Crown & Anchor is a consolidation of attractions: a hotel, a restaurant (Butch's), a video bar (The Wave Bar), a piano bar (Dive Bar), an art gallery, and several venues focused on the predilections of their patrons, whether it be leather kink (The Vault), cabaret (The Crown Cabaret), or where Jamie W and I went, The Paramount Club, the largest space in the complex replete with two bars. We came to see drag legend Varla Jean Merman in The Errors Tour. Yes, it was a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Taylor Swift and her Eras Tour intertwined with Varla Jean's own career highlights including her off-Broadway musical stint with Leslie Jordan. Purchased VIP tickets to see Tina Burner Show, for the gays. When we got there all VIP tables were full. 3 or four other couples had the same issue. Manger came out to speak with us. We agreed to sit in the last row of chairs if we would be reimbursed the difference. He offered us a free drink. My Husband or myself do not drink alcohol. He then said we could have water. That was just a big insult to the issue at hand. And I told him that I frequently visit the establishment every time I visit Ptown. His reply was I don't know what to Tell you buddy. The one star is directed solely at our experience with Tina Burner--not the establishment itself, where we otherwise had no issues. What should have been an ordinary night was overshadowed by an incredibly hostile and bizarre interaction. Tina repeatedly banged on the bathroom door, berated our group for supposedly taking too long in the only women's restroom, and went so far as to accuse us of "doing coke" and being "visitors." For context, we have had a house in the area for 30 years, so the assumption that we were outsiders was particularly presumptuous. What was most disturbing was the persistence of the antagonism after we had done nothing to provoke it. There is a significant difference between humor and humiliation, and this interaction crossed that line entirely. We left feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and genuinely baffled by the hostility. Whatever the intent may have been, the behavior was unnecessarily confrontational and profoundly unpleasant. A deeply disappointing experience. read more

How often are people hit on for tips by a band playing in a bar exactly? I have been to so many bars with cover bands playing that I lost count. New Orleans, SF, Orlando, the list goes on and on. Not once do I remember the aggressive panhandling tactics exhibited by the band playing Wed. night of "bear week". for example: "we won't play another song unless we get a $100. tip" then take the large brandy sifter out and work the crown both inside and outside the bar several times. The band ended up asking for "somebody should tip us $100. "another 3 or 4 times! This band was really nothing specail, they were just okay. Caught a show at Crown & Anchor (Broadway on the Beach's Disney revue during Family Week) and really loved it. The performances were incredible (and included both the manager and owner singing classic Disney songs). We were really impressed with the show. We ordered a couple drinks as well during the show, which were well made and fairly priced (I had a bloody mary and my partner got a couple rum & cokes). Rather than penalize the owners with shitty one-star rating for things they may not know are occurring, I'll give the food, the show (Varla) the 5 star they deserve, while sharing our bad experiences with certain of their service staff. The daytime host apologized for his obnoxious and unprofessional comments, so we'll skip to the outside bar: 1) Daytime bartender Scott was 100% on point 2) For dinner Mikey was super sweet and great service.. 3)Conversely the angry-at-his-own-life tall guy with the with the clown colored Mohawk-ish cut was RUDE AND JUST AWFUL. "Hey dude! You're in a service industry...get on board or quit!" 4) The server with the insane body and dark complexion...Snippy rude comments don't make you cute.. and they definitely don't earn you more tips. Unfortunately most of the diners/restaurants/shops shut down around this time. Finally we found a parking spot and just started walking right. We came across this place. I didn't smell anything nor did I see a lot of people coming in and out, but we thought that might be because everything's shut down. We helped us decide on this place is Arman (probably got his name wrong as it has been a while), the outside greeter. He was very welcoming. Obviously we were extremely hungry and focused on our mission to have a bowl of chowder because neither of us noticed that it was a hotel/inn. We ordered a bowl of chowder, deviled eggs with crispy oysters on top, lobster roll and Oyster Po Boy. Amazing deviled eggs. Without a doubt, the fried oysters took this appetizer over the top. Our dining neighbors saw that we ordered this and they added an order. Since they only got one each, they ordered a second order of these. Cheri enjoyed her sandwich. The bun was soft and delicious. The chowder wasn't that great. My lobster roll was ok. Why is this a four star? The greeting and small talk with Arman, quick service and delicious appetizer. The place is located walking distance to everything! The room was clean, very well decorated, the bed was very comfortable, the fireplace and the kitchenette were a plus. The view of the beach was spectacular to say the least. Ricky the concierge couldn't haven't been more accommodating and going above his duty and we were treated like family. Curl the housekeeper make sure that out stay was unforgettable, very attentive to us the whole time. She couldn't not have been any nicest! Craig the operations manager couldn't not be any nicer, making sure that the room was top and the breakfast that he would have every morning was great!! This was my 1st time in P Town and I can't wait to visit during the summer and it is going to be a tradition going in the fall/winter season as well. This review is strictly based on the experience at the restaurant, in particular the Burner Brunch with Kelly Fields. Tina was great, the food and drinks here, not so much. My friend got the griddled banana bread, it was decent. She also had the avocado toast - $18 for avocado, arugula, tomatoes, radish, and a dressing. Over salted to the max. I had the hangover bowl which I had high hopes for- cheesy grits, poached egg, onions, short rib, crispy onions on top. Literally the ONLY taste in this dish was pure salt. $26 for a bowl of salt, not to mention it also had eggshells in it too. I understand Ptown is a tourist destination, I was one, however if I'm going out to eat on vacation I shouldn't be paying almost $30 for a meal at brunch that sucks. Especially when this chef is highly regarded. The server was nice but it's easy to tell that they spend most of their time chatting with locals and bigger groups. Ate here twice during our last visit and really enjoyed ourselves both times. The first meal - dinner - was a smidge better than the lunch a few days later - primarily based on the comparison of the burger consumed by a friend of mine at both meals. The first night the food quality was rather good although it took a very long time for it to arrive. We loved our server; he was funny, engaging, courteous and efficient. The food? Scallop ceviche was delicious. Chopped salad (with chicken) was decent - the grilled chicken was flavorful and moist but the salad itself was not the regular chopped salad that I prefer: all chopped ingredients mixed together in an easily-scoopable/"shove-able-in-the-pie-hole" format.... and not under-chopped...then laid out prettily in the bowl next to each other. Cod was the big winner and the 2 burgers were reportedly fabulous. Fries were excellent; I stole several. Lunch a couple of days later was just OK. I had the tuna tartare and it was a very small portion of chopped tuna that was mixed with sauce and a bit of spice. It was ok, but I expected sliced ahi tuna pieces. The burger that my friend complained (to me) about was overcooked (but she didn't send it back...and ate most of it!). Brussels sprouts were decent and the bloody mary's were very good. I really liked the owner?/manager? He's from NYC and takes no BS from anyone. Cool guy. Later in the evening, the piano bar is a fun place to go. Sing along to the oldies, show tunes or other contemporary musical pieces. There are 2 theaters attached to the Crown and Anchor as well - all kinds of great shows can be seen there. Horrible customer service!! Do not support this establishment! Jerry provided the worst customer service I have experienced during this pandemic. I understand times are tough, but man.... The rudeness is beyond comprehension. I purchased tickets to a show 2 months ago when we planned our cross country trip to P-town. Of course, delta variant and the crazy outbreak that happened in Ptown over Fourth of July prompted us to cancel our trip in September. I tried to request my ticket be refunded, but alas, times are tough and they decided to be inflexible with the refund. Yes, we get it that the ticket says "no refunds", but guess what... because of COVID flexibility is required. Somehow other businesses like the ferry boat, the airline, AND hotel ALL refunded my $. I hope that $49 was worth the future business from me, my friends, and anyone who reads this. read more

July 2023, we always make it a point to see Bobby Wetherbee when we are in town. He only played on Sunday, normally we had a longer gig, but for some reason his show was only one night. Loved the new setup for the piano bar. Instead of the piano being inside by the bar area, now the piano is set up on the outside large covered patio. The location is great! The staff are very personable. The pool area is a plus! The Crown and Anchor is a entertainment venue with rooms over head. Our room did not have a mini refrigerator but other rooms did have one. The towels are thread bare and need to be replaced. The bathroom lighting was insufficient and glass globes were very dirty. Every morning at 7 a trash truck arrived outside our window to empty the dumpster of glass bottle etc. Very annoying. The stair way carpets are filthy and need a good steam cleaning. Another perfect meal on my last day in Ptown. I wanted a light snack before the 2 hour boat ride so I went with the Caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes. It was amazing, the mozzarella was fresh and the balsamic was excellent. I also got the shrimp cocktail. Went to a poolside show and loved the queens, but not the establishment. We were told when we sat down not to come up to the bar, but that the wait staff would come take our drink order. The waiter walked past us about a dozen times, ignoring me the last couple times as I was trying to flag him down. Finally, halfway through the show when others were on their second round I went to the bar to order and was told that the bar was closing. It was quite frustrating having to protest for my own ability to overpay for weak drinks. Next time I'll try to find a show elsewhere in Ptown. read more

Smack dab in the middle of everything. We had tickets to Lisa Lampanelli and took advantage of the patio for dinner prior. Service was amazing, price somewhat high but quality, imagination and again SERVICE was there. Thanks Ricky for making our night memorable. Seafood delight. Food was not good especially not for the expense. Ordered a soda, Pepsi, and the waiter who had a hard time understand everything brought out soda water. Corrected him and said Pepsi or Coke not soda water and so then he brings out Diet Coke. Explained again what we were trying to order and finally brought it out. Then we get charged $3.50 for the soda water which we never ordered. Also had a 1 year old in our party and brought their meal out 10 minutes after everyone. Anyone who has ever eaten with a toddler knows that was a big mistake. All in all had some Deviled eggs, two cups of soup, and kids Mac and cheese and ended up paying $50. Very disappointing. Went to dinner there before seeing a show. The menu choices were average. I had the chowder which was far from a chowder. It was more like heated cream with some diced potatoes. The romaine in the Caesar salad was saturated with dressing and the croutons were the crunchy Chinese noodles. Drinks were okay, not great. It's a shame that the bartenders have such awful attitudes. I used to think of the video bar as a fun, judgment-free space. Post pandemic, it seems the bartenders rather serve drinks on their terms. This review is based on service, not experience, as we were REALLY looking forward to the Tina Burner show for which I had pre-purchased VIP seats over 2 months ago, in anticipation of being there on a particular day over the course of our vacation. Less than a week before the performance, I received an email stating that "Due to a private party, this show has been cancelled. We are sorry for any inconvenience." That is some next level cruddy customer service!! It's like saying, "we had a better offer so we're un-inviting you. Sorry - not sorry". We have no back-up plan in this small of a window off-season on a Monday night. What's more, I was refunded the cost of the tickets, but not the $8 service charge - insult to injury. Next time you're in P-Town, maybe try a different venue that is more customer service oriented. I've heard the shows are phenomenal, but I'll never know...... read more
