I've been passionate about strength training since I was a teen (am 37 now). As a long time passionate health nut, personal trainer. and health coach, I never EVER thought I would veer off from going to the typical commercial gym. Boy was I damn wrong. I am a research junkie, and love knowing the best ways to help the human body whether it be from a physical, mental/emotional, or nutritional focus. My Osteopath, (an avid and ranked man of CrossFit) began introducing CrossFit movement into my programming, and after getting my body healed and strong again we both felt it was quite ok to try something new. I did my research on local CrossFit "boxes" and decided to try out CrossFit FullStrength, as I read specific positive things regarding the owner's passion for programming and training people. The members I began to meet were amiable and the coaches I started learning from were extremely passionate about teaching specific movements from the ground up. I love exercise programming, as I have do this for my own clients, and this whole new ball game of CrossFit programming made me feel like a kid in a candy shop. After my first week or so at FullStrength I was on cloud nine! I couldn't believe the challenge of the new types of workouts I was experiencing, alongside the feeling of how much fun it was. I've always worked out solo for twenty years, maybe with a buddy once in a while. It was a whole new feeling to workout with a group, and a friendly and supportive group to say the least. For me it feels so damn good to cheer on other people, other people cheering you on, high living, and simply being supportive in ways that I never experienced in a commercial gym. Gayle Shalloo is the owner, and she moved into a new location just about one month ago. It's twice the size of the last location, has more goodies, and more smiling members are walking through the door. I've been a member for about seven months now, and it's been fantastic. Did I mention that her programming is awesome??? ha.. (challenging but just right), the coaches want you to do perform movements correctly, members are supportive (which I feel is essential for a business like this), and I CONSISTENTLY have a shitload of fun. I have build strength, endurance, and power beyond how I have trained myself in the past, and that ain't no bull. Don't let CrossFit intimidate you. Practically every exercise can be modified and scaled down for each individual. Everyone can start somewhere by building a foundation and processing from there. You can go to most "boxes" for a first class for free, and I highly suggest checking out FullStrength for one. This was the closest CrossFit gym to where I just bought a condo so I decided to check it out and it ended up being my gym for when in town from work. I bought the $65 for $125 Yelp deal for Crossfit Full Strength back in September and have been a member ever since! The coaches at Crossfit Full Strength are friendly, knowledgeable, and really supportive. You can tell that they care about their members and want to see everyone progress. If you have questions about form, technique, how to scale a workout to your level, how much weight you should start with, etc. they'll have an answer. If you are worried you won't be able to do one of the workouts, don't be - there are always scalable options and ways to work your way up! (But don't think scaling means it will make it easy...your guaranteed to always get your ass kicked). The other great thing about Crossfit Full Strength is that the other members are welcoming and encouraging as well. It's not uncommon to hear members offering each other an encouraging, "good job" as they pass each other during a run or finish up a tough work out. I highly recommend Crossfit Full Strength to anyone who is interested in trying Crossfit for the first time or anyone looking for a great CrossFit gym, in general. I joined the gym in June and been a member since than! I Had zero information what crossfit was....and after training for a week with them, I was hooked!! Since then, CrossFit has become an important part of my everyday life. I know everybody get intimidating when they hear crossfit at first, but you'll quickly realize how supportive all the coach and the gym member is. This place is perfect for fitness levels of all shapes and sizes. Our coach is great about breaking things down and showing you how to modify if needed. I discovered this place in 2017 by way of a 6-week Groupon. The first day they were doing box jumps and hand stand push ups! Ha! Ha! Ha! Yeah right! As if!!!! I was ready to fake illness and bail but the coach at the time just pulled us off to the side ( I had convinced my equally unfit friend to join me) and was like I want you to do 5 squats. He proceeds to demonstrate the proper stance and form, we squeeze out 5 squats, easy peasy beautiful covergirl! He comes back to us since he's still teaching a class and is like, "how was that?" And we're like, "Meh! Doable". Ok, give me 5 more. We get in position again and bump out 5 more. So this goes on for a while, he's going back and forth between us and the class. Then he comes over and is like ok, that was great! You guys just did 50 squats! WHATTT!!!! Sorcery! This was a lot for our couch potato selves...or should I say our corporate sit-in-a-chair-all-day flat butts! So, he proceeds to show us the actual work out. The box jumps, he would like us to step up onto the box instead. If that was too high, we could use stacked plates until we gained strength. We got plates just in case but we actually opted to try the step ups on the shorter side of the box. For the handstand push-ups, he showed us a few modifications but I had almost Zero upper-body strength, so even the box modification was a no-no! Final modification, sit on the box and use dumbbells to press up. 5lbs was so much weight, my arms felt like cooked noodles- not even al dente- mushy noodles! So, one of the things that brought me back the next day, and every weekday for the following 6 weeks was the importance they place on safety. Second, they (the coaches) will check you real quick on form. They will stop you and correct your form, which of course leads to progress. Thirdly, they have so much faith in you and will push you to increase your weight. And then you're of course surprised when you're able lift heavier. They really are observant and make sure that you're progressing. Fourth- they really become your family. The other members always offer encouragement, and they'll have a story like hey, I was once where you are. Take your time, do things safely and you'll improve. The competition is really against your former self. One last thing, I'm diabetic and I used to run high in the 400s. That first night of 50 squats plus step ups and the sitting hand stand push ups brought my sugars down to from 394 to 90! There's research about strength training and how it's the best way to lower your blood sugar. I didn't expect results on day 1. After the Groupon, I signed up for membership, then life happened, busy work schedule, blah blah blah! I stopped exercising. I ended up signing up at another CrossFit place which was closer to my job, but it wasn't the same. Last year, the stars aligned again. I had moved closer to Full Strength and a new job with a new schedule allowed me to actually make it to the classes. I've done the very early morning class and the evening classes, so I've only suffered under coaches Gayle and Ian, but I've heard great things about the other coaches. This was the first time for both me and my friend doing crossfit and Im not going to lie, I was a little nervous about it but I felt welcomed the moment I walked in the door. The coaches were extremely nice and Torri took the time to show us the proper form and worked back and forth with us throughout the entire class. There wasnt a moment where I felt lost or didnt know what I was doing. Everyone there is very encouraging and supportive. I already cant wait to go back and I will definitely be recommending Crossfit Full Strength to my friends. I would also like to mention how great the communication is with Gayle (the owner). I received a couple of emails from her leading up to my first day going and asking me if I had any questions for her and what to expect for my first class. Love it so much here at CFS! Gayle has been an incredible trainer who pushes you to your absolute limits but is also patient with your progress. Though every session absolutely kicks your butt but that's part of the journey. I think an important part of this journey is less focused on losing weight, and more about getting stronger/performing better. I really wanted to try a CrossFit gym because I had heard its a "kickass" workout program and I wanted to try something new. I saw an AmazonLocal voucher and thought I'd take a chance on it. Having just moved to the valley I been going around experimenting with different gyms to see if I can find the right fit for me. But after the first day, I didn't really want to go back!!! I have not had that reaction at other gyms, so my "perfect gym" hunt may be continued... First impression was not the best! Email interactions asking for more information were super brief, impersonable, and not very informative. I had no idea what I was getting into on my first day, where to go, what their sign up procedure was, etc! So I looked on their website for more info. apparently they have this whole "consultation-fitness testing-intro class" introduction structure on their website, but apparently in the email I was just told to show up for the 101 class to learn basic skills. Fine, ok, I will swing it! First class experience: The location is a total pain on the ass to find. I spent twenty minutes just looking for the gym! Which, in crossfit, 20 min is about as long as your workout. As I was so totally lost, I tried calling the gym three times to get directions - no answer, and no call back. What is so hard about answering a phone call??? Please help me get to your business! The answer is, for prospectors-- the gym is on the second floor of the Arcadia ice rink - you have to drive around the side of the building and go allllll the way in the back and then up a flight of stairs. If you've made it into the right alleyway you'll see the sign. The gym itself seemed cluttered and the front desk was totally disorganized, but generally clean. The equipment also seems kind of run down but the place is pretty well stocked. There are pretty much no mirrors. The other classmates were friendly enough, and introduced themselves to me as is apparently status quo there. My trainer did provide me with extra help on my first day, as despite my decent prior PT experience, we hadn't done too much Olympic lifting and that was the bulk of the WOD for that day. I could tell the trainer was super knowledgeable, but the technique & form she wanted me to use was new, so I felt a little uncomfortable. I let her know that I was new and had been taught differently by my personal trainer for a long while, and she explained "full range of motion" philosophy etc etc, pointing to a sign on the wall about some 1997 study from some doctor at John Hopkins. ok fine, I'll try it. I moved to the mirror so I could try to watch myself to make sure I was mimicking her movement correctly. This prompted a seedy "You don't need the mirror!!! You have a coach!" from our trainer. Ok lady, calm your horses, I was just trying to make sure I get the new technique you're being so picky about! The workout was just a "mehh" workout. I walked away wondering, "They post all their work outs online. so if you have a gym at your complex like I do, I don't see why you would pay all of that money when you can just go online and see what their workout is and do it yourself on your own without them sucking up your money. Sure, there's trainers helping you, but after you learn how to do the exercises they don't seem as necessary". You could get away with it but its up to you to judge whether the value in the trainer and the group class formats will be worth it for full price. At the end of the work out I made a special point to go up to the trainer and thank her for all of her extra help in showing me the new techniques bc I was new. She didn't even make eye contact with me and mumbled a thin "welcome" and turned away. Ok cool! That totally makes me want to bust my ass in your class and come back to see you again! (Sarcasm) I am willing to give the gym a couple more tries to see if my first impression gets any better. My coupon is for a whole month, so I might as well use it. I will post updates at that point. I do hope it gets better as I become more familiar. read more

This place is legit. No other way to put it. It's hard work and it's committment but there is a great support group there to help you push through. I'm into my second month, I take the morning class and I know it's the place for me because I already have such a love/hate relationship with it. Crossfit might not be for everybody, but you won't know until you try. Gayle, Jen and Travis are fantastic at instruction and motivation and they certainly "walk the walk." Throw away your gym membership and also some of your pride, because it is very challenging, I can't lie. But I dug my hole and Full Strength Crossfit is helping me to get out of it. I have now moved on to the point where the guilt of not getting up and going is greater than the pain (good pain) I feel when I complete a workout. Awesome workout space, expanding class schedule, brand new equipment...not much more to say. And honestly, not much more I can type because i am so exhausted from the 6am WOD "Workout of the Day" this morning. It wasn't pretty....but what were you doing at 6am this morning while I was kicking ass? (I said good for kids because they do have youth classes as well) read more

CrossFit is more than just a work out, it's a community! CrossFit Full Strength's staff and members are simply one of the best in the Valley! Gayle and her team of coaches are knowledgeable, motivating, and sincere! You tell any one of them what your goals are and they will see to it that you get there! The hardest thing about CrossFit is just showing up for your first day! Once you get through your first couple of weeks, begin to get familiar with the movements, and meet other members of all fitness levels; you will get addicted...PROMISE! I am a two time cancer survivor of Hodgkin's Lymphoma that has both chemo induced and circulatory neuropathy and issues with my lower spine. However, Gayle and the other coaches have worked with me to scale down the WODS when necessary. I can go on forever on how much I love CrossFit and how it's changed my life! It's been roughly 10 years since I exercised. I was wasting my time and money at a typical gym and never see results. Until joining CrossFit Full Strength! I am extremely happy to have found CrossFit Full Strength. Gayle (the owner) does an awesome job at managing the gym. She is lightening fast to respond to text/email and truly cares about the members and staff. I am a pretty shy person and I have never done anything like this, but the atmosphere is very welcoming and everyone (including members) are extremely friendly! I have never lifted weights to this degree. The coaches are awesome and helped me with my form and guide me on the different techniques. Coach Ian is extremely nice and relaxed while teaching sessions and always guiding my form and testing my strength. Coach Dustin is awesome as well. He has a very approachable personality and has shown me the difference in what techniques I should or shouldn't do. I was scared to join CrossFit at first, but I needed something worth while that caught my attention, mixed up my routine and something community based - this gym is everything I was looking for! (On a side note; I have been doing this for three weeks now and have already seen the inches decrease. I was a size 18 and I am now down to 15/14!) read more

I have been doing CrossFit for over 2 years and have dropped in at several boxes across multiple states. About 2 months ago my girlfriend and I joined CrossFit Full Strength and we both absolutely love it. I've noticed that every trainer is VERY responsive to all of the athletes, regardless of your skill level. My girlfriend is new to CrossFit and they diligent in making sure she has proper form before going up in weight. It's obvious that they care about their members health, performance and goals. The Full Strength coaches and members are a very friendly/social crowd and are welcoming to new members. As with any box, the WOD programming varies, but after spending 2+ months going 5-6 times a week, I can say without a doubt that they put together a great program. I have seen huge gains in strength and am looking forward to working on some of my other skills with them. This is by far the best CrossFit in town. Everytime I have come into the gym the members are always very welcoming. The programming is always well thought out. It's also great to know that the coaching staff has more than just a level 1 crossfit certification. That just tells me that they are well educated and know what they are talking about. I was in town for business and wanted a butt kicking for a few days. I have been a member of Orange Theory Fitness for the past 2 years and I learned a lot about my body and built endurance and strength I never knew I had. I was treated well and have many stories of where I felt encourage and supported. However ....... A friend challenged me to attend Cross Fit Full strength for the MURPH!! WOW!!! The trainer and the workout blew me away. Chayet is amazing as he instructs and engages with all clients. He demonstrates genuine care for for the physical body and has a careful eye on the way we are engaging the workouts. HIs patience is stellar as I am learning new and different forms and styles of exercise. He is there with me every step of the way assuring me of correct form. (very important to me) He goes way and above in helping me to achieve my desires. Ive attended several classes and each class has offered me the same consideration and a great challenging workout. In less than 3 weeks, Ive attended yoga class, several challenging workouts and a nutrional class give by Chayet and Lydia that offered amazing samples of quality foods and plenty of suggestions with great feed back for a different way of eating. I have not once felt rushed by my many questions. The trainers there truly give me the time I need to make sure I have all I need to succeed as I choose. Cross Fit Full Strength is a friendly environment with community being a focus. offering events to join in and engage with other members in a fun laid back setting as we have opportunity to get to know each other if we choose. Ive had several interactions with the owner Gayle as well and its always positive and supportive in meeting my needs and desires. Lastly, but truly icing on the cake is Cross Fit Offers amazing meals either Paleo or The Zone fully prepared for pick up from Chef Christopher with Zone Diet Solutions. I tried the meals and they are perfect for me with a very busy life , all I have to do is pick them up and reheat. I am being introduced to a variety of very tasty foods that I dont have to shop for or cook!! The price is very affordable and manageable. A true blessing for me!!!! I am excited and motivated to make Cross Fit Full Strength my new home for fitness and over all continued pursuit of well being in my physical and nutritional body!I I have been given everything I need to be successful in my body, the rest is up to me! Wow. This place is amazing. I was totally intimidated to try CrossFit. Gayle responded to my emails right away and helped me set up my first class. Everyone was welcoming and introduced themselves before class even started. We started with a structured warm up and then focused on technique to learn Olympic lifting. I've never lifted before but felt like I was being watched and coached the entire time. To be honest, everyone got attention from the coaches. This place is great! I'm not typically one to write reviews but this place is so good i had to spend time recommending it. The instructors are extremely supportive and knowledgeable. The members span from beginners to more advanced and all are really nice people. There was a really nice sense of community. I'm a transplant from out of town and wanted a workout plan for a month while I was in Phoenix and this was perfect. I've seen great results and had a blast working out. This place demonstrates all the good things about crossfit. AND they are moving to a bigger space soon! read more

My husband and visited AZ in April and decided to drop into Crossfit Full Strength. We were greeted by Gayle who had just finished doing the WOD herself! She was so inviting and chatted with us about about NY and hockey. Class was great, she gave me some awesome rowing advice and encouraged me to finish my reps when I was stalling in between movements. I had a great experience coming here and will definitely be back next time I visit! PS - I love boxes that publicly post their WODs so visitors can prepare! Thanks for that! read more
