But nay, I was instead greeted by a sweet elderly lady with bright eyes surprised by the sudden intrusion of some random excited Asian dude. "Oh sorry, I'm not really open yet. I came to find out shortly that it was Loren's mom, Grace, and she was definitely a delightful way to end my trip this year. You see, I came to really like this shop last year when I got to extensively talk to both Loren and Shawn during several visits to the shop because they were so fun to banter with. Not only did I receive local tips to the area, I came to really appreciate what they have done here over time through their little business. Their gift bags are printed with Loren's photography and Shawn's paintings! Truly beautiful and different from the other stores in the area. This specific review is for the two story "Acadia Shop" located at 85 Main Street. Because the Acadia Corporation is running many stores in Bar Harbor stuff really starts to look the same from store to store but the Acadia Shop stood out to me because upstairs they had some local art and quality LL Bean gear. I enjoyed looking at the prints and notecards from local artists. Also, on a cold and rainy day it was nice to peruse lots of warm and cozy jackets and zip-ups from LL Bean. Downstairs was more souvenir-y like t-shirts, magnets, signs, candy, etc.

But then it took 20 minutes just to be brought menus, another 15 minutes before anyone came back to take our drink order, and a further 20 minutes after that before our food order was finally taken. The food itself didn't arrive for another 30 minutes after that. By the time we'd eaten and left, it was 9pm -- over two hours for a fairly simple dinner. And after all that, the food was mediocre -- we paid around $50 for it. The one genuine positive was the view of the water, which was stunning. Lubec is a long way out of the way for most people -- the appeal is being the easternmost point in the US, with genuinely lovely scenery. But that's exactly what makes this frustrating: this restaurant knows most visitors are here once, won't be back, and have limited other options nearby. It's hard not to feel like that's being taken advantage of rather than earning the visit. Wouldn't rush back, and if I were traveling through again, I'd look elsewhere.
