Dr. Marisa Gerth has been providing acupuncture on my older cat for more than a year. When our cat suddenly started limping, we took him to a specialist for x-rays and a diagnosis. Turns out he has a luxating patella in one knee and severe arthritis in the other hip. He was prescribed pain medication, and we were given the suggestion of acupuncture. The communication for this service was intolerable. I was polite and prompt about responding and asking questions specific to what was needed regarding scheduling ONE session. Unfortunately, it was not reciprocated, it was very difficult to reach the Doctor. I called numerous times to schedule a session within a decent time frame to give us enough notice to work with. To end up with no response for several days and the only two text messages received were not helpful. At all. It would be more efficient if the availability is provided instead of having to sit around waiting for a response. read more

Dr. Gerth has been a godsend for my 14 year old dachshund Sniffy. He was diagnosed with heart disease in January 2011, sees a heart specialist and was doing OK but was nowhere near his old self. I decided to try acupuncture due to weakness in his rear legs and his refusal to take walks starting in Oct. 2012. Appointments began every two weeks and now are once a month. Sniffy can move again and is taking walks like he used to. The best part is having her come to my home so Sniffy's not stressed and because of his advancing age, we always have new health issues to discuss and treat when she visits. Dr. Marisa Gerth is wonderful. She's been my vet for my three cats and dog almost since she started her own business. Having a veterinarian that can come to my home when I have multiple pets is very convenient, and you can tell that she loves seeing the animals and that they love seeing her. Whenever she comes over, the cats come right out and greet her. One morning I called her because my dog had stopped putting weight on his one back leg two days earlier. She scheduled to come over after I was done work that same day. I was really beginning to worry that my pup was in a lot of pain so being able to get an appointment that quickly was perfect. It was determined that my dog needed surgery on his knee (we had determined that earlier but he now needed it ASAP) so she recommended a wonderful surgeon and my dog is recovering. She also recommended acupuncture during his recovery, which I've had highly recommended by friends that have had this surgery for their dogs. The best part is that she's certified to perform it herself! So I can continue to aide my dog in his recovery, while continuing to use a veterinarian that I already know and trust. Dr. Gerth is awesome and my dogs love her! Dr. Gerth comes to my home to care for my dogs. My Lab, 13 years old, was always afraid of the vet. Somehow she knew when I was driving her to a vet's office -- the fur flew and it took a lot of work to clean the fur out of the car afterwards (even with blanket coverings). My best friend recommended that I try Dr. Gerth and I am so grateful I did. Brandy (the Lab) is happy when Dr. Gerth walks into our home. No more fur blizzards. She tells me things about what was going on with Brandy and my other dogs from external indicators. She is knowledgeable, professional and she keeps current on medical technology! Dr. Gerth is treating Brandy for arthritis with traditional prescription medicine combined with acupuncture treatments. She is a certified acupuncture doctor. Recently, the mail order prescription for my dog did not arrive as planned. My dog needed her medicine. I appreciated the effort she put into finding the specialty medicine and her attempt to keep the expense to my pocketbook down (while I waited for mail order med). Dr. Gerth has access to surgical facilities when needed. So she can perform dental cleanings and other surgical procedures in a safe medical environment. I recently adopted a new cat (she's adorable but still very easily stressed out) and she and my resident cat were both due for some routine maintenance. I am disabled, so hauling one cat into the vet, let alone two, was a seriously daunting prospect. Dr. Gerth had been recommended by some folks in my neighborhood and I decided that the home visit fee would probably be worth it if she could see both cats in one trip. She did and was really great with the kitties and with me. The new kitty, while not feral, is terribly under socialized and I was concerned that we'd all be traumatized by the end of it. Her her exam and jabs, plus a nail trim, were all handled efficiently and professionally. Before I knew it, we were done and back to our regularly scheduled morning. Ultimately, the cost for vaccinating both cats was significantly less than I expected, hardly more than I would have spent taking them into an office. This was without question the most effiecnt, least stressful vet encounter we've ever had. I can't even imagine going back to our old routine! All around, this was a great experience. My cat was throwing up and had some pretty bad breath as well, and I had kept putting off taking him to the vet, because he is such a terror to take. I found Critterfixer online, and I decided to give it a try. I was afraid that it would be really expensive, since they come to your house and because this is an expensive area in general. I was so pleased with how reasonable the visit was financially but even more pleased with the care that my pet received. Dr. Gerth is amazing. I could tell right away that I had made the right decision. She was eager to give me all kinds of information and recommendations and really took her time. I could tell that she really cared, and it was the best vet experience I have ever had. Never have I met a veterinarian so thorough. I think my cat has a better doctor than I do! My cat ended up needing to have a few teeth extracted, so she gave me options on where to take him for the surgery and was very considerate in letting me know where to take him that wouldn't be so expensive. I opted to have her do the surgery in Fairfax, and it was definitely the right decision. She ended up having to take more teeth than we thought, but she waived some of the fees, and it ended up being very inexpensive and even less expensive than originally estimated. She called me as soon as he was done and told me how it went and what to expect and also gave me his post op instructions. She also called me the next day, which was a Saturday, to see how he was doing and said that if I needed anything to call and she would stop by the house. Someone also called from the Fairfax office to check. Luckily, he was fine and did great, thanks to the care he received. I was pleased that they also sent me before and after pictures of his teeth, so I knew exactly what they did and why they did it. I thought it was also great that they warned me of possible complications that could occur, so I was well informed when deciding what to do. I recently called Critterfixer regarding my Shepherd who has bad legs/ hips and severe skin allergies. Obviously, because of the legs/hips situation it was near impossible to get him in a car and to a vet, so a mobile vet was our only option. After reading previous reviews, we called Dr. Gerth where getting an appointment was easy and timely. She arrived early for the appointment and spent almost two hours with my Shepherd giving him an exam, trimming his nails and performing acupuncture on him. My husband said she explained everything thoroughly and really listened to him as he explained the problems and the frustration with our other vet. And the icing on the cake was the price - very reasonable and far less than we would have been charged by the old vet (heck - they wanted more $ just to do his nails in our home than she charged for the whole visit!). I am so thankful that we found Dr. Gerth, I no longer have to worry about treatment for my big baby! read more
