We (my boyfriend, son and I) were just there tonight for my sons birthday. My son is an adult with severe autism with intellectual disability which means he is low verbal but enjoys movies and outings. I am a recovering cancer patient who had chemotherapy and radiation treatment in 2023/2024 and now deal with osteoarthritis which has disabled me especially in the hips and low back where I wear a brace under my sweater or sweatshirt frequently. Tonight my son ate before we took him to sushi (his choice) for his birthday. My son was mistakenly fed by his worker before we took him to dinner and so he overate for the day. When we were getting snacks at the counter in the theater my son burped and it caused him to throw up a bit of food. I asked for paper towels to clean up the floor and apologized and the staff rushed out to clean the lobby floor after my boyfriend made a cursory swipe with a small pile of napkins while I talked to and observed my son. I have not directly taken care of of my son recently and I wanted to be sure he was ok. When purchasing our tickets and snacks I asked for a bag for our snacks, and they did not have one. I also asked for mustard for the hot dog and pretzels we ordered and we were given tiny containers (and not packets or a condiment stand which we are used to) and so I decorated the hot dog at the counter ( and there was no trash can there to toss the cup) to have one less thing to carry into the theater while I held my sons hand. My son has a tendency to jump and be noisy when he gets excited and I did not want him to scare anyone. ( He is 6 foot tall and now sports a small beard). When we were in the theater and seated watching the previews my son burped again and threw up food. He had only had sips of soda at this point. I asked my boyfriend to grab some napkins and the next thing I knew we had several staff come in with paper towels and a mop while the previews were playing. NOTE we were all the way at the back of the theater already so as to cause the least amount of disturbance should my son get excited and vocalize. There were only about 10 other people in the entire theater and the closest were 4 rows away. The manager told me, if your son throws up again, I ask that you leave. I had my son throw away the 7 dollar hot dog we had just purchased and he sat sipping his pepsi. About 1/3rd of the way into the movie my son burped again and threw up. NOTE he isn't sick. It only went on the cement floor and we were no where near anyone. And so we just settled in to watch the movie. He laughed and enjoyed the silly lines the alien had and enjoyed the space scenes. It's hard to tell what he understands and does not. But I know he loves to go to the theater, I took him last to see Deadpool & Wolverine at this very theater with his friend. After the movie, we got up to go to the bathroom and get some paper towels to clean up. At the door we were greeted by two young women one of whom stood in my way and accused me of trying to "sneak out" and both of whom said we had not "thanked them" for helping clean up. And for not leaving after the general manager had told us we should leave should my son have any more events. I told the one girl I was on my way to the bathroom to get paper towels and she instead jumped in my way 4 times as I attempted to walk past to the bathroom ( no joke) and would not let me pass. I said to her, "look I am a grown woman" as she in an insultingly sweet voice said "we can get any supplies you require for you to clean up" as she and the other gal stood there and stared at us like we should stand in a hall all night... and contemplate it all. And I said, well I was going for paper towels. And finally the second gal went and grabbed a roll of them. The first one then gave a running loud litany about what horrible people we were and how they were "not our servants" (while I stated I had asked for paper towels so we could clean up ourselves) my boyfriend cleaned the floor and I handed him paper towels. They were rude, demeaning and derogatory. I explained I had recently recovered from cancer and she went on to say so are we done? ( Yes we are done... don't worry, we won't be back. We won't spend almost 100 dollars there again. We won't recommend the theater especially to anyone with disability or autism or a senior or in recovery. And really after more then 40 years of training people in hospitality and service work. Lady.... you need therapy. ( incidentally I have been to the theater many times over the years. Hey so I don't understand all of the negative reviews at all. The cinema was so very clean and employees were lovely. A true nostalgic neon experience for those who love the retro vibe. Tickets were only $7 for a 4:00 movie. I would give 4.5 stars only because the volume of the movie was extremely loud. I realized why after the show started next door, and I could hear it a bit through the wall, but you start to forget after a while. We are lucky to have such an adorable cinema with such great choices in our small town. I want to go back just to have fun in the arcade! Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Quite frankly, Crescent City is lucky to have a movie theater with 7 screens and cheap prices. I might have closed the place down in the era of streaming. We were the only ones in our movie, 2:30 Saturday Matinee. The popcorn and pop prices appeared expensive, but we never purchase movie theater food. I came to watch Jurassic World. You have to wait in the snack line to buy a ticket. The few groups of people in front of me ordered a lot of food so you have to wait until their food order is completw just to buy a ticket. Where I live, you can buy your tickets from a kiosk or there is a seperate ticket counter to buy your tickets. So it was odd to have to wait in the food line for 20 minutes just to get a ticket. It was if it was foriegn for someone to buy a ticket only. In the theater, you could hear the movie playing in the next room, so the walls dont have very good insulation. Living in a populated area I may be spoiled when it comes to movie theaters, since every theater around now has reclining seats. The theater in Crescent City does not. They are still sporting the "old" seats where you have to actually sit up straight, with your feet on the ground *scoff*. Only kidding of course. It brings back a certain nostalgia that and seeing a movie or two the way I used to is worth reliving. The screens and theaters are very small, and the walls are so thin that you can hear the movie next door during quiet moments. However, the picture quality was good, there were so scruffs on the screen, and the sound for the most part was pretty good as well. They have a decent snack bar with funny people running it, and they have a ticket machine near the entrance, so you can avoid waiting the lines to purchase at the box-office or concession stand. It's a small-town theater, and it shows and that's OK. read more

Being from San Diego and having multiple IMAX theaters within a short drive I'm used to the best possible. I read the previous reviews and was expecting a messy nightmare of a theater. My theater was nice clean and comfortable. Although the seats aren't stadium style they are quite comfortable. Since I saw a movie by myself I have zero complaints here. The screen isn't small for the size of the theater. There are 12 rows with 11 chairs in each, my theater only had one aisle. My movie (Monument Men) was displayed with a digital projector so I can't comment on how their movies on film look. Audio of the movie was loud and clear but you could hear some of the action sequences next door. My 2 cents, if you come here to see an action flick you'll never hear your neighbors. People were nice although they didn't want me to bring my backpack into the theater. I found out the reason when I entered the theater that there was only one aisle. Since I was alone in the theater they let me in with it. I assumed it was to keep food out but it looks like its a safety thing. Also I wanted to add that I feel the $8.50 ticket is just a tad too steep. I didn't buy any candy but that was priced high as well. I didn't look to see if the popcorn and soda was because I wasn't interested. All in all, if I were in town to see a movie I would do it again. I don't mind seeing movies on smaller screens but I'll save the big blockbuster movies for when I'm back home in an IMAX! read more

Crescent City is a small town and this is a small town theater, so if you're expecting an Imax experience, this is not the place for you. Ticket prices are what you would expect them to be. Snacks are expensive but that's the norm. Theaters are clean and the staff is friendly. Arrive early for first run blockbuster showings as there is no ticket master, tickets are purchased at the concession and there will most likely be a line. The arcade has a nice selection of games. My husband and I go here about once a month and while it's true, you can sometimes hear movies in other theaters, it's certainly not as distracting as some reviewers would have you believe. Really, some of the negative reviews are ridiculous. The theater is in a shopping center next to Safeway and is completely safe. read more

You should have seen the look on the guys face when I told him I wanted my money back because the film was scratched, out of focus, and the intermittant is so off it's like watching a strobe light, and no one should have to pay to watch a poor film presentation and walk out with a headache. I hate that theatre, I don't know why I keep trying to see flicks there, it's always a really poor presentation...Oh it's because unfortunately, the next closest theatres are 30 miles to the north, or 85 miles to the south. The sound is always too quiet, and no matter who or howmany times they ask to turn it up when the feature starts, they never do. Funny how we can always hear the theatre next door louder than the one we are in, no matter which film or theatre. They also have a continual problem with not taking the metal tape off from previous theatres, so often after the previews the damper will go down, and the film will continue to run with sound, but no picture - and they act like they are totally surprised every time. One would think they would have someone standing by to head off the problem at each showing until they can have a projectionist fix it, but no...they just wait until someone complains at everyshow. They obviously never fix it for the entire run as we have gone on final showing dates and this still happens. Once we had to get our money back because the screaning room smelled like vomit. I made the manager go in to check the room and he said he didn't smell anything, so I asked the 20 other patrons to please raise their hands if they smell that vomit smell, and every one raised in agreement. I got my money back that day too, I still can't figure out why the rest of them stayed. Oh, and the fat guy sweats in the popcorn. What happens when people with no clue run a theare? Problems. Heaven Is for Real at Crescent City, California Saturday night May 4th, 2014 The movie was to start at 8:50pm. We arrived 20 min early thinking it might be busy and wanted to geta good seat. 8 people total were there We watched the previews and then it happened...... 1). The first 5 minutes of the movie several of us were yelling and screaming in hopes someone might hear us to turn the lights off. They never dimmed or anything. Finally, myself and another person went out to see if we could get some help. "Someone will be there as soon as we can", said the guy behind the counter. OK as if he were busy with 3 people in line. 10 more minutes pass and all no one. Going back out to find no one around. Thankfully there was a light switch in the back. 2). When watching a movie, it would be nice to hear it. Now, but we could certainly heard the movie next door way better than our own. We heard the massive booms. I seem to remember something about movies wereto be turned up pretty loud so people could only hear the one your in. At least the one next door was loud. Nope sorrynot loud, excruciatingly loud. But then again I did not pay for that movie . I wanted to watch Heaven Is for Real. I just wish I could have heard what they were saying instead of trying to figure out. When we got up and left, there was one worker there behind the counter, trying to talk to a couple who were also upset about the whole issue. It sounded as I'd they knew each other. After investigating the whereabouts of the other employees, they were watching the other movies. Now I pride myself as someone who loves movies and tries to see all the new ones at many different theater locations. I also love to travel and visit different theaters. Gotta start with the positives: 1) The fact that a multiplex is here at all is very cool. We drive the twenty five miles whenever there is something we want to see that's not playing in Brookings. 2) Three pinball machines! O.k.... I know I'm in the minority here, but im a huge pinball geek and there is nowhere else to play. 3) Friendly staff under trying circumstances. ...and now, the not so good. 1) I recommend arriving at least twenty minutes before the movie starts, because this place is severely understaffed. The outside box office is never utilized... You must stand in line inside and the concession staff sells you your tickets and snacks. Arrived 15 minutes early for "Gone Girl" and was still late getting in. Two employees selling everything. The weird thing is there is no one at the door or the theater entrance so sneaking in looks like a breeze. 2) As others have mentioned, sound from the movies in adjoining theaters sometimes drown out the movie that you're actually watching. Missed key bits of dialog because of the noise from the action flick next door. 3) No stadium seating and golden drizzle instead of real butter. Since they're the only game in town, we keep coming back despite these issues. I just wish management would hire more staff, especially for weekend showings. read more

I hate to be redundant and just repeat what others have been saying... However I think this business isn't learning from its mistakes. I went to see the Star Wars VII premiere. The movie started 10 minutes late, and I immediately noticed that noise from the other screening rooms could be heard in mine. And right at the climax of the movie, an advertisement started playing on top of the other image... What?! I missed the best part! The redeeming factors to me were that (1) the staff weren't ignorant or careless, and actually put effort into their job; (2) the arcade room has more to offer than a lot of modern theaters; (3) the place is generally pretty clean. I was also thankful that they were showing a 7 p.m. premiere instead of midnight. Go elsewhere if you can. But it will do if you're out of options. read more

I feel like management is doing what they can with this location and the owner should invest some $$. The staff were friendly and competent when we were there mid day on a Tuesday for a matinee. Alexander waited on us and was the right amount of chatty. A nice guy. This place is not a mega plex. No stadium seating. The screen didn't seem to be HD oddly. The picture was not sharp. The sound quality lacking. My seat was lop sided. Husband said his sloped down. I stood up for part of movie because I was uncomfortable. I had to chuckle because another patron was standing up in back too. I tried two more seats and gave up the idea of comfort. It would be nice if the owner would invest in upgrades. Matinee price was $7.50, which in my opinion is high compared to other theaters at same price for matinees that offer amenities of a 2018 movie theater. The popcorn was fresh and soda fizzy. But hey! For the price and convenience it's worth it. Early bird tickets are $5.50. Show times can be seen on their website. Concession stand looks a bit expensive, but aren't most. Then once we finally found the right theater for the mummy, we found it trashed as if it hadn't been cleaned since the day before. We told them about it and they constantly came up with excuses rather then go address the problem. When we asked for a refund they tried everything they could to not give us one. This theater is a good example of what happens where there is no other competition in town. They let the place go to pot because people have no other options if they want to go to the movies. This is easily the worst theater I've ever been to. The inside of the place is dreary and depressing, the seats are small and uncomfortable, most of the screens have marks/damage on them, and the walls are paper thin so you can hear the loud movies next door. Generally speaking, these auditoriums the coldest I've ever been in. Some of the exit signs are so close to the screen that a red glow covers the bottom 4th of the picture (kinda cool if you're watching a horror movie, but annoying for anything else). Oh, and if you go to a late showing don't expect to get the free refill on your popcorn because they close the concession stand down as soon as possible. The movie selection is also pretty weak. You're lucky if they play anything that isn't expected to be a big earner. Indie films? What are those?? The staff is generally really friendly, and the prices are what you'd expect, but the theater itself is not up to par. On the plus side, there is an OK selection of arcade games. read more

First note you can hardly find this place on Yelp. In spite of the other review panning this place, my wife and I decided to give it a try. After all, how badly can a cinema be screwed up? Quite it turns out. This establishment is the poster child for how not to run a business. We arrived at 1:58 for a 2:00 pm movie. There was no ticket seller so we went inside to join a line of 30 or so people. So help me I am not lying, there is *one* person working and she is making popcorn, selling popcorn and goodies, and selling tickets. Slooooooowly. I don't know that she was an affirmative action type of hire but she seemed clearly baffled by the situation. Having noticed from the other review that production problems did occur in this place, we asked if considering that there were 30 people waiting to buy tickets if the movie would be held up. Answer = no - it's all automatic. Pretty clear that customer satisfaction was a distant second to the concession ripoff. Exit to never return. read more

This is a sad, sad cinema. It's in a less than desirable location where you might get accosted going to a from your car by the large homeless community that lives directly behind it or witness someone pee on the sidewalk (both which I've seen happen) but once you get inside it's not much better. The theater is outdated (not in a cool vintage way) and so cold you need to bring a heavy coat or blanket while watching your movie. The theater rooms themselves are in the smaller size and the seats are okay, but not great. The walls are thin and you can hear the movie nextdoor playing. And I kid you not, the last time I was there someone was listening to the radio in the projector room and we could hear it through out the duration of the movie. The only positives are the staff are nice and friendly, the snacks are decent (but on the pricey side) and there is an arcade that the community seems to enjoy. I hope whoever owns the theater starts investing money back in. read more

This is a really friendly and nice cinema. People are upset because of all of the wrong reasons. There are super friendly staff that is helpful and there are never any big problems with this place. All of the theaters are pretty large and I have enjoyed every movie I've seen there. One complaint is that we were watching a movie and no one else was in there then some random lady decides to sit next to us(out of about 100 other seats) and starts eating a 5 course meal as loud as possible, but again not the theaters fault read more

The people there are really friendly and fast. The movies are good, screen quality is good, theater is clean, the sound is good, there is a great arcade and pool tables, food prices like most theaters are high but that's the only way these theaters make their money, and the food is good. The biggest issue is that it can be quite cold so bring a blanket or oversized coat just in case. Before my mom passed she wanted to see a movie, she was frail and in her last months, I called and requested they turn the heat up for the show she was going to see and they did. This theater, if it can be called that, sucks. The game room has multiple games that just eat quarters and when you complain all they say is that its up to corporate to fix them, they then scoff you off when you ask them to put an out of order sign up so no one else loses their money on them. The theater is tiny, my 56lb son could barely fit in the seats. The sound and video are horrendous until the movie previews come on then it blasts you so loud you can't think. The theater itself was filthy and reeked of urine, sticky floors and seats, left over trash from the previous viewing, just plain disgusting. I just watched Ant-man with my wife. It was our date night and started out great at dinner. Then we decided to go see a movie. Unfortunately the theatre here in Brookings wasn't playing the movie. We had read the reviews here but we said "no way it could be that bad...." Oh lord were we WRONG! First we had to buy our tickets at the concession stand (weird) but OK. The guy working barley even looked at me because he was busy cleaning etc. I don't blame him because he probably has way too many things that had to be done. Mind you this is Sat. night during summer and I only saw 2 employees. So we sit in the theatre and the movie next door was loud and clear in ours. Was supposed to start at 850 pm, 925pm the movie hadn't even started yet. So the girl from the other couple (only us and 1 other couple) leaves to find out what was going on. She returns and says that they will start the movie. Couple minutes later the previews start. At first I thought it was odd they were playing kid movie previews. Then the movie started, "told my wife I didn't know the minions were in Ant-man..... wait WTF!" It is now 940 pm. All at the same time the "whole" four of us jump up and say it's getting late and we want refunds. When we get to the lobby the guy working on concessions is now mopping the floors. I got his attention, he started coming over. I said "It's the wrong movie". Then from behind me I hear a rude woman's voice say " what's wrong? " I said "you're playing the wrong movie." "What movie did you want to see?" she said. "Ant-man" I replied. "What movie is playing? " she asked. (Ant-man was on 1 screen in the theatre). "Minions" I said. " oh let me go start it" she replied. "no It's getting late I've been waiting for almost an hour past the time it was supposed to start, I want a refund." I asserted. Quickly she says "its not my fault, it started on time. It says on the back of the tickets NO REFUNDS! I can give you a voucher." At this point I was getting upset that she hadn't even apologized or anything remotely close. "So you're basically telling me to go F myself?" Raising my voice. (hand on hip, looked like she wore her uniform to bed) Said "Did I say that? I offered you vouchers. We don't give refunds it says on your ticket. What do you want to do?" At this point the girl from the other couple says to her BF "lets just watch it." Well there goes our plan I thought. Frustrated, I walked in to the theatre and just took it right up the rear from this place. Cause guess what, they are the only one within 2hrs. I have never had such a horrible experience before at any movie theatre in 35 years. Avoid this place if you can...... I would rather drive 2hrs than step foot in this place.
