Deposited a foreign check back in 2004 for $35,000 after waiting 3 weeks for CUO to clear it. Five weeks later I was told that I owed them $8000 for withdrawls I had made because the check came back non sufficient funds. I told them that they cleared the check and it was not my fault. Terrible service, inconsistent information provided, rude bank manager. I've used banks and credit unions for over 35 years but several years ago decided it would be credit union only for me because the service was consistently better at a credit union. I switched from my old credit union to CU One because there was a branch in the office building I worked at and it was convenient. I thought it would be like other credit unions-big mistake. I've had nothing but problems with them. After carefully reading their policy on checks written to two people, I determined that I could deposit an insurance refund check written to my daughter and I as long as she signed it. Well, not at an ATM, they returned the check to the insurance company and charged me $35. When I talked to the bank manager, she admitted that the policy was confusing and she wished they'd be clearer because ATM deposits are handled differently. They don't tell you that until you have a problem and complain to someone in person; emails through their own "contact us" system have never been responded to and phone calls to the main number resulted in different information from what I was told at the branch office. I just had yet another issue with a deposit, and after a conversation with a rude person at the branch decided to check reviews in case it was just this branch-guess not. I hate to switch credit unions again but I'm tired of dealing with CU One, besides, the branch at the office building was replaced with a different bank- now I know why now. read more

I was behind on some bills so tried to take out a small loan since i had already had direct deposit but they denied me, the only other option i had was to take out some online cash advances but i really didnt want to. I took out one loan and it was paid back but it wasnt enough so i had to take out an additional one, to make the long story short i had to close my account before the other loan was taken out so i did.. I started receiving letters after my account was closed saying i owe them 1200 and now Im in the process of getting garnish by this sorry ass Credit Union. Credit Union One started out great for me, but the last two years have been horrible. I asked them to set up my account so my card would be denied if it didn't have enough funds. It worked for a while, then stopped working, so they said they would reset it. They did not, and because of that, I racked up overdrafts that I'm still negotiating with them. This is one of many incidences where I have felt royally screwed. The people on the phone line are always nice, as are the tellers, but the lead workers at the 15 mile rd location are AWFUL to deal with. Nothing but gaslighting and trouble. I'm switching CU's as soon as my current issue is resolved. read more

Applied for a new joint account with my son. NEITHER of us have had an account with them previously. However, I was denied an account! I called to ask why and a sarcastic lady who answered the phone was quite b****y about it. Her first response was I had been on an account with someone previously and this person had a loss. I asked for more information - like the year, who the person was, etc. She changed her story - she said it was not previously "I have no idea what you did previously" (her words) it was the person with whom I had applied with this time that had the previous loss. I proceeded to tell her this person they claim had a loss is my son AND he already applied and was approved for a new account with them. She said "Michelle if you want to know further information ask your son". I then said how does that work - he was approved a brand new account a few weeks ago and now I am denied becuse he had a loss with you previously?!?!! Seems backwards to me. Also seems your information is incorrect. "Yes" was my only answer. Needless to say, I did tell him what the hag said, he has no idea what she is talking about. Worst banking experience of my life. I chose Credit Union One mainly out of convenience because it was close to home & I've always preferred credit unions. On a rushed lunch one day I ran into to the bank to order new checks after a move. The woman that assisted me talked me into this great savings plan as long as I had direct deposit. Being that I was rushed, I didn't read the info or ask the right questions so I take some of blame for sure but I had an uneasy feeling about it for some reason right away. (I should always trust my gut!) needless to say I said just do it & 3 short months later I was laid off from my job. So now that I no longer have direct deposit they told me I had to either have that or use my debit card at least 15 times a month or I would be charged $6 dollars every single month. Obviously if I'm unemployed & not having anything directly deposited into my account how in the heck would or could I use my debit card 15 times a month??? No more free checking & they would not let me switch back to the free checking. Why?? That's just their policy I was told. So brand new customers can come in & get free checking anytime but someone that has been loyally with them for years now is essentially being punished for losing her job. They treat you great to get you & then they could care less about you once they have you.That's the way I've been treated anyway. When you're unemployed $6 bucks a month is milk & bread on the table or a tank & half of gas etc. So outrageous imo. Is there such thing as 0 stars??? This Credit Union is the WORST! I would put their customer service department right up there with cable companies or cell phone companies. Due to a banking error on their part, they decided to (on the last day of the month, to make things even worse) remove every payment I ever made on my auto loan to correct some error they made on my account 7 months ago. They left my account like this for a week, negative, showing I never paid, even though I made every payment on time! I called that day and raised a red flag even. But because of their accounting mistake and lack of consumer empathy, my account delinquency was sent to a collection agency and to each of the three credit bureaus on the first of the month, as if I were some bad person that never paid. When I called them on the 31st they promised me this would not happen, they promised me that they report things like this manually, and because it was due to an error on their part I would be fine. I was told this by 3 different customer service team members by the way. Well it wasn't okay. It still isn't okay. My credit score dropped over 200 points and they don't seem to care. They say that the issue is being fixed, but I don't trust them that it is. I have asked to speak with a manager 3-4 different times and left several messages via phone and email with ZERO response. They have proved to be impossible to work with. Even though my account is now supposedly "fixed" at CUOne, I have had to file my own disputes with the credit bureaus and with the collection agency. Which is such BS! As soon as this is resolved, I will be moving my loan to another credit union, or maybe even a bank!-hey why not right? CUOne has ruined the high hopes that I had for thinking credit unions are better. Trust me, DO NOT get a loan here, DO NOT move your accounts here. Their customer service is the worst, their accounting department obviously doesn't know what they are doing, and the managers are non-existant. I have an auto loan with them that has been a complete hassle. I can't pay online, because I am not a Credit Union ONE member. Instead, I have to use Bill Pay, which is a hassle because I can't see the balance on my account. (Also, it took many many attempts to even figure out that I couldn't pay them directly online like any other creditor.) Next, I got a letter from them saying that they didn't have proof of insurance. Which my (reputable, national) insurance company sent to them when my policies renewed in June, but which they claim to have never received. So I called my insurance company to have them send ANOTHER verification, which they now also claim not to have received. They are now threatening to buy CPI insurance for $3500/year to cover my "uninsured" car, and they note in the letter that they will make a profit from doing do. Guess that's why they keep "not finding" my proof of insurance. WILL NEVER USE AGAIN. read more

Do not use Credit Union One if you are planning on buying a home. Their mortgage department is clueless, inept and misleading. We had a home sold to their clients, for a mutually agreed upon price. Credit Union 1 assigned an appraiser, the appraisal (done 2 weeks after the home inspection which passed with flying colors) was in line with the agreed upon home sale price. It took 60 days from the signed offer, all the time being assured by the mortgage broker that things were "on track" and would probably close early. 4 days before the scheduled closing (after 60 days), the "underwriter" stated the appraisal was not good, requested more "comps", which were provided by realtors and rejected by the underwriter. They nixed the loan to their 30+ year clients (the buyers). The buyers lost out and the sellers (us) did, too, after our house was off the market for 2 months. Not to mention, the mortgage broker was quite rude in his emails to his clients and their realtor (which we were copied on). read more
