I've been looking for a dentist for myself and my family of 3 that can accommodate our schedule and that is open on Saturday's as those days work best for us. I spent my time reviewing the reviews for this dentistry and really liked what I saw. I reached out to see if I could get some assistance and the receptionist was not helpful at all. Getting assistance from insurance companies is so difficult when one isn't familiar with how insurances work, what they cover, what group, etc. and every other dentistry I've called has been very helpful in letting me know if they can assist or not. The receptions at this facility was short, not helpful and very matter of fact. I asked if she could help me and her response was, "...Like I said..." which was very discouraging. I have been going to Ford Dental for many years, mainly seeing John. A fine and caring dentist who discusses options and refers out to good specialists when needed, casual atmosphere, good staff. Dr. John recently did a fine job repairing a premolar tooth, a chunk of which had broken off a week or so before. I had been worried that what was left of the tooth might not be worth saving, but 2 hrs after arriving I had a beautifully fixed premolar! Very grateful. read more

It has been over 4 years since I moved to San Diego. As crazy as it sounds, I still see Dr. Fords @ Ford Dental on a regular basis. I actually fly from San Diego to the Bay Area at least twice a year just for this! I fly in early morning, rent a car or get an Uber, go to my appointment. After appointment back to the airport, flight home to San Diego. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a decent replacement in San Diego. Not for the lack of trying.... I have tried 3 local dentists so far & each one tried to push unnecessary pricey procedures on me (deep cleanings, fillings for imaginary cavities, replacing perfectly good fillings etc) I know procedures were unnecessary because each new dentist I tried was right after my check up/cleaning at Ford Dental, after getting a clean bill of health. (Yes, I do that on purpose) So disappointing & frustrating. I really hate airports & hope to find someone local I can trust. Until I do, I will keep flying to see Dr. Fords. I have been a patient of this office for decades. My brother & wife also come here. My Mother used to. We are very pleased. I am more familiar with Dr Ford Sr than his son. Part of his charm is that he is folksy. He retains his employees for years. I am referring to current employees & those who reached retirement age. I am comfortable with all of their employees (past & present). I think that says a lot for Dr Ford. Dr Ford is conservative & doesn't build up an expense account just because is is acceptable or standard practice. I have a tooth that "could have been capped" maybe 20 years ago. It is still going strong. That saved me money, time, & pain. That is just one example. It may require capping one day but I doubt it. We used to live blocks from his office. We have moved 15 minutes away where there are closer dentists. I will stick to Dr Ford. read more

I am a long time patient of both/ current Dr. Fords (John and Paul), my husband as well. Both of us have been at this office for 15 years +. I have recently moved hours away, and will continue to make the drive because the dental work is excellent, the office staff and facilities are great, and the billing, reminders, and follow-ups all run smoothly. As another reviewer stated, I feel that both dentists have completed conservatively priced and fair work for us. In my husband's case he has periodontal issues, and they provide excellent deep cleaning for him. I find everyone in the office very personable. I do not have dental fears, but I think these dentists would be very considerate of these issues. They do NOT try to upsell you on unnecessary things like my last dentist who told me I need Invisalign, and 2 bone grafts right away. (Which would have cost my $12,000!) My husband and his family have been going to this family dental practice for at least 25 years. I started seeing Dr. Ford after we got married and I can say, without a doubt, that they are the best dentistry I've been to. Thoughtful, punctual, never sell you on things you don't need, always try to help (my husband had a fall while in college and needed emergency dental care for cracked molars, chipped teeth, and more). This is it. I can finally go to the dentist again. I will have an official dentist and dentist office and six month cleanings and I'll know their names. Dr. Ford's office is a revelation for me, a true come to Jesus. I'll admit it, I was fallen, prejudiced, and on the track to eternal damnation in a toothless senility, brought low by a horrible experience in my twenties at University Dental in Albany, California (a Dr. Needham), a place, thankfully, now closed. Such blatant scam artists and abusers of the medical profession I have never seen .... Anyway - that was it for me. I lost all faith in dentistry and in the last 10 years, I've only gotten two or three cleanings and completely ignored any other recommendations. Yesterday - that all changed. Laura, the "insurance lady", as Dr. Ford calls her, greeted me. She set a superior tone that persisted. She even let me go and on about my real estate whoas and gracefully overlooked insensitive, maybe even snobbish, comments that I made. I felt like I was talking to a friend instantly and she did not disabuse me of this self-centered notion. Then Lolly did my cleaning. AH-MAZING. Again, Lolly's professionalism, knowledge, willingness to entertain my eccentric comments and tact in directing me towards better dental hygiene was truly as good as it gets. Lolly's been in the dental profession for 25 years ... although she looks as though that means she must have started before she was 12 years old ... I believe it. Moreover, neither Lolly or Laura exhibited that sort of saccharine demeanor that one sometimes experiences in dental offices - lordy, I hate that. They were kind and welcoming without being cloying - a tricky balance, well mastered here. Never mind that they were also superbly knowledgeable and efficient. Then came Dr. Ford. Well, he is a character ... but so am I. I immediately set about trying to fix his son up with a friend of mine - didn't phase him. In fact, nothing phased him, not even when I jumped up and left for ten minutes because I'd gotten a troubling butt-dial from my mother who was watching my toddler. I came back and he picked right up without so much as a scolding or an irritated look. He took his time - alternated seamlessly between engaging chit chat and education about my teeth. I really can't overstate my joy in having found this office. And, while I can't say that the cleaning I received after ten years of only have one or two ever few years, was enjoyable - I was sort of in love with my teeth afterwards - still today. I keep looking at the in the mirror and feeling them with my tongue - its like my mouth got a total makeover and massage. Pretty awesome. I went out and bought my fluoride mouth rinse the same night. I mean, its gotta' be good when a dentist office sends you into paroxysms of joy and flattery, right? read more
