colored duct tape that I really liked. Only one bathroom though, with a very long line. read more

Great place to attend live music events. My only real complaint is the noise generated by the bar behind me. It seemed that a lot of the people in attendance the night I went were focused on the bar and conversation and not the performers. (I moved further up in order to hear better.)
