I mean, they're not just at the bottom of the hill, they're in the river at the bottom of the valley next to the hill, canoeing. I don't know whether to start by describing the racial slurs that some customers throw around in the lobby at employees, or the employees that lie with a straight face to customers. Then there is the loan officer who takes a week or two in order to return a phone call without having any kind of answer to your question, and stonewalls about everything, assuming they even know what they're talking about (which may not be the case, don't take their expertise for granted). Did I mention the stonewalling alternates with f-bomb laden tirades at how much of a "pain in the ass it is to have to speak with customers" to begin with? Do yourself a huge favor and use a bank without the delusion of grandeur, and where there's some small semblance of professionalism. I don't know which bank that might be, but I do know it's not this one.

Everything is fine with the account and the actual banking services, but I've noticed two points worth sharing: On the good side, service is absolutely fantastic at this bank. Every single person with whom I have dealt basically falls all over themselves to assist me, and it doesn't even seem faked. Apparently they either hire or train (or both) for great customer service. This is a major asset when a customer is doing something new and may need some hand-holding. On the bad side, the ATMs are like something out of the Dark Ages. I have been spoiled by a decade of using Chase ATMs, I suppose. First, there are far, far fewer 5/3 ATMs than Chase (I can't comment on the availability of other banks'). Secondly, the design and screen interface seem so dim and clunky and just generally not modern and user-friendly, sort of like an old Apple IIe. Thirdly, Fifth Thirds ATMs still require deposit envelopes! How primeval. And of course the first time that I went to this location to make a deposit, they didn't have any envelopes. A few days later I tracked down another 5/3 branch more or less on my commute home (but not really) and stocked up on envelopes. A major pain in the ass just to deposit a single check.

I had over $200,000 in my account and wrote checks to pay my vendors and contractors totaling around $20,000, and then another set of checks totaling around $35,000. I processed the checks through the bank's OWN online check system on 8/9/23 and the second set of online checks on 8/21/23. These were all lawful checks paid to vendors, employees, law firms, and landlords. The checks were backed by my lawful funds in my lawful account; the vendors are lawful vendors, landlords, and law firms, who provided me lawful services and properties. WITHOUT even telling me, LAKESIDE BANK rejected all but TWO of the checks. These are lawful vendors who provided me with lawful services, and expected timely payment. I did not find out until THURSDAY 8/24/23 (note that my checks were processed through Lakeside's OWN ONLINE CHECK SYSTEM on 8/9/23 and 8/21/23) and that the checks that were supposed to be issued through the online portal were rejected... meaning that because of LAKESIDE BANK'S mismanagement, meddling, and unscrupulous practices, each vendor who was to receive my lawful funds did not receive it.. putting their business and personal lives and financial lives at great risk. LAKESIDE BANK is poorly managed, behaved irresponsibly, and behaved in an unscrupulous manner. Had they simply TOLD ME that they did not want to honor my good and lawful checks processed through THEIR OWN system, I could have made other payment arrangements to my LAWFUL vendors and landlords. Instead, their poor and unscrupulous practices put me and my vendors at risk. LAKESIDE BANK broke its fiduciary duty to me and broke its trust with me. This is a horrible bank with terrible management, terrible compliance, and terrible practices. One of my law firms is in process of filing a complaint with both the FDIC (Federal regulators) and the Illinois Department of Financial Regulators.
