Pastor Jack deserves 5 stars. My 1-star more has to do with my men's Bible study experience. I was assigned to a men's group of about 15 and then assigned to partner up with the leader of our group who was a former school teacher. When he and I met one-on-one, he spent a lot of time bragging about himself and his career and then when he asked about me, I told him my work in technology and how I have been traveling throughout Asia for years working Asian governments and some of the largest companies there. He replied that he was not familiar with the technology world and had no interest in learning about it or my career. Then in class, we were discussing Proverbs 1:8: "Listen, my son, to your father's instruction..." And I said to the group, I am not sure how to take this because my father who has passed, was an alcoholic, a violent physical, emotional verbal abuser to me, and it was very clear he was more out to tear me down than build me up so I had to keep him arms length. And as a result, any instruction from him was more often than not manipulative. And then the Bible study leader, said to me, you know, I believe you were a bad kid and that you deserved that treatment from your father and I have a feeling that your father was a great man and you were the bad one. So I asked him, we have known each other for literally minutes and that is an extremely strong presumption you are making here on what should be a safe place and I don't think Pastor Jack would be thrilled with you making a statement like that in a Bible study on his campus. And it is extremely concerning to me that an alleged Calvary Christian man under Pastor Jack's leadership is saying that any kid deserves to be violently physically abused. And he replied, Pastor Jack is known for not being afraid to make controversial remarks and that is what I am doing. And then a solid Christian brother sitting next to me saw the Bible leader was out of place and then started to try to calm him down and bring the group back to Proverbs 1:8 and gave his interpretation of it. I never returned to the Bible study there after that experience of revealing what was a very private experience in my life in what I thought was a safe place and then having that Bible study leader weaponize it against me and humiliate me. That Bible study group leader actually reminded me of my violently abusive father and I walked away thinking abusers protect abusers and I will never return to another Calvary Chapel Chino Hills Mens Bible study.

We were in a transition period in our…read morelives, and we had our list of churches and were going to go and sit for 1 month in those churches. We started with CVCC, and after month of being there...we were home. We didn't need to go any farther. CVCC brought us in and welcomed us with open arms. The people there are very warm and caring. The lead Pastor, Brian Benson, is a wonderful man, and has a wonderful family. He shepherds God's flock confidently but humbly. He takes us through the Word of God effortlessly and challenges us. It's not fluff. He gets us to think and reflect and challenges us to be better in many ways. He and his family sets an example of service. I have seen the man help clean up messes in the foyer of his church before and during the service. And his family is serving right alongside him in ministry. Their Children's Ministry was a big draw for us. We wanted to make absolutely certain our triplets were going to be ministered to, and indeed they are. The leaders there then and now are wonderful people, and our kiddos are growing closer to God the more they engage in the ministry. They have a Rockstar Sports Camp + VBS on campus during the summer and a year-long, age appropriate Sunday School service and message for them. There is no shortage of events for the kids throughout the year. The Worship is exceptional. Our idea of worship is that it is to guide you into the throne room of God and prepare your hearts for the message. Indeed it does! Our worship team exudes a reverent awe for God while they are worshipping. It is very clear they are called to lead in worship. We are very happy with our church and invite you to come and visit. If you're like us, it won't take long and you will know you are home.

After visiting a few churches, we eventually found what is now Verve City Church. We started attending in 2018 and have been part of the community ever since. I really appreciate how Josh, the lead pastor, challenges us to deepen our faith and helps us better understand the character of Jesus. Verve City has been a place where we've grown spiritually and built meaningful relationships.

Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect what we expected. When we arrived, we did not receive any greeting or warm welcome. This stood out to us because at my home church, even though it is two hours away, visitors are usually greeted and made to feel comfortable right away. Several staff members appeared to notice us, and I observed one gentleman wearing a badge walk past us multiple times, but no one acknowledged or welcomed us. The atmosphere also felt different from what we had seen represented online, and we quickly began to feel uncomfortable. Between the lack of greeting, the cold stares, and the overall unwelcoming feeling, we decided to leave before the service even began. Even as we were leaving the parking lot, we were cut off, which unfortunately reinforced that this was not the right place for us. We ended up visiting Lifesong Church afterward and had the complete opposite experience. I hope this feedback is received constructively, because for first-time visitors, a simple welcome can make all the difference.
