I had only been here once before and just learned that one of my neighbors sometimes bartend here so I went recently for karaoke night. It's a quintessential Baltimore dive bar, but really vibrant and colorful. They usually have some sort of band or live music. This is definitely a local watering hole, but people come here from all over. Karaoke was really chill and fun and unlike other places I didn't have to wait long to sing. They don't have food here, but they sell chips at the bar and the menu is cheap. They only have white claw for seltzers -- a tip for my girlies who don't drink beer. On a nice day you will smell cigarette smoke as they leave the doors open. Definitely a favorite of mine and I will be back. read more

If I can't give zero stars I will give 1, because I have to. Walked in and there and there was no where to sit at the bar, so we went to the end of the bar. There was a stool there so I asked if my date could sit there. The only reason I asked was because there was a sign that said service bar only. I asked the bartender if my girl could sit there. The bartender was obviously intoxicated, which didn't initially offend me, but she said something about the band and the sign. I looked over at the stage and there was no band. So I said, "may my girl sit here?", and the drunken bartender said, "do you want a drink or what?" So we left and went down to the next bar. Looked like a cool bar but not happening. Visiting from out of town was recommended Fells Point to hang out. This bar popped up and the pics of sparkly Christmas lights drew me in. It's a small corner bar, got served immediately. Great band (Katie Bowers Band) and excellent bartender (Chris) the patrons who mostly seem to be locals are cool. One bought a round of shots for me n my bff. Ordered double shots of tequila and they overflowed. Will def come back in a heartbeat. If you love intimate, dive bar settings, this is the spot. The 1919 has some of the best collage work and color work I've seen in a barroom bathroom. I am not kidding. It's beautiful. The creamy coral tiles are a perfect background for the pictures that are assembled. I thought it was a lovely space and I appreciated the artistry behind it. Oh 1919 Please Don't Change If your time machine is broken and you want see what it was like to drink in Baltimore circa 1981 this is the place. Strong drinks. Limited Beer Selection. No suggestion of $12 sugary "house cocktails". The food menu is located on the Utz Potato chip rack. May I suggest the straight plain Utz chip. This is an eclectic hole in the wall type of bar where the pool table is free (bc the money thing broke a while back) and local musicians like Caleb Stine play from time to time without forewarning. The walls are plastered with random photos and elementary school essays. But it feels like your own private bar and they have enough of a liquor and beer selection...but nothing too fancy. No blender, no mojitos, no fresh fruit period. Great dive bar in Fells Point. Despite appearing nondescript on the outside (a simple blue neon "1919" in the window), there is nothing ordinary about this place when you step inside. Glossy photos, cartoon sketches, fake spider webs and band posters cover the walls, interrupted by shelves of random oddities like rocks, human skulls, and fire hydrant parts. The random pile of rocks in the corner couldn't have been more random. The 100 disc changer and racks of dusty CD cases continue to sit above the bar like museum artifacts juxtaposed by the satellite radio playing over the speakers. The beer only comes in bottles and ritzy cocktails are spurned by the local drinking class whose love for this place emanates from the pores of the bar top. I was the only patron on a lonely Sunday night. I chatted it up with the bartenders who opined on the past and future of Baltimores. A must visit. read more

The super nice/funloving owners live upstairs and their dogs (very pettable) will run around sometimes. Everyone in there is a regular. Some Sunday nights they have a great raunchy blues player. Going to 1919 is like going to a bar in the basement of your middle school best friend's house circa 1981. It smells kind of weird, you're sure there is mold and his creepy dad occasionally appears in his underwear and asks if you want a Tab - but it's better than being at your own house because you don't have an Atari. The patrons all look like they have interesting stories to tell - but unfortunately because it's not the place you would frequent unless you were extremely intoxicated, full comprehension is unlikely. This is the real deal, a dive bar that is not trying to be a dive bar. This is the place to go for people that are unpretentious and comfortable about their true selves. Completely authentic and great live music with a honky tonk bent (not that WPOC crap). No food, no craft beers (except Sierra Nevada Pale), no bar filled with bs flavored vodka, no blender frozen drinks. I always feel better about my fellow mankind after leaving this place. I don't want to rag on anyone's local corner bar (and it seems this one belongs to the previous 5-star reviewers) but objectively, I couldn't really recommend 1919 to anyone. Yes, I was served a beer without waiting an eternity, but no other redeeming quality about the place jumped out at me. Pretty dusty and dingy overall-- felt like I was hanging out in an attic. Honestly, if someone only had a day or two to spend in town, would you really take them here over Bad Decisions or Ale Mary's? And those are just the two that are ONE block away! read more

The bartenders are some of the best in town. Drinks are very affordable. Awesome dive bar decorations. They have an enjoyable open mic on Tuesdays. The place has an awesome atmosphere and always has a ton of live music. The reason for the one star rating is the service was absolutely awful. Was just there with friends on a Saturday night, arrived around 9pm. There was about 15 people in the bar so it was not crowded. Waited for about 20 minutes to order my first drink, nothing fancy, just a run of the mill L.I.T. and a shot. I knew it was going to be a long night when the bartender asked me how to make it, were talking about one of the most common drinks on the planet. Received drink about 5 mins later and i was absolutely awful! Undrinkable! I than decided to than pay my tab and visit one of the other local bars where service was fantastic. Told the bartender there of my expericnce and it appears I'm not the first one to leave there and go somewhere else, advised me the bartender was the owner's daughter and is infamous for the service issues. I decided to go back and give the place a 2nd chance that night, place was now more crowded but not super packed. Order a beer 3 times form the bartender after waiting forever again, kindly asked a 4th time, got snapped at by this bartender, WILL NEVER SPEND A DIME THERE AGAIN! I'm a former bartender myself and and am very patient but this was ridiculous! read more
