We brought up the issue to the lady at check in and she moved us to another room that did look much better, but there was still hair in the bed. The room smelled like smoke, and in our NON smoking room there were cigarette burns in the blanket and the chair in the room. We slept there one of our 5 and immediately checked out in the morning to find a new hotel. They did refund us after many calls with Expedia and the hotel. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. I grew up in the area, aware this motel has been here forever. I don't come back to NJ in the summer months because of the room rates being outrageous. I ended up here at the Crystal Inn because I could get a room under $200 a night. Upon checking in (hint: check in online instead of walking in to save a few more pennies), the young man who greeted me behind the plexiglass was pleasant and polite. The room was clean. The shower was awesome, and the water pressure was strong. The beds are not the softest, but we had a good night's sleep, and the beds are bug free. The TV was large and there was a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Rooms open to the pool area, which has plenty of lounge chairs. The water was crystal clear, and the pool was very well maintained. All in all, well worth the price, especially for the NJ shore area in the summertime!! read more

Don't stay here. REEKED of smoke, and found a bedbug immediately after checking in. Called the front desk 3 times before I got an answer. He came up to check the room, said he couldn't smell anything, flicked the bug away, and was angry that I had unmade the bed because he couldn't rent the room out tonight anymore. He said he's seen beetles but has never seen a bedbug here (despite several other bad reviews online that found bedbugs). He moved me to the last open room he had as it's past 1am. Have no other choice but to stay as I'm traveling with several others and everywhere else nearby is sold out. He was nice enough under the circumstances, but this place is just dirty and disgusting. I have stayed here mutiple times. Prices arent the best especially on the weekends, but i guess it could be worse. The pool looks inviting. Personally the blue carpet outside the room looks outdated. The water pressure in the shower is a good plus. Also, staff did get ice for us which was hospitable. I would say its not a bad place to stay but free breakfast or something would be nice lol ive also met some very nice people here! I would start from the price. The hotel is awful, with cockroaches in rooms. Everything's old and about to fall apart. So, for all these "facilities" they charge extra for kids. We stopped in different cheap hotels and nowhere we were charged for kids. They gave us a room that was totally smoky and impossible to sleep. Then, they changed it but in the new room we found cockroaches. Some of them were dead some alive. Also, everywhere the coffee was complimentary. But this hotel offered to get a cup for $1! It's not about money, it's about the service they provide. Moreover, they hold deposit and to get it back you need to call to a number they give 20 minutes prior to get the refund. We booked for a one night stay, since we were going to the SLIPKNOT concert was Perfect for what we needed. It's a couple owned hotel the Wife and Husband are so nice and very accommodating. The rooms were nicer than expected. My favorite was the pool with great music playing not to loud not to low it was great and made our mini stay very enjoyable. Will come back again! read more

I've been staying at the crystal here and there over the past year to get away and never have I had a problem until now. Me and my boyfriend got a room like normal and I always tell him to check the bed because you dont know who's in the rooms(he didnt do a full sweep like me). I was woken up out of my sleep by f******, BED BUGS and you know what we were told we cant get our money back because we were already there for a few hrs. I'm calling total b.s on that! Will never use them again once you find a few bed bugs you dont know where they can be. Sorry not sorry dont trust it! Well let's start with... The smell. The horrible wretched smell. The room smelt like the aftermath of a late 80's bar, where you could smoke, drink, and defecate all you want. If you don't have any sense of smell at all the room at first glance wasn't that bad, because it didn't have carpet floors (the only save grace of this place) Our room had a kicked in door jam, a piece of wood holding up the bathroom sink, a horrible patch job of where it looked like someone's shoulder got thrown into a wall in the bathroom. Please please please do not subject yourself or anyone you know to this hell hole. We were lucky enough to see a few what could only be considered drug deals go down. During our late night stay on the provided bench outside (because I could not bare to stay in the room longer then needed to) we saw a young lady enter and exit a room an hour later while her "friend" waited outside downstairs. *think what you want, I have my own opinions on what it actually was* Again, please think twice about the cost of staying in this place. I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, recognizing that it's the cheapest option in an expensive area. And I was fully prepared to bestow it with two stars, even after finding a long black hair sprouted within one of my two "clean" towels on that first day. After all, I could always use the other towel. But then, on the second day, even though I asked not to have my room cleaned, the housekeeping came in--and removed the towel I had used (as well as the floor mat), leaving me confronting that alien, black curlicue, mocking me and everyone else who might see it--and it was pretty hard to miss. How did the room service fail to see it...twice? Besides that, Crystal Inn is marginal at best. From a superficial glance, the exterior makes it look like a serviceable budget motel. But the rooms reek of smoke, despite non-smoking signs, suggesting that the management doesn't enforce its own policy (and people know it). Paint peeling from walls. Cracked tile floors. Air conditioning units sputter and buzz. No alarm clock. Rust on the shower curtain rod and most of the bathroom fixtures. The phone didn't work, and it went unanswered when I tried to call. To be fair, the bed was okay and the wifi was functional. The location is pretty solid. If I were feeling gracious, I'd still grant this place a notch above fleabag status. But then that squiggly hair on a white towel just keeps telling me, "You can do better!" So can the Crystal Inn. read more

Paid for room for my client. Checked into hotel explained my client would be coming in later that night from out of state. Keys were taped to front desk with his name on keys. My client comes in from all day train travel at midnight. Clerk would not check him into room. Room that was already paid for with his name on keys. Client was stuck sleeping on the streets for the night. I have dealt with 3 different clerks there. Last one was the so called 24 year old manager. All rude, unhelpful, and just plain unprofessional. We just needed a room for 1 night and this place was very close to where we were going. We had my sister in law & brother in law with us. SIL room the john over flowed. They didn't change their room someone came with a plunger & towels. Holes in the bathroom door plus it was falling apart. The dresser had a broken drawer with no face on it. Loud A/C unit and I mean very loud. Homeless person sleeping outside by the trees. The people in the rooms upstairs from us were up all night making a lot of noise. So we got no sleep. Great time here !! This is our 2nd time coming here. We came down with a large group (Guest 123). Barbara was a frequent guest of this Motel and though she's now passed, her family wanted to have a reunion to celebrate her life. Tina took real good care of us and Chuck...well I love Chuck. He makes sure the pool is always the right temp and right PH balance. He is super helpful!!!. Room: the room was large and cold (brrrr), the fridge wasn't working but they got me a working one within 20 mins, the bathroom is a bit rundown but not a deal breaker for me especially since you can clearly see that renovations are ongoing. Location: In real estate they say location is everything! well this place is centrally located to EVERYTHING !. ps Perkins is right next door and so is Dunkin Donuts in case you want more than just a continental breakfast. All in all we had a great time and already looking forward to the next time. Tina and Chuck offer amazing customer service :). P.. I actually read the reviews about the Crystal Inn in Eatontown NJ on Yelp before booking and assumed all would be well. I have to suspect, now having stayed there, that all the positive reviews were either written by the hotel's owners or were paid for by them. The two rooms we rented overpoweringly and relentlessly reeked from years of stale cigarette smoke (despite the prominently displayed "No Smoking signs"). I'm not a smoker, but cigarettes usually don't really bother me, however this was a hateful, aggressive stench. The threadbare curtains, which probably had remained hanging, uncleaned, since before the proverbial flood were held together one can only assume by years of exhaled tar and nicotine. The bathrooms had sloppy patch jobs covering various holes, chipped and cracked paint in both rooms lent a textural experience I had not anticipated and dots of rust lined almost all the fixtures in the bathrooms. Each room came with a refrigerator and a microwave- the fridge was broken in one room and the other hadn't been cleaned in ages, and both microwaves had CDC level science experiments growing in them. One room had a working phone and a working TV, the other did not. I can only be thankful I didn't bring a black light with me as I suspect the Jackson Pollackesque event we would have experienced might have haunted my nightmares for years. When we complained to the front desk we were dismissively told the hotel was fully booked and there was no place to move us. As it was the start of the summer, other nearby options had no available rooms, so we were stuck for the night. We decided to make the best of things and ventured down to the pool. The pool was clean, nicely appointed and well maintained. We were soon joined by a middle-aged couple. The man proceeded to shamelessly drop his shorts and plop gracelessly into the pool in his underwear. He was joined by his paramour and they obliviously proceeded to rut and grind like greasy feral pigs in the summer heat. If you've ever seen the pool scene in the movie Showgirls, this was kind of like that, except the participants exhibited even less charisma and sensuality than Nomi and Zack. We beat feet quickly, fled to our car and went out for the rest of the day. Despite having aggressively sprayed both rooms and the curtains with a full can of odor neutralizing air freshener and having left the windows open before going out, the stale, chemical infused tobacco reek again punched us in the face as soon as we walked into our rooms. Resigned, we readied for slumber. Normally, when staying in a hotel, I prepare for bed the same as I do at home. Undress, toss my clothes in the hamper, put on comfortable sleepwear, brush my teeth, kiss the kids goodnight and fall asleep to the hum some late-night TV or with a decent book, my wife of twenty years softly kicking me (she's got the jimmy legs) or stealing my covers. This night I slept (fitfully dozed, more like) fully clothed, seated in the room desk chair, turned to face the door. The grunts, groans and the occasional cry (whether it came from Man or beast I shall never know) which reverberated throughout the night set my nerves on edge. My wife in the adjoining room, spent the night in a similar fashion. Our children slept on top of their beds, also fully clothed. The next morning my wife entered with a large green garbage bag. One after another, each kid was instructed to place their clothes in the garbage bag and shower. Knowing most reviewers will try and say at least one nice thing about what they are reviewing, here's my encomium- the Crystal Inn of Eatontown NJ has terrific water pressure. The hot water is simply crap, but the water pressure is fantastic! Exhausted, but exhilarated to be departing, I carried the garbage bag of clothing down to my car. As I started to walk to the trunk with the bag, my wife simply sighed, shook her head and pointed towards the hotel dumpster. I then followed her into the Crystal Inn front office where she proceeded to get as angry as I've ever seen her. When informed of our experience the previous evening the person who identified himself as the Manager simply shrugged his shoulders. "You spent the night" was all he was willing to say. There would be no refund, no discount, no apology, no promise even to address the issues we'd presented so that a future guest might have a better customer experience. Only a dismissive shrug which implied he'd heard the same complaint (or others just like it or some even more vile) a hundred times before and simply couldn't have cared less. Shame on the Management Team of the Crystal Inn in Eatontown NJ for the way they maintain this space. Perhaps one day the Crystal Inn in Eatontown NJ will be bought by a decent chain like Hilton or Marriott, cleaned top to bottom, repaired properly and then will be fit to stay in. Maybe one day, but that day is not today. My advice and my opinion: stay away, stay far, far away! read more

I traveled all the way from Southern California to check out a summer music festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and stayed at the Crystal Inn. It was more reasonably priced than any other hotel I found in the surrounding area so I gave it a try, and I'm so glad I did! On first impression, I LOVED Tina, the lady at the front desk. I believe she was the manager. She was so sweet and welcoming, and even let me check in a little early. The room was nice and clean when I got there. It was a smoking room so there was a bit of a stale smoke smell, but that's to be expected and it didn't bother me although I am a non smoker. The weather was super hot that day and I was happy to see that they already had the AC on low for me so the room wasn't uncomfortable. Standard hotel room, nothing fancy, but the bed was very comfy. I didn't really use the fridge or microwave, but they were available. I did watch the tv, and it got good reception. The hotel was a quick driving distance to everything I needed in the area, and I had a fun time exploring. One DEFINITE highlight of staying here is the swimming pool. The water was super clean and a nice temperature. The guy who takes care of the pool really takes pride in his work. He was out there more than once during my stay balancing the ph and cleaning it. He was really funny and friendly, and kept good music playing by the pool. Next time I am in the area, this is the ONLY place I will stay. I'd give it 10 stars if I could :) read more

First of all let me say that this was the absolutely most filthy disgusting hotel I have ever stepped into. It started with front desk person she was polite and welcoming but not a good first impression in the sense that she looked like she slept in her clothes and put on her lipstick while riding a rollercoaster....apparently our room was made ready for us minutes earlier by housekeeping. We get up to second floor landing outside of rooms and see that floor looks like it has not been vacuumed/cleaned in years. We open door to room and it smells like an old ashtray, floor tiles missing others peeling up. Wall paint missing/peeling in large spots on bedroom walls. Duvet had a very obvious men's boot print on it...it was absolutely gross! We went back to lobby, found same lady sitting outside reception with a group of people( no idea if guests or just friends) hanging out smoking right outside entrance leading to reception. We had to walk through all the smoke to get in, she followed and offered to give us another room. Based on what what he had seen, we decided to leave and find another place..we received a partial refund...NO MATTER HOW THRIFTY YOU ARE DON'T STAY HERE, the savings is definitely not worth it...I would rather sleep in my car! read more

Had a great time here with my friends! The place is dog-friendly and Tina and her husband are very nice people. The rooms were clean and quiet; the pool was beautiful and they happened to have a DJ when we were there. The free breakfast consisted of bananas, several varieties of donuts, two kinds of cereals with milk and coffee. There was also complimentary lemon water and coffee throughout the day. We checked out from the establishment a few minutes ago after many disappointments regarding the quality of their services. I made a booking in this establishment via booking.com website. Before getting our room key we checked-in with the receptionist, while we were checking-in a staff member, probably a switchboard operator or another receptionist went out of the reception desk without any shoes or socks and she had very dirty foot. What a surprise for us, but we did not think a second that the hotel was badly maintain as the staff was. When we entered in our room we discovered a decrepit hotel room. The furniture were old and the room was dusty. We tried to connect ourselves to the Wifi because we were staying in the area for business purpose, but it was not working well. The toilette were blocked before our arrival so as soon as I used them the water did not drain therefore the dirty water stay at the surface even though I tried to unblock the toilette for 5 minutes with the plunger which was surprisingly in the bathroom. We noticed that there was no hot water in the bathroom but only tepid water. On our way to check-out after this experience a resident told us that there was no warm water in the building. When we checked out with the receptionist we have been offered another room however after such a disappointing experience we decided to decline the offer. I contacted the hotel after such a poor experience and got a reply from the guest relation saying that they would refund me for the two nights. A day after that I received another email from the hotel manager saying that they would refund me only one night. They do not know what they are doing in this hotel. This was by-far the WORST hotel experience I've ever had! I waited to write this review in hopes of some type of resolution after speaking with the owner, but that conversation was pointless! To make a long story short... Our toilet overflowed filling the entire restroom with approx. 2 inches of floating feces and urine. We used all of our towels, sheets and blankets in the doorway to attempt to soak up the water. We called the front desk for assistance and received no response forcing us to leave the toilet running to run downstairs for assistance. The rude and unprofessional manager blatantly told us that she isn't cleaning up anyone's sh*t, and the other front desk employee said that she would only clean it if she had cleaning items in her vehicle. We asked for another room in which we were told that they were completely booked. We than asked for additional wash clothes, towels, sheets and blankets since we used all that we had to soak up the feces and water. We were told that they didn't have those either. This left us having to sleep on a bare bed inside of a smelly room, not to mention the toe-nail in the bed that poked me in my 7 month pregnant stomach. I also found a beetle in my previously used wash cloth. I initially asked the manager for a 50% reimbursement for the hotel stay from hell in which she declined. I than asked to speak with the owner in which the manager told me that she would not be willing to speak with me. After calling about 8 times and finally speaking with the owner, I was told that they never had a toilet clog up and overflow on them and we were basically blamed for purposely clogging their toilet. Oh, by the way the people below us had to deal with feces filled water running down their ceiling walls. FYI to the Crystal Inn Eatontown Hotel location... Update your out-of date rooms, replace your non-working refrigerators, assure beds are clean and free of debris from previous guest, teach your staff to be professional, have additional items handy so that you don't run out even if you are fully booked and have a maintenance crew available for emergency purposes. This place is a rip off, don't go! We found this hotel on bringfido.com where it stated it was a $10 fee per dog per day. We called as soon as we made a reservation and it was confirmed that it was a $10 pet fee. When we checked in a few days later, we were told the price went up to $25 per dog per day, even though the bringfido.com still said $10. I asked for the owner, who wasn't there, I left voicemails and send e-mails but the owner would never respond to me. We went through booking.com and they were able to get us $32 back. On to the rooms, we booked 2 rooms. The first room the air conditioner was leaking in the room and there was no outlet cover. The second room, the faucet leaked anytime we used it. We asked for different rooms, but they didn't have any. We were given 2 towels, even though there were 3 of us in the room. I went down and asked for more towels, they said they'd bring it up. 4 hours later, still no towels, then they finally brought them up. These people are a rip off-stay away! read more
