I can't say enough great things about CrossFit Liberate. I'd never done any form of CrossFit before, so I started with the Foundations classes (really well-designed and accessible for a beginner). Every time I've stepped into the gym over the past month and a half, I've been met with supportive coaches and encouraging athletes. You can expect a challenging workout (lots of variety!) where everyone roots for each other. I'm always in awe of the athletes around me and never feel like I'm being judged for scaling/modifying a workout to make it more successful. The gym schedule is also a big perk: I take the 5am crossfit classes during the week (thanks for the early classes that fit a teacher's schedule!) and love the yoga & aerobic conditioning options over the weekend. This community is the perfect place for crossfit athletes of all experience levels. You won't feel intimidated just supported and exhausted from a really great workout! I started at Liberate 2 months ago after moving to Athens. My husband and I tried out all the crossfit type gyms in the area and Liberate felt like exactly what we wanted in a gym: great programming, nice people, up-to-date equipment, and a sense of community. While I had been active with crossfit for 2 years, I had just come off a 9 month break due to some back issues (non-crossfit related). I felt as if I understood the movements and starting at Liberate would just mean "getting back in to it" and learning very little. After being at Liberate for just 2 months I am shocked at how much my form has improved. The coaches are competent, attentive, nice, and a whole lot of fun. I am so impressed with CrossFit. My daughter lives in Athens, Georgia and every time I come to visit I need a place to work out. The owners at CrossFit liberate have always been so to my fitness needs. I'm on a rowing team in San Diego California and our Rowing Coach requires us to work out on the rowing machine even when we are out of town. I got in touch with this business 4 months ago regarding their noise levels before a reasonable hour. I am woken up everyday between 5-6:30 am by their music. Jan said they would "try" to keep it down but ultimately it was "unfortunate I live across the street and I should get some ear plugs";instead of fixing a problem they create and have 1000% control over. I have given them a fair chance to see if a change would be made and I am still affected by them constantly. I feel compelled to share my experience with CrossFit Liberate because it would be hard for myself to support a business after they knowingly continue to be inconsiderate of the students and people that live around them. read more

By far, the greatest CrossFit gym I have been to. The structure, capabilities, and knowledge base present here is second to none. As someone with a Masters in Exercise Physiology I pride myself in being able to provide input of ways to improve plans, structure, and retention. I have no such critiques here! I've been going for about a month now and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. All the coaches are helpful and approachable. The facility is top notch. Everything is organized and well-maintained. More importantly I would argue it doesn't fit the stereotypical idea of a CF gym. People aren't spending 30 minutes before hand choosing the right outfit to go CF in. It's a lot of good people, all age ranges, getting in the gym and getting after it. The community is full of nice, supportive folks. Good mix of heavy lifting and hard cardio. If you aren't sure if you'd like CrossFit, I'd suggest coming here and giving it a shot. read more

If you're debating whether to join CrossFit Liberate -- do it! I've had a pretty...scattered fitness background since I got to Athens. I've joined (and dropped) multiple gyms, yoga studios, group fitness programs, etc. and CFL has been, by far, the most effective, informative, and welcoming space! The coaches are deeply invested in your mastery of the movements, even if that means getting fewer reps to start out or working up from scaled/modified options. This was especially encouraging for me because I was intimidated by the very idea of CrossFit; I thought I needed to have a certain build or ability level before I could start/succeed -- not the case! Between the patient guidance of coaches and the genuine support from other members, I have developed skill and confidence in my fitness. Joining CFL was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The coaches are so awesome and uplifting, as well as the members. Being newish to Athens, I didn't really know that many people, and the people in this gym welcomed me with open arms from the first day that I tried the free class. I am very thankful for this positive community and for the coaches. The coaches push you to work harder, believe in you and actually care about you. The facility is also a 10/10. Only went once, and that was in conjunction with my autistic son's E(xtra) S(pecial) P(eople) exercise program, which visits accommodating local gyms each Thursday for a modified (for special needs students') workout class. Staff was very accepting of each student's abilities (or lack thereof). Very knowledgeable, very motivating, very encouraging. My son just had a great time and a good reasonable workout. Thankyou CrossFit Liberate for helping people with special needs be the best they can be! If they ask you to sign an "Injury Liability Waiver" just before a workout, be aware it is a lot more than just that. It's also a contract which states that you cannot receive any refunds, for any reason, even for the months paid in advance. The staff here is great; unfortunately, the two owners do not represent the staff in the same way. Covid-19 hit two weeks after I signed up for the gym, and I already paid in advance for 3 months. Due to covid-19, they had to close down. I asked for a partial refund for the months I would not be able to use the gym since I paid in advance, and they referred to the Injury Waiver as the reason they would not refund my account. They did offer to put my account on hold and extend my prepaid months beyond the city-wide shutdown, but I reminded them that I couldn't do that since I would be moving at the end of what I prepaid for, and I referenced the email I sent Jack (one of the co-owners) when I initially signed up. He said he understood, and would talk with the other co-owner, who also owns several other businesses in Athens. The next day, they informed me our discussion was over, and they said I could not have any part of my 3-month advanced payment refunded. I really liked the gym; it has great equipment, and the staff was awesome, along with the rest of its members. It's a shame this was handled the way it was. The two owners did not represent my interactions with anyone else at the gym; however, I would strongly advise anyone considering this gym to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other options in Athens. read more

I love CrossFit Liberate! Jack, Gillen, Nat, Jan, and the entire team have been so welcoming. I haven't done CF in a few years and I was a little nervous getting started again. I had no reason to worry, every instructor walks through the steps of each movement and lift to insure correct form. The emphasis is on getting a great workout no matter what age or level athlete you are. Liberate is a great community and I've enjoyed meeting so many friendly people. The facility itself is beautiful and clean with plenty of space. They offer yoga, on-site physical therapy, free community WODs in addition to CF. From the owners to every member of staff, these folks take great pride in their work, there is absolutely no intimidation, and it's so much fun. If you are considering starting to go to CrossFit I would highly recommend Liberate. The coaches actually care about your form and making sure you don't hurt yourself while pushing you to new limits you forgot you had at one point in your life. The coach to client ratio allows for constant reminders in how to do the movements correctly, as well as personalized motivation. read more
