Crutchfield is one of the few remaining stores with salesman who are knowledgeable of the products they sell. I wish I had gone to talk to them first before blindly buying a receiver at Costco based on reviews only. Biggest mistake since I am not happy with my purchase. Just wanted to share a word of warning, as Crutchfield has a seemingly friendly policy regarding returns. However, if you have as little as three returns in a six year period, even if each unit was clearly defective and properly documented and approved as such by Crutchfield, they will cut you off. In the last six years, I had three returns (all defective, all returned in like new condition in less than a week each time) and today I got a "friendly" call today that I instead shop locally. I asked how that would help me determine if a product was defective and the guy had no answer. He didn't even have the guts to tell me straight that I would no longer be able to order from them, I had to ask him directly. Only then did he admit it. So we were driving through sort of I made a slight detour on my way home, my husband has a 2000 Buick that he recently purchased and well the radio is showing its age and even the CD player didn't work, and the cassette deck was a bit paltry. We walked in Saturday evening, and were warmly greeted the staff is super helpful and helped us find something that was compatible with the car that didn't need a lot of extra pieces to make sure it fit properly. Ok and I was a bit surprised that the new after market radios have apple car play! My car is 10 years old. The price too was really reasonable too and at least now the hubs will have a blue tooth compatible radio which will make life easier for him. While the access to chat help on the website is convenient and the prices are competitive I found their expertise lacking and all I was asking about was connecting a simple turn table to a set of Sonos speakers. After unpacking my delivery I had to go out to Best Buy and pick up a cable that did not come with the products even though I had someone from crutchfield helping me get everything I needed. Also I've spent two days trying to get money back with their price guarantee policy. The first support person refunded me for half of what they said I would receive and the second one begrudgingly refunded me some but not all of what I was told I would receive yesterday. And finally, their 60 day return policy is not all that. I can't figure out how to return my order and they deduct the shipping costs from the return. I have learned my lesson. I'd've happily spent 3X as much, but none of the other brands respected the KNOB. My desire was Wireless Apple CarPlay and a Volume Knob in a double DIN, Jensen CAR723W fit the bill. Yes the radio stations changed randomly, but I simply turned off some settings and it stopped. I cannot believe the detailed research and instructions Crutchfield.com provided, even my Kicker 6 1/2 speakers screwed into the factory screw holes, just as they said! There is nothing negative to say about this company. They are at the top of the list for sales, service and especially support. I have purchased thousands of dollars of equipment from them and they are always my first stop when shopping. Lifetime support is invaluable as I have called years later with questions and gotten help. One of my recent purchases was a Yamaha Aventage receiver. I bought a scratch and dent and even with two techs there remained connectivity issues. The receiver was returned on their dime and swapped with a new. No price adjustment. A purchase if Goldenear One.R loudspeakers went well. With a sale ongoing I called to place the order unfortunately there was only one speaker available. They managed to locate another speaker allowing me to buy before the sale ended. Their knowledge and easy going manner is refreshing. Conversations are clear without language issues. Early this week after about a year's research, I visited the Crutchfield Charlottesville store. We recently downsized from a single-family home to a 2 bedroom condo, and I had very specific requirements for a small, powerful setup that would allow me to get great sound at low volume. I made an appointment with Jake, visited the store (an overnight trip for us) and tried out several of my possible systems using music I knew. I ended up with the KEF LS 50 Wireless II powered speakers and an Audio Technica turntable. I've never heard, much less owned, audio gear as precise, subtle and engaging as these speakers. They fit well in my small space, the controls and software are easy and responsive, and the low volume fidelity is astonishing. I have had good experiences with Crutchfield in the past -- product prices, self-install instructions/assistance, in-shop installations, etc. So I turned to them when I wanted to add Bluetooth and wireless phone charging to a used car I picked up. Little did I know the nightmare that awaited. I arrived for my in-shop installation appointment on time. I had been told to expect up to 2 hours for the install, and I planned on waiting at the site. After sitting there a couple of hours, an installer came out to tell me that one of the parts needed for the installation was being shipped over from a warehouse. I was frustrated, because I had made the appointment several weeks in advance; why did they not already have everything on site waiting for me? Unfortunately, the truck with my part was headed over the mountain to Harrisonburg before coming back to Charlottesville. I was told it would be a few more hours before the part arrived. So I sat there and waited some more. The installer had difficulty figuring out how to configure the part to my car; he had to do a few "trial & error" attempts to get it working. When he was done, he took me back to the shop to show me that the installation was delicate. My phone would charge, but only if it rested in a certain way in the dash cubby. All in all, the installation took 6.5 hours! On my drive home from Crutchfield, I noticed that every single bump in the road, and every turn, caused my phone to disconnect from the charger. It simply wasn't working. The part & installation ran me $250, and it wouldn't work. What's more, I found out that the installer had not fastened down the cover plate over the hole he'd cut in the dash cubby. It was completely loose and just resting there. Nothing to protect the equipment beneath. Not that it mattered. Within a few days, the charging coil in the cubby fell down into the dash. Apparently it was attached with some sticky tape or something, and the adhesion didn't hold. So now I'm left with a hole in my dashboard, a piece of plastic to sit loosely and unattached over the hole, and equipment rattling around inside that doesn't function. Going back to Crutchfield to give them an opportunity to correct the problem is going to take me another 2+ hours of waiting for installation (plus the long drive back and forth to the store). It's another day taking off work. And I have ZERO confidence at this point that the installer knows how to correct the problem without making it worse. The entire experience has been disappointing and unacceptably time-consuming. (I should note that they offered me a $20 discount on the part because of the delayed installation -- less than 10% of the cost, and definitely not an appropriate compensation for my loss of time/work.) I hope to get this situation corrected somehow, and then I hope to never deal with Crutchfield again. read more

My friend recommended this company to me. I am so impressed with their customer service. I wish I remembered the names of the two people who helped me. The first person was an older gentleman, I believe he is the manager of tech support staff. I remember reading his profile and it saying he had over 20 years of experience with the company. The other person I spoke with handled my billing and shipment info. She had a strong southern accent and was so sweet and bubbly. Even all the way across the country, they were able to use their tech abilities to shadow my phone screen and from there, my support specialist's profile popped up. This allowed for seamless guidance while on the phone. The gentleman was so knowledgeable, patient and so gracious. He truly made it his responsibility to make sure I was comfortable and aware while he was tracking my previous order and inputting the new order. So yeah, I had ordered a BT radio from Crutchfield in the Summer for my Benz C-230 and it stopped working a few months ago. I took advantage of the warranty, and as always, expected to pay a restock/shipping fee. They let me know it was on back order and that I'd receive an email once it shipped. Something ended up happening on their end while processing my payment, and the woman who processed my info called me back to let me know I wouldn't have to pay any fees at all! In addition, they allowed me extra time to return my old radio free of charge, when there is usually a fee if it's not returned within a week of the new shipment. I will be a forever customer! Return process is deceptive, car stereo didn't fit so I wanted to return it. Support told me that a small fee would be deducted from my total amount spent to pay for shipping. Honestly I feel like returns should be free, especially if they want to compete with Amazon. Despite offering 2-day delivery to California, it took 6 days to send it back and cost me $12 along with poor tracking via UPS. Now I have to wait another 2 - 5 days to actually get the money back so definitely not a fast process. In another instance I decided to pay more upfront to have a return shipped back faster at a UPS store. Despite paying over $20 for shipping they still do not have my package after 5 days. Double check you have everything you need and consider Amazon first. I ended up ordering the same thing on Amazon and saving over $100. Word of warning - I purchased a stereo, wiring kits, maestro computer, adapters and expensive premium stereo unit. In less than 1 year it malfunctioned. After troubleshooting by phone many times, they finally agreed to repair it. I was without my stereo for a few months. Came to learn that although they confirmed it was received, they lost it! Only reason I found out is because I kept calling each week for status. They sent me a replacement. It's now been less than a year and the same malfunctioning issue occurred. I called support and they were unhelpful. Basically told me that the warranty expired and there is nothing they can do at this point. I was also told by their support that they shouldn't even have discussed troubleshooting with me on it since the warranty is based on the original purchase. I was polite but asked to speak with someone else to further discuss. The manager came on the phone and was flat out rude. He could not care less about customer satisfaction (dissatisfaction in this case) and told me to pound sand. So before you spend your hard earned money at Crutchfield, like I did and pretty much flush over $800 down the toilet.... it might be more worthwhile to visit Best Buy or another company that offers better warranties and actually cares about customer satisfaction and retention. read more

Due to home remodeling, Medical issues and the ramifications of COVID, I have been buying online. I prefer to see and test what I buy. However, I was in need of some upgrades to my audio system. My old, but barely surviving, Polk S6's and PSW 125 were ready for the recycling bin. I have 1083 albums, vinyl for you younger rockers and 3000+ CDs. I had to make a direct purchase, half price!!! from Polk due to the LSiM703's being discontinued and replaced by the RTI Series. I then called Crutchfield and Colby assisted me is purchasing the HTS 12, "a window rattler" he said. I have a very low crawlspace in our large den so, he recommend SVS Wireless Audio Adapters for the Sub and that has saved me over $100 off the install/wiring price from my A/V company. I then ask about RCA cables, I have older audiophile(Sony ES) equipment. Cole Recommended Audioquest cables and the sound out of the existing system is vastly improved. If you need any type of electronics for your home, in my case home theater surround speakers, this is your GO TO business! I got expert advice from their online chat support (Willy) on a Sunday afternoon for needed in-wall rear surround speakers for my existing home theater. He recommended the type, brand and good price/value speaker for my home theater need. Also suggested the standard in-wall speaker brackets and the amount of speaker wire I would need for the job. Ordered the 3 products and had them in hand in 3 days. Watch out for the fake sales, you can generally find most of the items here on Amazon for Less. I did purchase a subwoofer from here at an excellent price (klipsch 120sw $224.99) and then when I went to buy the same item again within 30 days the price was much higher and they wouldn't honor the original sale price. UPDATE 4 days later I received a call from a specialist in customer service (Cal) who was concerned about my review and my experience.(good job Cal!) I've been buying from Crutchfield for years but I'm done now. Their customer service was great until I started dealing with a receiver issue for the last two years. When I kept calling about the issue, all they could say was the unit wasn't supposed to do that with no suggestions to fix it. Their technical support, and Denon, couldn't assist and it was basically a useless receiver until recently when I decided to shop elsewhere. I couldn't even post a negative review of the unit with Crutchfield and it became very frustrating when the only response from Crutchfield was that they were looking into it. Then they stopped responding completely. David from Safe and Sound audio was able to diagnose my issue right away and it was an easy fix. Now everything works great. Three Bad experiences with Crutchfield. I'd rather shoot myself than deal with them again. 1. Bought an interface box that allowed me to play my iPod through my factory radio in my 2001 Silverado. Well, it turned out it was a battery killer. It never occurred to me they would keep this thing powered up with the car was off. I have dual batteries and was replacing them every 12-18 months. I went through about 7 sets of batteries. One good thing was I often got them replaced for free because they died so quickly. Still, I'm out probably somewhere around $600-$750 in batteries in that time. I finally started pulling fuses to figure out what was killing them. It turned out the be the stereo. Suddenly I remembered this freaking little adapter and pulled it out. My batteries last now. 2. Bought a stereo for my Volvo and every time I disconnect the battery to work on the car, i have to reprogram the stereo. There is no internal battery. Crutchfield has no clue how these devices work. They need to be slapped for not doing any product testing and pulling garbage stereo out of their storefront. 3. On Wednesday, I ordered a $1300 system for my Silverado. I was assured it would ship the next day and arrive on Saturday. It was a lie. The sales agent Jane understood I could not wait until Monday. I wanted two things. Everything to arrive at once and everything to arrive no later than Saturday. Oh yes, it will ship tomorrow. It takes two days. You will have it on Saturday. I was debating paying for overnight shipping to receive it on Friday. I'd pay for overnight shipping, but not if they can't get their butts in gear and take two days to ship it. I would have been even more pissed if I paid for overnight shipping and they sat on it for a day. Do they even know that other vendors ship when they say they will ship and provide tracking number right away? Also, the sales girl told me she was a Patriot fan. Honestly, I think she has a prepared speech for every team. She didn't know who they were playing on Sunday. What fan doesn't know who they play next? But that doesn't matter. I just wanted my gear on time. I now have 75 hours of audio books that I wont be able to listen to while driving cross country and back. I will be placing this same order with Amazon and they provide prompt shipping and tracking. I'll have it shipped to my other address. Let me summarize by gesturing at Crutchfield. They are a bunch of clowns not worthy of your consideration. Use their website for research and then go to Amazon and read the reviews there, make your purchase there and pay the sales tax. It's worth it because Amazon has great customer service and an easy return policy. I told Crutchfield to cancel my order. I also left an unfavorable review. Watch and see, Jane won't have any negative reviews, there are none there because they delete those. What good are reviews if the bad ones are deleted. Another reason to choose Amazon. Update: Despite a bunch of messages to Crutchfield and calling them when they opened, I'm told my order had shipped in two packages. I was very specific that I needed all the packages at once. They shipped an installation kit and told me that a harness takes a day to make up and that it would arrive on Saturday. Yet everything else has not shipped and will arrive on Tuesday--which I was pretty clear would not be acceptable. So it won't be hear on Saturday, much less Monday, but into Tuesday. They tell me I need to put a return shipping label on it and return it. I WON"T BE HERE for several months. There is not even a tracking number for the order--it hasn't left yet. I told them four times a shipping lable does no good because I won't be here to return it. Finally, when I realized I would not get these items on time, I checked on Amazon.
