Since April, I have been trying to get a lien removed from my car that was paid off over 17 years ago. Despite repeated attempts, I have been unable to speak with a manager or anyone with the authority to resolve this. I have gone in person to this credit union branch, called other individual locations, and contacted the main customer service line--only to be given the runaround every time. The credit union through which I originally purchased the car has changed hands several times, and I simply need documentation confirming that it became Credit Union 1. After months of effort, I finally reached someone who genuinely tried to help, only to be told they had reached a dead end. When I asked to escalate the issue, it became apparent that there is no accessible management structure or escalation process. This level of inefficiency and lack of accountability is unacceptable, especially for an issue that should be straightforward. Extremely frustrating experience. I'm now paying parking downtown for my car that I've been trying to sell since April. This is beyond unacceptable. I'm finally commenting here in the hopes that someone can help me. rude as all hell! they want to be hard ass power tripping clowns about everything. they are a co-op of the credit union i belong too but they wouldn't let me deposit money into my own account because my account address didn't match the address on my id (i literally moved LAST WEEK!!). Even my credit union laughed and said it was ridiculous when i called to ask them what to do about that until i can get a new id. the guy next to me couldn't withdrawal money because there was a middle initial on his id but not on his account. i get having fraud protection but this is over the f'n top. so then i try to use the ATM to deposit the money instead and they threaten to call the cops on me and have me "trespassed" for "monopolizing" the ATM. wtf read more

I had to get a cashier's check from this location, and both the bank tellers I interacted were unfriendly and just seemed like they were bothered to be assisting me. Ironically, the two females that were not tellers who were nearby on the left side as you walk in were nicer and welcomed me back in when I had gone back out to my car to move it. I had to drive all the way to Logan Square, and while I eventually got what I needed, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're actually looking for good customer service. read more

I won't be mean and blast the person's name in my review. But I had to give her a side eye when she tried to come for me. Very unprofessional to try and talk rudely to customers. Please be clear on how you talk to others especially when dealing with business. FYI the setup is totally different online than in person. Details are not fully accurate and clear. One of the reasons why I opened an account at the branch in Oak Lawn, IL, because it was convenient for me. However, they closed that branch, so now I have to go out of my way to go to another location. They have reversed several NSF fees for me, which I appreciate while in the midst of a financial hardship. On the other hand, I have received wrong information from call center representatives several times over the span of several years, which has costed me lots of time and frustration. False information was also given to me at the Evergreen Park, IL branch by an employee regarding the amount of money that would be available after depositing a check. Minutes later, I deposited the check, but only a portion of the amount that I was told was available. When I brought it to the person's attention who gave me the information, they found out that they were mistaken, but that there was nothing they could do about it. I needed the money that the representative told me would be available. If given the right information, I could have figured out another way of getting the money, like cashing the check at the payer's bank. My most recent incident was when they put through a check twice. I couldn't get through to the call center, so I chatted online with what they call Customer Service. The representative said that they were aware of the problem with being double charged, because their other customers were also affected, and that they were working to remedy the situation. They would be reversing any NSF fees due to the bank error. I asked about the fees incurred by the drawer's bank, which would eventually be passed on to me, and was informed that they could not reverse fees from other banks. read more

CU1 SUCKS! My account with them is NOT my main account. It was a former Source One credit union account which was taken over by CU1. I LOVED Source One. They were small and very easy to work with. Once my account became CU1, i primarily used the app or the ATM at the Logan Square location. I drove to the Logan Square location today to make a deposit only to learn it was closed the day before (thanks for the heads up) and my new location is 2030 N Halsted in Lincoln Park (crazy inconvenient for traffic and parking. I made the 15 min drive over there and could not find it. I stood in front of the address for 5 minutes looking for signage or anything that indicated I was in the right place. I saw a laser place and computer repair place but NO CU1. I called the 800 number which assured my they were there and open but was completely dismissing me tell them I was standing in front of the location and saw nothing to indicate CU1. The rep suggested several alternate locations that were more than 30 min away (more inconvenient). I found the number to the Halsted location and called. The rep said they are in fact there but the signage is not up yet. I asked her how is anyone suppose to know they are there if there is literally NOTHING that indicates they exist at that location. I asked why they didn't ever consider putting a hand written sign or something up since the location had just opened that day so members would not know how to find it. I got tons of apologies but I wasted an hour of time and gas for nothing and an apology doesn't cover that. I was told a manager would be calling me immediately because CU1 cares about its client's experiences but that hasn't happened so I guess they don't care much. Such a complete cluster screw up and total disappointment from a customer service perspective. read more

True Neighborhood Bank! Yezenia Jimenez and the whole team of bankers are wonderful. They will sit with you and figure out any situation. They've gone the extra mile to assist us during some of the most nerve-wracking financial situations we've had. We had our mortgage refinanced through them, opened Roth IRAs, managed savings, and opened a credit card. They are a full service bank with a small town feel. Mostly everyone who works at our branch have been working together for years. I give 4 stars only because the main office is moving our branch from Logan Square to Lincoln Park. We have a HELOC and have never borrowed against it~ There is a $75.00 yearly service fee which we did pay, but for what ever reason it arrived to them late~ They hit us up with a late fee of $30.00 which they then said they cannot accept anything less then $100.00! We have emailed and called/spoke with customer service reps and nothing has been resolved. For some odd reason We no longer get any invoices in the mail and when I hoped on the website I now see that there are 3 months of invoices(we have never received) and we are now in collections~ I will be cancelling this HELOC~ .....this HELOC originated through Guaranteed Rate, then sold to Evergreen then to Credit Union 1~ read more

The short version, they are not transparent with auto loans. Absolute waste of time. Antonese Evans was not transparent or thorough with the process and ultimately her lack of attention to detail will waste your time. When applying it was mentioned that one of us was self employed, but was asked for pay stubs to verify income. Later I was told I needed tax returns because the other applicant was self employed and she was unaware. I told her that on the initial application it was marked that they were self employed. Again, in the application I clicked the box saying I knew what car I was planning on getting. Not at ANY point was I asked what dealership it was coming from. Only after the both of us created accounts, asked the dealership for a bill of sale, talk to my work about taking time off to travel to pick up the car, send over to Antonese 2 references EACH like its 1998, 2 paystubs EACH, provide proof of insurance on a vehicle we do not own just to be told the dealership WAS NOT ON THEIR LIST. When I asked why I was not told this initially she responded with "we do not disclose the dealerships we work with." That's fine, why didn't you tell me any of this? "it's to protect you and us." I get that but why did you not tell me because I knew what dealership it was coming from. We played this cat and mouse game for a while running in circles when she kept insinuating it was my fault for never asking. I finally said "I can't ask if I didn't know there was a list. You knew there was a list, and I told you I knew where I was getting the car from you should have asked me." She replied with, "I didn't know it was coming from xxx motors, if I did I would have told you. But now that I have the bill of sale I'm telling you, it's not on our list." After that she put herself on repeat for 5 minutes until she knew there was no way out of it. Followed that I said to her, "what difference does it make since you'll be cutting me the check." To which she replied, "OH we don't cut you the check we cut the dealership a check." Nope, thats not what you said to me you said yesterday, and I quote, "we can cut you a check by tomorrow." Antonese said, "Just because I said we will cut you a check tomorrow doesn't mean it will have your name on it. We only cut a check to the dealership." I'm sorry, when you say we will cut YOU a check most people will assume that check will be made out to them. Alas this went on for a couple more minutes until she asked me to stop yelling. I said I wasn't yelling, but apparently it was fine when she was giving me sass the whole time trying to point fingers at me. And this was when her entire demeanor changed. So why did I open TWO brand new accounts, and do a hard credit pull for a loan I cannot use? read more

I question what the neighborhood of this bank is like, because the security guard sure stared me down, while i walked to the door. Stared me down like i was a criminal, which made me feel uncomfortable. Im a military veteran, so i returned the favor and stared right back at him in the eye, and then asked him "Are you alright?". Other than the security guard, and the sketchy lady at the door, this bank has always been good to me. Lets start with the horrible phone prompts, leads me to no where and after hanging up and trying 3 more times, it sends me to an add to purchase CRAP, Nothing that even has anything to do with my HELOC! SO right off, this is about 10 minutes lost. Then I finally get to a "customer service" agent and I give her the account and routing number of where I want them to get the money for my yearly fee for our HELOC, they place me on hold for another 6 minutes (so now I am in it for another 20 minutes) and she comes back to say she cannot take the payment because it is in my Husbands name!!!!! they can't take a flipping payment! The checking routing number has both of our names on it! So what will happen, as in previous years, they will send me a bill in the mail, I will pay it, and then I will get another bill because they add interest daily to the yearly servicing fee. I really love this credit union. Starting a savings account with Caballeros was a great decision. I have to go out of my way to get my money and that is definitely good and it means when I really need the money, I can get my money. The staff is nice and helpful and there are no issues in getting what you need. I'm thinking that I may even use them for a personal loan at some point. They seem to have good rates. Check them out. After 2 months of trying to get it removed I was told they have taken it off, the only problem was they told me they couldn't adjust my monthly payment. They advertise a good deal that allows you to make a balance transfer and get 2% back. In other words, if you transfer $5,000, they will give you $100. Since I didn't want to pass up free money, I went to their Logan Square facility to apply midday on a Tuesday. I was told to expect a call later that day or early the next day once they got the approval/disapproval. Wednesday afternoon, I tried to call them, because they hadn't called me, but they don't answer their phone, and their voicemail box is full and would not take messages. I went there, but after waiting while another customer was being served, I was told that they still hadn't received a go/no-go. I tried calling several times on Friday, but got the same outgoing message, so I tried their Call Center, that emailed the Logan Square office. Finally, on Monday, at noon, I got a call from that office, telling me that I was disapproved. I was supposed to get something in writing, but that did not come for another week and a half. It said that my Experian credit score was 781, but I get alerts from Experian when my score changes, and it was higher both before and after their inquiry. They said that I had too many newly opened accounts and hard inquiries, but I only had 1 of each. Apparently, Credit Union 1 figured that they wouldn't make any money by doing business with me (I always pay my bills on time, so I don't pay interest.). After all of my trouble, the only thing I got was a hard inquiry on my credit file that will count against my score. read more

I love being part of a credit union. Sometimes it can be a bit inconvenient, but it's definitely worth it, imho. I have an account with a different credit union out of state. I needed to exchange some cash for quarters, and after looking online, I found this location a couple of blocks from my new apartment. I stopped by on a Saturday morning, and it was exactly what I needed. There's a lot across the street for parking, along with an ATM. Inside the branch, there were at least 4 tellers ready to assist, a greeter, a guard, and other office staff. The people were pleasant and the entire transaction was quick and easy. I'm so happy I found this place, especially with them being open on Saturdays. It's a pretty good branch! read more

I recently joined this credit union for the sole purpose of convenience. There is an ATM nearby so instead of paying fees to use it, I joined; however, this was my experience: The greeter that day, the front line person engaging with the customers, clearly has had no training and exemplifies how Mickey Mouse this bank is. Although I understand the questions she asked me were standard after I asked to open a checking account, not only did I feel unwelcomed, I felt like I was being challenged as if I wasn't good enough to be a member. (IMPORTANT NOTE: they check your credit and it's a hard pull) She then says they check your credit. I inquire whether it's a hard pull out not, she didn't know what I was asking - another example of poor training. Don't talk about things you aren't prepared to answer questions about, and not to mention I was interrupting her personal call. Although some might think it is helpful to know it might be a slight wait, the way she told me it's going to take some time to meet with a banker was further unwelcoming. Overall she wasn't friendly. Again, if this wasn't a matter of convenience, I would've walked out right then. After waiting for a bit, the banker says hello. Am I crazy to expect a handshake in a business like a bank? It's retail banking and basic customer service, not to mention basic manners. Maybe she had a Howie Mandel germ phobia; otherwise, how disappointing. I'm running out of characters so after some computer problems on their end, taking forever to open the account, and not setting up the online banking correctly which required a call to their 800 # (which went great by the way), I was set up. So since I just joined, I'm giving it 2/5. I hope they don't go down to 1/5 in my book, but they're definitely not a 3 right now. I used to live within 3-5 minutes of this location and would much rather dive to their downtown or Evergreen Park location. Very stand-offish atmosphere and secret type of whispering from the employees when i asked certain questions about "MY" account info. When asked to speak with the very aloof manager, I was told he was gone for the day....while I could see him clearly sitting at his desk in his office!
