I have been going to this salon for 15 years. Through locations changes, I never left. Today was the day. It wasn't my stylist. It was the manager, receptionist, and presumably the owners. I called to reschedule my appointment 22 hours in advance. I had a valid reason. I am not a chronic rescheduler or no show person. They wanted to charge me the full amount of my cut and color to reschedule with less than 24 hours notice. The manager did finally agree to reschedule without a charge, but I decided that's not the kind of business I'd like to patronize so I called back and canceled. read more

It's a lovely high-end salon but I had a bad experience. I walked in when the salon opened at 9am. knowing that walk/ins were welcome. The only people in the salon were workers. She asked if I had an appointment. I said "No" that walk/ons were advertised as acceptable. I asked for a haircut. She said they were completely booked up "until this evening." I'm not one to really rate a place that will do my hair for me. Usually, it's a quick in and out, I'm either happy, or I'm not and go to the next "best salon". This is a unique experience in itself. This salon is located off highway 94 and Wolfrum. It's tucked away in the plaza. It's a hidden gem and won't shy away from that. The interior is fresh, clean and modern. I love that. Not your bs salon attached to a Walmart or the mall. I came here looking for a place to get my haircut after moving back from Houston. I have some tough hair to cut. People either botch it, or get it right. I had a good feeling about this place from the start. The service off the bat from when I called in, was incredible. The guy at the front desk is lights out awesome. You can tell he loves what he does. Here's the meat of the story. Ann was my stylist and that was the best luck I've had in awhile. She saw my hair as a challenge and took it. She was really fun to talk to and literally feel no pressure or doubt that she would screw up your hair. She's professional. I referred Anna to my girlfriend who also has difficult hair and she loves Anna. Anna gave us different promotions for referring one another. Free stuff... wooooo. Wanted to give 5 stars, had every intention of giving 5 stars, but when a misunderstanding this large happens, it's infuriating... and unfair. - Emailed for appointment. - Email bounced back a day later. - Emailed again to inform of wrong email on website/resend request. - Email appointment request was missed, but they sure appreciated me fixing a line of communication... for them. - Emailed again to reiterate my request. - Email was transferred to scheduler. - Scheduler refused to book me until I provided photos of myself & inspiration. (odd, you say this to your elderly clients too?) - Told them I felt such request was impersonal, as I LOVE stylists doing what they like to do. - They told me to provide photos (allowing them to schedule time for the stylist accordingly) or I would need to book consultation. - Reminded them I was on a time crunch to get my hair done & three days have already gone by since my initial request bounced back (then missed), so I asked them to simply book me while I gather inspo (so I wouldn't lose the appointment). - They agreed, sent first text confirmation. - Spent an hour on inspo presentation. - Emailed it as PDF, never heard back. - Waited four days, still nothing, so I followed up asking if we were squared away. (Again, because I'm on a time crunch to get hair done AND wanted to make sure my request fit stylist schedule since they booked me prior to seeing the photos... or so I thought!) - Two more days go by, I didn't hear back. - Followed up a second time-- a mere two days prior to my appointment. - Scheduler simply forwarded original email, with no other greeting or apology for lack of acknowledgement. - Showed up for hair appointment - after canceling a doctor's appt & oil change - ONLY to be told I was scheduled for a consultation instead of hair appointment. - Looked at texts, all said "appointment". - Looked at email, and in one tiny little place, sure enough Gabby, the scheduler, said "consultation" and I definitely missed it... because I NEVER asked for a consultation. - They said in-person they were booking two weeks out, couldn't help, so I left. - It's been a week, no follow-up or cordial apology from owners From my understanding it was inspo OR consultation? So had there been acknowledgement to my inspo presentation a solid WEEK in advance, perhaps I would have had the opportunity to ask "so does she have enough time for the same Thursday appointment?" OR perhaps she could have asked me "I thought you didn't have inspiration? Does this mean you wish to cancel the consultation and book real appointment?" Etc. I gotta ask, why the actual hell would I send a presentation before a consultation? Why would I agree to a consultation if on a time crunch? WHY wouldn't the scheduler inform me upfront about how far they're booking out BEFORE sending me the homework request? Schedulers should be outstanding communicators... for any industry. But a contract industry such as hair?? The scheduler legit just lost the stylist money and owners business. And in turn, the salon ruined family photos for a milestone birthday all because they care more about profit than customer SERVICE. They don't want you discussing vision in-house. It takes up a seat. They want to turn & burn you (despite having an empty salon upon arrival). They want your financial information upfront, your personal photos upfront, your time upfront, yet they can't give you their undivided attention when booking you? Hmm. Read customer emails with intent to help, NOT reply. And shame on the owners for not reviewing correspondence more closely-- even when the customer emailed you directly to say "I would absolute LOVE confirmation!" on the fourth day of waiting for one. This salon might be great for LSL, but on a national level, this was a horrible experience and there is no one to hold accountable except me. I lose out while they move on and hope I never return because of this very review. read more

Hubby surprised me with an appointment for a haircut, so I ventured in my first time sight unseen having never been here before. Staff was friendly, helpful, and offered me a beverage upon arrival. The facility is clean, bright, and all the stylists were upbeat and chatty with their clients as well. I was not disappointed. I met with Kasey, told her my hair woes, and crossed my fingers. I feel like I was taken for a ride on my cut and color consult. Color consultation was supposed to be free, but I had to be booked for a 60 min time slot instead of a 45 min one. Online it showed price for cut and style as $42. I was told on the phone it would be $54, because of the additional time. Totally fine. Get there and my stylist is running a half hour late. I have very dark box dyed hair and had wanted a test strip done which never happened because we ran out of time. My stylist was very friendly, easy to talk to and did a great job with the cut and style. I would highly recommend Jen for a cut and I understand that sometimes things get off track time wise. When I was done and went to pay, somehow the amount jumped up to $62. I had to run off to get my daughter from pre-k so I didn't argue right away but when I came back after I asked why the increase and they said different stylist have different amounts for the type of cut and the time it takes. I basically got a trim with minimal layering. I paid a $10 tip. It would have been more, if I didn't have to wait for a half hour at the beginning and because I felt rushed at the end. When I checked my bank statement later what should have been $72 somehow jumped to $76. I hope it's all a misunderstanding, but I went ahead and canceled my color appointment, because I'm feeling a bit taken advantage of. read more

Inspire Salon is the best salon I've been to in the mid-west. After moving here from California, it was very hard to find a place where the stylist had modern ideas, current portfolios and talent. Not sure of how many times I've been here, but it's probably close to 15. Not once during a visit to this salon have I left feeling less than completely happy about the service(s). They use only the best Aveda products and now it's so obvious to me why. Is Aveda more expensive than some other traditional brands? Yep. Will you regret spending the money. I don't think you will. Kara is my go to stylist. She is dripping with class and is naturally receptive. All of the stylist there are absolutely professional. Their communication is perfect. What you want is what matters. I have been going to Inspire Salon for over 6 years now - and LOVE it for so many reasons: 1. The staff are incredibly nice and professional. 2. They pay attention to the little things. On my first visit, I had just gotten an awesome haircut and it started pouring down rain. I pretty much chalked it up to a loss, but before getting to the door - Chris (at the front desk) grabbed an umbrella and walked me out to my car. I'm always offered a drink and/or snack while I'm waiting, and the complimentary neck and shoulder massage is a fabulous treat. 3. Sandi is a hair GENIUS. She is a great listener, and is able to take into account what you ask for, and how that will work with your hair type. She always takes the time to make sure the cut is perfect - without making you sit there forever. She has never steered me wrong. I used to live in St. Charles, and moved to St. Louis City and still take the hike out to Inspire. This salon makes you feel so welcome, as soon as you walk in the door. The Aveda tea is a must and the stylists that I hold close to my heart always understand exactly what I want. With having a level 5 hair type, I instantly pull orange when trying to lighten my hair. My top stylist, Jami always knows what to do to prevent me leaving feeling like I have hot roots. The education never ends for these stylists, and as Aveda keeps staying True to their natural ways, the stylists are the same. Jami knows the color wheel like the back of her hand, and she is a master at with her cutting skills. I understand some stylist needs vacation too, so Jamie, Kara, and Jen are to the rescue when Jami is not there. I think the prices match exactly what you want with the service right behind it. OK, I'm really on the fence about this salon. I've been once, for highlights and a cut. It ended up being about $85 for this (including shampoo and style, not including tip), which to me, is a little pricey. But I guess it's about standard in STL. CONS: I didn't want much of my hair cut, just a little trim-up. The girl who did my hair cut it shorter than I wanted. I was really worried about that, because I was getting married in 3 weeks and needed my hair to not be too short. The biggest con was discovered when I got home. The back of my shirt had giant bleach spots all over it. I mean everywhere! And the stylist even put two aprons over me...apparently, it didn't work. PROS: I called the salon as soon as I discovered the bleach spots, and they were really apologetic and really helpful. They asked how much the shirt was and said they'd reimburse me. They promptly sent me a check for the price of the shirt, and also a $20 gift card. The haircut I received was pretty cute, even though I didn't want it that way. My color was absolutely gorgeous. The fact that my highlights looked so good is the cause for the third star. I will probably go back, especially since I have a gift card now. But I'll definitely wear an old shirt, even if I don't get a color. read more

I've been here several times. And, yeah, Jamie is great. Right up until I went to book an appointment. I was offered a weekend a month out on a weekend I work. When I said that didn't work, the person on the phone didn't offer a single alternative. Just that was all he had. I guess I expect a little more effort from the person who answers the phone and books the appointments. If you have to go through this guy to get to Jamie, it's not worth the effort! I was going to write a glowing review of Jamie but really? There has to be someone out there who is a little more helpful. Jamie recently got a promotion that entitles her to charge more and probably make more for the salon. Couldn't they treat clients as if they valued them? If you're going to pay prime prices, you expect better service. It doesn't do any good to offer a soda and a hand massage if you can't even get in to see the stylist you want. Beware of going to this salon. Beware the chit chat and the hand massage and the soda. You just might find yourself in this position - out in the cold looking for a stylist again! UPDATED I read Chris' response. I respect what he said, but I was not offered a "wait list" and I was not offered a single other time, except a time that I was physically unable to be there, unless I called in sick to work. I was the one asking if this would work or if that would work. The scheduler literally had nothing to offer. It was as if he didn't care. What is ironic is that I asked him to ask Jamie if there was something she could do and he refused. Then a couple of days later, he called and said Jamie could do this or that to accommodate, which just speaks to my point that he COULD have done something, he just chose not to. read more

I see Jamie and think she is absolutely fantastic; she is very easy to chit chat with & has great attention to detail with whatever she is doing. If I could do 4 1/2 stars I would, and my only problem is that the cost of a basic hair cut is a little higher than what I would like; however, I choose to go here over a $15 place because of several reasons. The salon just had a recent remodel and looks fantastic... it's very comfortable and clean. They offer you something to drink, they do a shoulder/scalp after washing your hair, and they use Aveda hair products. read more

I have been blown away by my experience at Inspire and I'll tell you why. In my first appointment my hair came out all the wrong colour- OOPS! My pre-dyed hair just soaked up the new tone at an unexpected rate. Normally you think this would produce a bad review but I had quite the opposite experience. Not only Margaret, my stylist, make the surprise look fantastic with what we had but when my heart was really set on "a different look" she voluntarily booked a second appointment a week later to re-create something I lOVED. In my second experience, Katie did my hair and the combination of her and Margaret's work produced the most beautiful haircut/ colour I have ever had. To this day when I catch my hair in the mirror I'm stoked at the reflection. To top it off they appreciate their custmers with gifts and chocolate, the receptionist is always warm and flexible AND they are absolutely conscious minded about their products and their involvement in the community. 100% recommend. They need to stop triple and quadruple booking their stylists! The atmosphere is too loud and not peaceful at all. They put color in your hair and move you to a sitting area and then will start 2 or 3 more people while waiting for you to process which I don't mind, what I DO mind is the stylist looking over nervously at you after an hour of color on your head and then loudly asking for someone to shampoo you out while they are with another client. My hair came out way too dark and the stylist kept talking about how good the color came out. I won't be back. The hot tea and the scalp and hand massages may as well be the same as getting those done at a rock concert. There are much better high end salons out there with more peaceful ambience. read more

Kasey was so pleasant and personable, I was immediately put at ease. She did a wonderful cut and color and I'm very pleased with the results. The only surprise was the cost! I went to have my hair done with some touch up on the roots , as well as a hair trim , like I always do every 6 weeks ! I said to my stylist that I wanted to add to my hair color some golden blonde highlights all over to lighten my face ! She said she would not have enough time in my appointment to do so ! But , she still accommodated me and gave me some partial highlights in the front and a couple on both sides ! I knew it would cost me a little bit more for the partial highlights ! But, I didn't expect such a high bill ! I was charged $57 for a hair trim and blow dry ! But, I never have had my hair dried because I have wavy hair & my hair is medium length , to my shoulder ! I like my hair hydrated and curly ! I was shocked and felt numb when I saw the final bill ! But, I still paid it and gave 20% cash tip , as I always do ! ! I know & understand people work hard to satisfy & keep the customers happy to keep their business ! But, I will never go back to that salon ! This hair appointment cost me a fortune ! The receptionist was kind and made nice small talk while I waited 5 minutes for my appointment. Courtney was AMAZING. She looked at my pictures and helped me pick what I wanted based on realistic expectations. Initially I made the appointment to have just a cut and style with Courtney but then because I adored Courtney so much I ended up extending my appointment and having her fix my color. She gave me a beautiful blonde balayage that will not require a ton of upkeep and looks so natural with original blonde color. I can't say enough good things in this review. Went in for a cut and blow dry with Jenn M. My hair is naturally curly/frizzy. She used an Aveda product that tamed my hair and when she did the blow dry, the result was amazing. Later that day, I had an appointment for a manicure at another salon, and my friend and I were talking about how great my hair was. My friend and I couldn't stop running our hands through my long silky straight hair. The stylists at this salon were kind of jealous and wanted to know where I had it done, etc. They said that no one ever raved like that about them! I will go back because this is the best hair cut I have ever had. This is for real.
