Bluetooth FM transmitters serve as a bridge between older car audio systems that lack connectivity to your phone.

I have a 1999 Lexus SC300. A new stereo headset is about $1000 and I have seriously thought of getting one installed. My son son suggested I try a FM transmitter first. Crutchfield's has always been a reliable source for self-installed audio gear. I found this Scosche bluetooth for $39. Plug-in play done in a minute! Works with Spotify, iTunes, and other apps!

Melding a new component with vintage legacy!

I recall buying my stereo equipment, all but the speakers I think, from Crutchfield sometime in the previous century. Probably 1988 or so. The Sony CD player has a manufactured date of July 1987! Well, the CD player died and when trying to fix it I made matters worse. Shopped around for a basic CD player that would connector my now vintage receiver. Not as easy as I thought it would be... until I checked with Crutchfield. One credit card Bill an two days has me back in business listening to my vintage CDs. The Cambridge Audio unit is fairly basic and is just what I wanted. Great sound too! What would I do without Crutchfield?

I installed a new system and Scosche touchscreen in my Mustang. I was in a little over my head but Crutchfield customer service was there to help with every question that I had and the instructions were pretty good. Install turned out great.

The big hole in the dashboard cubby. Nothing sealed. Nothing secured.

I have had good experiences with Crutchfield in the past -- product prices, self-install instructions/assistance, in-shop installations, etc. So I turned to them when I wanted to add Bluetooth and wireless phone charging to a used car I picked up. Little did I know the nightmare that awaited. I arrived for my in-shop installation appointment on time. I had been told to expect up to 2 hours for the install, and I planned on waiting at the site. After sitting there a couple of hours, an installer came out to tell me that one of the parts needed for the installation was being shipped over from a warehouse. I was frustrated, because I had made the appointment several weeks in advance; why did they not already have everything on site waiting for me? Unfortunately, the truck with my part was headed over the mountain to Harrisonburg before coming back to Charlottesville. I was told it would be a few more hours before the part arrived. So I sat there and waited some more. The installer had difficulty figuring out how to configure the part to my car; he had to do a few "trial & error" attempts to get it working. When he was done, he took me back to the shop to show me that the installation was delicate. My phone would charge, but only if it rested in a certain way in the dash cubby. All in all, the installation took 6.5 hours! On my drive home from Crutchfield, I noticed that every single bump in the road, and every turn, caused my phone to disconnect from the charger. It simply wasn't working. The part & installation ran me $250, and it wouldn't work. What's more, I found out that the installer had not fastened down the cover plate over the hole he'd cut in the dash cubby. It was completely loose and just resting there. Nothing to protect the equipment beneath. Not that it mattered. Within a few days, the charging coil in the cubby fell down into the dash. Apparently it was attached with some sticky tape or something, and the adhesion didn't hold. So now I'm left with a hole in my dashboard, a piece of plastic to sit loosely and unattached over the hole, and equipment rattling around inside that doesn't function. Going back to Crutchfield to give them an opportunity to correct the problem is going to take me another 2+ hours of waiting for installation (plus the long drive back and forth to the store). It's another day taking off work. And I have ZERO confidence at this point that the installer knows how to correct the problem without making it worse. The entire experience has been disappointing and unacceptably time-consuming. (I should note that they offered me a $20 discount on the part because of the delayed installation -- less than 10% of the cost, and definitely not an appropriate compensation for my loss of time/work.) I hope to get this situation corrected somehow, and then I hope to never deal with Crutchfield again.

They were terrific! Although the project did not include my side Blindspot cameras because of a glitch in design with JVC everything came out great! They provided everything I needed, and Gave me a full refund on everything I did not need! The lifetime tech-support ain't bad either...

Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX I picked up. There were multiple kiosks to quickly access product information.

I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with the services provided by Short Circuit Electronics over the past four years. Despite my investment in a comprehensive sound system upgrade--from the alternator to the subwoofers--I ended up spending three times what was necessary, only to be met with a series of unresolved issues. Initially, I upgraded my door and rear deck speakers twice, trying various brands including Alpine Type S, Alpine Type R, and JL C2. Later, I installed DS18 speakers (purchased elsewhere) with separate tweeters, and the improvement was remarkable--they sounded noticeably clearer, crisper, and louder, exactly as I had requested. Despite my inquiries about alternative brands, the installer repeatedly dismissed them by stating, "No, no, they're junk, and you won't be happy with them." Clearly, I made the right choice with DS18 speakers. Why insist on doing things your way when I am the one paying? The four-channel amplifier was replaced after the initial installation. However, when I sought to upgrade the equipment I had purchased, my request was refused with the remark, "You were jamming too hard." Is that not the very purpose of a sound system? Similarly, the subwoofer amplifier was replaced once after installation, and I upgraded my subwoofers and enclosure twice within a year--yet he refused to accept any of my previous purchases for trade-in or buyback. From the outset, he encouraged me to go all out with high-powered equipment, yet I found myself returning to his shop nearly every week with persistent problems. The issues extended even to the alternator. I was not advised that an upgrade would eventually be necessary until problems began to occur. After finally ordering a larger alternator and having it installed, it quickly became damaged. Although it was returned for repairs and reinstalled, I started noticing strange noises. When I returned for assistance, he assured me, "Everything is installed correctly. Your alternator looks fine, and you don't need a second battery." However, the alternator continued to deteriorate; my interior lights dimmed, and even testing the battery revealed inconsistent power. On my next visit, he immediately stated, "You need a new battery," prompting me to replace it--but the issues persisted. Additionally, the head unit (an Alpine) he installed began malfunctioning after a few months. The unit would freeze and emit a buzzing noise, forcing me to turn off the car and restart it. When I showed him a video of the problem, his response was, "I don't know why this is happening." This was particularly disappointing, as he was the only professional working on my car after the dealership. Ultimately, after further evaluation, he then declared, "You need a second battery." I had already raised this concern before, yet by that point my alternator was completely compromised. After installing the second battery, he had the audacity to remark, "Your sub hits deeper and better now." This is simply unacceptable. At that point, I refused to let him work on my car any further. I replaced the alternator elsewhere, and all subsequent issues were resolved. What kind of professional with 25 years of experience treats a customer this way? I will never return to Short Circuit Electronics. Sincerely, Mohammad

The symptoms were very unusual--the screen would go black at certain vehicle speeds and when using the turn signals, while the radio and other functions continued to work. Michael and Jared took the time to listen carefully to the history of the problem and immediately recognized that it could be related to the aftermarket backup camera interface rather than the factory CUE system itself. Within minutes they identified that the camera interface settings had been changed, likely after a battery replacement, and corrected the configuration. The problem was resolved immediately. What impressed me most was that they didn't try to sell me unnecessary parts or repairs. They quickly diagnosed the actual cause, fixed it, and didn't even charge me for their time. Not what they used to be... I really enjoyed purchasing my sound system for my last vehicle through…read morecrutchfield.com. Now it's terrible. They used to guarantee the lowest prices. Found out I paid about 33% more for the speakers than SonicElectonix had them listed for. When I spoke to them about a price match I was told the do price match... but with a big caveat, the only price match if the manufacturer lowered the advertised price. This isn't really a price match. In order to stay in good graces as a dealer they can't sell for more than MAP or manufacturers advertised price. So first downside: no longer the best prices and they are unwilling to match or compete with better pricing. Second issue, I was told my package would arrive by a certain date so I can schedule my install. It was delayed. Asked for some help since I lost the shop deposit and my install spot... Nothing. Second downside to Crutchfield: no customer service Third issue: the forgot the speaker harnesses to use my factory wiring. Cool. One benefit Crutchfield always touts is they hook you up with everything you need... unless you want to plug in your speakers without splicing into overpriced factory wiring harnesses. And here is the final straw: I was delivered used, damaged products and an incomplete order. The amplifier was clearly used, not like open box, but used. The outer box says BEST BUY EXCLUSIVE on it. I checked the date and it's from late 2020 so about 5 years old. The speaker terminals were already stripped out and had burn mounts on the power terminal. This was clearly a used unit that somebody pulled out of their car. The amp smells like cigarettes and is missing the cover. Well... now I'm waiting for the rest of the parts and an amplifier that didn't spend the last half decade under the seat of somebody's Marlboro Mobile. I already had to push out the install date twice and lose two deposits to hold the spot. So they don't even sell quality equipment anymore. Lastly, they sent the wrong speakers. I ordered 6.5" and the sent the 5.25" version. That's an honest mistake but on top of everything they're making me wait while they investigate. So the only usable thing I received are the adapters for the speaker opening. Now I am stuck with gear I can't install or use while they investigate. I was told they should be done in the next couple days and the we can go from there?!?! We can go from there?!?! They sent the wrong stuff and I'm stuck with it until they decide I can send it back or they'll refund it. It's clear that the customer is the LAST on the priority list for these people. Hopefully they get back to me in the next few days so I don't have to start a charge back process. I highly suggest going with another company that values their customers and aren't just skating by because they've been in the industry for so long.
