My experience with this accountant was extremely disappointing and costly. Required filings were not submitted, which resulted in thousands of dollars in penalties and additional fees that I now have to pay to fix the situation with a new accountant. I trusted that everything was being handled properly, only to discover later that it was not. This has been a very expensive mistake to clean up. The staff at DMV Tax Resolution was able to resolve my family member's tax issue by lowering overall liability by reworking the audit to the correct numbers, remove a good portion of the penalties, and set up payment plan that was affordable. Extremely Disappointed. I rarely leave reviews, but I hope this one helps someone avoid the stress I went through. I originally used this firm through Taxfyle years ago and had a great experience, so I returned as a direct client in August 2024. I submitted all documents in September 2024 for my 2021 business and personal returns. Despite repeated follow-ups, my taxes weren't filed until January 2025--after the e-file deadline--so I had to mail them in, which caused even more delays. I was told they were short-staffed and that since I was getting a refund, it "wasn't urgent." None of those issues were mine to manage. I made it clear back in 2024 that if they couldn't handle my case, I would go elsewhere--they assured me they could. I regret believing them. In February 2025, I submitted everything needed for 2022-2024, except for some crypto data I was unsure how to pull. I asked if they wanted to handle it or if I should use a third-party app. In March, after multiple unanswered messages, I called to explain that my son's college financial aid depended on having 2023 taxes filed by May 1. I was promised they'd be filed. I uploaded everything for crypto from a third party as advised. By April 19, still nothing. On April 23, I called and was told Stephen Cromwell was personally taking care of it "that night." That wasn't true. By April 28--still no returns filed. I ended the relationship and hired someone on Taxfyle. Within 1.5 weeks, 2022 and 2023 were filed. 2024 followed right after. This CPA firm's inaction cost me valuable time, caused financial stress, and disrupted my son's college process. If you're waiting on them--don't. I ignored red flags and stayed too loyal. I wouldn't recommend this firm to anyone who expects timely, professional service. read more

My husband and I decided to hire an accountant for our taxes for the first time this year. Our taxes were just complicated enough that we preferred to trust the details to an expert. Uncertain of what to expect and who to choose, we did a lot of internet research and asked friends for recommendations. In spite of the recommendations, we reached out to Steve and his firm because of a mailing we received offering a $50 discount--we love coupons. When I called in mid-January to make a consultation appointment, Steve was out of the office and I scheduled the appointment with the woman who answered the phone. Steve could have seen us that week, but we pushed it off a week to better fit our schedule. I loved that he was able to fit us in so quickly. That evening, Steve called me. At first I was worried the woman has made a scheduling conflict or something, but he just wanted to say hello and touch base. Steve said he prefers to chat with all new clients. This *really* won big points in my book for this firm. I felt like he cared about us and our business. This is very important to us. When we went in for the consultation, Steve was friendly, courteous and very knowledgeable. He was able to answer all of our questions with specific details. Since it was mid-January, we did not have all of our tax forms at that time, but he took what we had and we were able to send a password-protected scan of everything as it came in. We only needed to make one visit to the office--which is a huge plus for me. Steve recommended we wait to file until mid-February as a lot of the tax software was still being updated for the tax year changes. It worked out well as our final paperwork arrived to us mid-February. Once we submitted all the paperwork, accountants from the office asked several follow-up questions and requested several other pieces of paperwork. At the time I was frustrated that it wasn't asked for up front, but now, a week later, I don't really care. They did a great job, handled our semi-complicated tax year (wedding, house purchase, home rental loss, large amount of charitable giving) and got us a refund larger than we anticipated. Cromwell and Company is a fantastic full service accounting company. I had Stephen Cromwell (the owner) himself work out my tax issues and was able to get a larger return based on his suggestions. Additionally, he has been very helpful in getting my IRA to make money for me. I can't thank them enough for the excellent customer service and years of knowledge/experience that were applied to my situation.
