My husband and I went here for dinner recently after seeing a movie at the movie theatre next door. Overall, we thought it was pretty good. I had the Chicken and Goat Cheese Salad $16. It was real mixed greens (not an iceberg lettuce piece to be found, hurray!), grilled chicken, goat cheese, avocado, bacon, candied pecans and cherry tomatoes. I asked for the dressing on the side, and it came as requested. It was a buttermilk dressing. It was rich and creamy, so I used only about 1/8th of it and it was perfect. The ingredients were all fresh. I really liked the sweet crunchiness of the pecans. The pecans were a nice contrast to the soft and creamy avocado and goat cheese. I got a decent amount of chicken and while I wasn't stuffed after the salad, I wasn't still hungry like I am after having a "dinner-sized" salad at some places. My husband had the "Bacon in the Sun" Pizza $15. It had tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, ham, bacon, pineapple salsa and jalapeno peppers. I had a slice and it was pretty good. The jalapeno peppers were fresh and had a real spicy kick. The pineapple salsa does contain cilantro (so cilantro haters beware). The pizza tasted like it was cooked in a wood oven, which I love. It didn't have that blistery crust that Neapolitan-style pizza has, but it was still pretty good. Our server was Llew and he was friendly and attentive. The decor was cool. They have wooden crates on the ceiling and their light fixtures are unusual. They have lit up airport codes (YOW, YVR, YUL, etc.) throughout the restaurant. I thought that the decor was neat. Although Crust & Crate is not a chain, it does have that chain feel to it - it's hard to explain but I felt like I was at a chain restaurant. This is not a criticism, just an observation. It's not listed on their website (at least not at the time of the writing of this review), but their daily specials are as follows: Monday: $5 Margaritas, $5 Drunken Fish Tacos, 1/2 price Nachos Tuesday: 25% off food with Student ID Wednesday: $5 Craft Beer Thursday: $25 for 2 Pizzas Friday: $5 Feature Cocktail (4pm-7pm only) Saturday: $5 Caeser Sunday: No specials :( I'm not at Lansdowne Park all that often, and there are a lot of other restaurants there that I would like to try, but I would definitely not object to returning to Crust & Crate, especially on a Monday for their $5 Margaritas and $5 Drunken Fish Tacos!

I took my staff here after walking by several times. The place looks very trendy with great atmosphere. I made a reservation the night before for 10 people and our table was ready for us when we arrived. We went on a Thursday so it was 2 pizzas for $25. The pizzas on their website and menus look so good and I knew before going that I would order the "Not you're Grandmother's Garden" pizza. A vegetable pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and zucchini. We all got pizzas and someone got the mac and cheese and another person tried the duck wings. The duck wings looked really good and I tried the mac and cheese -- I wasn't impressed by it. We ordered beers and there seems to be a great selection of local craft beers. The pizzas came out pretty fast and most of the pizzas came out at the same time. When I saw my pizza my heart sunk and I thought there was a mistake. The cheese on my pizza looked like frozen grated cheese that wasn't completely melted. There was no browning on the cheese and it just looked sad. The vegetables looked and tasted like boiled frozen veggies. There was broccoli, tomatoes, zucchini, and maybe a few sun-dried tomatoes. I was so disappointed. I think my guests enjoyed their pizza a bit more or they were too polite to say otherwise. I didn't really see our waiter again until it was time to order dessert. He was funny and his descriptions of the desserts were great. We ordered the cheese cake/ carrot cake hybrid dessert which was delicious. Everyone loved it. We also ordered the pecan square which was interesting. It seems more like a pile of sugared pecans but I liked it. I won't eat here again. It's too expensive and the food was too disappointing.

    Taekwondough pizza

Honestly, pretty much par for the course when it comes to Ottawa pub fare. Overpriced and underwhelming. The Mac & Cheese was not very cheesy at all. Despite it being advertised as having cheese curds, I couldn't detect a single one. The pizza wasn't much better. I got the Taekwondough which sounded great on paper: korean chicken, pork belly, pickled veggies, and a spicy mayo sauce. The dough was flat, dense, and pretty unimpressive. The sauce didn't taste like much. The chicken was dry, as was the pork belly. The pickled veggies added a bit of interest, but the balance was off for the whole pizza and it just didn't really work. My girlfriend got the vegetarian pizza, and it didn't impress any better. The vegetables tasted like boiled frozen veggies, and the rest of the pizza was bland and flavorless. Here's a tip: if you specialize in pizza, nail the dough before you proceed to wow with the toppings. No amount of toppings can make up for what I can best describe as something analogous to a frozen pizza dough. I will say that the service was great. The waiter was very personable and had a great spiel about the desserts which encouraged us to try a few. The carrot cheesecake was pretty good!

My husband and I stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night without reservation. The only available spot they had was at the bar so we said "why not?!" and we were so happy we did! The bar service was attentive and entertaining! We got to see all the pizzas being freshly made right in front of us! I ordered the Big Crust Pizza and my husband ordered the burger special of the month (April) - Hawaiian inspired teriyaki burger with sweet pineapple. My pizza was soooo delicious! Tasted just like a Big Mac burger pizza!! Best of both worlds!! And my husband said his burger was the one of the best he has ever had! The restaurant has a fun vibe and they have many beers on tap! If you're not up for sitting at the bar for dinner, I recommend making a reservation. We had such a great time - we can't wait to come back!

The guys in the open kitchen are, at the moment, performing some legitimate sorcery with a plate of grilled salt-roasted carrots laid on a bed of harissa yogurt, zucchini pesto and pistachio. I cannot even describe the flavour of this dish except in superlatives. It was one of the best things I have tasted in years; a stop-me-in-my-tracks, silence -inducing burst of sweet-laced, wood-smoke tinged umami. This is the kind of dish I know I will forever try to recreate but will never come close to. Other stuff on the menu is great too. But while they have them, get the f-ing carrots.

This place is such a gem! We came to have a drink and some eats before walking to Bluesfest. I…read morethink it's meant to be more of a tapas/small plates/shareable food menu. There's a larger patio in the back/side (separated by a wooden fence) with games, but we sat on the front patio and it was a lot more chill. We were a party of four and sat next to the fence. The table and chairs were a bit rickety and it was a pretty tight, so were thankful our server cleared our table often. My husband ordered a tall can of local City Goose California IPA and I ordered the grapefruit Old Fashioned. I thought the Old Fashioned was a nice refreshing change from a regular Old Fashioned, and not too strong. It had Bulleit Bourbon, Dolin vermouth, orange bitters, grapefruit juice, and smoked orange rind. Just what I was looking for on a hot summer day on the patio for someone like me, who isn't into super sugary drinks. Our friends had been a few times before and ordered the house fries. They're not just regular fries - they have honey chili, scallions, and sesame seeds. They were delicious and definitely meant for sharing. Our friends said the last order of fries they had were crispier, but my husband and I thought they were still quite crispy and more sticky than saucy, if that makes sense. They also ordered an off-menu garlic aioli with it, which I would absolutely recommend. What are fries without dip? On our friends' recommendation, my husband ordered the pulled pork croquettes. Even the server said it was one of their most popular menu items and that he wished they made a ton of them to eat like Timbits haha. They had beer-braised pulled pork, chimichurri, topped with house beer BBQ demi glace and scallions. I had a taste (of course), and they really were tasty. Nice and crispy on the outside and much meatier than I expected, with minimal breading, and not too salty. I ordered the salmon ceviche. I was worried that it would be cooked salmon (I've mistakenly made the assumption in the past that it was raw), but our server confirmed that it was true ceviche, with raw salmon that was "cooked" in the acidity of the citrus. It was 7oz of salmon, charred cobbed corn, plantain chips, and charred jalapeno. It also came with thinly sliced red onions and cilantro on top of the salmon, and, to my surprise, a side of mixed salad greens, as well as a citrusy green dressing. The jalapenos weren't spicy at all (no seeds other than one stray), and the corn was tasty, but I cut off the kernels so that it was easier to eat all together. It was the perfect light and refreshing meal for that day, yet still filling and extremely satisfying. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and attentive as well. The door to the indoor part of the restaurant was open, not sure if there's no air conditioning or they just chose not to turn it on. The washroom was clean but a very tight space, even for little ol' me. I would absolutely come back here!

Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.

Parking was easy to find, and one of the girls even walked over from their place. When we entered, we spent a few minutes in the first room, where it appeared walk-ins could purchase beer to takeaway. We waited to see if we needed to be sat by a server, but, nobody came to check on us, so we meandered past the several men purchasing beer to go. When we made our way up the stairs, passing multiple staff, we were abruptly greeted by a staff member who, was not kind to us. She let us know that we made a mistake by not waiting to be seated, and she seemed quite disgruntled that we had made our way this far. We tried to explain that nobody helped us and that men had covered the sign that she referenced to wait to be seated, and we did not see it. She interrupted and did not let us explain. Finally, she took us to a dark table upstairs. We asked to be moved since it was, very dark, and not the vibe. Thankfully, the server that took care of us was kind, but, we were surprised to not be allowed to order flights. It's a brewery... this should be basic for new guests. But, she was great and allowed us to try tastes of brews before we could order. We were at Flora for a relaxing evening, so our group read our books for an hour or two to decompress after a busy week of travel. I ordered the burger, and, was surprised with how many potatoes were on the side. Given that the burger is at $20, I would recommend removing half of the potatoes to drop the price down a few dollars. Everyone in my group would have ordered one if it had been smaller and cheaper. Again, it was strange that they did not offer any coat hanging area, and, the initial experience here really left a bad taste for us. The one Ottawa local who was with us was shocked at the experience, given that she had been here before, and said that she would not return again.
