To be clear: I have been coming to this gym for over 5 years. When I first arrive, I was an overweight, short, and weak Asian man in his early 30s in need of a healthier life style. This gym help me lose 20lbs in the first year and another 15 the next year. I gotten a lot stronger, faster, and healthier. I'm very thankful for Coach Jason, Seth, and Emily. What I really enjoy about this gym is the members are very encouraging. They push you to finish your work out, not give up, and continue to participated. This isn't the type of gym that's competitive but the one to push better health. I never heard of crossfit when I first walked in the gym Here's what stayed the same: It's still a bit pricey at $197 at a full membership. There is a slight discount for students and first responders. There are drop-in packages if you don't want to commit for a full month. I honestly did just crossfit and it was very effective. There is also a weightlifting class that just restarted. Please contact the gym if you haven't done crossfit before because there is a trial class. Here is what have changed: The gym added rowing and Brazilian JiuJitsu class for the evenings ( I think 6:30 and 7:30 respectively and on certain nights). Brazilian JiuJitsu is really fun. If you are looking for a new gym or just wanted to work out, I highly recommend this gym. I am a person that usually don't know what I am doing but all the coaches really help here. read more

If you're a parent juggling between family and work life, like me, don't forget to invest in yourself too. I went from couch to CrossFit Arsenal about two weeks ago and already know it's the best decision I've made in a while. The coaches demonstrate movements at the beginning of class then proactively provide guidance during the workout of the day. The members are down-to-earth, kind people. I am excited about losing weight, taking time for myself, building the strength/energy to keep up with my boys, and reclaiming long term health here. This is a long due review for CrossFit Arsenal. I believe that this is one of the best life decisions I've made to invest in myself and CF Arsenal is the perfect place for that. The coaches are excellent, and the community is inclusive, welcoming and very aware of your fitness needs and abilities. When I started here, I was more of a dilettante in CrossFit(with limited prior experience in it), and was dipping my feet into the water. The coaches made me feel very comfortable and eased me into everything, and now, I look forward to coming here every time. The annual CrossFit party (and all parties) is also a blast! He made sure I was included in the classes and teach me the different techniques for each work out . It made easy my decision to sign up. Very long overdue but I wish I could give this fitness facility a 5 star plus. I walked into this gym a few years ago and was very nervous as I don't consider myself as a very athletic person (nor young). Jason and his team were (and continue) to be extremely welcoming and encouraging at each visit. Easily one of the best things I have done for myself physically and mentally. I was fortunate enough to be able to work out at CrossFit Arsenal from September '17 to June '18. Some things that I love about the place are: The Coaches: -The owner, Jason Gee, is a terrific guy. He has the heart of a lion and knows how to inspire. His programing is always fresh and innovative. He's very creative and he's always bringing something new, whether it be variations to warm-ups, recovery methods, or contests/social activities at the gym. He's got a great sense of humor, too, and manages to impart a lot of knowledge about fitness while keeping you entertained. -The other coaches are phenomenal as well: Jamie is a maestro with incredible skills and depth of knowledge. Seth and Adam are phenomenal athletes and great motivators. Christine is tremendously positive, kind, and encouraging. I also found Julie's weightlifting/Olympic class on Saturdays highly beneficial. The "All Fitness, All the Time" mentality: - CFA lets nothing stand in the way of the daily pursuit of gains. CFA stays open through every blizzard, nor'easter, etc. In the middle of one blizzard, I trudged my way to a noon class and was the only client there. I did part of the warm-up on the ski erg in front of a window with heavy snow falling outside! Jamie led me through the rest of the warm-up and WOD the same as if he were leading a full class. I was impressed with that. Now CFA faces a bigger challenge, to respond to the damage from the recent fire, but I have no doubt that they will respond with gusto and that the fitness will go on. Community: -The size of the box is cozy and there's a great energy. Class sizes are small. -Great atmosphere for events like Murph and the Open. -Smart, motivated people who support you and help you to get better. In short, of the boxes I have utilized in Florida, Pennsylvania, Peru, this one is very special, and I don't know if I'll find another that can match it. read more

I have been to a number of CrossFit gym around the country and world, and this gym is one of the better ones I have attended. The community is very welcoming and I enjoy the extra activities outside of CrossFit. I would also like to point out the classes they offer outside of CrossFit. The rowing and Jujitsu allows athletes to become well rounded in other aspects besides CrossFit. Looking forward to progressing as an athlete in this gym. read more

An amazing place where I began my Crossfit journey! Jason and the staff are always attentive and helpful. The programming is excellent and never boring. I cannot say enough about the wonderful, supportive community that embraced and pushed me to new challenges!! I moved to Boston on a work assignment and figured I'd give this Crossfit thing a try. Best idea I had! Jason and CFA were immediately welcoming and helped on-board this newbie into the world of barbells, burpees and double-unders. I'll miss CFA, but will continue with Crossfit as I return to DC. Having trained at several boxes in my crossfit career (Ute Crossfit, Crossfit Iron City, R.A.W. Training), I can honestly say that Crossfit Arsenal is my FAVORITE. Jason is an AMAZING coach and programmer. Even training at games competitor gyms (Ute, RAW), I have made more progress, PRed more and become a better athlete under Jason's programing and coaching. He's has created an amazing community and keeps everyone level headed about our "fitness". The athletes and other coaches are amazing. You'll not find a better place to train in the Brighton area. I've been using CFA as my new "drop-in" gym whenever I'm back on the east coast visiting family. I was a member of a previous gym that the owner of CFA used to coach at so I have had experience with his teaching style for awhile. Pros: 1. Attentive trainers with smart coaching. 2. convenient location if you work over in the Allston/Brighton/Watertown area, with both on and off-street parking. 3. a welcoming community 4. excellent programming with a little more strength based/ Olympic lifting based workouts. Unfortunately I was spoiled by here and my previous box in Boston when it came to great programming and I've been looking ever since for a similar experience out on the west coast. Cons: The only reason I'm taking a star away, it's on the wrong coast for me to go more often! Bottom line: If you're looking to dip your feet into crossfit, or you're well versed in crossfittin' this place is great. read more

My favorite box! Like Beth, I was at an all-women's box which closed. Jason welcomed all of the members of my old gym, with a two week trial and letting me drop in anytime. Reasons this place is great: - amazing coaching - attentive, supportive, and using Wodify to help us keep track of our progress, always lots of scaling options for all abilities - great space - plenty of equipment, and next door to a track! Even coming from a background in collegiate and local rugby, I was intimidated to begin Crossfit. But immediately, I was floored by the warmth of Crossfit Arsenal. All the coaches are so friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. Suddenly, I was going to crossfit workouts 5-6 times a week, all due to the community that the gym offers and the fun, well-rounded programming. Jason (the gym's owner) has teased me for bringing so many of my other friends (and family members, including my 60-yr-old mom) to the gym for a workout because I want to show off the community I've been so lucky to find here. This isn't a gym filled with egotistical meatheads, just friendly people who enjoy challenging themselves physically and want to have fun doing so. As a prime example of the straight-up good people who work here: after I fractured my ankle last spring, Seth, one of the coaches, programmed an adapted version of every single workout daily for me, so that I could continue working out while I recovered. For starters, I would consider myself an athletic person, but maybe a semi-dormant athlete. In adulthood, I've never really found a type of workout that I loved; you know, that type that makes you WANT to go exercise. I never gained much from the conventional gyms, plus everyone goes in with blinders on, therefore, there's absolutely no sense of community. Then I heard about this Crossfit thing. I was completely intimidated by the intensity and all of the heavy weight-lifting. But I LOVED the idea of being a part of a community and being motivated and "pushed" to get through these intense "WODs." I had gone to other Crossfit gyms for the "first time" many times only to not go back for months...then I'd decide I would try it again, only to not go back for months...vicious cycle. I believe it was a little bit mindset, but also the comfort of the gym and coach. I would also have an incredibly tough time getting to sleep the nights after those "first" intense WODs. It was as if my blood and adrenaline were just pumping through my body and I could feel it so intensely that I could not relax. I know for a fact that it was not a mental thing. My whole body was so restless, and there's nothing worse than laying in bed for 4 or 5 hours waiting to fall asleep. So this vicious cycle became another intimidating factor for my Crossfit trials. I finally discussed this with Coach Jason at Crossfit Arsenal. He gave me some remedies to try at home for those post-workout sleepless nights: rolling-out, stretching, hot bath/shower and aspirin. Well, it worked! I finally found my groove! I started going to his noon classes because they were less attended than the morning or evening classes. I just wanted to have more one-on-one time with Coach Jason while learning all of the proper techniques. I found myself WANTING to go to the gym. I started pushing myself more. I started feeling great! It was such an amazing feeling! Then after about a month and a half of going in fairly regularly, my husband and I found out we were pregnant! That didn't stop me at all for the first few weeks of us knowing we were pregnant. But then I started having minor complications and had to take some time away from the gym unfortunately...doctor's orders. I plan on going to the gym as much as I can during the remainder of my pregnancy as I feel up to it. One of the most amazing and comforting things about Coach Jason is his knowledge of the human anatomy and kinetics! Not only does this obviously apply to the general Crossfit movements, but I've been amazed at his understanding of my pregnancy. He knows how, when and, more importantly, WHY to modify movements. I feel completely safe and taken care of under Coach Jason's tutelage! Crossfit Arsenal and all of its coaches are very highly recommended! read more

CrossFit Arsenal is awesome! As a complete CrossFit novice, Jason and his team of trainers have helped me get acquainted with the CrossFit basics since I started a few months ago. They know how to scale the workouts for demanding or difficult movements so I never feel like I am going to injure myself, but also know when to push me to do more. Jason is a great coach! I'm a beginner-intermediate Crossfitter and have a tradition of doing a drop in class at a local box wherever I am traveling. I found CrossFit Arsenal on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I'm very happy I did! The wod was a hero wod....the day after the last open workout (scaling allowed, of course). Coach Jason did a great job of going over the movements during the warmup and giving personal advice when/where needed. That's something I appreciate in a crossfit coach. Not all coaches/boxes take the time to help you with your technique. That said, great wod and I will drop in when I am in Boston again! Jason and Jamie are excellent Crossfit coaches. They will get you in shape and challenge you consistently. Just don't have any "feelings"... well it's a joke, but they make you work-out to your ability. Jason and Jamie, when they're not there seem to be traveling around the world in their spare time to make themselves better Crossfit athletes and coaches. There is a high level of training and expertise amongst all the coaches. But you yourself don't have to be at their level, they work with where you're at. So don't feel too intimidated. For experienced athletes or Crossfit rookies (like myself when I joined) - I can't recommend Arsenal highly enough! For this quick review - three things stand out (and I'll speak more from the point of view of someone joining without much Crossfit experience): - Fitness gains. Crossfit is intense, a great full-body workout that builds strength, mobility/flexibility, and stamina. Jason's programming is varied and always scalable to "your level". If you come regularly, you *will* experience results. - Attentive coaches. To anyone not so experienced with Crossfit - if you have nerves about the program, Arsenal's coaches will help you conquer them. Classes are on the smaller side, and coaches all take an extra minute to a) get to know your strengths and weaknesses; and b) offer constructive advice on complicated moves and/or areas for improvement. I had a lot to learn when I joined, but the coaches went above and beyond in teaching me proper and safe technique, carefully monitoring my progress, and helping me work through any bad habits. This is a great place to see what Crossfit is about, and whether it is the right program for you. Think of Arsenal as a classroom as much as a gym. And experienced athletes - Jason and the coaches' competence will help push you to the next level. If you do have your technique down, they will find new ways to push your limits and build your fitness. There are some very strong athletes here. - Great community. The Arsenal crew is incredibly friendly and supportive - which goes a long way towards providing motivation and encouragement to improve, and making time in the gym fun. Jason does a great job getting to know everyone, welcoming them into the fold, and pushing them to improve every single day. After a WoD, people will often hang around the gym to joke around or chat - great way to unwind after the workout. I myself recently moved out of Boston, but seeing new Crossfit gyms in New York has helped me appreciate all that Arsenal brings to the table. This has been the 4th Crossfit affiliate gym that I have been a member of, currently is ranked as the top. The programming is challenging, yet always accommodating for any level of athlete. The coaching is persistent as well. The coaches aren't just the programmers liaisons, they deliver encouragement and attention to detail for all athletes. There is an abundance of equipment, which is extremely impressive for small-medium size box. My favorite amenity are the compression leg sleeves, which I have used almost everyday since joining :) The best compliment for the business is the hospitality that the staff delivers. Their kindness is extremely genuine and there is much more of a community that exists as oppose to other Crossfit affiliates in the surrounding area. Great place to join! I have been going here since August of last year. Prior to CFA I have had numerous bad experiences at Crossfit boxes. Coaches who didn't know what they were talking about and made me think they might get me hurt, bad vibes, etc. This place has been 180 degrees different. I came in for 8am yoga for athletes and 10am crossfit on Sunday. It's the first time I've been to another affiliate besides my home gym. Billy the yoga instructor was so welcoming and so was the rest of the class. The crossfit class was a great group of people. Again, awesome coach, Candy. It ended with a team hand-stack. I'm definitely coming back here when I'm in town again!! So happy I picked this one among all the others in the area that I found online. Thanks Jason!! read more

Although my stay at CrossFit Arsenal is short and I will be sadly leaving soon, Jason the owner has been very accommodating and understanding. My previous gym closed and left many of us "boxless". Having only belonged to one CrossFit gym (all women's CrossFit gym, too...) and not being a CrossFit expert, I had no idea where to go and was a little apprehensive about building a new relationship with another gym knowing that I would be leaving in several months. Jason was great at letting me come in not only for one free day (most of the other gyms I checked out required payment - reminder: I wasn't dropping in; I was scoping out where I would become an actual member), but a whole week to really get a feel for Arsenal and the people. That just showed me how much Jason cares about his members' personal growth, fitness journey, and choice in choosing a gym that works for them. The entire Arsenal community - the people AND the amazing coaches - has been AWESOME to train with and I am so happy with my decision to be a member even if only for a short period of time. I started CrossFit about 2 years ago at another gym (AKA Box) but, I switched to CF Arsenal about a year ago. It has been a very different experience. First, I did not come from a fitness background. Second, I'm a little older (40ish) than what I perceive to be the average CF age. Lastly, I'm not super great at making friends. At Arsenal, I found the smaller gym size and classes to be a perfect fit for me and my personality. The people here range from great athletes, to folks just trying to get a sweat on. All of them have been very friendly and zero ego. To top all of this off, Jason is an attentive coach and genuinely cares about the members. He is always trying to make Arsenal a better place for us. The other coaches all follow his lead in the same spirit. Community is often mentioned with CrossFit. Arsenal's community is real and positive. If you're on the fence, get off it, and come by. read more
