The salon itself is GORGEOUS! It's an open area with shampooing on one side and stations on the other. They also sell hair care products and other items. At my initial cut Megan inquired about what my needs were. I am pretty basic, so really just needed a trim. I keep long straight type hair. She asked about layers and if I wanted face framing or bangs and we worked out the details. I loved that Megan asked these questions to make sure I get just what I want! She is gently with brushing and cutting while being very efficient. At the end of my cut she asked if I would want my hair styled and she was able to give me some waves. It was fantastic! I have thin fine hair and was so impressed that the style held all day! WOW! I called the salon on a Tuesday hoping to make an appointment with someone for a hair color before…read morethat Friday because I was leaving for vacation. The person who answered the phone offered me an appointment on the following Thursday afternoon, the day before I was scheduled to leave. I was so happy that I was able to get an appointment so I quickly agreed. The person also asked me what type of color I was looking for so I gave a detailed explanation of exactly what I was looking for. I told her that I wanted three colors, a light, medium and dark ash blond with violet under tones. Maybe even some violet peek-a-boo trendles. As I was telling her, she was repeating what I was saying to her as she wrote it down. I knew up front that it would not be easy to achieve the color I wanted so I even told them my natural color is a level 5 and it pulls red when it's lightened. I wanted the stylist, Natalie, to know before I came in what she was getting into so that she would have the products available that she would need to do my hair. I even called the salon back on Wednesday morning and asked to speak to Natalie. I was told that she wouldn't be in until one so I told the person that I had an appointment with Natalie on Thursday and I wanted to speak with her so I could make sure that she had whatever she would need in order to color my hair the way that I wanted. The person said that they were leaving Natalie a message to call me back when she came in at one. It was 4:51 PM before Natalie reached out to me and she didn't even call, she sent a text. I messaged her back about 25 minutes later, at 5:13 PM, to make sure that she knew what I wanted and that she had the products available to achieve the color that I was looking for. After I typed everything out for her and sent her pictures, she didn't respond. at 6:36 I messaged her again asked if she had received my message. She replied back telling me that I sounded unsure about the color I wanted and told me that I needed to come in Thursday for a consultation and then we could schedule an appointment for later to make sure that I got the color that I wanted. I texted back that this was unacceptable. That I had done everything in my power to make sure that she would be prepared and it wasn't my fault that she didn't get back to me until nearly 7 PM the night before my scheduled appointment. She told me that she was not made aware of what I was looking for and that she finds out with the consultation that she does before every appointment. I told her it was unacceptable and that I was leaving Friday and it was too late to try getting an appointment with someone else. I also told her that the fact that she canceled my appointment and demanded a consultation would result in me leaving this poor review. Obviously communication is poor within this salon and leaves me with a question. Why was I scheduled for an appointment at all if Natalie requires a consultation appointment prior to her services??? I will never make an appointment with Trashy Roots Salon again which is a shame. From their reviews, it sounds like once you get your foot in the door, they do fantastic work! The problem seems to be lack of communication resulting in extremely poor customer service. Natalie mentioned that she is her own boss because she rents her chair. I told Natalie that I intended to reach out to the owner the next day but I didn't get a chance to do so. I was hoping that Natalie would explain the situation to her and I might receive a phone call. I didn't so this shows that either Natalie didn't tell the shop owner about the situation or she did and the owner simply doesn't care. Even if Natalie rents her chair and has her own business, I'm sure the owner trusts the people working in the salon to act professionally and to treat her customers with the respect they deserve. With stylists like Natalie working there, the entire salon shines a negative light in the community. I'm sure that some people who read my review will think twice about scheduling an appointment at all. Especially not one with Natalie. Thank you.

Im talking essential oil diffuser, low chandelier lights, candles for sale, fun couches, with a maximalist-esque decor vibe, and even a little library! Second, I came in to get a bad color fixed from another salon and believe me when I say that she went above and beyond. I didn't expect much since it was in pretty bad shape coming in, but she blended it so well and did exactly what I wanted. Going back to the relaxing environment, at the shampoo bowl, I nodded off THREE times because I was so relaxed. THREE TIMES! That's never happened with uncomfortable shampoo bowls being at odd angles, but the bowl was what all shampoo bowls everywhere need to be! It's by appointment only so you'll want to book in advance if you want to get in. After I booked, I went to look for another time and she was already booked a month out. (Not surprising!!) I don't take much time to do my hair and when I do, I want it to be very simple. I was greeted right when I walked in and was given an iPad for a questionnaire since this was my first time there. After I finished in my questionnaire they asked if I wanted any refreshments. I was really impressed with this place and the whole establishment. The whole staff was very nice and accommodating. My hair stylish asked me what I wanted to do and I just told her to cut a lot off and give me something very low maintenance. She was so helpful and had a lot of insight on the cut and the styling afterwords to ensure my routine wouldn't be extended in the morning.
