The coaches give you lots of individual attention and place really strong emphasis on form - it almost feels like having unlimited access to a bunch of really great, well-credentialed, and patient personal trainers. I never thought I'd willingly get up at 5am several times a week, but here I am, absolutely jazzed to get 6am ass-kickings several times a week.

Like many I was a little intimidated by CrossFit Bc of the reputable intensity but this box makes it easy learn and challenge yourself while going at your own pace. The owner, Robie even accommodated my schedule and flexed with Foundations classes bc it was hard for me to make the schedules ones. Crossfitters here are diverse - all ages, sizes, fitness levels. This can be a great home base gym. Also reeeeally helps to motivate and get you in the fitness / health mind set. I am a serial fitness class taker so this is definitely up there in terms of experiences for me. Even just a few classes can already see my body change - which I cannot say is the case for all fitness regimens that I have tried.

The trainers at this gym are very observant, mindful and supportive. Members use apps to report our quality of sleep, mood, and soreness levels each day we train, so that the programs can be tailored to our capacity and motivation for that day. I appreciate that there are no mirrors and no music - just the sound of people working hard and getting stronger with occasional feedback from a trainer to ensure correct form. In just six weeks I have already noticed myself getting stronger and tackling more goals in my life outside fitness. Lifting weights is more meditative than I imagined; at SBWC it is practiced almost like a form of martial arts.

I didn't want to pay for personal training sessions at my local Cr*nch, but rather I wanted to go straight to the real deal, a gym dedicated to lifting with specialized knowledge. I think I googled "Brooklyn intro to powerlifting" or something like that, and up popped SBWC. I read some reviews, checked out their website and thought OK, it's kind of scary to do this on my own, but I have to try. My class was relatively large (5-6 people at least), but I felt that Becca and Paulie (owners and coaches) were able to give us truly individualized attention. During class, you learn the proper form step by step and then get to practice. In addition to the baseline lifts, you learn accessory lifts, the best nutrition for getting and staying strong, and the culture/vibe of the gym. The intro class includes unlimited access to the gym, and they suggest you stick with the training sessions at first so that a staff coach is available to guide you. Both Becca and Paulie are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. They make everyone feel welcome, from the hugest, most swole dude in there to the smallest newbie (that would be me). From seasoned lifters looking for some expert guidance in a great environment, or a brand new lifter with no idea where to begin, SBWC accommodates everyone on the spectrum of experience.

This makes it so easy to join and finish a workout. The workout average 40 minutes, 4 stations, with 3 sets. There's even a little warm up section, too. Monday and Thursday are lower body strength, Tuesday and Friday are upper body strength, Wednesday is conditioning, and Saturday/Sunday are hybrid/full body. Emilio is a great coach and is always there to correct your form.

Arrived 10 minutes early like the…read moreinstructions suggested and had time to sign the waiver and use the restroom (note it's located on the second floor in another part of the gym). Gym was clean, neat and organized and there were two people working out independently in the zone. Met Coach Will that bc of his professionalism and knowledge (and maybe his dimples) made me join the gym. I truly hope the owners and staff have resolved some of the issues that I read from the previous post bc if I sense any shenanigans I'm out! Until then let's build these baby delts!

I tried this gym out for 1 day with my bf after seeing a Groupon online for $60/one month unlimited. It's been a while since I've actively done Xfit and I thought it would be a great idea for my bf to try it as well even for just a month. I reached out to Coach Lloyd on 7/29 offering to pay directly at the gym (I try to do this to help business owners out because I know Groupon tends to take a big cut). Coach Lloyd responded that he prefers me to pay at the gym. I was completely fine with that. We show up on 7/30 as the class was starting and we were already warming up so we signed a few waivers and just started working out. We had a fun class, people were nice, and the WOD was whatever to be honest (not sure if it was programmed that way for Friday) - simple movements, no real rep cadence. Coach Lloyd was nice then and friendly and tried to help my bf with his toes to bar. I did note that they had no public chalk, which I thought was interesting because the bars were pretty slippery and could be a safety hazard. We leave and come back on Monday of the following week for another class. I only realized when I returned to the gym that we did not pay Friday because I didn't see a charge on my card. I assumed that Coach Lloyd had charged my BF because he had gotten to the 7/30 class earlier than I did. So I approached Coach Lloyd and asked to pay. He then proceeded to try and charge us the full price under the guise that since we did not pay last Friday. I was very confused since he didn't charge us Friday and let us work out without even a reminder to pay even though we had clear email communication. He then responded that "you forgot to pay and that groupon was for July, it's now august". (Wrong by the way, because the Groupon was still LIVE at that time...) I genuinely thought he was joking at this point since we have an email FROM HIM dated 7/29 confirming the price to be paid, and we showed up at 7/30 (before the groupon was over) and Coach Lloyd never once asked us to pay on 7/30. (Would you let people shop in your store and leave without paying? Is it more the buyer or the seller's responsibility here?) But he was serious about charging us the full price. (There's a huge difference between $60 and almost $200 for full price membership) Coach Lloyd, then begrudgingly (you can tell he was not happy about it) offered the groupon deal after we shared the facts. I then tried to add my card on zen planner over the weekend and it kept rejecting it so I ended up emailing Coach Lloyd again and he said due to new mask mandates that they can't accept new members anymore..... (does that even make sense? We had an agreement on the price and membership and all of a sudden, you can't join anymore). I bet if we were paying full price, they would have no problem with that. My friend Amber reached out to Coach Lloyd on Sunday and of course, Lloyd responded happily to have her join....(she showed me the email).... Lol, if you're going to straight up lie and use the pandemic as a guise for not accepting new members ... what horrible business practice here....cmon dude. He never responded to my email about having card issues. It just became very clear that he did not want us to join the gym. I'm pretty disappointed because I really wanted to give Xfit a shot again but this is not the place, not to mention, the train walk there is pretty scary from Atlantic Ave, even in broad daylight. I know it's tough to be a gym owner but this is not how you build loyalty, especially straight up lying to people. Please do not put a Groupon online if you don't want people to get that price... just feels pointless to do that and I would rather not be treated that way. I was pretty disappointed after this experience. I hope the gym owner takes this feedback to heart. (Everything I said above can be proven with emails and documentation so if you want to reach out to me, I can provide proof of everything.)

No pressure, no judge, good vibes only! Coach is always in control of your technique and ready to answer all your questions. I was surprised how hard I can work in the group when everybody doesn't give up This energy is endless motivation! It's so much fun to do different workouts every time. Got the best form I have ever had after 3 months of regular training. Even feel the health improvement! Grateful for the atmosphere It means a lot, really Such a cool community! Also, convenient to book your spot in the app, usually street parking is easy to find. All Equipment sanitized before and after the workout Thank you guys for all the fun and support. The space: Its cozy, simple, clean and still smells new…read more It's designed to make you feel like you're the only girl/boy in the world with your dedicated trainer. I'm impressed at how efficient and configurable Nate has made this space. I hardly notice when he's setting up to have me work on the next thing. That said the equipment is basic enough that you can replicate the routines at any commercial gym. The Trainer: Nate knows his stuff! First of all I blew my lower back out doing burpees in a kickboxing class due to the recommended form. My partner who also trains with him recommended Nate to me. So we met and right away Nate evaluated me and built a 4 day workout plan that I can do on my own. Additionally, he's corrected everything I've done wrong for years and helped me isolate muscles to maximize the effectiveness of the workout. He's also introduced me to amino acids (I know...basic stuff, but not to me) he also taught me a lot of new challenging stuff and makes sure I keep up with my diaphragm exercises to strengthen my back. So far my results have been great (lost 12lbs, increased muscle mass) which is a bit of a mind trip because I'm never tired or in pain! Above all, Nate is very personable and charming! I've seen him flex his communication style to work with people all over the spectrum (a business man at heart). He's also in great shape which is aspirational and I guess what you'd want in a personal trainer. I haul my developing buns of steel 18 blocks to train with Nate, he's been worth every penny, I doubt you'll be disappointed!
