Don't believe the hype. This store is NOT worth a trip to New Bedford…read more It's not because they don't have plenty of vintage clothes -- they do. It's just that 80% of their stock SUCKS. It's cheap and ugly vintage -- it's the stuff no one wants that would be left behind at a garage sale. Think heavy woolen overshirts from the 1950s and 1960s that fit poorly, look bad, and make you sweat, or old ugly polyester suits that were cheap when they were made and still look just as cheap. There are live moths and plenty of moth holes on the clothes here. Compare the price of 1970s blazer in mint condition -- here it's 85 bucks, at Goodwill in Boston, it's 8 bucks. The inventory of this store might be good if you're making a Scorcese period movie or for Halloween, but you're unlikely to wear anything that's here on a day-to-day basis. Most of the clothes here are HEAVY (physically heavy), and the racks are all so stuffed you can't look at anything without practically ripping it out of the rack, and then forget about trying to put it back. It's like the owner is afraid to throw anything away. This store would do much better if it were closer to Boston, or if it was in New York. Then maybe there would be far more turnover, hipper pieces, and fewer moths. If you want to see an exemplary vintage menswear store, check out Crowley Vintage in Brooklyn or Pick n Weight in Berlin. Don't get me wrong, I see what the store owner is trying to do here, and maybe 25 years ago, this was where it was at. But the world -- including the vintage world -- has changed, and this store's inventory is stuck in the past -- and not in a good way.

My pal Tiffani handles the store's social media, keeping its Facebook page and Instagram feed stocked with the most enticing teasers: everything from home decor, to jewelry, to clothing. For me, it was love at first "like." When I visited this past weekend with friends, I knew I'd found in this lovely place a soul mate (an expensive, high maintenance soul mate). The inventory is unfailingly stunning: gorgeous Asha jewelry, Blue Jean candles, vintage Union Jack steamers, luxe fur throws, ridiculously soft cashmere capes, and locally designed, oversized bangles made of braided rope. And even two pieces - a fur tote and a magnifying glass - both boasting seriously grand ivory tusks for handles. One hour in this two-level shop, home to so many beautiful treasures, wasn't enough for us. I don't think a minute passed where at least one of us didn't proclaim our love for some delightful item. Margaret, the owner of D&D, is so welcoming; she chatted with us the entire time. We shared a tin of her lemon drops as we explored the entire space and heard about the many ways she sources her breathtaking selections. It's a small miracle that I was able to walk away with only one item (a vintage gold chain statement necklace), because during my 60 minutes at D&D I easily fell in love, one hundred times over. Locals, rejoice: the store hosts a wine evening on Fridays! Sadly for me, the 45-minute drive from Providence makes it impossible to get there before closing time (sometimes, I think there are guardian angels out there that are saving me from myself). Sip sip sipping, while wallet dip, dip, dipping. What a delightful and dangerous way to end a long work week. Fast forward a year as we visited from out of town and we brought this back as there was an issue with the item. We were told, "Oh that designer went out of business sorry." After taking the item out we were told to take it to a dry cleaner to fix it. Margaret seems generally happy to make a sale and take your money but God forbid if have an issue with a purchase you don't matter. Hearing from a relative that a friend purchased an item here, had an issue with it, and they were ignored I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment. Good customer involves not only treating someone well during a sale but also during follow up and subsequent visits. EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANOTHER PURCHASE. Shame shame shame...

I can (and have ) easily spend hours going through each section browsing through all the different finds . I don't think I've ever walked out of this shop empty handed . I love how often items rotate through the store . You can always find something you weren't even looking for . Or the item you were looking for ! The check out clerks are kind and helpful . You are able to drop off larger or multiple finds at the front and they will wrap it for you when you are ready for check out ( so you don't have to carry it all through the store ) . They are also very patient when having to unlock one of the cases. The downstairs area offers bigger furniture pieces , more booths , and plenty of books . They recently added more of a coffee shop ( or how we like to call it boyfriend drop off center ) with chairs , books , chess, and other activities as another way to pass the time . They have food , baked goods , ice cream and drink options. Today I had the Chai which was a little too sweet for me ( it's a powder mix ) don't think I'll order that again... I've had their iced lattes before and those are very good . The affogato was incredible again on the sweet side but it balances well with the espresso. I can't recommend this place enough and I love bringing others along for the treasure hunt . You can find so many interesting and affordable pieces or even high end quality finds . This is a really adorable little family-owned furniture store which I have checked out on two occasions now - the most recent time with Barbie when I brought her to the Portuguese Mecca of Fall River. It definitely has that Latin feel to it and they have some great furnishings and cool stuff for the house, says Bae, and Barbie even ended up grabbing herself something. It's not too expensive and it's unlike anything else you'll find anywhere else. Service was nice as well and didn't seem judgy even though we were from out of town and look nothing like their usual customers.
