Colt's Neck Inn is amazing! The staff were very friendly and super helpful. The room was very clean and well maintained. The continental breakfast was available at 6:00am on the dot! The location is very convenient and quiet. I was visiting Asbury Park and for the quality of hotel for the price it is unmatched. Let me also mention that it is tremendously dog friendly. There was a note in the room on the complimentary bottles of water that said "We are so happy that you are here." There was a sign in the lobby that mentioned doing all things with kindness. These are good people. Definitely coming back!! read more

Do you like streaming police body cam videos on YouTube? This place has a couple on there (not for good reasons). To start, this review is 2 years late as we stayed there in May of 2024 for a show we attended in Red Bank. Property was used as a state funded shelter to house homeless / welfare recipients. I can't confirm or deny this is still happening in 2026. We checked in, exhausted from our 6 hour drive. At first glance, we were impressed with the hotel's charming decor and couldn't wait to crash. The first impression quickly faded as we headed to our room to the sounds of screams and N bombs billowing through the halls. Great, this was our neighbor. Walked into the room and couldn't even hold a conversation with my wife as the obnoxious voice in the next room was overbearing. Hadn't even been in the hotel 5 minutes and I'm already back at the front desk requesting we be assigned another room. The front desk clerk advised the property was full but assured us she'd speak to our neighbor and tell her to pipe down. Apparently she knew her personally. Did that work? Yes....for exactly 10 minutes. Then it was back to screams, n words and "yo yo yo yo m-fer this m-fer that." Could've sworn Cardi B was in the next room. Demanded our reservation cancel at this point with a full refund. Front desk lady told us she would boot the woman from the property. This is where it gets spicy. Front desk lady and woman are now involved in a full-scale verbal shoot out in the hallway. The clerk then summoned another staff member for assistance. Apparently, they didn't get along and were bickering back and forth in the midst of trying to evict this woman from the hotel. Doesn't get more professional than that. Police were called and finally after a 2-hour song and dance the woman vacated the premises. The police seem to be regular visitors there, the staff highlighted their frequent pop ins. Spoke to the Manager the next day, who seemed empathetic to our experience. We were promised a refund for the eventful night. When we returned home, I emailed him to touch base about it, never to hear back from him again. Moral of the story? Don't let eloquent settings fool you from the ratchet bowels that lie within the walls. read more

The location and the price for 1 night midweek were both perfect for our needs. We had a family occasion about 20 minutes away, there was no problem with our coming back around midnight, and for under $100 (before tax) it was a good deal. First of all, right on Rt. 34 S, not far off the GSP, and plenty of options for dining in the area. "Continental breakfast" was breads, bagels, a few cereals, Activia yogurt, bananas, coffee and tea, OJ. We were happy to have Cheerios, an unsweetened choice. There were a microwave, a mini fridge, and a TV in the room. The shower in the room was good. I found the bed and pillows mildly uncomfortable but it was just the one night and fine. Our room was right around the corner from the reception desk, and right across the hall from the laundry room, with windows open to the parking lot, but aside from 1 very loud conversation in the hallway right after we went to bed, it was quiet enough. The ambiance of the hotel is cute, reminiscent of an older era, nicely decorated. Of course Colt's Neck was (maybe still is) known for horses, hence the name. For me, the highlight was actually the next morning after we checked out - it's barely a half mile from the Central NJ famed Delicious Orchards. We drove back to NYC with more than 5 lbs of fresh autumn apples, a fantastic apple turnover, and a pkg of apple cider donuts! read more

Pros: very cozy aesthetics. Board games and books in the breakfast room are a nice touch. Ample parking. 2 complimentary bottles of water in the room. I appreciated having a microwave and mini fridge in my room, and the window AC unit cooled the room nicely. Cons: the free cookies in the lobby was a jar of broken chips ahoy that guests reach their hands (no tongs or utensils); very unsanitary. It's the same in the breakfast room with the peanut butter, Nutella, etc in self-serve community jars. The water smells like sulfur and left my hands sticky after washing so I used bottled water only to brush my teeth and wash my hands. The bathroom door frame is out of square so the door cannot be closed. Danger: The hotel doors don't lock, at least in room 219. Without a keycard, just a small turn of the handle is evidently all that's needed to gain access, even when the lock is physically "engaged". There's no auto lock and, from the inside, there's only the lock that disengages when the handle is turned (EVEN THE OUTSIDE HANDLE) - ie. there's no safety latch, no deadbolt, absolutely no way to secure the door! This lack of basic safety equipment allowed a random man to enter my room in the early morning hours while I was unclothed, stepping out of the shower, as my young children sat in fear of the tall, heavily tattooed man standing before them in their bed. I immediately gathered my kids and approached the front desk, only getting the clerk's attention by repeated "excuse mes" and "good mornings", and after explaining the situation, I was coldly told, "it's the lady who checked you in last night's fault" as she hardly looked up at me from her scrolling on her phone. I told her, as a solo mom traveler with 2 young kids, it's terrifying to find a strange man INSIDE my hotel room - and so we're clear, this was not housekeeping or an employee; she confirmed it was a random hotel guest! She literally replied "I get it..mom intuition", and without so much as an apology she continued, "you're not supposed to be in that room. My system shows you in 114 so I'm not sure why you were switched to 219". I had no idea what she's talking about, as there was no mention of "switching rooms" when I was given my room key, but I began to ponder the details.. Could there be more to this? I hate to be an alarmist, but in 2025 you never know..safety lapses like this, given hotel regulations and safety codes, don't just happen... I'm a young, 100lb mom traveling solo with 2 young children (5 & 7) who checked in late at night (10:30pm)..the hotel clerk recorded me in room 114 in the system while directing me to 219, a room that I later determine does not have a locking door..advised me to only use the rear entrance & exit as it's "closer to my room" than the main entrance, and in the early hours of the morning, an unidentified MAN walked straight through the door and into my room (seeing me fully NAKED as I jumped out of the out the shower upon hearing the door open), while my 2 small children sat TERRIFIED on the bed in the presence of the heavily tattooed male stranger standing before them. I yelled out and by the grace of God he left without incident, but what if I hadn't caught him coming through the door? Afterward, I saw through the peephole as he fled that he appeared to have an older woman companion waiting further down the hall.. With the hotel having it "on record" that I was in room 114, it's not a stretch to think my children and/or I could have been taken from room 219 with the hotel claiming no knowledge of it. Again, in 2025 you just never really know..but given the facts and circumstances of my experience, it really isn't a stretch to suggest this may have been more than an oversight of safety equipment and record keeping.. I immediately collected my things and checked out as quickly as possible, focusing on getting my kids to a safe place ASAP. I requested a refund but conveniently, the manager wasn't there, just the still-on-her-phone front desk clerk, who advised my travel agent needs to contact the hotel as my reservation was for an additional night. A day later, I learn from my travel agent the hotel is REFUSING TO REFUND ME! They returned my prepayment amount for the additional night I didn't stay since I checked out, but are still charging me for placing my children and me in danger, for having my bare body exposed to a strange man, and for failing to provide basic safety! For years I've traveled as a solo parent with my 2 young kids, taking trips numerous times each year; I thoroughly vet our accommodations and ensure every safety precaution is taken, but you can't prepare for a situation like this! I've filed a police report and strongly urge caution to all parents traveling with young children. read more

Let's start with the good. Quick and friendly check in. There is a keurig coffee machine adjacent to the front desk 24/7 (I love my coffee) Upon walking into my room I was very pleased with a king size bed and hardwood floors. I had my puppy with me so there were no worries of potential accidents on a rug. Each morning breakfast is provided, Bagels, toast, yogurt, cereal, bananas/-apples. Now on to the bad: Walls are thin, you can clearly hear conversations. I was woken up each night with whoever was on the floor above me so I recommend requesting the top floor (there are only 2) I had to call the front desk at 1am to complain about the noise of hard footsteps above me. Another night there was a woman screaming because the front desk knocked on her door due to noise complaints so she proceeds to scream "I want to know who complained about me" So if you are NOT ok with NO sleep I would beware of staying here. We booked a 2 night stay through Expedia because we needed a dog friendly hotel quickly. There was a massive wildfire burning out of control and our town was evacuated. We checked in after dark and walked into what they call an "Executive Room." It was a good size and had two double beds plus a trundle bed. There was a desk for me to set up my work laptop. The outlets are all very difficult to access due to furniture being placed directly in front of them so I had to be a contortionist to plug all of my stuff in. The bathroom was a decent size with basic amenities but I had my own. The bathroom doorknob was almost completely out of the door and I was afraid if I closed the door all the way, I would not be able to get out. I looked through the literature in the room to see if there was a gym. Not one word. Next morning I go down for coffee and it turns out there is a very small fitness room. It would have been nice to know that since I like to walk on my treadmill every morning but it was too late. The window AC unit is right next to the desk but it was so loud that I had to shut it off to work. I am on the phone all day and that noise would be bad. I tried to open the window and it was very heavy and didn't stay up. It fell back down so hard and fast, I was afraid I was going to lose a finger. They have an area right out front, directly below our windows, where there are some chairs and possibly a fire pit but I'm not sure about that. Either way, it was a gathering spot for people to hang out. So there was plenty of that happening all night which caused my dog to bark a few times. He was very stressed to begin with, as were we, considering we had to evacuate our home and thought we might lose it to the fire. So apparently someone complained about the barking. Ummm,,,then maybe don't go to a DOG FRIENDLY HOTEL and maybe the staff can create a new gathering spot away from the rooms and windows. Maybe a curfew? This property has potential and could be very nice but needs many repairs and upgrades. The mildew smell didn't help either. But the absolute worst part was that we found out the next day that the local FD and PD lifted the evacuation order and our power was restored so we decided to go home. Granted, we checked out at about 3pm but it probably took an hour to clean and I am positive they were able to resell it for the night. I asked for a refund for the 2nd night and was informed that I had to go through Expedia. I called them and they reached out to the Inn on my behalf. They said absolutely no refunds. I called them myself and spoke with the mgr and said I was going to post this if I didn't get a refund and he couldn't care less. I explained how we were mandatorily evacuated and in crisis mode. Didn't matter. Would not budge. I would have never posted anything about this place on here, even though I would never stay there again due to all of the other things I mentioned. But since they don't seem to care about their fellow New Jerseyans, especially those in an emergency situation, then I don't care about them or their reputation. read more

This is a very unprofessional business. My father was injured by the metal frame of the bed. They did not return his calls for the last month and a half. When I found this out I reached out and the first thing the manager said "there was no blood on the carpet." Not even I'm sorry this happened. Then he said it was obvious from the pictures that he was injured already and he just reopened it. I guess he thinks he a doctor. My husband and I got the chance to stay in one of the suits for an over night visit to the area. I've never been more obsessed with a hotel like this one. When I originally booked the room the jacuzzi tub is what sold us instantly. This room was amazing and I wish we could have stayed longer because the overall charm of the hotel was great. The bed was just right and we slept great which doesn't happen often for us. They do offer free breakfast which is nothing fancy but it does get the job done. Overall we very much enjoyed our time we had and already made plans to come back next year for our anniversary where we would get more time to spend and enjoy the room along with the Area. Also if you book use their website and not a 3rd party booking site, you'll get better room rates this way. read more

I just stayed there last weekend. My partner and I were visiting the area to attend a family event, and he thought this hotel sounded like it would be a cozy place to stay. It does have a charming back story, so why not? The hotel was a 3-star type hotel, sort of comparable to a Hampton Inn, with a basic continental breakfast of fruit, bagels, toast, cereal, yogurt, juice, and coffee on offer. The decor of the room was pleasant, nothing luxurious, and it was neat and clean. This was all fine for the price we paid. My problem with my stay was that our room was connected to an adjacent room called the "Executive Board Room" that was evidently part of a suite that must be meant for bridal parties and the like. It might still have been loud even if the door had not been there, but this door was a particular conductor of sound. I could hear every word of the conversation that was happening there, as well as the piercing sound of laughter from a shrill woman's voice. And this continued until late. I had to wear earplugs in order to have a chance at falling asleep, which is a problem when I am paying to have a place to rest for the night. When I woke up naturally midway through the night, all was quiet, so I removed my earplugs. I figured I was safe. But then at 6 am, I was awakened again by the sounds of sexual moaning. At least I could turn the tables a bit and have some fun by loudly talking with my partner about how clearly I could hear what people were doing in the adjacent room. I will not likely have reason to stay in this part of New Jersey again anyway, but if I did, I would stay at a different property. Nobody should be assigned to Room 207 if there is a party scheduled for the "Executiive Board Room," or at the very least, the hotel should install a door with much better soundproofing between those rooms. It just isn't worth it to stay at a hotel where you can't get a decent night's sleep. read more

Hotel was disgusting. Hair and used feminine products left in the bathroom. Sheets looked like they had been left from the past guest. Restaurant was just as bad. The chicken in the dish we ordered was severely under cooked. When we asked to have it cooked to a safe eating temp we were told by the owner that the kitchen was too busy and the best he could do was give us half a refund. Half! We LOVED the Colts Neck Inn. Staff was very helpful and kind. Free breakfast provided was minimal, but appreciated. Mints were replenished daily and large bowls of lollipops adorned the top and bottoms of a beautiful staircase inside. Price was different than indicated online and they honored the incorrect price. Love the local feel and it is much more personal than staying at a big hotel. We felt like part of the family and we will definitely be going back! read more

I have been here twice now and it's been great each time. I found the other reviews interesting but I didn't share their experience. My boyfriend and I come here for our little private get away. The staff is friendly, the rooms have been clean both times, all amenities necessary and we love how quaint it is! Coffee/tea and cookies in the lobby, pretty staircase to 2nd floor (yes, there's an elevator), wonderful continental breakfast, board games if you like or have children, foosball table on second floor. Rooms are older for sure, but this is an old inn, not a Marriot or Hampton. It's laid back and very chill. Love this place and will be back soon. read more

My wife and I spent our 3 year anniversary at this sweet little hotel!!! First I sent an email letting them know thanks to the pandemic we haven't had an anniversary celebration nor a honeymoon and was wondering if they could help set up the room as a surprise to my wife. When we pulled up I fell in love with this colonial style hotel! I love historical buildings! When we walked up the stairs the landscape was so beautiful and the main lobby did not disappoint! We got to our room and they did not disappoint! Rose petals everywhere, with a little pathway of candles on the ground to the decorations of the rose petals on the bed. The whole experience was so wonderful! I will say for an older hotel it's obvious it's gonna be a little outdated but I find character in it, and very romantic! I appreciate the beauty of the history! The only thing I would say I wish was different was breakfast, just a waffle maker to make homemade waffles. Other than that it was a 15-20 minute drive to the beach, the drive wasn't bad at all and very pretty! I would highly recommend this hotel! Bonus is it's pet friendly! Next time we are bringing our puppy!!!!! read more

This hotel is 30 years old, not old enough to qualify as historic or vintage despite its run down condition and lack of maintenance inside and outside. It is located in a quiet area yet close to restaurants, markets, shopping it is not a Marriott! It does have the basics for charm if it were kept up. We stayed 2 nights as it was very conveniently located and there are not many other hotels nearby that take pets Our room on the 1st floor was very large, bathroom was updated and clean, bed was comfortable. Small window a/c unit in window did not work. Musty smell on first floor and open sewerage holding tanks outside smelled outside. We were woken at 2am by a noisy couple returning to room apparently inebriated. From other reviews, this is not uncommon and seems to be tolerated. A fresh rose on nightstand was a nice touch. Breakfast was adequate. It is priced below the average for the area and allows dogs. The property has all the makings for a delightful hotel if necessary repairs were made. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We got to colts neck in at 2 am and the woman behind the desk was sleeping with her mouth open. It smelled musty. We needed a place to stay so we said, ok. We will stay. On our way to our room we noticed books about the Scottsboro boys and found it deeply disturbing. Once in the room we looked around. The window was open. We were on the first floor and found this unsafe. Then there was hair in not one but two beds. There was also dirt on the floor in the bathroom. The icing on the top was when the lights started flickering in the room. We informed the front desk about these issues and told them we were leaving. I have tried to get a refund for the *one* night we were staying and paid $150 dollars to which management has lied over and over about to our credit company. I have produced emails to the management that went unanswered. I'll be posting on all platforms about this horrible place. If you're interested in getting this taken down. I stay in hotels often, and although the experience is not always great, I have never experienced anything as horrible as I did at the Colts Neck Inn, and this is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review. 1. The room was old and run down. I have a mold allergy and ended up with a severe reaction to the mold in the room, and needed to be put on a prednisone prescription. 2. I woke up with bug bites up my leg. (If there was another Hotel nearby, we would have changed hotels) 3. Upon leaving for the day, not only did we remove the "Do Not Disturb" sign from the door, but we also stopped at the front desk and requested that the room be cleaned and fresh towels be brought in. 4. When we returned that evening, the room was not cleaned and we had no towels. 5. Went to the front desk to speak to someone, but there was a sign that said "Will Return in 10 minutes". We waited 45 minutes before someone finally returned. 6. He gave us towels and said he would leave a note for the manager to contact us in the morning. 7. It was a warm day in April, and the room was hot, so we turned on the air conditioner before going to bed. Woke up baking and dripping in sweat because hot air was coming out instead of cool. Turned the thermostat down to 60 and still hot air was coming out. We turned off the AC but there was no way to cool the room down and it was too hot to sleep. 8. The manager never contacted us the next day. Upon checking out, we requested to speak to her. Instead of trying to make things right, she was argumentative. It wasn't until one of the employees we had spoken to previously came in and validated what we were saying, that she finally offered us a complimentary future night stay. Which I'm pretty certain would not have happened if the other employee had not come in when he did. read more

Allowed us to check in last minute when we were kicked out of a hotel we had already booked for not meeting the age requirement. Great staff, free continental breakfast, and easy to navigate. Only taking off one star for an ant and a few spiders we had to kill. Also the outdated tv and some stains in sheets and furniture. super nice 3 night stay - its a quiet place away from a "downtown" like area with easy highway access, and perfectly located very near lots of things: many restaurants, a brewery, distiller, farmers market place is a must visit(delicious Orchard) and a deli are all within half a mile. note: we got a great rate on the suite which had an in room jacuzzi for two. spacious sitting area and huge tv in the room. fridge & microwave. bathroom area had two sinks. so not the standard room at all. Room had some nice touches too: flowers in several spots, bubble bath bottle, bottled water, wine glasses. Staff was nice and helpful. The hotel has a mix of old feel with some modern Flair. there is an elevator For older folks Or heavy luggage Transport If I had to pick at any thing, the parking lot is in need of repair, patching and resurfacing but minor. (who cares about that really, though), 15-20 mins to the beach (long branch, asbury, Seabright,etc...). we were already pricing rooms, on the ride home, for later this year to return. read more

i have no idea how people are giving this Inn anything more than 1 star and here is why: I am struggling reading these reviews, it was like I was staying in a completely different place. I needed a place to stay for 1 night, looking at different options I came across Colts Neck Inn, it looked very charming , almost like a nice bnb. Price seemed very good. Well, i found out fast why the price was so good. This Inn was built in 1987, I am betting at that time it was that charming Inn i was hoping for. Problem is, it doesn't appear to have been updated since then. AC in windows with plastic extenders to cover the gaps, i had a temporary paper window shade to cover the other window, All the furniture looked its age and then some. Now, having said all that, i could live with that for price i paid. Issue was, at 2:45 am a group of 3 younger adults were in front of the building enjoying themselves, sadly, it was very loud and kept us awake. I called to front desk for help, no answer. Finally we had to go downstairs ourselves, we asked the front desk for assistance and he said he didnt see anyone. Short time later, noise started back up, we then spoke to the group (the were sitting right in front of building), explained the situation and asked if they could please either move or be quiet. 2 minutes after we left, it started again, i was going back down stairs when this group was coming into Inn and made some VERY unkind remarks which i will not repeat on this review but it started with "f" and "c". I asked the front desk for help and he stated "what do you want me to do?" the last time i checked, the hotel should address the situation like this. We couldnt sleep the rest of the night. When checking out in the morning, the kind young lady at front desk was equally useless in helping. I called the mgmt on monday morning, explained the issue and to my surprise, she said, "what did you want him to do?" She then told me she would let owner aware and would get back to me. I confirmed my proper email and phone # with her and as of this writing, i have not received any contact from them. So, take out my specific 3am issue and you are still left with a very old motel in much need of updating. It is rated as 2 star hotel and i think that is a very generous rating. read more

Last minute getaway and chose the Colts Neck Inn. Just wow. The building is old but dripping with charm. Every detail is worth noticing, from the fresh flowers in the room to the modest and eclectic decor. My wife and I stayed in the suite and were blown away with the size of the room and the jacuzzi. Quiet and charming foe a very reasonable price and walking distance to Source Brewery and Delicious Orchards. Will definitely return. read more

This is a charming and beautiful hotel. I got ready here for my wedding day with my family, and couldn't have asked for a better space. We chose the suite which is a large space (enough room for wedding party, family, vendors) with good lighting, a beautiful small window and they even added a full length mirror. It is quiet at night, the king bed is very comfortable and the continental breakfast made food & coffee so convenient in the morning. And the beautiful staircase into the lobby made for some great wedding photos. I'm so happy I chose Colts Neck Inn! read more

Was enticed when I saw such high ratings on hotels.com and when I saw the hotel bar photo I thought it would be a happening place. However, upon arrival, I was sadly disappointed to find a bar-less hotel badly in need of a face lift. Everything there felt like it was installed in 1990 and the shower water smelled strongly of sulfur. The one redeeming quality was that the woman at the front desk was extremely sweet. read more
