Am I working this muscle group enough? Super studios makes sure you leave there definitely feeling like every muscle group has been worked! The classes are small, and the instructors are very nice! I danced for 15 years and so I knew that Barre stood for a ballet barre, so I assumed it had to be some type of exercise studio. All of the ladies that work here are super friendly. They have a lot of really great packages and programs. Student discounts, Corporate discounts (if you can get five people to sign up), and New Client Memberships. I decided to try it out and purchased a drop in class which was $18.00. Man! This is not for the faint of heart. I had to modify most of the exercises, and had to take multiple breaks the first couple of weeks. I have always been a pretty active person. I played basketball in college (DII NCAA), and danced. I had been doing CrossFit for 10 months, but had taken a break from it due to multiple surgeries. I also didn't like how bulky I got doing CrossFit or that my WOD only took 20 minutes, and I felt like I hadn't worked out long enough. Barre is completely different. It is very challenging! This is not some Zumba class at your local Y. It is a full hour of circuit style barre/yoga/pilates style exercises. You will get your cardio! Don't worry! You will not stop moving for an entire hour. I love that I get a full body workout and my cardio in an hour. The same workout would take 2 hours of weights and then a two mile run just to get the same feeling. As a mother, I don't have three hours a day to spend at the gym. Barre provides variety to avoid muscle memory, and every class is different. I have been taking all of the 12 o'clock classes during my lunch hour (with the exception of Tuesdays). There are different instructors on different days, but even if you get the same person leading the class the workout is ALWAYS different. I usually have class with Trish or Elizabeth's, and I have done one 4:30 class with Dena. Love all of their styles. They are great. Elizabeth and Trish give modifications and really guide you to challenge yourself, and not give up. I literally feel addicted. I am coming 5 times a week, and I can tell on the days when I don't go that I missed a workout. This isn't a fad workout program, and there are a bunch out there. It is hard work, but if you do it, you wil get the results you want and better! I knew the first time I walked into class and saw a small group of women that looked like dancers that I was in the right place. Not because I look like a dancer, but because I want to look like one! lol I already feel leaner and more flexible. Just try a drop in class, you will be hoooked! It is great, tons of fun, and you will be back.

The class formats are really fun-lots of variety and each week builds on previous classes so you feel like you're learning and getting the hang of things after a week or two. Walking into the studio is also just FUN- so inclusive, fun music and lights, and super supportive instructors. My favorite classes are Bands with Elise and Dance with Chris! I feel like even after 2 weeks of consistency I already feel like my endurance is improving and I was able to advance to a more challenging resistance band in the Bands class. Looking forward to seeing results once I keep up the consistency!

I went to my first class a few weeks ago and this was the first fitness class that I thought about walking out before it ended. Don't get me wrong, the studio is awesome and has a nice vibe - the staff is super friendly as well. But this didn't feel like dancing...it was more like...how would I describe it... choreographed fitness steps for suburban housewives with no rhythm. Ah, there we go. Instructions were super fast and hard to follow, the music didn't match the vibe of the dance.... ie: attempting to dance hip hop style to a Jackson 5 song. (I use the term hip hop style loosely because I *think* that's what they were aiming for.) I'm glad I went though..I'd been wanting to try AKT for a while but learned it was not for me. I think this could be a great place for a specific demographic, though.

BIG KUDOS! I would like to send a big shout-out to the staff at Emerald City…read moreAthletic Club to go beyond to help a fellow member. I have been going to this establishment for 16 years and I could not be happier. The club put a lot of money into recent renovations and upgrades. It is up to standards with state-of-the-art equipment. Whether a person chooses to use the machinery for cardiovascular purposes, muscle strength, or weight loss, this is the ideal place to achieve your fitness goals! It simply is not possible to walk out the door without feeling a profound sense of accomplishment and better overall health. The best part of all is the staff. I have had Cerebral Palsy all my life. I have had to make do with one wheelchair to use both inside my home and in my car. It was in bad shape. There is a wonderful maintenance lady by the name of Jen H. surprised me and gave me a cool wheelchair that she had at home. This chair was brand new and is a great chair for me to utilize at home. But the kindness and compassion did not stop there. My old wheelchair was in desperate need of an overhaul. She went ahead and ordered me a new seat for the chair and new armrests. Now, I can feel more at ease knowing I have extra reinforcements with new and sturdy material. Now I have both a wheelchair for my house and one for my car that I can use at the gym. That made my life so much easier. Jenn and a courteous staff member by the name of John Y. volunteered their time and installed both items for me right there at the club. The staff is so caring and friendly, and they do put the customer first as you can see. There is also a friendly lady who works at the front desk named Jenny V. who helps me put my wheelchair in my car when I am ready to leave at the end of the day. The staff at this club makes me feel like I matter. They are like family to me. I am committed to being a lifelong member of this gym. I give my highest regards and recommendations to this staff and cannot speak highly enough about them. If you are looking for a new gym, please go to the Emerald City Athletic Club. You will not be disappointed.

The draw for ECA over big places like LA/24 hour was the smaller business vibe & I wanted to "shop local". I also liked the childcare options. 1. when we signed up at the Ballinger Village location with Brody, he made a big show of telling us (my husband and I) how they're a small business and they're not out to get money, he said most of them are just personal trainers or nutritionists, NOT BUSINESSMEN (i remember this line because he repeated it several times). So he encouraged me to sign up for the champions class. I asked specifically if I could cancel if it didn't fit my needs/baby schedule. He said "of course. But I'd recommend you try it for at least 60 days so you can really see if it works for you. And if you still need to cancel, just reach out. We're really chill here." This was near verbatim. 2. After more than a couple months, I found the champions class great for others but not for me/my toddler's schedule so I emailed to cancel which was the ONLY option I was given. And the email response was short, rude, and included a "$299 + tax downgrade fee" for the cancellation. Mind you, I wasn't trying to cancel our membership. Just MY champions access. I told them what Brody had told us just months prior and they absolutely didn't budge. That's fine. It's policy - I get it. But this is totally the kind of stuff big businesses pull and they should be up front. 3. We ended up completely cancelling our memberships (both of us) because we thought this way of business was shady and when you think about the cost and what they offer v. what big gyms offer (LA/24) then you'll realize it's absolutely not worth it. all that talk in the beginning is EXACTLY what it sounds like. a sales pitch. don't be sucked in. oh also. i left a review for ballinger which i think is their newest but i usually go to everett (my husband goes to ballinger and I've been a couple times) - uniquely to the everett location, everything is disgusting. I would NOT shower there if I were you. At least one different machine is broken every week, the bathroom is perpetually wet probably because they have no paper towels. Honestly we go to 24 hour now and it's a breath of fresh air. literally **I will say the teachers at the childcare are above and beyond. I have told everyone I know about our ECA experience and hopefully saved people quite a bit of $$$ but I have nothing negative to say about the teachers at childcare. ** in case my review is too long. read this reddit forum. https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/oanvzy/emerald_city_athletics_a_toxic_manipulative_and/
