CT really is a good spot to hang out at!!! I came by recently on Halloween during the early afternoon. It wasn't crowded but the regulars were out. The vibe here is always so fun and laid back. The food menu seems to be ever changing but no complaints. I had a chili / cheese dog during my recent visit and it was satisfying. Definitely hit the spot! If you ever need to kick up your feet after a long day and just want a bevy and kick back- this is your place. This is one of my favorite places in Birmingham because of its no frills, neighborhood hangout vibe. The team there can make a mean cocktail and they are kind! It's a kind of place that you'll always make a friend. My favorite is the summer time on the patio. It's colorful and laid back and they have a good amount space for large groups! There's always something going on at the tavern, whether it's bingo or trivia or live music or even on a night when they don't have anything scheduled, they have a bunch of games like darts and pool and shuffleboard. 100/10 would recommend. Oh, and Maria and Rudi's food? I usually get the nachos or burgers, but everything is good! read more

Crestwood Tavern is a friendly neighborhood bar without a cocktail menu but they have a good selection of spirits and mixes so it's pretty easy to conjure up a cocktail. Our bartender was friendly and quite willing to mix something up. I didn't get a photo (sadly) but they have the BEST homemade salsa with tortilla chips. It was so good I had to restrain myself from pouring it directly into my mouth from the bowl. The atmosphere is not fancy but very cozy and dog friendly. read more

This place is a true dive bar. If you're looking for a place just to have drinks and maybe grab some bar food then this is your place. Nothing fancy about this place which is just fine for me. The bartenders are nice and are accommodating to my dog who I have brought on several occasions to sit outside. Also, they have occasional live music. Definitely a local dive neighborhood bar this place is cool with no major frills. Has all of the basic things you would need as far as standard drinks. Most of the common spirits and beers are available with a few of the local breweries represented as well. They also have a food menu with typical bar fare wings, burgers, quesadillas etc.. fairly priced and pretty good. The quesadilla was really tasty. Very pet friendly as well the owner often has his pup off leash greeting patrons as they come in. And I believe on Tuesday they have a dog happy hour so there are several pups. Ideal place to come if you are out and want to grab a quick drink or in the mood for some late night food and don't want fast food as they have extended kitchen hours. read more

The reason I give Crestwood Tavern four stars is because it doesn't try to be anything it isn't. It is a dive bar through and through. And not even one of those dive bars that trieds to be trendy and hip. They are who they are... and they love it. A place like this is not where you are going to ask for a craft cocktail. It might not be kosher to ask for much of anything outside of the "well drink" variety. But the bartenders are attentive and friendly. They have a somewhat small selection of national beer brands. But with some local beers available, you still get that hometown feel. There are plenty of comfy seating options and things to play while you get a drink. You are not going to wow anyone with this place. But if you are looking for a neighborhood spot to grab a mediocre drink with a no frill atmosphere, this is your place. read more

As others have said, Crestwood Tavern is a friendly, neighborhood bar. Nothing fancy, but it's a good place to hang out and catch up with friends. I personally wouldn't consider it a dive bar...to me it's just a cozy place to hang out. I wouldn't think twice about wearing jeans and a t-shirt here on a Friday night, which is always a plus in my book. They usually have good music playing (and also karaoke on certain nights...maybe not so pleasing to the ears...). Bartenders are friendly and the drinks are always cold. The Crestwood Tavern is the kind of place I would enjoy being a regular. A few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon, my husband and I were walking around Crestwood Park and the surrounding neighborhoods, and we decided to stop in for a beer at The Crestwood Tavern before heading home. We were in workout gear, so we knew it wasn't any place fancy, but that was exactly what we wanted. The bar area is very cool looking. They had a good selection of local beers. We ordered a Good People Pale Ale and a Fat Tire. We were pleasantly surprised to find couches and games around the corner from the bar. It was still early, maybe 5, so there were only a few others who came in while we were there. We hung out on the couches while we drank our beers, and we didn't feel rushed or bothered by anyone. Everyone was friendly enough, and it was just a chill place to relax. The patio out front looks awesome, and will be great for when the temps warm up. read more

Crestwood Tavern (CT) which once in the 60's was Foster's Root Beer chain. Anyone complaining about the place has set their expectations unrealistically amiss. It is what it is and you make it what you want. The diversity of characters is amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect and had no expectations. I had the "fortune" of being able to experience a legend at CT this past New Years Eve: Colonel Bruce Hampton (Ret). Blake, the owner, opened his heart to allow him to play knowing he wouldn't be able to come close to covering the expense. It was the last time we saw him alive. He died on stage doing an encore at the Fox Theater in Atlanta celebrating his 70th Birthday a couple of months later. I live on Cape Cod but visit B'ham occasionally. I finally heard about Crestwood Tavern due to music venues. I've also been able to play a few open mics while I have been here and the local talent is amazing. CT is not a pretentious, snobby, clicky, extravagant chain. It is a dive bar with local flair and color. Bring your friends and make it your own. It's better than having to clean your own place after a party. I played a 2 1/2 hour set there on my current visit and was expecting to leave when finished. I ended up in several conversations with regulars ranging from humor, philosophy, meditation, exercise, metaphysics, travel, and music. I ended up leaving about 1:15 am, sleep deprived but content. It's rough around the edges and flawed like me and most of my friends but it has character. I will be back even though I am a beer snob and love draft beer. I admire Blake for his attentiveness to these reviews and his love for music! Supporting live music rules. Small little bar, walked in and was greeted by a guy at the bar. He was really nice, we placed our order and talked among ourselves. Everything was going fine until the cook comes out makes a joke with another employee and then told my friend and I "Oh I already pulled out the wings when I seen y'all walked through the door!" (Just because I'm black doesn't mean I want chicken wings) We wanted to get up and leave at that moment, but we didn't. We left the bar and went to the tables outside. Last night I decided to have a few drinks and watch the finals with my wife and friend so we went to the Tavern since we live in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was not bad except the fact that everyone who had ordered food was extremely upset for the wait. I ordered wings and fries at the beginning of the 2nd half and did not recieve my food until the game was over and the news was on. I ask the waitress about the wait and she insured it was because they were slammed but as I looked around there were maybe 15-20 people there and not even half of them had food orders. And on top of that they ran out of the beer the i enjoy by the 2nd round. Long story short I believe they had to grow the potatoes and breed the chickens before preparing a meal that takes 15-20 mins anywhere else that is so called busy.
