My wife and I arrived a day earlier than our Gate1 tour.
We were greeted cordially, and the person at the desk, Pedro, was extremely helpful throughout our 4 days there. Some help was not even related to the hotel, but tourist information that was very helpful.
In addition to Pedro, we had found the dining room staff extremely cordial and helpful. One person in particular, Rita, was very polite, and when she found out my wife was interested particular in Portugal desserts, she gave several types of desserts. My wife took down all the names and told Rita that we'll try as many as we can.
Next morning at breakfast, Rita greeted us and asked if we had tried any of them. My wife got the list of desserts out and told Rita what we had tried. She then made a couple more suggestions. This happened every morning that we were there - so helpful, and polite.
The maître d', Bernice (?) was also very nice and helpful. When we were commenting about some food item, she took us right to it. And she also greeted us warmly every morning thereafter.
I cannot praise the staff and service enough - best on our entire tour!
And the breakfast items were plentiful and enough different assortments and varieties.

Our hotel room was very good. However, one particular item that I did not like was that there were no outlets close to the beds at all. We had to ask the staff for a long extension cord, so I could recharge my camera batteries, as well as keep my laptop plugged in. No problem in getting extension cord at all.
The lights, in particular, could use ceiling lights, as otherwise, the room was a bit dim.
Otherwise, we liked the room, coffee and hot water maker available, lotion, etc.
I would recommend this hotel, as it is reasonably close (walking distance) to some areas, but the bus routes to/from are also close by, read more
