After a disasterous visit with a podiatrist in Arlington, I asked Claude who the best podiatrist was. Dr. Basile. Was able to book an appointment in about 2 weeks. I him about the last podiatrist stating I had bonespurs prior to examination and I just wanted to get a handle on this since the weather was getting nice. I was examined, educated , xrayed, educted further and given the tools to repair my foot (Fitfoot orthotics, PT and if the Fitfoot didn't work a list of places to get high end orthodics.) Dr. Basile is an arrogant guy who is much more interested in being the ultimate authority than actually helping patients. I have been going to see him for a year with a foot problem that hasn't improved and so I have tried other therapies because I want to get better. Talking about those other modalities threatened his ego and he yelled at me for my 1 min appointment before handing me a prescription. That's the worst medical attention I have ever received. You can do better Dr! And so can anyone else looking for compassionate medical attention. read more

My son in law had ankle replacement with Dr. Basile at Crimson Foot and Ankle Specialists. Dr. Basile said he could repair my bunion and hammertoe and have me in sneakers in 2 weeks. After surgery and 2 weeks in an air cast I was wearing sneakers.At 5 weeks I am taping my hammer toe, exercising the great toe and have no restrictions! I may snowshoe tomorrow! the staff are the clinic are great, the company itself is super sketchy and awful. referred me to unnecessary procedures at high cost to me after mri, required a follow up appt that took 1 minute of saying "you don't need surgery right now", and nothing else. billed me for "comprehensive exam - moderate difficulty" -- which is weird since the doctor barely entered the room. i also received multiple bills from the hospital and the mri company (including doctors who did the actual diagnosis) so basically they are gaming the system as best they can to waste my time and money as well as circumvent insurance contractual obligations. I have a call set up with the MA dept of insurance this week and plan on fighting this. but regardless i recommending avoiding read more

I had an appt to meet with Dr. Cook last month at their Mt Auburn Hospital office, an appt I had been waiting for for two mos. I arrived and after a long wait, I saw an intern who told me the doctor would be with me shortly but could I consent to let him examine me. For the next 20 min, he goes through a long list of questions and does a physical exam. Then a surgical resident comes in and says Dr. Cook is detained in surgery, and then goes through the exact same questions/exam over the next 20 min, not even looking to or acknowledging the intern still in the room, expending my limited energy. Then I get sent for imaging, which shows my foot is in not great shape. The resident calls me back in, talks to me about the results and recommends surgery. When I start asking questions, he says those are best left to Dr. Cook, who will follow up with me when he returns from vacation next week (I thought he was in surgery?). A whole month goes by and no follow up and I am anxious because I want to know more about this surgery I should have since it will likely interrupt my life a lot for a good 6-8 wks. So, I write to Dr. Cook on MyChart requesting a telehealth appt to discuss my surgery options and what it would entail. A few hours later, a woman (I am guessing a Medical or office asst?) named "Melissa F." writes back and says they don't do telehealth "due to the nature of the practice" (whatever that means) but Dr. Cook can try to give me a quick "courtesy call." (like it's a courtesy to give me time they were supposed to weeks ago). She also tells me the doc was out the day of my appt last month due to COVID (not surgery or vacation, the two excuses I was told that day) but that he is now on vacation and can maybe contact me next week. I write back and clarify that I am disabled and I'd like to have a telehealth appt as a reasonable accommodation under ADA to really go over things as it's a burden for me to get into the office. I explain that since COVID expanded telehealth that should mean they have such options available to offer me. I also politely express some frustration that I went to the other appt and didn't see the doctor but a resident and intern. She writes me back a fairly epic and pretty defensive email (I can't write her one back as long as I am constrained by the MyChart program by word count) about how well-versed she is not just in ADA but all these other laws and policies she starts citing that have absolutely nothing to do with my request, and saying telehealth appts aren't mandatory by federal law and that residents ARE doctors (but he wasn't the doctor I was supposed to see and he himself told me it wasn't his place to talk more about surgical options). She asserts she's meeting my accommodation by putting in for a "courtesy call" (which I am sure people know why that's not the same as an appt). The woman clearly didn't know how ADA works--because her response was not just inaccurate but inappropriate and quite frankly, came across as discriminatory, esp considering their own website states they offer telehealth appts. She stated she can't just offer patients telehealth upon patient request--but I am a disabled patient asking for an accommodation, which is different. Under ADA, medical offices are supposed to be able to work with disabled people to offer them reasonable accommodations they request unless it presents a financial or administrative burden. Telehealth is fairly affordable/mainstream now and this isn't a dinky one-person indie office on a tiny budget but a chain with the backing of a major hospital. It seems the office has offered telehealth in other cases, and may still be doing it as per the info on their website. In addition to pain issues making traveling to and being in a doctor office difficult, I am immuno-compromised so try to minimize time at doc offices when possible as I can't afford to catch COVID. I am not going to risk my health and life to see a doctor who couldn't be bothered following up esp when they won't follow THE LAW in how they treat disabled patients looking to access to equitable care. I filed a complaint with Mount Auburn's patient affairs office as a result of this treatment. read more

This review is less a review of Dr. Basile and more a review of his office. I first saw Dr. Basile in the fall of 2019 for my collapsed arches. He was friendly, seemed knowledgeable, and didn't push me to pursue surgery immediately. I ordered custom orthotics and received them a couple months later. Now, after a year, their office has been a total disappointment. I ordered a second set of orthotics from them over 2 weeks ago and have yet to receive an itemized receipt of my purchase so I can file with my insurance. I have sent them emails, which either don't get a response or get a completely non-sensical response that doesn't answer the question I'm asking. I can barely get in touch with them over the phone because no one answers their phone or their office is closed (I haven't been able to find their official hours listed anywhere). My insurance company from this summer could never reach them. Their staff promise to call back and then don't. I understand that we are in the middle of a pandemic but there's still a baseline level of care patients are entitled to expect. We can all accommodate some dips in service and overlook things that occasionally fall through the cracks during these times but this office's inaccessibility and lack of communication and transparency is abhorrent. Really disappointed and very much exploring alternative providers for any future podiatry needs. read more

I saw Doctor Basile from 2003-2015. In 2003 I had an infection in my foot that he took care of. I have diabetes and every 8 weeks after that for 12 years I saw him. He took very good care of me and I am grateful to him for not losing any toes. I highly recommend him for all your podiatry needs. He is personable, professional,courteous and humble. read more

I am not one to leave 1-star reviews, but after the experiences I've had here, I don't see another option. First off, there is nothing wrong with the doctor I saw. He was great. The problem is that this office staff is just terrible. Never in my life have I encountered so much difficulty and frustration with a doctor's office. First off, the majority of the time I've called to speak with whoever handles billing - no one picked up. Second, THEY DO NOT CALL YOU BACK. I spent well over a month just trying to get someone specific to call me back and it never freaking happened. Not once did I get a call from her despite constantly asking. Second, I have literally received contradictory information from the billing dept. They told me (after over a month of trying to get them to bill my insurance) they finally filed the claim and when I called my insurance - they never filed it!! Even though weeks went by of me asking them to. Again, I don't leave 1-star reviews often. But I have never dealt with such unreliable staff at a doctor's office in my life. I understand people make mistakes or fall behind sometimes. But this just seems like a huge lack of effort. To not call someone back after they ask politely over and over again? To not bill my insurance after constantly assuring me they would? It's like they're not just unreliable, they're dishonest. Would love to keep coming here to see the doctor I saw but after what I've experienced, I have no choice but to look for a new podiatrist. I am done trying to give this place a chance. read more

I fractured my calcaneus (heel) and I went to Crimson Foot and Ankle for care. Dr. Philip Basile was my doctor: he saw me shortly after the fracture, did my surgery and cared for me afterwards. The care I received was wonderful. Dr. Basile is very caring, professional and competent. The surgery went extremely well and my fracture healed perfectly. I've also brought my elderly mother for care at Crimson Foot and Ankle for painful toes and, again, her problems were treated and resolved. Not only are the doctors there great, but the staff are also kind and helpful. I am a physician myself and very much value really good clinical care, clear explanations of the problems and the treatments and a supportive environment. I am so very lucky to have had Dr. Basile perform my foot surgery. It was a very long, rough road how I ended up in his hands. 10 Years ago I was told that after another doctor performed surgery on my foot that my bones were too thin to have been able to fix it. I did not know any better so I suffered for 10 years with my foot the same way. Then I ended up finding a Doctor Wu in Revere Massachusetts. This was the second mistake I had made regarding this issue. The doctor and I had a plan to have my left hip operated on by a hip surgeon of course, prior to getting my foot done. We then waited a year to schedule my foot surgery. We scheduled for March 16, 2018. Then she called me to tell me that she wanted to make sure the insurance was in order(( she already did this but Ok)) so she needed one more week and reschedule the surgery to March 22. The surgery was confirmed by her office and the hospital the night before. I went into the hospital on the schedule time prior to surgery at 7:30 AM the blocked surgery space was for 9:00 AM. At 9:15 AM the hospital called Dr. Wu to find out if she was going to be much longer. She asked to speak to me and proceeded to tell me that she did not realize my surgery was scheduled for that day and was 45 minutes away and the hospital could not accommodate any more time. (( actually there was time at the end of the day but she neglected to tell me that)) I was already prepped for surgery. I was in the Johnny and I had the needles in my arms and I had signed consent forms and been visited by the anesthesiologist. She said she rebooked it for the following Friday but the next day she called me at home and told me that she had bad news that she would not be performing my surgery then or ever. Her reasons were because she was going to China in May which we already knew about because she made sure I knew that months and months prior to the surgery so that I would know she would not possibly be able to see me on the fifth or sixth visit following surgery. Then she also said that most likely I was angry because of her not showing up so that if anything happened that was incorrect during the surgery I might become even more angry. She said she took a close look at my case and said that she asked 5 of her colleagues to see me for the fifth and sixth visit and they declined. She also said a couple of other crazy things and yelled at me that she could not help everybody in the world. My primary got a hold of her and she told them she feared my insurance would not pay and then told thevhisoutal if I paid out of pocket she might consider doing it. REMEMBER THIS WAS ALREADY PREAPPROVED TWICE! Needless to say, I was very upset and bewildered did so I proceeded to seek help from the Melrose Wakefield Hospital Officers. This is how I was led to Dr. Basile. As everything happens for a reason, Dr. Wu would not have been able to perform this difficult surgery and Dr. Basile did with excellency. I really admire this Surgeon and I like him for his professionalism and knowledge and personality. I want to add something to the story and I plan on making the statement in different modes of communication. Doctors need to humble themselves when they feel that they are not equipped to perform procedures on individuals. Both doctors I encountered prior to Dr. Basile Could not have fixed my foot but they could have told me this so that I would not have to suffer and go through all of this unnecessary hardship. Dr. Basile is an awesome Dr and person. You're lucky to have him as an option and by the way he is humble and if he thinks he can't help you he will tell you, not likely though he is brilliant! Dr. Phil Basile is a star. I had bunion procedure, both shaving and pin and screws the week before Christmas. I was up and about in a day or two and within weeks into a sneaker walking pretty nicely. Other than the bit of swelling that happens during the day I am good to go as of today. His office is run very tight, no crazy appointments that go sideways. 11 am pretty much means 11 am. Excellent customer service and care. I arrived 20 minutes early and was called back 10 minutes before my appointment was scheduled. The resident doctor was kind and attentive, and the radiology staff explained the process in detail. After my x-ray, I received a call from the doctor with results within 30 minutes from leaving my appointment. This place is the best. In 2011 I broke my ankle in 2 places and did some ligament damage. I went to the emergency room at Mount Auburn Hospital where they told me I would need surgery, which was performed. I went through months of rehab and then surgery was performed to remove the hardware. That is when my issues began, I started having pain and swelling in my ankle. Finally after not being satisfied I returned to the emergency room and was told I had another fracture. I was very upset, my surgeon did not understand what happened. I decided to find another surgeon and hospital. I went to Newton Wellesley Hospital where I had complete reconstructive surgery. However I ended up with issues. After 4 and a half years and 7 surgeries I went and saw Dr. Philip Basile at Crimson Foot and Ankle (I wish I had met him when I first broke my ankle) after we tried a few things it was determined that I needed ankle replacement surgery. I had the surgery in February of 2017 and after a 6 week recovery my ankle feels the best it has in 5 years. The doctors and staff at Crimson are the best.
