Stayed at the hotel that shares the space with this restaurant, so it was the natural choice for dinner. We were seated within about 15 minutes of arriving around 6:50pm -- so far so good. But then it took 20 minutes just to be brought menus, another 15 minutes before anyone came back to take our drink order, and a further 20 minutes after that before our food order was finally taken. The food itself didn't arrive for another 30 minutes after that. By the time we'd eaten and left, it was 9pm -- over two hours for a fairly simple dinner. And after all that, the food was mediocre -- we paid around $50 for it. The one genuine positive was the view of the water, which was stunning. Lubec is a long way out of the way for most people -- the appeal is being the easternmost point in the US, with genuinely lovely scenery. But that's exactly what makes this frustrating: this restaurant knows most visitors are here once, won't be back, and have limited other options nearby. It's hard not to feel like that's being taken advantage of rather than earning the visit. Wouldn't rush back, and if I were traveling through again, I'd look elsewhere. read more

Nestled just outside of Main Street Lube is Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant. We stopped for Breakfast after our trip around New Brunswick, Canada. Greeted by friendly staff and seated quickly for our large group of 7, we chose to sit inside this rustic room. Breakfast was great! Looks like dinner would be amazing as well. Nice restaurant, friendly staff! Food was not bad...crab cake was all crab meat but cold, fish was overcooked and the staff was very unorganized. We waited over an hour for our food and finally inquired as we noticed others that were sat after us receiving their food. Waitress did apologize and gave a discount, however we were disappointed with the food once it arrived. Lubec doesn't have many restaurants, especially after Labor Day. Mom and I ate here twice, both for dinner. The 1st time, Mom had the steamed clam appetizer (this thing was huge), and the lobster roll. I had the Maine scallops, which were tender, sweet, and well cleaned. The 2nd time, Mom had the fish tacos with onion rings, and I had their burger. Both were very good. read more

After a four-hour drive from Portland, Maine and a multi-day journey from Florida--with barely a real meal since Friday night--I arrived completely exhausted and starving. Unfortunately, what I hoped would be a comforting dinner turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. Welcome to Maine! I ordered the salmon and asked to substitute a side of soup, which I was more than willing to pay extra for. But when my food arrived, I was stunned. The salmon was served on a tiny saucer, and the bowl of soup was literally placed on top of it. The soup was cold, and the handle of the spoon was sticky. I had to ask the server to reheat the soup and replace the spoon--basic things that should never be overlooked. When I finally got around to trying the salmon, it was dry, crusty, and completely flavorless--not even a lemon wedge for garnish. I asked for one and gave it another try, added salt... nothing helped. After one more small bite, I gave up. I asked for a baked potato instead, and when it arrived, I handed the salmon back nearly untouched. The waitress, Hope, didn't ask a single question--not "Was something wrong?" or "Can I get a manager?" No concern, no apology. Just silence and walked away. Please see the attached photo--does that look appetizing to you? It tasted just as bad as it looked. Cold, bland, with charred, inedible edges. That's how my $35+ salmon dinner was presented. I was never asked how my food was. And when the bill came, I was still charged full price, with no acknowledgment of the baked potato (which I think became my side) or the cup of clam chowder. When I brought it up, Hope told me, "Just because you didn't like the salmon doesn't mean you don't have to pay for it." She also insisted that because she had made a special effort to substitute soup--even though it wasn't a listed side--switching to a baked potato meant that was now my side. Her logic made no sense, and her attitude was cold and condescending. I was genuinely stunned. She didn't speak to anyone else like that but me. I honestly didn't say anything else but what I have stated here. Everyone at the table couldn't believe it. It's like she hated me. I understand people have rough days, but there was zero empathy or effort to make things right. After all that travel, hunger, and exhaustion, this meal--and the service--left me completely disheartened. Even if it were the only place open, I wouldn't eat here again. Ever. read more

Well where do I start.. Waited 30mins to get any type of service. Had to go to counter to place order, another 5-8mins for water and silverware. Came here for lunch. Seemed like they were overwhelmed when we got here and were given a table for 4 people. She staff isn't very friendly and honestly seems like we were in accommodating. After going back and forth we finally got a table. We were ushered to our table. It seemed to be busy and the wait staff was overwhelmed. Our waitress was very busy and trying to do her best. If you find yourself in Lubec; especially during more of the off season you are likely to find yourself with limited options for a meal. Odds are quite high this will be the only spot so the most positive thing I can say is enjoy the views while eating. You can get a phenomenal view of the ocean. The service was abysmal to non-existent really. It was hardly busy but we were here for probably an hour and a half to two hours for breakfast. The few interactions were nice enough but extremely slow. We weren't in a rush so did take in the sights but be aware. Food wise was decent; breakfast burrito was large and warm but taste was average. My wife's lobster Benedict was a good amount of lobster for the price but have had far better prepared lobster many places and her cornbeef hash was way too salty. Maybe it was just an off day. First, this is one of the few places we found that served lobster stew, our favorite, and it was excellent. We had lunch here just because we were hungry and it was close but we enjoyed the food so much we returned twice for dinner with our family. Word of warning: the wait to get seated was usually around 30-40 minutes and they appear to be short on wait staff so service is slow. The wait staff were working as fast as they could so I can not be critical of them, but plan on a long leisurely meal. read more

We made a day trip to this far eastern part of the US as part of our vacation to Maine this past October. I had looked online and found a few places for us to eat lunch before heading on to the West Quoddy Lighthouse and so we arrived in Lubec right at noon. We quickly found out that this late in the season most places in Lubec were only open for dinner, including the one we'd found online. A quick perusal of Google maps found Fisherman's Wharf marked as "open for lunch", so we left our car parked where it was and walked through this charming little town to the restaurant. We were quickly seated inside by a window. Our server was friendly and polite and efficient. It looked like they were preparing for a group while we were there, but it didn't seem to affect our service. We both wanted lobster rolls and we were told that there wasn't any lobster ready yet for the day. Apparently we arrived early enough that they hadn't cooked and picked any lobsters yet. That also took out the lobster lobster stew and the lobster salad. So we wound up with: * Clam chowder and a house salad for me. The chowder was rich, thick and full of clams. The salad was HUGE with gorgonzola, dried cranberries, and fresh made croutons. The blueberry balsamic was a touch sweet for me and I should have asked for it on the side. But it was worth trying. * Fried clam platter with onion rings and french fries for my partner. He said that they were quite good, nicely fried, and the onion rings were delicious. He said the fries were a little soggy, and he should have ordered all rings. We both had Lubec Brewery beers to drink and they were good and paired well with the food. We really enjoyed this lucky find and only wish that there had been lobster available for our lunch. read more

If you're staying in Lubec, chances are you'll dine here eventually as it seems to be the only restaurant that's open BLD every day. Parking can be a problem, though not for us as we walked from our room at the Inn. Tasty food, reasonable priced, though they were short-staffed (as are many restaurants these days). Sometimes the servers had to take time to make drinks also. We liked the option of having our seafood pan-seared or fried. On the seafood platter, we opted for pan seared except battered-and-fried clams. Just relax and enjoy the view until your food is served eventually. Came here for birthday lunch and it was quite busy. You have to seat yourselves and we sat outside overlooking the foggy Johnson bay. Service was a little slow due to how busy they were but we didn't mind. Had a limited lunch menu and not a lot of options. But overall enjoyed the food. The sardines were fantastic, broccoli cheese bites were rich and heavy and the seafood chowder was just okay, nothing special. Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant is not the first place one would go to as a plant-based eater; however, sometimes you have to just cross your fingers if you're hungry and nothing else in town is open! Alas, two of us herbivores lucked-out! (If worse comes to worse, there's always French fries and/or onion rings, at most restaurants. Or a Subway nearby....) The small outdoor deck was packed, natch. Hope was great. The communication wasn't there though with her and Lauren. We waited an hour to be sat. Several two tops passed us in line (there were three of us). They placed us at a two top and said they'd immediately move us to a bigger table when it was available just to sit a family of three (a mother and two kids) at the table we were supposed to receive. They also received their water and food before we even received water or ordered our food. Lauren walked past us several times at the bar (we moved once the patrons got up to have room) and told Hope after looking at us that she needed to take care of us. My wife and I stayed three nights at the Inn at the Wharf in Lubec, and this is the restaurant the inn operates on premises. We weren't intending to go there for meals but the guests in the next room recommended it to us and, when we found how few other dining choices there are in Lubec, we decided to give them a try. We're glad we did. The food is truly First Class, and the service is also good, prices not exorbitant either. We had four meals there over the course of our stay. Our first meal there was lunch. I had a bowl of excellent clam chowder plus some of the best fish tacos I've had anywhere. My wife had a hamburger she said was very good, also sweet potato fries that were fine, plus a really good kosher dill pickle. After that substantial lunch, we weren't really up for a big dinner but did return for a light supper. Having sampled my clam chowder at lunch, my wife went for a bowl of her own for supper while I had a bowl of the lobster stew. She had one spoonful of mine and immediately planned to get some for herself at the next opportunity. It really was that good, creamy and rich. The next morning we popped in for breakfast. My wife had french toast made with 9-grain bread with a side of fried potatoes--both excellent she said, and I can vouch for that because she shared. I had the biscuits with sausage gravy (very good) and a side of corned beef hash (ditto). Our final meal was dinner that evening. She had a broiled shrimp entree plus a cup of that lobster stew, loved them both. I had the fried clam dinner. I also ordered cup of the haddock chowder, but they were out so I switched to the clam chowder, which I already knew was good. We sit in the back near the deck . The door is open . Bad idea as mosquitos are pouring in . An older woman with short white hair comes over and takes our order . I think her name is Valerie . She brings my guests drink but not mine . She didn't come back with mine for Quite a while ! 5-10 minutes . I order a bowl of lobster stew with the steamed mussels as my meal . My guest orders a bowl of lobster stew and Shrimp dinner. She asked if we want mussels first and I say no that we would just like it all together as a meal . That must have been where it all went wrong . Well the lobster stew came out first . It had a good Amount of lobster but had absolutely no flavor ! WTH . Seriously heavenly cream with lobster and a pad of butter . No salt no pepper no nothing . I said to my guest I should have brought some old bay with me ! He agreed . At least it was not milk I guess . It was the worst lobster stew I've ever tasted . So then the dinners come out . I've never had steamed mussels , only mussels sautéed in onions , garlic and wine. I did ask prior if they had much flavor she said yes . My guest shrimp were large which was nice as it's hard to find large fried shrimp . The fries were bland . I tried one . My mussels tasted fine until I started to see closed up dead ones . Which can happen but ostensibly chefs cooks look for that and remove them . I put them aside . When Valerie finally decided to come back around I mention to her about the dead unopened mussels and ask if that could have spoiled the others . She blew it off and said it happens . Took the mussels and walked away . No apology . Nothing . So I continue to eat the mussels and one looks like it's decayed in the shell. No im getting concerned . We are done . Have not seen valerie for a while now. Not even for a refill . We are ready for the bill .valerie comes by and we say we are ready for the bill please and she asked how was the meal . She could probably tell by the disgusted look on my face. I showed her the decayed mussel. The kid cleaning off tables looks at me like you shouldn't be talking to Valerie about it like he is waiting for her to chew my head off lol . Valerie walks off. This meal was the biggest disappointment of my vacation . If this place can't cook seafood ... geez .. biggest waist of money on trash food . Long story short is I got sick as hell ! Valerie did nothing about my questions or complaints regarding the mussels . When we went up to pay I asked to speak to the manager . She said they were not there. That there was no one in charge but I could leave my name and number .i said I'd like the contact info of a manager owner . She said she didn't have it . I insisted . She asked a waitress who pulled out her phone and gave me an out of state number to a man named Victor . Who knows if this is the correct info but I'll soon find out ! I will not be returning . If you can't cook seafood in Lubec Maine you should probably close your doors especially if don't have a manager ! Also don't have cooks who don't know about seafood safety and cooking as someone could get very sick or die ! Yes you can die from food poisoning !! . I hate to praise this restaurant because more people will go, meaning the wait times will increase. If you are used to quick service and servers kissing your behind, please find another place to eat. I'm not really sure why there are such low reviews. This is clearly a small town and they did great with their service. Sitting yourself is not a huge deal, maybe just be sure someone knows you walked in, just common sense in my mind. We walked in, saw the girl at the bar, said we'll sit right over here and she was handing us menus in less than 5 minutes. Another point made by another reviewer, if you come to Maine and order anything but local specialties, that's on you if they aren't up to snuff. Order what the area is known for, you won't be disappointed. I'm just sorry I skipped out on the sardines. Also - this was the most food and lowest price on our trip up the coast of New England, so pricing was extremely fair to me. I would pay double to triple for the same food in my hometown area and it wouldn't be nearly as good. Lubec was stop on our New England road trip and being a Wednesday night there weren't many options for dinner. However, that was fine with us as this was the best seafood we had our whole trip up the coast. Hubby got the lobster boil with mussels, the lobster was large and delicious, no butter needed and not rubbery. The mussels were amazing as well. I had the scallops and compared to what I'm used to (inland) they were huge and the serving size was generous. Our waitress was extremely polite and made an excellent dirty gin martini. Also had to try the lobster bisque, this was loaded with lobster and the broth was perfect. However, if you go with local clams, steamed lobster dinner, and blueberry pie a la mode.... you are in for a real treat! It was all just fantastic! One might argue that there is not much to screw up with the clams and critters as they come out of the ocean but the blueberry pie was prepared so well it was to die for. Of note, I requested a lobster heavier than 1 pound and was served two for just $4 more.
