In the park, you'll find lots of grassy patches and trees providing plenty of shade. There are plenty of benches as well as little tables you can sit at with a friend. There's a big gazebo you could post up in with a big group of friends or coworkers. There's a large stage, and from time to time festivals and shows are hosted in Smith Park. There are water fountains in the park. At night, the park can get a bit sketchy but most of Downtown is empty at night anyway which is a bummer. During the day, this really is a lovely place to meet up with friends and share a picnic or just sit and enjoy the sunshine. I only wish there was bike parking inside the park!

Went there on a Thursday from 1-3pm and it wasn't busy at all. At this time of day some lengths of the trail were in the sun, but I would say most of it was nice and shady. There is a jungle gym/play area for kids, several benches and picnic tables in the shade and a bathroom and water fountain.

There isn't a ton of nature trails in the area or in the city of Jackson, but this place is a huge hidden gem. I felt at peace doing some morning hiking with my little one, Sneakers. We were the only ones in the park at 7:00 AM which is opening and we spotted deers grazing. It was beautiful. The trails are clearly marked and a few paths are accessible, except for the path leading to the Elephant Tree. That trail abruptly stops and doesn't follow through as the trail is covered with overgrown grass and trees. I came back with my boyfriend and he loved the park too. Every inch of the park is marked with informational nature facts. What I loved the most is that majority of the plants, trees, including the lichen is marked with names. If I tell you the amount of botanical or arboretums that I visited in my life fails to have this specific and minor detail is astounding. Thankfully Clinton Nature park did not disappoint to educate the masses on this note. They are actively teaching the people. I love that so much! The trails towards the left of the entrance even connects into nearby library which is a nice touch after reading a couple of books. In the evenings, the park doesn't get much attraction so hiking is a straight shoot and can be done at any pace. The left sided trails are more accessible, some with stairs, so not so much for the wheelchair bound. The park is maintained by a volunteer crew and I am sure they accept recommendations to make the space more accessible for all individuals to enjoy. I actually am planning to visit again the next time I'm in town. I love this nature park immensely. I hope more people can learn about this creative space and not sleep on it too much longer!

*SPLAT* "EWW... Oh…read morehell, what was that?" as you tromp your way down the gravel trail in the woods... thankfully you realize it wasn't a frog after all, just some strange remains of a nameless prehistoric looking insect. You move on... walking over bridges, through "gullies", around "loops" and eventually taking a wrong turn onto an "Indian Trail", or as I'd like to call it, a "bog" full of mud. If you get out of there alive you may be able to make it to the "butterfly garden" and over the pond bridge to safety... Until of course you sit down next to a giant black snake hanging out by the water and run past a group of first graders yelling "AH! OH MY GOD! I ALMOST SAT ON IT! ALMOST SAT ON THE SNAKE!" Be careful of the sneaky squirrels who like to hide in the bushes until you arrive so they can jump out and make much noise and scare you. They act like they are afraid but don't let them fool you, they know precisely what they are doing. If you kick every bush along the trail sometimes you get to surprise them instead. These are just some things you may encounter while walking on Clinton Nature Center trails... I walk here for an hour almost everyday now and it is a new adventure every time. Usually I am the only one here... And I can jog for a little bit without being made fun of. There are some places that you can continuously walk up and down hills if you want. I make myself seriously sore every time. There are many trails branching off too so you can tailor your route to your liking. They have a information center that has animals and exhibits that I haven't been in yet. Today there were approximately 30 six year-olds inside screaming and yelling, so needless to say I stayed far away... There's signs everywhere on the trails identifying types of plants and trees, historical sites (old trace's, postal routes, first African American school in Clinton), and lots of info on wildlife. Good place to bring kids or someone who's interested in nature.

The puppy and I stopped by the dog park to kill time while in town. My husband was sitting for an…read moreexam and we had 3 hours to occupy. There were lots of friendly, energetic dogs in and out to keep him company. Lots of running around and new friends were made. I definitely recommend it to anyone who may be passing through; there is also a walking path around the reservoir. It was a beautiful day, so he got a lot of air and sunshine. We will definitely visit again when we're passing through and need a break.

We had an early Sunday Pontoon rental and had a great half-day fishing along the banks on the…read moreReservoir. Owner was replacing the battery when we arrived about 7:15. He was friendly and gave us a few ideas where to fish and told us no rush to get back at noon if we wanted to stay out a little longer. We got back about 1230 and friendly dock hands came running out to help us arrive. Boat was pretty clean and ran well - we really can't think of any issues. There were four of us and we all caught fish - bass, bluegill and catfish. The adjacent bar and restaurant next door (Pelican Cove Grill) had live music and was busy and inviting but we had plans so didn't stay. There will be a "next time" for sure!

If you're handicapped, don't park at the Main Harbor Store unless you're literally on crutches…read more Dale Shepherd will harass you and get security. He literally did that to my girlfriend and I today at about 3:15 outside Pelican Cove Grill.  We parked in a handicap spot, with our handicap tag displayed properly. As we walked in he asked her, "are you going to stay long because that's a handicap spot." I told him to mind his own business, and he lost it. He said that it was "HIS" business (repeating this several times for emphasis despite Pelican not actually being his business). I told him she had Rheumatoid Arthritis and he told me he was getting security. I was too appalled to stay and eat so we left. So big shout out to Dale Shepherd for harassing people who don't look handicapped enough to his liking. Next time we'll bring crutches (provided that's ok with Dale).
