I have a very complicated and unusual situation with my landlord. Dave helped me sort it out and achieve the result I wanted. He knows SF landlord/tenant law very well (I believe he is on the Rent Board himself) and has tons of real-world experience to bring to your situation. He gave me key information that was essential to my own situation, that I had no idea existed. Dave responds quickly, and does not tack on extra hours as some lawyers do. He is sympathetic but realistic, and collaborates well. I believe he is honest and ethical - certainly his rates are relatively very reasonable. As many sadly know, dealing with housing issues in SF can be incredibly frustrating and difficult. Finding legal help these days can be just as much of a nightmare. Dave was very helpful in my case against my landlord. He considered my financial situation when deciding what he would charge me. His first consultation over the phone was free. He guided me sensibly through the process of working with my landlord. First, he tried to mediate the problems the landlord and I were having by approaching the situation with a very conciliatory tone. However, the landlord, by nature of her nasty personality, was still having none of it, so he became more aggressive as time progressed. He was able to set up a situation and a trail of paperwork showing that we really had gone to every length to make compromises. His letters to the landlord and her indignant lawyer-husband were concise, direct, and fair. Also, Dave let me express my full frustrations about the situation whenever I needed to, and he was able to extrapolate the critical information from what I said. He guided me through to the point where he wrote a demand letter for my security deposit, and then he gave me great advice for making simple, easy, and inexpensive preparations for small claims court (A lawyer isn't allowed in small claims court so he wouldn't have been able to go with me).
