Stopped in for lunch and some fresh seafood to take home to cook. After the bad storm of the winter of 2023-2024, they rebuilt. Lunch offerings are not deep fried like many seaside shacks. Steamed and sautéed seem to be the primary options. Clam chowder was creamy and clammy, steamed clams were briny and tasty. This place is a pure seafood gem. It's also doubles as a restaurant upstairs where you can order lobster rolls, soups, etc. I came in with my MIL who was picking up a large preordered amount of clams for our family reunion. They do an amazing job of cleaning the clams. They were also nice enough to bring it out to the car. I only wished they were open on Sundays or else I would have came back to but out the shelves of the many fresh seafood items they had in the cooler. Chipman's Wharf came highly recommended to us by the property manager of the cabin we rented for our vacation. The food service area was closed for the season, but we could still buy fresh seafood to cook for ourselves, which is what we did on our 2nd day in the area. The woman behind the counter was super helpful and guided us through everything they still had available. Unfortunately because of the recent storms, they didn't have any fresh clams and weren't expecting to get any for a while. But we did stock up on 2 dozen oysters, scallops, haddock, and 2 soft-shell lobsters. The entire bill for everything came to a hair over $80 - a bargain for everything we got! That night we feasted on raw oysters and fresh steamed lobster. The next night we made seafood stew with the remaining oysters, the scallops and fish, and a stock made from the lobster remains. It was our first time here. My hubby read some good reviews about the place and decided we needed to check it out while on our road trip. We got there right before it opened and had to wait 30 minutes for their grill to heat up. I ordered a lobster roll and hubby ordered seafood chowder. I was a beautiful day so we went exploring by the waterfront. Inside the store you could buy all kinds of fresh seafood. There were also prepared seafood meals. My lobster roll was one of the best I've ever had. I swear there was an entire lobster in it. The bun was nicely toasted and the lobster meat was lightly seasoned. Fresh lobsters and other seafood at good prices can be found at Chipman's Wharf. They also have prepared foods, drinks and other goodies in the shop that all looked great. There was a lunch menu posted up, but we unfortunately came too late for that. We went with choosing a couple of lobsters by the pound and had them steamed onsite, added a small seafood casserole and picked some local beers to bring back for dinner at the house we were staying at. This place is great. Let's start off with how welcoming the proprietress is. Despite us clearly not being local or even familiar from a previous summer, she was quite forthcoming, answering our many questions about what was local, farmed, etc. And she offered to set aside an order of mussels for us for the next day. No deposit, no nothing. Just our word that we'd be there to pick them up. A really lovely person! The fishcakes, crab cakes, prepared, stuffed sole, and soups, are all made fresh on site. Everything that we had was delicious. As of this writing, we haven't yet gone for the lobster, but I'm sure we will do that next. Soooo glad to have found this place in Milbridge! We had some difficulty finding a place initially to buy fresh live lobster on our trip to Maine. We were absolutely not disappointed once we found Chipman's Wharf and we returned again during our stay. We loved the owner whose house is right on the property as she was extremely kind and helpful. We tried the fresh live lobster, haddock, crab and oysters and were super pleased with everything. The prices were very reasonable. We were given information about the seafood and even told how to open the oysters and how to cook the lobster. Ordered lobsters to celebrate the New Year. We called the day before to put them on hold. Jason was great guy, easy to talk to and they have a great operation going. Even picked up a coffee mug while we were there. We are from out of state and we're talking to Jason about how in the past we have had lobsters shipped to us for special occasion.
