The staff cheered on the young, tentative climber while also showing our "bell-ringer" how to reach all the bells at the end of the climbs. This facility was very safe. Again, the owners seemed to be concerned not just with providing a fun activity but doing it in a quality way. The trip was planned via email and they were really flexible with us rescheduling due to a rainy forecast. It did end up raining the day of our trip, but our instructor (Dave Wolff) was great and brought us to a place with overhanging rock so we could climb in dryer conditions. He was really great at explaining different techniques, how all the gear works and was very encouraging. We spent more time climbing than I had expected which was great! It was definitely worth the trip and I can't wait to get back out there.

We chose the "extreme fun" pass for everyone and were told that the infant would be the same price ($24.99) for everyone. What? She can't even walk. That's crazy. But okay fine, a policy is a policy, she can watch. So our total for 6 people was $150 + socks ($3 each) + tax but wait! There's a 5.5% fee for using a credit card so another $8+. The website casually mentions a "discounted cash price" but a 5% upcharge is absurd. In 2026 who carries around that kind of cash? When we asked about this up charge, the attendant grew very defensive and began trying to explain that the credit card company requires the charge and that it's not a fee they can eat as a business expense because they have to pay for Virginia gaming taxes or something. Look, I get it, I work in customer service too and don't always agree with my employer's policies (but still have to support them) but this man was acting like the fee would come directly out of his paycheck and being quite aggressive about it. We aren't stupid and know that businesses have out of pocket costs but pretending like they need to be passed on to the consumer at an exact 1:1 ratio is silly, ESPECIALLY when you're charging $3 for a $0.10 pair of socks. Anyways, we paid and kept it moving. The kids liked jumping and then the older girls liked the climbing walls. It wasn't very crowded and most of the bigger kids/teens were corralled in one of the dodgeball courts. I assume this is where all of the employees were too because there was absolutely no one available anywhere else on the floor. Not a huge deal because we had plenty of adults and our younger kids were safe to play on the other surfaces. They really liked the small playground (although it really should be more like 8 and under, 12 is pretty big for an area obviously for younger kids). The foam pits in the jousting area and ladder section were disappointing because the foam is old and crusty off and pretty gross but the trampoline parts were fairly clean. There is a section with "ninja" kind of activities that seemed to be an afterthought and had a lot of unfinished wood and a dangerous open area to the bottom of the trampoline springs that we stayed clear of but could be a big issue for older kids. When we were all getting tired of jumping and wanted to do the arcade and bumper cars is when things started going downhill again. We asked the person at the front for help with the bumper cars and he said someone on the floor could help but there was no one to be found. One employee at the front desk, one at the snack bar, and not a soul on the floor, no one at the climbing wall, and not a soul in the arcade/big slide area. They finally managed to find someone but were visibly annoyed so it was an uncomfortable situation. After we were done doing arcade games we went to the prize area to cash in our points for trinkets. The kids mostly played games that didn't get many points so I knew we wouldn't have a lot but we had 3 cards and wanted to combine the points to get a couple very small items. There were other families there with a gazillion points though and the man working there seemed super overwhelmed by the process and focused on their high ticket items, which is understandable. He told us the individual amounts but then when he was combining them the amount was somehow less than they were alone? He kept adding them but as other people came up he'd start doing things with them and mixing up everyone's cards. It was super confusing for everyone, especially our 2 kids who kept picking out treats and then being told actually no wrong amount. He finally came up with a number that was in the same ballpark as the initial individual cards and we got a couple bouncy balls. Overall, this was quite a day. The jumping part was fine but the customer service overall needs some serious help. They are obviously significantly understaffed which is annoying at best but potentially very dangerous with no one on the floor. The credit card situation is annoying too and should be more clear on the website, but truly the ability to take cards is a business convenience and expense that I expect a business to absorb.

First, it had to support a vegan diet (which I wound up upgrading to vegetarian after I made the reservations -- go figure) and second, it needed to be within driving distance. A third, albeit minor, desire was that it not be a 'factory' spa, where clients are pushed through the treatments like autos on an assembly line. My search was primarily on google maps, since that gave me the ability to see the distance and click directly on the links to see what the property was like. I quickly zeroed in on Eupepsia as a viable candidate. The website is gorgeous, the amenities appealing. So I made the reservation, thinking "it's only for 4 nights -- even if it's not quite what I'm looking for, I'll be fine." About 2 seconds after I pushed the "reserve" button, I got a call! From Eupepsia! Wanting to know what I was looking for and to make sure that it was a good fit. Wow. That has never happened before. And the woman I was talking to sounded so very, very nice. I was to discover that she is, indeed, very very nice. In fact, everyone at Eupepsia is very, very nice. They are gentle people who work hard to make your stay refreshing, healing, and delightful. The Eupepsia property includes a working farm, with A2A2 cows, greenhouses, a milpita, a creamery where the best cheese is made, a chocolate factory for small batch amazing chocolate, a bakery, and many other authentic elements that makes the promise of Farm to Table completely real. Well, I must add: somethings cannot easily be grown in Virginia, so those things are brought in but only from the best suppliers. For example, the wheat for their bread is imported from France. The dining is family style, which adds to the charm. More food than you could possibly eat is served at each meal, and if you happen to arrive late, a fresh serving of the hot dishes is brought to you. The chef is amazing. He really understands food and every meal is cooked that day, from scratch. For special occassions, he has been known to make a cake. While I was there, a vegan guest with a ton of food allergies had a birthday -- he made a cake that was possibly the best I have ever eaten that met all of the requirements of that guest. It is a small resort -- only 20 or so people at a time are guests. You are known, your needs are known, and you are catered to. It is not crowded and you can mingle, or not, as you like. The rooms are expansive and elegant in their simplicity. The sports facilities are awesome. The spa facilities are really great -- I particularly liked the water bicycle. If you are into hiking, the surrounding mountains are gorgeous and the air is fresh. The menu of treatments available is extensive, but I would encourage you to talk with the staff and explain any issues you are having, healthwise. I had suffered a series of falls in March that left me with whip lash like symptoms in my lower back that I was simply not able to conquer (and my doctor had no suggestions, except "maybe try a massage"). I explained all this stuff to the staff and they consulted with experts and presented me with a treatment that I did not at all understand. BUT while the treatment was in progress, I felt the pain starting to ebb. By the time the treatment was over, my lower back was fine -- I could stand up easily for the first time in months. Later, I discovered I could roll over in bed without being in agony. The next day, I discovered I could exercise without pain. And days later, I'm still pain free. So. If you are looking for a small, intimate retreat where you will be treated with respect, fed with the best food ever, and given the opportunity to heal or just relax in a gorgeous setting amongst genuinely kind, caring people, give Eupepsia a try. I got more into the pace of things which is smooth and steady and it gave me the time to go beyond just relaxation but to reconnect with myself. There's something special about Eupepsia which I can't even describe in words because its just a beautiful feeling that you get once you arrive and this time I felt its impact even more so, even after I left... The staff are amazing and truly make you feel like part of their family, and considerate to the minutest detail. The food is phenomenal and with such a creative menu - I would never imagine vegetarian food could be so good! There's such a variety of treatments to try, all of which are amazing. But this time I tried the manual lymphatic drainage massage and it was a big highlight for me - probably the best I've ever had (and I've tried a few!). It's amazing because every time I go there's something new to try out. On my last trip I also did an ayurvedic consultation and that was a big eye opener.
