It's right off the highway, so easy to find but also not very private or quiet, since you're completely exposed to the road and can hear the cars passing. The owners run a gas station/convenience store across the street, which is where you go to check-in and pay. They also live on the property. The beach area was nice, even though it was too cold to swim, we did hang out here for some time. They had a big playground, so it's kid-friendly. They also had horseshoes and lots of non-motorized watercrafts for guests to enjoy free of charge, which was nice. We went canoeing, something my German friends really revelled in. We stayed in Cabin 5, which I later discovered was older and smaller than some of the other cabins. It has that cabiny-feel from the pine walls and ceiling, but the bedrooms were barely big enough for the double beds in them and it was just cramped with 4 adults in there. The doors to the bedroom and washroom were thin too so you can hear everyone's business. At the time I thought this was par for the course but upon reviewing their website later I realized they had some bigger, newer cabins in the same price range. There were only one or two other parties staying there while we were there so I'm not sure what the logic was in putting us in the cabin with the smaller rooms. Maybe less cleaning? I especially would have appreciated it the bedrooms didn't have graffiti carved into the walls. Made me feel like I was back at overnight camp as a kid. In front of each cabin is a little campfire area which is nice but again, it's not at all private. You're sitting next to the private road that leads to the cottages. Good view of the lake though. On our first night there, the owner had a huge bonfire out near the beach and another couple visiting from the US came and sat with us by the fire. It was nice to look at the stars and listen to the loons, but of course you can do this at any cottage on a lake in this part of Canada. Overall 2.5 stars, rounded up because I'm nice and this is their first review. I had a good time, but likely because I love seeing my friends and it was off-season, so the resort was quiet. The accommodations were too small and the cabins too close together with no trees between them for me to enjoy returning during the busier summer season.

Upon our arrival, we are given a tour of the beautiful house, with its own library, guest living space with a small kitchen fully stocked with teas, and the dining area for breakfast. The house is beautifully decorated and makes the perfect set for taking pictures for our special occasion. We got the Whispering Pines Room which is the largest with a balcony and fireplace. Inside the room: - A mini fridge with milk and cream - A Keurig with complementary coffees, teas and specialty hot chocolates - A Dyson fan & thermostat controlled fireplace - An Apple router (super fast internet) - A TV loaded with Netflix for your chills ;) So first impressions are damn impressive, but it doesn't end there! The washroom is loaded with an extensive array of toiletries that you won't even find free in many luxury hotels, like nail polish remover, deodorant, brand new sleeping eye mask and more! The shower has both a regular handheld shower head and a rainfall one, with temperatures on an individual dial with numbers you can adjust (no hot lava vs icy cold settings here!). You also get your own spa bathrobes, I mean WOW. Breakfast is also a gourmet experience I would have happily paid more than $20 a person for. Darlene is very passionate about cooking and sources the best ingredients for her guests. On both days, we woke up to a 3 course breakfast. For my 2 days I got: 1. Fruit parfait; pear and nut muffins; sausage, scrambled eggs and french toast with an apple chutney 2. Citrus and yogurt plate with pistachios; cranberry scones; mixed herb eggs benny on potato cakes with bacon Everything had a unique spin and you can just tell the love that went into the food. You just feel so spoiled with your own personalized pot of tea or coffee, homemade butters and jams. She also checks with your allergies, dietary restrictions and preferences when you book and after you check in. Also, we didn't have snow tires so we had a lot of trouble going up their sloped driveway but Bob was nice enough to park for us. I would very very strongly recommend them to anyone for a special occasion and can't wait to go back!

While the layout of the room was peculiar (I'm always confused when the bathroom sink is in a different area than the bathroom but in this case it also serves as the kitchen sink so guess that makes more sense than having a coffee maker in the bathroom...) it is quite spacious and painted in a light colour scheme to aid in the sense of space. Some minor housekeeping elements missing (no coffee cups, water and only one chair for sitting inside, no place for snowy boots and stuff to dry out) I imagine these small things will get improved upon over time. Snow management outside the rooms Could also use some TLC but appears there had been carpet once on the landing so likely need that fully removed to be able to shovel properly. The price was appropriate and the location perfect for a walk downtown or ventures to the natural attractions upraise of town.

The amenities are old but function well, our room had a satellite tv and wifi, though the latter was really bad. You have to switch between the wifi points to get at least some slow internet. Anyway, if you are here to rest, it is even a benefit :) Turn off the phone, all electronic devices and move to the wilderness, to Arrowhead park. So, there is nothing special about the room, I liked the heater though. I can hear the room in no time! A bonus was to find a microwave as well which is nice if you have snacks to be heated.

I have tried multiple times to contact him by phone and email to resolve the issue but he completely ignores me. The one time I called him from a different number, surprise, he answered! During that conversation he assured me that my refund would be issued in 5 days, I am still waiting for my $140. What is truly disappointing is that the lodge has 100 + year history, and now it has been taken over by someone who clearly doesn't respect that legacy. The place is sub par at best. It​ is smelly, dirty, looks nothing the pictures shown online and the staff are never to be found. I would strongly advise staying there!!

They did assist me on getting my mother up the stairs but I never would have stayed here if I knew there were so many stairs. The overall look of the Inn is rough and dated. Tried to buy some bottled water from the bar and was told they didn't have water. No soap in the soap dispenser in the bath. Good luck finding a plug for your phone charge. Had to unplug the tv to use charger. Only one side lamp I am guessing because of the lack of plugs. No toilet paper. Asked 30 minutes ago and I don't think I am going to see any and I am too exhausted to go ask again. There are no phones in the room I did not check in until later but got a call asking if I still plan to check in. Then was told I needed to do it before 9pm which I thought was completely ludicrous. We are only staying one night thank god. For price I was expecting a nice place.
