Was passing through town when my check engine light came on. Someone at this shop immediately hooked up a device to check the error when I pulled in and found it was only an issue with a catalytic converter sensor and I was able to continue my cross country road trip. Our car was overheating the way up the mountain . After a AAA tow and pouring coolant in the radiator ever hour , we thought it must have a leak or something worse .... Simply amazing!!! My radiator blew right as I pulled into crested butte on a Thursday morning. I limped my truck over to their shop where they said they were booked till Tuesday. However they ordered the part that day and by some miracle got the part the next day so I wasn't stranded all weekend. This happened while I-70 was closed for mudslides and the part had to come from Denver to grand junction and then to crested butte. They kept calling the parts company to get updates on if the part would make it by Friday. Simply a miracle that they were able to get the part and get me driving again by 3pm Friday. I appreciate them springing into action so I didn't have to sleep in my car over the weekend since all the hotels were sold out. Very trustworthy and helpful. read more

Traveled to Crested Butte on a ski trip when we noticed we had a screw in our tire. We called this shop in desperate need of patch job when they said they could do it but we would have to drop the car off overnight. We said okay, but asked if they could put on the donut for us instead because this was our only form of transportation. They said no. Didn't even think about it. They then gave us the idea to change the donut ourselves and bring them the flat tire??? and on top of that we could not do it in their parking lot??? So we really had no choice but to change it and bring them the tire as this was a desperate situation. We asked for a patch (because they're known to be better) and they plugged the hole... Then to put the cherry on top, they wouldn't put the fixed tire back on and told us to do it ourselves because "it didn't take you very long to do it earlier". They took advantage of us because they knew we were in a tough situation and had no other options. Would not recommend read more

CB auto was the absolute worst auto repair experience I have ever had in my entire life. I dropped my car off with them and received it back after 28 days. A week and a half after they had told me I would have the car back. I asked them for some consideration of the fact that they had taken a MONTH to complete the work on my car. They offered me what ammounted to a 4% discount, IF I SPENT ANOTHER $250 with them. Gee, thanks. Then, when I called them out for taking so long, I got a call back from the owner accusing me of trying to play his staff member off of him. When I tried to interject, he kept speaking over me. I would never ever recommend CB auto to anyone, not even my worst enemy. Stay away from this awful shop. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. I have spoken with Co-Workers who have told me about CB Auto charging them excessively for repairs, for oil changes, etc. They've also told me about how long CB Autos takes to get anything done. DO NOT GO HERE. Finally, they refused to accept a credit card from me and asked for cash or a cashiers check. read more

STAY AWAY! I had a simple tire repair while we were on vacation in CB and took it to this place. Opps - I made a big mistake. Walked in and said "hello" as no one greated me. A man said "What?" Ask if they could fix a flat. He mumbled something and said leave the tire and come back tomorrow. At that point, I had a feeling to RUN - Run really fast. I didn't, as I didn't think it would hurt. When I returned the next day, they had the tire ready and charged me $35 bucks. I think that is the "charge the vacationer guy rate as I don't care as I'll never see him again rate". Guess what - the next morning - the tire was flat again. Moral of the story - If you have a feeling to run, then run like Forrest Gump and don't stop running. read more

These guys were amazing. CB Auto provided the most genuine & honest experience I've ever had at an auto shop. My car started to make odd noises while driving over Monarch Pass to CB for a weekend trip with friends. My friends needed to catch flights from DIA early Monday morning and fixing the car before then seemed unlikely. I called the shop and reached John right before closing Friday evening. Without having an appointment or ever using CB Auto prior, John offered to take a drive with my vehicle to assure it's safety for return trip Sunday. The crew was quick to diagnose my car's alignment issue and then, stayed past close to fix the problem! As a result of the complications, I needed a new tire to replace my completely worn down one. John called a shop in Gunnison on my behalf (one of few open on Saturdays) to see if they had the size tire I needed & then confirmed they could work on my car first thing the next morning. The guys were extremely friendly and helpful from my initial call to the end of my visit. When I asked how much I owed them, they told me not to worry about it. Our trip back to Denver would have been delayed through Monday, had it not been for their willingness to fit me in that evening. CB Auto, THANK YOU! read more

Contrary to other reviewers I had a great experience with CB Auto Repair. We got two (!!!) flats late on the Saturday of July 4th weekend and had to get towed to their shop. They were in on Sunday of the holiday weekend and took great care of us. As we had to leave to visit friends in another part of Colorado that day, this was a real life-saver! Pricing was reasonable for their work and the folks at the store were professional and friendly. read more

We were on vacation in CB and I experienced low oil pressure in my 2008 Yukon Denali briefly upon startup (1-2 secs) in Amarillo and then again when moving my vehicle in CB for overnight parking. (Prior to the trip, I had also been experiencing lifter noise upon cold startup (3-5 seconds) - which local GMC dealer in Dallas said was no issue and common to high mileage vehicles). Oil pressure was fine when driving on the way to CB and before, but never reacted to RPM, just always stayed around 30-35. After doing research and trying to decide which auto shop to use in CB/Gunnison, I went with CB Auto Repair. I had a great conversation with John, but still lacked confidence that they were going to figure it out (no offense John!). Well, I couldn't have been more wrong about his shop. They diagnosed the issue within a few hours to a failing o-ring on the oil pickup tube. Strangely enough, the process was to overfill the crankcase then lift the rear end of the vehicle 3 feet in the air which forces the extra oil in the pan to submerge the o-ring thereby eliminating the cavitation that was occurring. After spending 6 hours to replace the pickup tube (have to remove front diff and other things!), pressure is now 60# at cold startup and there is NO lifter noise at all - affluent Dallas dealership was wrong! Pressure when hot is now 25-30# at idle and tracks RPMs up to 40-42# during driving. Yukon is running like a champ and a "little garage" in Crested Butte figured it all out!! I found out afterwards that other friends that spend a lot of time in CB have used John before with great success as well. And to top it all off, his labor cost was 2/3 was the Dallas dealership would have charged me as I called them to compare. Thank you CB Auto!! read more

went in today july 5th with a flat tire to be repaired. expressed my urgency due to being a field scientist and needing to get back to sampling. took the tire in at 9 and the service tech looked well hungover ( he was the only shop open) said that it might be done by 4 but to call at 2 and the fee would be $25. no hello, no welcome, no personal skills whatsoever. i called at 2 and was told it would be ready in 20 mins. i went in at 230 to be told that he needed another 30 mins. so at 315 i got my tire back. i asked he he would kindly swap out the repair and the spare back to their appropriate locations and was curtly told no. i asked to borrow a jack and did it my self in his parking lot. thanked him for the jack but received no response and left. most places this is a $10 at the most fix and done in 30 minutes. im sorry i wasted this guys time and mine. now reading further reviews i hope the repair holds when im 2 hours up a dirt road. only thing this place had going for it was that it was the only place open............. read more
