I've been a member for over a decade, and over the years I've noticed a decline in several areas…read more The biggest issue is the water fountain. It's honestly one of the nastiest I've seen. The top around the water filter is rusty, old, and appears moldy. The drainage holes are dirty and moldy as well. This has been an ongoing issue for years, and it's surprising that such a basic part of the gym hasn't been addressed. The indoor cycling equipment also needs attention. There are two nice FreeMotion bikes, but they aren't being maintained. The pedal straps are constantly broken. One bike has essentially been abandoned, and now the other one has the same problem. Another issue is the hand sanitizer stations. While there are plenty throughout the gym, some stay empty for weeks before being refilled. Overall cleanliness has also slipped. The obvious areas are cleaned, but if you look at corners, door frames, and less visible spots, you'll find spider webs and bugs. It gives the impression that only the most visible areas receive regular attention. That said, there are things this gym does very well. The staff is always genuinely kind and welcoming without feeling forced. They hire great people. The workout machines are clean, and the new layout is a significant improvement. The reason I'm giving this a one-star review is the water fountain. It's been unsanitary for far too long, and clean drinking water is a basic expectation for any gym. Fixing that alone would make a huge difference.

Since then, they have followed him up to his new gym! I swung by a couple of Saturdays ago and did a 30 min workout here with the guys. I didn't know what to expect, especially since I have never been to a crossfit gym before. Our workout that morning was more conditioning exercises and I actually enjoyed it! We did the 9 AM workout with Coach Anna. I struggled with push presses and Joel and Anna were there to walk me through the movements when my form was not correct. Thank you! Cody was sore the following days and could barely lift his arms. I was decently sore as well. Meaning it was a great workout and it was only 30 min! It is a great space, very clean, and the coaches are very enthusiastic for you to be there! I'll definitely go by again when I am around on the weekends more!

When I asked why the employee Damon P told me, "I should have called before buying it because they didn't post it, Groupon did." Showing my frustration I asked why is it even up... "well we need more people," Damon responds. A significant contradiction. I get how businesses are struggling. I just don't like being manipulated into coming in, and then being told it's my fault cause I didn't, "double check with the business," and then basically get told, "we didn't do it, but we did cause we needed you to come in." I was nervous to try OTF because of my lack of fitness and experience. My trial class was with Coach Anna. The studio called the night before to walk me through what to expect, which I really appreciated. On the day of the first class, the front desk staff and Coach Anna walked me through everything and answered all my questions. Anna continued to check in throughout the workout to make sure I was doing okay. I finished and was shocked that I didn't hate it. I very hesitantly signed up, but I'm happy to report that months later, I'm still loving it and feel better than ever. Things I love about OTF in general: I don't have to make decisions about what exercises to do each day, I can't back out last minute if I'm not in the mood (there's some flexibility for real emergencies if you call them), you set your own pace and intensity, classes fly by and I don't get bored, coaches are always there to answer questions and give feedback/recommendations, the benchmarks and challenges keep me motivated, and maybe most importantly, I've seen huge changes in my overall health and strength. Specific Shoreline studio details: the front desk staff are so friendly. They always greet me by name with a smile. The studio is clean and well cared for. I mostly take classes with Anna and Mitchell, just because that's what works with my schedule. They are both amazing at what they do. They're kind, motivating, personable, and I love that they give me feedback on form when lifting. For me, this is really important so I don't injure myself and so that I'm working the right muscles. One piece of feedback is for ALL of the coaches to give feedback on form on the weight floor. I've taken some classes where the coaches are pretty quiet and don't really interact with the people in the class, and it's not as helpful for me as someone newer to lifting. Overall, I love this OTF studio and look forward to many classes to come (especially with Anna and Mitchell)!

I love collaborating with Ray because he is very, VERY knowledgeable. He can breakdown your workouts into simple formats and he can explain things into science when necessary. Our communication was amazing! When I have an injury, I say it. And the moment I say it, he immediately knows what to do and he shifts gears to work around it. I even mentioned about my left knee ACL surgery and guess what? He helped me work around that too! My goal was to get back into shuffling (electronic music dance form) and he pinpointed the areas where I need to work on most in order for me to effectively get back into my goal. He is such an amazing Trainer. The team is very welcoming and it feels like a second family.

In fact, he spent almost 4 hours with me (program covers only 2) just to explain everything in meticulous detail and cover all the modifications required for my individual health needs. He was extremely attentive, motivating, and FUN! We became friends and I always looked forward to my training sessions. Another big advantage to book with PureResults is because Ray explains the reasoning behind each exercise and the reasoning behind the order we do it in because he cares about instilling that knowledge in his clients as well. I learned more about my body and how to take care of it working with Ray in this short time than I have in the last 10 years I've been trying to yo-yo diet and work out on my own. Your money is well spent here - Ray and May are honest, hard-working, knowledgeable, caring, and awesome individuals who want nothing more than to change peoples' lives for the better. My first encounter with SSP was a Saturday morning Metabolic Conditioning class. For someone who doesn't really know her way around weights & equipment and was def more out of shape than the other folks there, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Everyone was SO friendly and made me feel like I was joining a community as soon as I walked through the door. Throughout the entire hour, Ro led our class of about 10-15 people through a series of high-intensity interval training workouts and made sure we were all appropriately pushed to our limits. Every exercise was super form-focused and accessible to different skill levels and abilities. I may have felt like I needed to vom and/or pass out a couple of times but, more than anything, I was v proud of myself for challenging my body. Since that class, I have returned and worked out with a number of the other trainers (Meg, Ana, and Jay) who are all equally attentive, encouraging, and just the best. The exercises they prepare are always tough, fun, and never the same. I never thought I'd be one to use kettlebells, TRX, and battle ropes but here I am, getting a little stronger every time I go to SSP. I often think about how miserable I was with my virtually nonexistent exercise routine about a year ago and am so glad that I found this gym. The draw for ECA over big places like LA/24 hour was the smaller business vibe & I wanted to "shop local". I also liked the childcare options. 1. when we signed up at the Ballinger Village location with Brody, he made a big show of telling us (my husband and I) how they're a small business and they're not out to get money, he said most of them are just personal trainers or nutritionists, NOT BUSINESSMEN (i remember this line because he repeated it several times). So he encouraged me to sign up for the champions class. I asked specifically if I could cancel if it didn't fit my needs/baby schedule. He said "of course. But I'd recommend you try it for at least 60 days so you can really see if it works for you. And if you still need to cancel, just reach out. We're really chill here." This was near verbatim. 2. After more than a couple months, I found the champions class great for others but not for me/my toddler's schedule so I emailed to cancel which was the ONLY option I was given. And the email response was short, rude, and included a "$299 + tax downgrade fee" for the cancellation. Mind you, I wasn't trying to cancel our membership. Just MY champions access. I told them what Brody had told us just months prior and they absolutely didn't budge. That's fine. It's policy - I get it. But this is totally the kind of stuff big businesses pull and they should be up front. 3. We ended up completely cancelling our memberships (both of us) because we thought this way of business was shady and when you think about the cost and what they offer v. what big gyms offer (LA/24) then you'll realize it's absolutely not worth it. all that talk in the beginning is EXACTLY what it sounds like. a sales pitch. don't be sucked in. **I will say the teachers at the childcare are above and beyond. I have told everyone I know about our ECA experience and hopefully saved people quite a bit of $$$ but I have nothing negative to say about the teachers at childcare. ** in case my review is too long. read this reddit forum. https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/oanvzy/emerald_city_athletics_a_toxic_manipulative_and/
