I was scheduled to perform a photo shoot at the gym and my experience there was nothing short of amazing. I have been out of circulation in terms of working out due to some injuries but being in that gym, that environment with that group of people has made me hungry to start up again. Watching everyone interact with each other, seeing the coaches do what they do and the camaraderie between the members - I was amazed at how well everything flowed and the amount of support they were showing each other. Crossfitting mainly out of my garage, I didn't pay much attention to WOD tempo, movement efficiency, and the more technical oly lifts, but I'm learning their importance since joining Crossfit Reflexion - and Ive gained a new respect for CF as a sport, rather than just a conditioning tool. As contradictory as it sounds, the atmosphere in the gym is relaxed yet focused. It's obvious that everyone is there to train (and they train hard), but no one ever seems too busy to lend a hand or give advice to a noob such as myself. The coaches are attentive, and actually use their own programming. I'm glad to be part of a box with such experienced athletes (many members have CF Level 1 Cert.) and such a high level of coaching. As an active CrossFitter for the past 4 1/2 years I have been coached by many CrossFit trainers. CrossFit Reflexion is hands down the best gym in town! Not only are the coaches fantastic but the community is as well. I feel like I am pushed to new levels each day and not only are the workouts great, there is a tailored nutrition plan with my membership, which keeps me accountable. Shawn Wilson set me up with a nutrition plan that, although I was skeptical, is totally working for me. People always say "abs are made in the kitchen" and I never really saw that until changing my diet with his help! When it comes to Olympic lifting, you can't find any better than our own Coach J. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable when it comes to Olympic lifting; he is patient and always has a way of pushing me to new limits. I came here over a year ago and am still irked by my experience. I had never done crossfit before but mentioned that I was a newbie runner. Immediately felt like an idiot when two minutes later I was panting and couldn't keep up with the others during our warm-up consisting of "light jogging" and squats. I think the instructor finally let me off with one less round since I was the only girl there and visibly dragging. As the workout continued I was hesitant to do anything without supervision being so unfamiliar with the equipment and prone to injuries, but I have to say, the instructor caught on and stayed with me for most of it. I appreciated this but ultimately was offended when he started prodding me about my goals. I told him I was just looking to do some strength training to avoid injuries while I trained for races. He asked what my most recent 5k time was (35 minutes) and then went off about how he could get me down to a 15 minute 5k and bragged that another of his female clients that had done it. Dude -- if it's my first time here I really don't want to be bullied and harassed about goals I have expressed ZERO interest in. Back off with the aggro peer pressure and race time shaming. To top it off, the next day my legs felt like snapped rubber bands. I could barely walk much less run for days after. If you are a newbie crossfitter definitely go to the fundamentals class. And if you're thinking about grouponing, don't. I'd take whatever discounted first class option they have instead of committing to a pack. I for one will probably never step foot into this place -- nor any other crossfit gym, again. read more

I've been Crossfitting since Feb 2008 and have been around many CF facitilites, and CF Reflexion stands to be amoung the best. Coaches here bring years of experience in perfecting technique from air squats to olympic lifts in a motivating and supportive environment. Crossfit Reflexion is by far one of the best gyms in the Portland area. I have been to other crossfit gyms and regular gyms and I have never gotten anything near the amazing customer service that I have from the trainers at Crossfit Reflexion. Shaw, Jesse, and Erick care about each member equally. They are engaged from day 1 with helping you reach your goals. They are open to people coming in who want to do more strength training or Olympic lifting work than just pure crossfit. The nutrition plan (included in membership) is awesome and Shawn does great work tailoring your nutrition plan to your specific goals (lose weight, gain strength, etc.). When I arrive at the gym I feel like I am spending time with family rather than just working out. The atmosphere is enjoyable and everyone from the most veteran members to the newest are welcoming and friendly. Everyone there, not just the coaches, want to see you excel and reach your goals. I have been working with Shawn, Jesse, and Erick since July 2012 and I have seen my strength increase, my technique improve and my endurance increase. I was doing crossfit at another gym for a year and I never saw the gains that I have experienced in just the few short months of going to Crossfit Reflexion. My back squat went from 185# to 300# in 8 weeks! My Olympic lifting has become more technically sound. I am also leaner than I was before while still maintaining my strength and speed. Not only have I gotten better but thanks to the world class training Shawn, Jesse and Erick provide, I have been able to avoid injury while still maintaining a demanding training program. Before reflexion I didn't have the best training and coaching, once I changed boxes I was so impressed with the training of how knowledgable, caring, patient and all around great coaching for every individual. I worked out with Crossfit Reflexion for 3 weeks while visiting my family. These guys really are as good as it gets! Had a wonderful introduction to the world of Crossfit.
