Convenient, Clean, and Reasonably Priced My wife and I were planning our wedding, and we needed to find a reasonably priced hotel for our guests. After visiting several hotels in the area, we thought the Crystal Gateway Marriott was perfect. The hotel is clean and updated, and staff was very helpful. It's not located inside DC (some may consider this a plus), but just outside in Arlington, VA. There is direct access to the Metro (subway) from the hotel, which makes it convenient to get to DC and National Airport. The bar and lounge are nice, and the brunch buffett was pretty decent. The pricing for this hotel seemed to change constantly with the best rates available online with their web specials. You can get better deals if you book as a large party. Some weekday rates are more expensive b/c of business travelers. Be patient if you're planning an event here. Our event coordinator was difficult to get a hold of at first, but eventually accommodated all of our needs. He even upgraded our room to the penthouse suite with extra amenities. There are actually two Marriotts in Arlington, so don't confuse the Crystal Gateway Marriott with the Crystal City Marriott. It's not a "budget" hotel compared to other options in the area, but it is competitively priced to similar quality hotels. Would recommend this hotel to anybody visiting DC. read more

We were very impressed!!! Having stayed at many different hotels before, this was probably one of the better ones. I guess they must have done some upgrades because the room look a bit new and the carpets were super clean. Anyways, we stayed in a standard double bed room. The size of the room was huge for my standards. There were four of us and we had plenty of room. We were also surprised with a huge flat screen tv!!! WOW!!! The bathrooms were a good size too, very clean and they had BATH AND BODY WORKS toiletries!!! A definite plus!!! We had access to the lounge (you pay a little extra with your room). The lounge deserves "five" stars!!! At happy hour, they have a few hot hor'derves, fresh fruit, cheese, veggies, fresh cookies and brownies or cake! They also have small glass sized sodas and bottled water. Breakfast is awesome too!!! not your typical toast, cereal, and juice. Fresh fruit, bagels, toast, english muffins, pastries, hard boiled eggs, juices, and all the condiments to go with breakfast!!! It was definitely worth it for us (4 people). We saved lots of $$$ for breakfast and happy hour. Check the times for the lounge as sometimes it's open until 11pm for drinks and soda (breakfast and happy hour have specific times) We paid $249 a night (a bit pricey but not bad considering we had access to breakfast and happy hour for the four days we were there). read more

Well organized hotel that had a very nice conference area as well. Metro is connected to the hotel so coming from regan national makes it much easier. Tip of advice if your driving in. Park across the street at the public lot which is half the price compared to the hotel parking itself. read more

This Marriott, while intimidating in it's set up, is one of the best Marriott's I've stayed at. I stayed in one of the northern towers on the 17th floor and just remember the incredible view that I was entreated to of the city's western side. Otherwise, it's boilerplate Marriott - clean rooms, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, and convenient location. I liked that it was so close to everything - the five-sided day care center on the Potomac, Pentagon City Mall, and the restaurants in Crystal City. If you're making a business trip to CC or the Pentagon, this place is worth shelling out the extra $$$ if you can convince your client to pay for it! read more

Had a great time staying here for a few days on a recent visit. It had a metro station basically underneath it - which was nice for getting around town. Rooms were cleaned and new sheets brought up promptly every day. Baths had plenty of hot water and water pressure - always a plus. Staff was super friendly. The room was a good size, even with a king bed in it. It can be a pain to get connected to the Wifi, which you do have to pay for, which is inconvenient. It did not have a mini, which was a bit of a disappointment. Other than those two issues, it was a great place to stay! read more

I stayed here this week. I had a great experience. It's 2 seconds from Reagan Airport so it's super convenient. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Check in was quick and easy. I had to throw my shaving cream away at the airport. I called the front desk and they brought some up to my room within five minutes. Room service was there in 10 minutes. Room was big and clean and had everything I needed. Bathroom was spacious and spotless. I loved the fact they had a free computer and printer at the concierge desk in the lobby. The computer was occupied so the concierge offered to help me. She was super friendly and checked me into my flight and printed my boarding pass for me. Oh, she also got me aisle seat! Turns out her son went to URI so we talked about how much Rhode Island rocks. It's a small world! I'd definitely stay here again when I'm back in the area. read more

I stay here as a business traveler and was sufficiently impressed (believe me, I have stayed in a lot of dumps, so it is nice to be in a room that is even halfway decent). The room was pretty good size and I didn't feel too cramped even with my ridiculous amount of clothing, paperwork, and other work related paraphernalia. the room rate seemed a little on the expensive side (especially for not being in DC proper), but since the bill wasn't coming out of my pocket, who am I to complain. It was a little annoying to pay for Internet access (no free WiFi, except in the lobby), but I guess that is to be expected. I must say, there is VERY easy access from here to public transportation which was nice for someone who has no car, and not much familiarity with Arlington. The last time I stayed at this hotel, it earned a 5-star review. That was about 3 months ago. This time it earned a 1-star review and a promise from me never to return to this property. Why? I'm glad you asked. I'll explain, but first let me give a truthful review about this property. For starters, it sits on top of the Crystal City Metro station, which is one station away from National Airport. It has a really nice lobby, good meeting facilities and is attached to an underground mall that has a drug store, a Starbucks, a Sbarro pizza place...and a host of other shops, restaurants and convenience stores. The room itself was of a nice size and very functional. The king size bed was again, heavenly. Housekeeping was definitely on their game this time around and kept the room clean (even though I didn't) and towels refreshed and plentiful. The water pressure in the room was constant, both in amount of pressure and water temperature. There is a charge for Wi-Fi unless you have Marriott status, however you can obtain a free Wi-Fi signal in the lobby or print your boarding passes for free from the lobby print station. Now, that's where the good things end. On this trip there was a miscommunication between myself, my best friend and the hotel front desk staff. After speaking with the front desk supervisor (who has a slight attitude by the way), the situation got worse with the front desk staff immediately becoming rude towards me. Even contacting hotel management didn't help, as they started being rude and even going as far as spreading lies about me to other members of Marriott management. I have since contacted the Executive Office of Marriott in hopes of a resolution. In the end, you only have one time to screw up, and this location screwed up big. They won't have to worry about me staying at this property again. My recommendation is to go to the Marriott Crystal City (the other Marriott about a block or two away); their staff there (from the last time I was there) are a lot more professional. read more

Day #1: Just arrived. After unpacking and setting things up in my room, hotel construction starts! I tolerated it for 2 hours hoping for the noise to cease - it never did. It was literally like someone running a hammer drill in my room over and over. I checked with staff and they told me it would continue until 5 or 6pm, then start up again at 8:30am the next day; just wonderful. They did move me to a different tower (after giving me that look of disdain for even asking), but informed me that construction was scheduled to start in that area as well, the next day. So, I'm not a happy camper - I am puzzled as to why they would schedule people to be in rooms dominated by construction noise? If you plan to stay here, the rooms are nice and clean. Day #2: Last night I was thinking that maybe I was to harsh on overall rating. The location of this place is great, as it's right near the Crystal Shops. But I hate to report another negative - luke warm at best showers. I say "at best" because I took one last night that was luke warm - but this morning, it's just plan cold - no hot water at all. I came to the Crystal Gateway Marriott for the DC Tattoo convention; actually, I've been here 4 years in a row for the same event. First - let me give props where props are due, I think it's pretty bad ass that a seemingly prissy place like the Marriott is open minded enough to host such a convention. Sadly some people/places still consider tattoos to be taboo and trashy things instead of the art and personal expression they really are. Okay, I'll step off my soapbox now. Anyhow, I have not stayed in this hotel but from my 4 visits here this is what I can tell you: - Parking is a total PITA unless you are a guest and can valet, use the local garages but expect to pay $21.00 after 4 hours. - The place is impeccably clean. - Easy metro access. - Attached to the Crystal City Shops. - Staff is everywhere, cleaning and helping. - Bar service is expensive, but heavily poured. - Ball rooms are well lit and very spacious. - The café on the first floor near the main entrance fills up fast and service can be pretty slow - food is decent though. - Don't rely on the ATM machine to have money in it, bring cash if you need it. - Elevators are available; I have yet to see an escalator work. I generally don't have a reason to stay at a hotel this close to my own house, but from what I hear it's a pretty decent place to crash. read more

I've stayed in gads of Marriotts over the years. First the bed is super comfy. Convenient location. Free wifi in the lobby only is bull. Not paying $13 a day to have wifi in my room. We came here for a trip that was partially paid for by a company so I connected the reservations so not to be locked out of our room. Guess what? Got locked out. Grrrr. Go to front desk, line is out the door. I go to concierge, she is rude. Totally rude. Elevator. Slow really slow. Got stuck going up and down, couldn't get out. read more

Disclaimer: I visited here for a conference I worked, but did not stay in the hotel. Our conference was held in the Capitol tower at the same time another was held in the Arlington tower. This is confusing to folks, and when you park you can choose which side of the garage to go to, so if you're planning a conference, tell people which tower you'll be in ahead of time. The hotel provided our registration desk with a large desk that fit 3 people with essentially full-sized desks with drawers, room to set up full desktop computers and printers, etc. This was a super nice amenity and helpful for storage and productivity. All a spitting distance from the registration desk are escalators to and from the bottom floor, a restaurant entrance, a staffed FedEx Office location with printers and copiers for paid printing, and a storage closet for our staff to store materials, etc. during our time there. There were two large ballrooms that could both hold well over 250-300 behind and to the left of the desk as well. I was surprised to see how modern the space looks. The wallpaper is that typical gray stenciled look that's very 'in' right now, and the chandeliers had these awesome rock/crystal things in them. It would be a totally awesome place for a modern wedding. The food here is the only reason for the one star drop. We had complaints about the coffee, and while breakfast was awesome (mini croissants and pastries, packaged yogurt, granola, all kinds of juices,) the lunch both days was not. Stay away from the salad with the beef or tofu option, and the baked chicken with green beans. It was super salty. The corn chowder with bread baked on top was the only hit-- though it made me sick because it was so oily. This place is also connected to shops, less than a 5 minute cab ride to the airport, and directly on the Metro line. Not too shabby. read more

The good: Rooms are decent and location convenient. The bad: Was charged for an additional room that I cancelled before the check in date. Called the Accounting department multiple times for an hour in order to dispute the bill. 3-7 business days to resolve, and I am on the 6th day. Each year I attend an event here and the discounted parking vouchers provided by the hotel to our group never works, causing a long line of vehicles to bottleneck the next morning with everyone attempting to leave the garage below. read more

This used to be my Marriott of choice because of the very convenient location, through a tunnel from the Shops at 1750 in Crystal City. I could hit the Market Basket for a light bite on the way in/out. However, the service is "meh." They have plenty of friendly staff, but mess it up. I'm a Gold member and they couldn't find me a fridge or a robe (despite multiple requests) - in fact, after many stays there, I find that they consistently fail to personalize service. This all sounds fussy, but in an industry in which comparative advantages must be proven, I was unimpressed. The manager replied to my survey feedback so I give them credit for that, but meanwhile have started staying at the Crystal City Marriott instead, which provides better service. read more

We stayed here as a family of 4 (kid's ages 11 & 13) in a double bed accessible room. Overall it's a nice hotel with room for improvement. I think I will do a pros/cons/neutral post. Pros: Very clean Location, location, location! Connected to crystal city shops and metro! Great concierges! Pretty good food Awesome TV options (Hulu, Netflix, etc) Nicely decorated Friendly and attentive staff, some were amazing like the bell hops and housekeepers Beautiful pool AC worked well Great big windows for lots of light Everything in room was in working order Good amount of elevators, never a long wait, never packed Lots of places to sit and chill in the lobby or bar Cons: Beds! Some of the worst hotel beds ever. The mattress slides off and then the sides are droopy. One bed had a huge hump in the middle, the other only had the floppy sides. Its a whole night of feeling like you are going to fall off. Size and storage - it's pretty clear this hotel is built well for business travelers, not a family of 4 staying for 5 days. It was tight and very minimal storage. But we got creative and made it work. M club - not worth it unless you know you will be making it to breakfast daily. Self serve wine and beer is for a cost. Snacks are barely there. And it isn't on a club level like we are used to. Its on the lobby floor. Lifeguards played with their phones, didn't enforce pool rules Neutral: The pool has a lot of rules including no splashing or jumping. Its a shallow indoor/outdoor pool, about 3-4 feet. I put this in neutral because it's less fun for kids, but more relaxing for adults. But to the con, the lifeguards didn't enforce the rules anyways. I had to get out of the hot tub because kids were climbing on me and the lifeguards and parents wouldn't do anything. M club kicked my 13 year old son out and said he had to be with an adult. Again, business travelers might appreciate that. But he is very well behaved and is used to having breakfast in hotel lounges on his own. It irked me, because I don't want to have to take him down for breakfast on vacation and I know he doesn't cause problems and has done it so many times in so many places without issue. So it bothered me, but I could see how it would be bothersome to business travelers to have kids running around on their own. A tip...in the crystal city shops very close to the hotel (underground) there is a rite aid and a grocery type shop. You can get beer and wine, meds, snacks and small groceries. read more

I stayed here for a conference that was being held in their meeting area. Usually I really love Marriotts but I wasn't that impressed with Crystal Gateway. I will say, if you do not have a rental car and are flying into DCA it is very convienent to travel to the hotel. A van can pick you up and drop you off but the hotel is also only 1 Metro stop away. The people at the front desk were very nice. I will give them that. My room was on the third floor overlooking the pool area. I guess its a better view then a parking lot view? Anyways...the pool is open untl 10. I had an early morning meeting and tried to go to bed early...no such luck. You could hear EVERYTHING that was going on in the pool area. Other then that, I was pretty happy with the room. The bed was comfortable and the room was decent sized. It did have somewhat of a mildew smell though. If you are there for a conference and they serve you lunch I highly suggest you eat out. The lunch was DISGUSTING. There was a bug in my salad, the chicken was disgusting and the cake was like 100 years old. gross. There is no free wi-fi here unless you go and chill in the lobby. So that sucks. When I went to check out they were charging me almost double for the room. So just make sure to have confirmation for what your paid printed out. All in all my stay was fine. Nothing great. Nothing horrible. The location is prime and makes transportation to the airport and city very easy. read more

Stayed here for a few nights while vacationing in DC, and overall, it was a great hotel. I loved the fact that it's connected to the Metro underground, so no need to walk outside in the freezing cold in the winter. The room was very clean and their beds were amazingly comfortable and soft! Staff was nice and their bellhops/valets were very courteous. Stayed there for a week at a time for biz, it's okay, just another marriott. Gym is nice, free weights and rather large pool with good lookin life guard. Food service is slow, mine as well walk to the pentagon mall to dine. Depends on what's going on at the Pentagon or DC convention center, this place can be a zoo, so I always check the convention schedule. I was there during Army show, and the place was crazy with all drunk army dudes (free drinks anyone?) Parking is a little hard and almost impossible to find your car, due to the valet taking all the good spots on higher levels. read more

5 stars from me.....from the time we rolled up till we left, we were treated with courtesy and the staff really went out of their way for us! I was almost in tears from not being able to find a parking spot for my car and the valet was kind as could be, took care of the car, smiled and was so pleasant I was able to relax and left my car in good hands. Our room did not have the extra bed we requested and we were upgraded to a suite for free. The room was beautiful! Spacious and clean, clean, clean. Two tvs...view of the pool. The restaurants were also top notch, very good service. Check in and out were very fast and efficient and the lady at the information desk really went out of her way to be friendly and informative. Other hotels (especially up in NYC) could use a few pointers from this Marriott. Very easy access to the Metro....there is a walkway from the lobby of the hotel. read more

They have very nice rooms here. Also, the hotel is only ONE mile away from the Reagan Airport. The crystal city metro stop is practically underneath the hotel as well. They also provide a shuttle for travel to and from the airport. In addition, if you walk a few blocks up the street you will find a ton of little restaurants to try out. Here is the negative: -NO complimentary breakfast (and you are paying over $200 a night) -NO complimentary internet in the rooms. They have wireless in the lobby only and charge you $13 a day for an internet connection in your room. I love the internet so that was a big let down for me. -Movies in your room also cost around $13. So basically I thought that since I paid that much for a room, there should be some additional perks. However, you would almost be better off finding a Holiday Inn, paying less for your room, and getting more services free of charge. I must say though, my room was pretty quiet. The bed was down a little hall, far from the door. I didn't hear any slamming doors. I did hear some of the traffic since I was facing the street. Also, there was a strange noise coming out of the air vent occasionally. Other than that it was a quiet room, that enabled me to get a decent sleep. read more

As a conference venue, this is terrible. Not enough bathrooms near conference spaces, food is disgusting, meeting rooms and furniture are uncomfortable, and there are literally no trash cans anywhere to be found. Not a single trash can, and no recycling. Apparently you're supposed to put all your trash on catering trays - all of it. So it's kinda gross. Also, one of these Marriott hotels needs to change their name - it's ridiculous to have hotels close to each other with basically the same name. read more

This was a typical Marriott hotel. The high point was the overall customer service. Very nice staff. Only issue I had was the very nice front desk clerk didn't think to tell me how to find my room. Not normally a big deal but I had luggage and there were two separate buildings and I went to the completely wrong one. Fortunately a staff member saw I was lost and directed me to the other side! I had dinner in the bar which was the only option. I had the meatloaf. Not very good. It came with green beans that had no taste. Service was very good though. The room was fine but the fan on high was very very loud. Next time I might spurge and stay at The Ritz. However not totally opposed to staying at this Marriott again. It was fine. Stayed there Mar 31, 2012 - April 6, 2012 The day we arrived there was a massive convention going on, and the place was jampacked with people. We checked in, and found our way to the elevators. After getting off at (what we thought was) the 8th floor, we couldnt seem to find our room. We eventually made it back to the lobby and a nice employee named Sharon noticed we looked a little lost, so she guided us to the elevators again. On the way she asked me what brought us to DC, and I told her we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. After finally locating our room and getting settled, we explored the underground maze of shops and restaurants, as well as found access to the Metro subway. The next day we returned from a long day in the city visiting museums and our room key wouldnt work. We asked the nearby housekeeper for some help and her master key also wouldnt work. Turns out the entire battery had died, and we were stuck in the hallway until maintenance was able to come up and replace it. Shortly after it was fixed, room service delivered a tray filled with cheese, fresh fruit and nuts, and a bottle of wine, in apology for the inconvenience. Less than 2 hours later, room service delivered another tray, this time with chocolate covered strawberries and 2 small bottles of champagne, along with a note from Sharon wishing us a Happy 1st anniversary. Turns out she is the hotel's General Manager! With the great customer service and attentiveness to us, we would definitely choose to stay at this location again. One small negative was that we felt the AC wasnt working 100%. It seemed pretty humid and warmer in the room than it should have been, even with the temperature set at 62 degrees. However, with the generosity and acknowledgement regarding the key lock and our anniversary, we didnt want to seem greedy or like complainers. It wasnt unbearable or anything, and besides we werent in the room most of the day. With regard to getting lost on the elevators, we determined that we had actually got off on the 2nd floor instead of the 8th! Of the 3 elevators in our side of the hotel, that happened to be the "slow" one, and with all the confusion of hundreds of people milling about from the convention, it felt like we had been on the elevator forever, and when the doors finally opened we just assumed we were on the proper floor! :-p One thing that keeps this place from getting a 5-star rating is the WiFi. It's available for free in the lobby areas only. In your room they charged us $12.95 a night, PER device. As long as you can head down to the lobby you should be fine though. Everything you need in one location. Mall below the hotel has a large variety of shops and restaurants, including a nail salon and post office. The metro is also located below the hotel. You don't have to go outside for anything. Front desk staff goes out of their way to assist. And the bed is like heaven. The one drawback to the hotel is that they only have one person at the concierge desk. For a busy hotel such as this, they need at least two. read more

I was born, raised and currently live in the DC metro area... so this is a "local's" perspective. CGM has convenient access to Metro and an underground mall, tends to avoids downtown prices and is only a $15 cab ride from many places in the city. The rooms are clean and we managed to get upgraded to a suite, which are pretty nice, without asking. There is no free wifi in the room (but I think there is in the lobby) and valet is a ripoff at $27/night, but the room rate was half was I found in the city so I'm not complaining too much. read more

Crystal Gateway Marriott is located in Arlington, VA. It is pretty close to DCA and the hotel offers a free shuttle for transportation from DCA to the hotel and back. I stayed here one night and attended a conference here the next day. The hotel lobby is nice. The staff at the front desk were friendly and efficient. The room was adequate and acceptable for the price point. The bed was comfortable and the room was adequately stocked with towels and toiletries. Overall the room was nice but nothing special. The conference rooms were spacious and a comfortable temperate. We had everything we needed except the internet was down most of the morning. This was not my very favorite hotel but I would happily return. read more

My second stay here during the past several months. Ehhhh. It's not terrible, but it's also not great. My stay consisted of five nights for a business trip. Pros: - While outside of the heart of DC, the rates are considerably lower (however, the neighboring hotels, while not as nice, are usually cheaper) - Fairly spacious rooms and bathrooms - A tunnel that connects you to the Metro along with many shops (full service Starbucks, etc) - Free airport shuttle - Friendly and highly accommodating staff - Great air conditioning to stay cool during those hot summer months - Super close to all main DC attractions via the Metro Cons: - Internet is $13/day - Conference areas/ballrooms smell like feet - Rooms are starting to show their age - Terrible in-hotel restaurants (the bar, too) - YUK! - Very strange lobby layout - similar to a labyrinth Other: - Lots of families (tourists) staying here and often large student groups - Lots of government folks from the US and abroad Again - not terrible, but not great. read more

Staff dedication, excellent breakfast, and dated but well maintained rooms summarizes this property. Regular guest at this property. My favorite rooms are 1601 and 1701, as the offer an amazing view! Staff: From check in to check out, the staff at this property are always right at me service amd happy to help. Check in with Lydia (i know im spelling her name wrong) is always awesome. She takes time to welcome you into the property, reviews your room rate and stay info, then asks what else she can do to make your stay awesome. Ive had her send towels, water, toiletries, and even a fruit and cheese try up to my room. ...never a problem! Checkout is unlike any other hotel i have visited. The entire managment team flanks the hallway between the front desk and the exit, greeting you and honestly asking about each guests stay. They really care! The house staff is great as well. Ive had some rooms with problem, and German (service director) personally saw too it that all issues were resolved. What dedication! Rooms: The rooms here are obviously dated, with aged styling and older technology. The rooms are exquisitely clean and maintained. I think you would be hard pressed to find run down items or finishes in these rooms. Additionally, the bedding is wonderfully soft and fresh. The hot water is extremely hot (about 180° F) so be careful whwn you take that early morning shower. Televisions are decent, but the outdated remotes and hotel managed content system is flaky. Food: The breakfast in the restaurant is superb. Whatever you can dream of, they have in ample quantity. Assorted nuts and dried fruits, meats, salmon, cheeses, pastries, cook to order hash and omlets and waffles amd french toast, various sausages, bacon, breads, biscuits, amd much much more. If you stay here, treat yourself to this breakfast. You wont regret it! Dinner items are not as amazing. The steak is bland and usually cooked incorrectly. The burger is good, but the hamburger buns are crusty and seemingly old. The one evening highlight is the house special Krispy Kreme doughnut bread pudding with Jack Daniel's glaze. Its excellent! Overall, this is easily the best choice in crystal city. Try it out and see what you think! read more

I stayed here for a few days for a work conference was generally happy with my stay. Check-in was easy and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. This hotel is confusing though! Even though I felt like I was walking around all day, I still couldn't seem to figure out where everything was. The conference food was not impressive. One of my biggest pet peeves is cold coffee and the coffee was cold the entire time! I cannot handle subpar coffee, so fortunately I took advantage of the Einstein Brothers coffee downstairs. The lunches were not the worst conference food I've had, but I definitely didn't eat much. Also, the conference rooms were freezing! I generally don't get cold, but even I spent most of the day shivering. My actual room was very clean and comfortable though, so no complaints here! read more

This was a decent hotel option for our week in DC. Prices were crazy low all over the city, I'm assuming because no one is really traveling the first week in January, so we got a heck of a deal ($66/night via hotels.com). One thing to note, there are 2 hotels within walking distance of each other named the same. Make sure you go to the right one! We did, but it was confusing, for sure. I picked this one because of its great location (it is literally connected via tunnel to the Crystal City Metro, 1 stop away from Reagan), and because it offered a pool, gym, etc. The bummer with that is that the pool was closed for renovations & it wasn't noted on the hotels.com web site, and the gym was hard to find and far away from our room. There was supposed to be an Einstein bagel in the Lobby, but that was also closed. The check-in process went fairly smoothly, the front desk personnel were very friendly, so that's always a plus. The first room we received just felt wrong when I walked in... it had a very musty/moldy smell, and the heat vent was making a loud banging noise. I was trying to just get over it, but I finally called the front desk & asked them to move us. They brought up new keys & we relocated to a different room. The bed was very comfortable & you couldn't really hear any street noise (save for the occasional ambulance, etc., but being from Chicago this doesn't bother me!)... my only complaint about the room we ended up with was that the bathroom still had a weird sewage-y smell, but maybe after the musty first room I was overly sensitive. I never heard anyone above us or out in the halls, so that's always a plus. The only other negative is the paid wi-fi (free wi-fi only located in the common areas), which I think is crazy these days, that hotels in major cities don't offer free wi-fi. It's definitely a giant complex that can be confusing to navigate, but once you figure out what hallway to walk down and how to get to the Metro, it's pretty simple. I'll look at different hotels for future stays, but this one isn't a bad option if the price is right. read more

Be warned, there is a Crystal City Marriott and a Crystal Gateway Marriott. They are located within TWO BLOCKS of each other. If this hasn't blown your mind away yet, then it should. Don't understand completely why two identical Marriott hotels exist in such close proximity to each other, but there it is and don't be surprised if your cabbie drops you off at the wrong one. If you do book there, tell the driver it is at 1700 not 1900 Jefferson Davis Highway. Don't say you weren't warned.... I've stayed at both of these fine establishments and my preference leans towards the Crystal City one over this one, though both offer the same amenities. There was nothing wrong with my experience here, though they did saddle me with 2 Queen beds, instead of my requested King. Overall, however, the rooms were clean and quiet - and (as with the Crystal City Marriott), they are very close to Reagan Airport, which is a major plus! read more

This is a very fine four star hotel and conference center that really shines in service and support. The rooms are comfortable, the beds are great, the linens are great, it is always clean and everything is perfect all the time. That is the Marriott family of hotels, for you. This one is an upgrade from most, and has that little extra cushiness and comfort that distinguishes a really nice hotel from just a place to stay. The location is fantastic. The Crystal City underground connects to the hotel. The Pentagon is within walking distance, as is a charming row of restaurants in the other direction. The metro is literally adjacent. DC is at your fingertips, here. The standout is the staff that works here. Everyone we dealt with was helpful, capable, and positive.
