Made reservations at 6 for a group of 8 on a Saturday. If you know lansdowne it has a lot of amazing restaurants. But you need to book a lot more than a day in advance. I was really happy to come try this spot. They have gluten free pizza crust at ($4) extra but from experience, I just rather avoid them (often hard and tasteless) . Have not tried them but they might be great. My partner got the special pizza ($23) came with olive, pepper, onions and pepperoni. He really enjoyed it, they are all individual size. Most people had a slice of two left. Half the table got pizza the other half burgers. For myself I was looking at the wings or the "beat box" salad ($18) and added chicken ($6). It comes with goat cheese, beets yellow and red one, arugula, candied pecan. I did not ask what kind of dressing as the waitress looked busy and It took over 55 min to take the order after we got our drinks. ***but I believe the dressing was sweet onion teriyaki. The salad was good the crunchy pecans and the beets complimented each other. however definitely overpriced. For what I got the chicken was really dry and the piece of chicken were really small. While a convenient restaurant if going to the Cineplex next door, I unfortunately can't say I'd recommend it. It's overpriced for what it is, which is salty and the crust could be crispier. In terms of ambience, it is very much a family-friendly vibe. It's loud with a lot of people. And because there are so many people, the servers were overloaded, distracted, and not terribly attentive. Not their fault, but something to be aware of. It's not suitable for a date night. Came here yesterday, with a reservation at 5:15. We were greeted by a friendly guy who sat us and then our server came over. We had our drinks within 5 minutes, but were waiting on a guest so we asked the server for a few minutes. Despite her serving the tables next to us, and being in the area, we tried to flag her down a few times and she came to check on us at 5:55, a whole THIRTY FIVE minutes. We had to make a movie at 6:30 so we decided to just grab the bill and head out. I still tipped 8% because I don't want a server to have to lose money on tipping out but I feel like leaving a table alone for over half an hour when they haven't ordered yet is kind of weird. In Ottawa for work and my brother took me to the Crust & Crate to show me the area. This was my first time in the Lansdowne area and it was quite impressive with all the dining establishments. I can imagine how crazy the area would be on a RedBlacks game night. The Crust & Crate is a beautiful space with high ceilings, a variety of seating and a clean industrial look. They do have a nice selection of draught beers which is always nice and I was happy they had an IPA on tap. We opted for the 2 pizza's for $25 which was great value. I ordered the Mass Appeal (fresh basil, mozzarella and sauce) with extra basil. The crust was thin crust and the pizza was not bad...just nothing special. There was no issue with the service and our server was pleasant and attentive. It was a positive food experience and happy to recommend Crust & Crate if in the area. read more

My husband and I went here for dinner recently after seeing a movie at the movie theatre next door. Overall, we thought it was pretty good. I had the Chicken and Goat Cheese Salad $16. It was real mixed greens (not an iceberg lettuce piece to be found, hurray!), grilled chicken, goat cheese, avocado, bacon, candied pecans and cherry tomatoes. I asked for the dressing on the side, and it came as requested. It was a buttermilk dressing. It was rich and creamy, so I used only about 1/8th of it and it was perfect. The ingredients were all fresh. I really liked the sweet crunchiness of the pecans. The pecans were a nice contrast to the soft and creamy avocado and goat cheese. I got a decent amount of chicken and while I wasn't stuffed after the salad, I wasn't still hungry like I am after having a "dinner-sized" salad at some places. My husband had the "Bacon in the Sun" Pizza $15. It had tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, ham, bacon, pineapple salsa and jalapeno peppers. I had a slice and it was pretty good. The jalapeno peppers were fresh and had a real spicy kick. The pineapple salsa does contain cilantro (so cilantro haters beware). The pizza tasted like it was cooked in a wood oven, which I love. It didn't have that blistery crust that Neapolitan-style pizza has, but it was still pretty good. Our server was Llew and he was friendly and attentive. The decor was cool. They have wooden crates on the ceiling and their light fixtures are unusual. They have lit up airport codes (YOW, YVR, YUL, etc.) throughout the restaurant. I thought that the decor was neat. Although Crust & Crate is not a chain, it does have that chain feel to it - it's hard to explain but I felt like I was at a chain restaurant. This is not a criticism, just an observation. I took my staff here after walking by several times. The place looks very trendy with great atmosphere. I made a reservation the night before for 10 people and our table was ready for us when we arrived. We went on a Thursday so it was 2 pizzas for $25. The pizzas on their website and menus look so good and I knew before going that I would order the "Not you're Grandmother's Garden" pizza. A vegetable pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and zucchini. We all got pizzas and someone got the mac and cheese and another person tried the duck wings. The duck wings looked really good and I tried the mac and cheese -- I wasn't impressed by it. We ordered beers and there seems to be a great selection of local craft beers. The pizzas came out pretty fast and most of the pizzas came out at the same time. When I saw my pizza my heart sunk and I thought there was a mistake. The cheese on my pizza looked like frozen grated cheese that wasn't completely melted. There was no browning on the cheese and it just looked sad. The vegetables looked and tasted like boiled frozen veggies. There was broccoli, tomatoes, zucchini, and maybe a few sun-dried tomatoes. I was so disappointed. I think my guests enjoyed their pizza a bit more or they were too polite to say otherwise. I didn't really see our waiter again until it was time to order dessert. He was funny and his descriptions of the desserts were great. We ordered the cheese cake/ carrot cake hybrid dessert which was delicious. Everyone loved it. We also ordered the pecan square which was interesting. It seems more like a pile of sugared pecans but I liked it. I won't eat here again. Honestly, pretty much par for the course when it comes to Ottawa pub fare. Overpriced and underwhelming. The Mac & Cheese was not very cheesy at all. Despite it being advertised as having cheese curds, I couldn't detect a single one. The pizza wasn't much better. I got the Taekwondough which sounded great on paper: korean chicken, pork belly, pickled veggies, and a spicy mayo sauce. The dough was flat, dense, and pretty unimpressive. The sauce didn't taste like much. The chicken was dry, as was the pork belly. The pickled veggies added a bit of interest, but the balance was off for the whole pizza and it just didn't really work. My girlfriend got the vegetarian pizza, and it didn't impress any better. The vegetables tasted like boiled frozen veggies, and the rest of the pizza was bland and flavorless. Here's a tip: if you specialize in pizza, nail the dough before you proceed to wow with the toppings. No amount of toppings can make up for what I can best describe as something analogous to a frozen pizza dough. I will say that the service was great. The waiter was very personable and had a great spiel about the desserts which encouraged us to try a few. The carrot cheesecake was pretty good! read more

Came here Sunday afternoon with a group of four. It was pretty empty, with only 3 other tables and no one on the patio. Was seated in a booth, that felt very snug for the four of us. Ordered the mass appeal pizza as well as the armagedon pizza. The mass appeal was a general tomato sauce, cheese and basil pizza, it was tasty. The armagedon pizza had whole roasted garlic, pesto and arugula, which really worked well together. The pizzas are personal size, so I would not recommend sharing. Service was quick and attentive. Atmosphere was OK and food was good. I think it would strive if the restaurant were closer to the entrance of Lansdowne with the rest of the more popular restaurants like Local and Joeys. (I honestly had no idea that there was a crust & crate hidden in Lansdowne). As well as that, the patio would be awesome to sit on for people watching if the tables had umbrellas for some extra shade. I don't think I would be back anytime soon, as I was not blown away. My husband and I stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night without reservation. The only available spot they had was at the bar so we said "why not?!" and we were so happy we did! The bar service was attentive and entertaining! We got to see all the pizzas being freshly made right in front of us! I ordered the Big Crust Pizza and my husband ordered the burger special of the month (April) - Hawaiian inspired teriyaki burger with sweet pineapple. My pizza was soooo delicious! Tasted just like a Big Mac burger pizza!! Best of both worlds!! And my husband said his burger was the one of the best he has ever had! The restaurant has a fun vibe and they have many beers on tap! This place has a great atmosphere with a mix of new and older music and the vibe is just great from the moment you walk in the door. The staff was super friendly and the food is delicious. I had the "You so fancy" with mushrooms and garlic and truffle oil with brie cheese and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. I ordered the thyme lemonade to drink and really enjoyed it also. they don't know how to make pizza here . The 4 topping pizza came with the Toppings separated on their individual slices. One slice with a pile of mushrooms, couldn't tell if there was even chesse or sauce, another with a pile of olives , another with only artichokes an inch high and one with all the meat . Of the two pizzas we ordered - "The Jerk" and "You're Quacking Me Up" - the jerk chicken was not spicy, the pineapple was warm and mushy, and the crust limp. On the duck pizza, the sour cherries were a nice touch, but needed a spice to balance. Overall the pizza was bland and a little dry. Sauce on both was un-flavourful. There was a bottle of spiced oil on the table, but even this had little flavour. The service was fantastic, but the decor was a bit unfocused, ranging between party atmosphere bar to stylish modern/urban Gastropub. went here with some friends and wasn't very happy with it. we first shared the nachos, they were alright but not worth the price. i could make them at home and they would taste the same. me and one of my friends had the quinoa burger. it was so soft that it kept falling apart, i only had half and had no desire to eat the rest. fries weren't crispy by the time we got them. my friend got the 'until we meat again' pizza and really enjoyed it, so maybe i just got the wrong thing. our food was pretty slow to come and it took forever to flag down our waiter for the bill, but he was good at filling our water and was pretty nice. i got the vibe he was in a rush but didn't seem to care much either. i don't think i'm very picky with my food, but this definitely didn't meet my expectations. i might return but try something else, although i don't think the price is worth it. read more

My Husband and I had an AMAZING time at Crust & Crate. I feel as though some people don't pay attention to the little things and are quick to dismiss careful consideration as slow and inattentive service. We started with the fish tacos- which were small, but packed a flavourful punch. A spicy sauce on the bottom and a creamy cooler above the fried fish paired well together, and the cabbagey-crunch topped off the taco nicely. (did I mention the guac?) We then ordered the "Hold the Spaghetti" and the "Mario's Shopping Kart". Both were cooked perfectly. Nice crispy bottom and toppings that didn't overburden the weight of the slices. We watched as the pizza chef expertly chose the each topping ingredient and arranged them all just so. We felt the attention to detail was well worth the price, and the taste of each were delightful. We could see him popping his head down to check the pizzas every minute or so, and occasionally turning them so that every inch was cooked perfectly. HTS was a the heavier of the 2 we ordered, but still did not give you that greasy weighed down feeling we've experienced from other Al Forno pizza joints. The meatballs were sliced well- big enough to give you the meaty kick, butr not overpowering, the red peppers melted in your mouth, and when paired with a bite of ricotta-we loved the HTS. The MSK was stunning. The salt of the prosciutto was tamed by the slight sweetness of the pear, and the balsmaic syrup topped it all off. The arugla was a nice touch, but I found it fell off the pizza pretty easily, but I wasn't going to knock them for greens being greens. You could see that the yeast was dead since it didn't form any bubbles. The servers were very sad. I think something append before I got there. Our server was Troy who was excellent, very attentive but never bothered us. Drinks and food came out very quickly (although that was expected due to us being the only table LOL). We ordered two pizzas and shared them. My girlfriend ordered the Just Brie Yourself pizza which has Brie, chicken, onions, banana peppers, and barbecue sauce drizzled on top, it was delicious. I ordered the Mario's Shopping Cart which has prosciutto, arugula, raw pear, and a balsamic syrup. It was probably the best pizza I've ever had in my life! I was very disappointed with my experience at Crust and Crate. The service was very intermittent and it was difficult to get the attention of wait staff. Appetizer for 4 people was served without side plates and no one came back until our meals were served. Drinks were not replenished in a timely manner. The food was mediocre at best. The nachos barely had any toppings. The quinoa burger turned into a pile of mush and could not be consumed as a burger. The fish tacos were very wet and when served my companion had fish taco juice spilled all over her without an apology. The salads were small and underwhelming. The dessert seemed pre packaged. He placed it infront of the bride and said something weird like " I hope your marriage is as good as my parents " and walked away. He never told us what the dessert was OR THAT IT CONTAINED NUTS!!
