I switched away from Crown Dental Care in recent years due to a change in employer, which resulted in Crown Dental being out of network and no longer having great coverage for services provided. But during my time here, I always found everyone here friendly and attentive. Run by a husband-and-wife team, Dr. Farahmand does the dental exams while his wife serves as the dental hygienist. Equipment here is very new, and they even have personal tv monitors directly in front of you to watch shows on during your appointment. Only small gripe I had initially was after my first appointment when they got my address mixed up in their system and put in my former dentist's address in as my own. Imagine my surprised when I received a confused call one day from my former dentist informing me that Crown Dental sent them my dental bill. read more

My experience was that Crown runs like a sales office where unneeded dental procedures are continually recommended to you. I regret having chosen this office for my dental care last year and trusted the advice given too many times. I've been coming to Crown Dental for almost four years now. Even though I've moved away from El Cerrito, I still make a thirty minute drive to get here. Dr. Farahmand, Cristina, Marlene, and the rest of the staff have taken care of me since. I've gotten two extractions, two fillings, deep cleaning, and regular cleaning here. All have been a great experience. When I first came here, I was very insecure about my teeth, but the staff here have never made me feel bad about my teeth condition. Now I can say that I am proud of my smile and have been maintaining it ever since. Dr. Farahmand is kind, compassionate, efficient and trustworthy. He always ensures that I am comfortable during my procedures, and always check-ins on me during the process. He is never in a rush to get the work done, but he is very efficient. I wholeheartedly trust him with my dental procedures. When I had a missing teeth, he was actually the one to recommend I get braces to fix it. He didn't push for me to get tooth implant, but provided a different solution that was more cost-effective and a better, less intrusive. Cristina (Dr. Farahmand's wife) is a dental hygenist and helps out at the front. She is very personal and makes you feel like family. I really appreciate the care that's provided on each visit. As someone who has really bad dental anxiety which causes me to not want to be proactive with my dental needs I'm always treated with respect and no shame. Today I had a filling come loose and being able to come in on an emergency visit was a relief. I was nervous about my visit because of my neglect but I was in an out with my new filling in an hour. I'm not excited for my future visit next month but I know I'll be in good hands as always. Update - Crown Dental El Cerrito on San Pablo Ave - My husband and I picked this practice because it was in the same building as our apartment, and accepted our insurance at the time. After two root canals, two crowns, four fillings, thousands of dollars spent, and still more cavity prognoses, I seriously question the ethics of this practice. Both my husband and I recently went to a different reputable dentist with more advanced radiographs for a second opinion, and although Crown Dental claimed we each had additional cavities that urgently needed to be filled and decaying gums that required ongoing deep cleaning, this dentist could find nothing wrong. I would also like to point out that this new practice is forthright and honest regarding any costs involved with service, a common courtesy Crown Dental never seemed to provide accurately. They still owe my husband money after promising a FULL refund of our last appointment (they failed to inform us prior to the appointment that they had fallen "Out of Network" with Delta Dental) Whenever I came in for an appointment at Crown Dental, Doctor Farahmand made me feel ashamed for the supposedly poor quality of my teeth and terrified that if I didn't pony up more money for the next procedure, my teeth would fall out. This practice uses scare tactics that exploit patients' lack of knowledge; withhold essential information, especially concerning billing, pushing people to consent to unnecessary treatments; and finally, Doctor Farahmand is hyperaggressive and rude any time he is questioned about a prognosis. read more

Crown Dental Care is a wonderful, small, zfamily oriented practice. There is no waiting when you show up for your scheduled appointment, and everyone there is friendly and attentive to the needs of patients. Be aware though, that unlike my previous provider, this office does not bill for services. They ask that charges are paid on the day of the appointment. Also, they require 48 hr. notification for cancellations. "Cancelations of less than 48hrs carry a potential fee of $65." I'm a relatively new patient, but so far, I am quite pleased with Crown Dental. read more

Could have been better. The exam room was quite shabby and did not inspire order or cleanliness: supply boxes in the exam room, nitrous tanks on display and half covered with plastic, dated yellow lighting. I came in toward the end of the day on a weekend. The staff was probably tired and ready to go home. Surely it must be sanitized but the mouthpiece for xrays looked very chewed up and not covered with a plastic dam. Dentists' instruments were openly displayed in their racks chair-side and looked rather intimidating. "Dr. Mario" was kind, competent and addressed my dental needs comprehensively. However his assistants seemed too busy to help the doctor to adjust the headrest or take notes. My doctor at the time does not appear on the website. I reflected and immediately changed to doctors down the street to fulfill my dental needs. Each dental facility charges different prices but when I got the itemized bill and the prices seemed high for the quality of the office and for the location. Thank you for hearing me. Dr. Bardia and his entire staff were life savers. My mom was visiting from overseas for 4 months and one day she ate something that broke one of her molars. Everyone knows how uncomfortable this is, yet alone being in a different country without the dentist you trust. Dr. Bardia was extremely helpful. Not only did he fix the issue, but he was very proffesional and did an amazing job. He had a quick response and was able to accomodate us quickly in contrast with other offices in the area. Best Dentist in the Bay Area! Dr. Farahmand and his staff all extremely professional and friendly. My husband and I have been going to Crown Dental, formerly known as Albany Dental Care, for a few years now. We even switched our new insurance policy so we could continue to go to Dr. Farahmand. The new office exceeds most dental offices in El Cerrito or Albany by far. It is state of the art, with flat screens in each chair so your routine cleaning is a comfortable experience. It is almost like an upscale spa like the other Yelper reviewed, you can get a mini massage treatment to your hands as you get a procedure. Dr. Farahmand, a very soft spoken and kindhearted dentist, is so talented and caring. He even continues to teach a class at UOP with his busy schedule. When my husband wanted to look into getting veneers because he has horrible teeth, Dr. Farahmand discouraged the procedure because he wanted my husband to first correct the overall health of teeth. How many doctors do you know would elect to not make a ton of money on veneers than to do corrective work? It just goes to show what type of character, moral and pride the doctor displays which make us so proud to be one of his patients. Crown Dental Care is fantastic. I switched to them recently after growing tired of my previous dentist's resistance to change. Crown has no such compunction; digital x-rays and 3D CNC crowns while you wait, intra-oral cameras, and other things I'd expect from 21st century dentistry. On top of this technology is a fantastic staff and two excellent dentists. Dr. Farahman and Dr. Wu are both fine doctors with both skill and manner. Marlene and Nadia up front are office wizards who have juggled to get me in on the spot when I really needed it. I've been going to Crown Dental for about nine years, and they are definitely the best dental office I have ever been to. I'm really happy they take our insurance! A week ago I got my first crown, and I was very apprehensive about the procedure. It turned out I didn't need to be; which I should have known, given how professional and state of the art Crown Dental's practice is. Dr. Farahmand really had an artist's touch in this case. He 3D printed the crown during my appointment, and it fit perfectly. My pain during and after the procedure was surprisingly minor. I've waited a long time to write this review, honestly because I don't want it to be any harder to get an appointment. But Dr. Farahmand and his team have done the impossible; I no longer dread going to the dentist. I also really appreciate that they have TVs set up in front of every dental chair; it really helps to distract me. I was all set to write a 5 star review, and if I were reviewing only the excellent dental service from this office, it would in fact be a 5 star review. The reason that I am granting only a single star is because this office has failed me and I have a 'one strike-yer out!' policy with service industries such as dentists - there are so many other dentists to choose from, surely I must be able to find one that will not send me surprise bills for $600 and then promise to email me follow up information and then fail to actually do so. I read the other reviews on here and I was hopeful about going here. I received great dental treatment. It was expensive, and I was prepared for that. I paid over $800 for various fillings and crowns, after insurance. I understand that the amount that I pay is only the office's best estimate of what will not be covered by insurance. That being said, a professional dental office should be able to better predict the amount not covered. I would not be having this issue with a surprise bill for, say, $300 (I would not be happy, but I would not be one-star unhappy). But a surprise bill for $600? That appalled me. I called the office to ask about it. The office assistant bumbled around for several minutes, passed the buck to the insurance company by telling me that they should have sent me a breakdown of the costs (which of course they did, but I don't understand what any of the jargon means), promised to look into the matter further for me and to email me more information. That was four days ago. Apparently no one could find the time to hit the 'send' button for that email. I've mailed my $600 payment in and it will be the last interaction that I will have this office. This is gross incompetence and I do not have room in my life for it. I cannot return to a place that is not capable of charging me correctly in the first place and then lacks the efficiency to properly follow up in the manner in which they promise. If you want great dental care and you don't mind receiving surprise bills for many hundreds of dollars more than you were expecting to pay, then go here. But if you prize a place with the integrity to do what they say that they will do, find yourself a dentist with a capable support staff. read more

I want to preface this review by saying, that I've been to my fair share of dentists. For the following reasons: 1) I've moved around a lot. 2) I had braces. 3) I got wisdom teeth taken out. 4) I've gotten periodontal work done. 5) I get regular cleanings. I've had a wide range of experiences, but I have to say, Dr. Farahmand and his team at Crown Dental top the list. I have generally very healthy teeth, so I've been lucky in that department, but for as long as I can remember, I wanted to feel confident with the contours and color of my smile. I'm a bubbly and cheerful person who is ALWAYS smiling. So I figured, why not invest in porcelain veneers? Cause let's face it, it's not the veneers you're buying, it's the experience of yourself in the way you desire to be that drives people to visit a procedure like this. And you can't really put a price tag on that. As someone who wanted to get this procedure done for a WHILE- basically, since I found out it was possible in junior high, I conducted a LOT of research. I knew that there were certain dentists out there that were acclaimed and accredited and every other word you can think of, and I visited a few of them. But the vibe never felt quite right. Then a couple of years ago, my parents knew I was looking for a good dentist, and they referred me to Dr. Farahmand. His demeanor and connectedness to his work blew me away. I literally felt like I was a part of the family, and he was advising me in the way that anyone who cared about my wellbeing would advise me. I was a patient at Crown Dental for two years, before deciding to go to Dr. Farahmand for my porcelain veneers. He took me through a very thorough process of determining the desired look and feel that I wanted. First there was a wax-up of my new smile (kind of a sneak preview into what my smile would look like), then preparation of my natural teeth for the procedure, temporary veneers (I had them on for about 3 weeks, and they were just as annoying as everyone says), and then after tweaking my smile with Dr. Farahmand to my ideal desired aesthetic, we put on the final veneers. Words cannot describe how happy I was when I saw them! They look so natural, that no one has even asked me about it, but a few people have mentioned since the procedure that I have a great smile! They are the perfect opacity, color, and shape. I'm glad about the result, but even more happy that I followed my gut and went with the dentist that I felt the most comfortable with. I changed insurance and was no longer able to go to my old dentist in Berkeley, so I decided to give my husband's dentist a try. We couldn't be happier! I can only speak to the friendliness of the staff and the thoroughness of the basic care (we've only ever had cleanings done), but both of these are top notch. Dr. Farahmand is kind and thorough, and Cristina (the only dental hygenist we've had so far) is sweet.
