That's a bunch of BS: I've been here several times and satisfied each time. Folks look, it's a natural product and will have imperfections and it's just not going to be possible to weigh it before delivery and so there's going to be some vagaries to the purchase. That goes with the territory. And this isn't a fine dining restaurant, so adjust your expectations of service. yeesh. This place is flourishing since Pioneer closed. The stock and traffic have gone way up. But, it seems they take an attitude of being a monopoly. We are just homeowners amongst the strong workers getting trucks loaded. We hand picked some things. Two of the steppers we bought didn't work in the place we envisioned, and they were $35 each, so we returned them the same day. They had never said nothing can be returned. We were willing to accept credit for the $70 because we're in a project, and needed more things. Repeat, paying customers. But they would not budge. We walked and won't go back. In response to their recent comments 2 bucket loads with 3.25 yards right on n the bucket does not add up to 8 yard of mulch it add up to 61/2 yards period very dishonest on their part and yes I leveled it off right in front of them and it still didn't fill the metal part of the trailer by a 11/2 yards short the trailer filled to the metal sides would have been 7.26 yards that's why I had side boards to hold a full 8 yards the math doesn't lie but they sure do!!!! Your trailer was measured with you in person and verified with you. Our exact words to you were you were not going to call us a cheat, WE offered multiple times to dump and unload your load for you and to give you A FULL refund. YOU refused to unload it and would not come back in the office for a refund. AGAIN, we do not want you to install it and still request for you to bring back the load for a full refund. You're declination is a pure indication that you're the "something for nothing" kind of folk who I'm certain go to restaurants and consume 3/4's of your meal before complaining about "something" being wrong with your meal and then trying to get something for "free" or discounted. If anything, you were given EXCESS material today, and we're still shocked if you didn't actually think so then why in the world would you leave with the material when you were offered a FULL refund. In conclusion, the offer still stands for you to bring the load back in its entirety for a FULL refund yet I don't imagine we'll see you as to the references mentioned above. If I could give them negative stars I would. Last September I purchased 25 tons of rock for a huge project for my son and family. I've done several rock gardens in my 65 years and this was my last hurrah. I realize that it was end of summer and supply could have been low but I should have been informed, rather than them giving me a hodge podge of rock, pebble, dirt and anything else on their lot. Once I started to move the rock I realized what they had done to me and I immediately called them to see what could be done. Surprisingly they never answered my calls and never returned my messages! I selected the size rock I did so I would have less work but because of all the crap they gave me I had to work a lot harder - pretty crappy treatment of a 65 year old lady if you ask me. I realize it's a few months later but I am writing now since I wanted to warn people before they started their spring projects. The one star is because they change their hours at their discretion. We've gone twice from Fort Collins, and both times they were closed before the hours shown on their website. They either need to update their site, and if it changes daily they should have someone mention that! I used them over the years here in Loveland. Always treated me good. I see negative comments and what I see are Box store comments. This is large scale operations and we are the little people. They work with large truckers and landscape firms. So, when I go there, I know that. You have to have your act together when you go in. We've been here before and had a pleasant experience. Today, we checked in and asked if someone could look at our sample in truck and point us towards similar items. The guy just pointed based on our description but did not budge to take a look and save any time. An hour later, after dodging the front loader race car driver who was obviously more important than we were-hope you have good insurance-we decided what we needed and weighed in. Picked up our items. Weighed out and went in to pay and was "scolded" by another guy to check-in before going out in the yard. We told him we did and he continued to scold us saying we needed to tell him we were shopping-duh, why else would we be here? Anyway, soooooo disappointed in the service. Only person who was pleasant, through the window, was the woman manning the scales. They do have a lot of stuff, probably prefer working with contractors. It's almost as though they purposely hire the most rude and unhappy people they can find. Shane, the owners son who works in the office has an entitled, I'm better than you attitude and poor customer service skills. His father who runs a loader is one of the angriest people I've ever met and is constantly flying off the handle when you don't do exactly what he wants while he's loading you. Last year we purchased over 22 tons of rock from Crystals Landscape. We did this one truck load at a time which meant I was there a lot. The service was always fast and efficient. Originally I had tried pioneer down the road and was disappointed with their load operator as he always left me waiting while he took a break. If I could give a ZERO I would. I ordered BROWN they delivered RED when I asked the driver Is that the 3/8" western brown chip It sure looks RED? Driver lied and said it was, " just needed to be washed". It rained that night and it looked even redder. This was the final straw that broke my back. I hav never felt so disrespected as when dealing with crystal they are rude, unprofessional, dower folk ZERO Customer Service. The only person who was helpful was our first sales person who was new THEY TERMINATED. I guess she wasn't a good fit with the rude, dower coworkers. I wanted to reschedule delivery of our 12 tons of multiple products by 1 day because I had a STROKE. I was calling literally from my hospital bed they told me I would be fined $385 for canceling the order I just wanted to reschedule not cancel. I had to prove I had a STROKE and I recinded my request but within 5 minutes they had given my delivery slot away and I had to accept a delivery date 4 weeks later. They rescheduled my delivery 3 more times adding another 2 weeks to my delivery. We went to Crystal to present our dilemma that we were 99% sure that they delivered the wrong color gravel. The owners son /manager wouldn't go into the yard and look he told us the red bay was empty we had just looked at it and took pictures which showed it wasn't empty close but still held several tons. we brought samples from home and the 2 bays of red & brown chip he still wouldn't help us & told us he was going to kick us out. Mom's 83 no senior discount I'm 59 we haven't felt this disrespected EVER !!! we spent about $3,300 and we plan on red the back yard next summer. WE WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM crystal AGAIN !!! This place had the worst people working in the office. Every single girl in the office is miserable and seems incredibly disinterred in helping customers. It's like they HATE their job. I've been here a dozen times and never seen a happy person. In fact, I have often felt bad for the way other people are treated by office staff. I've seen them just shrug their shoulders when people ask if they have a specific stone in stock or when it will be back. They won't speak a word just shrug and look away from some poor older lady trying to get help. Yes, she probably isn't making them a ton of money but their apathy and rudeness is something that the owner shouldn't tolerate for 2 seconds. The younger guy that works here is a so passive aggressive you wonder why anyone puts up with him. I've seen him back talk customers repeatedly and give almost everyone a sneering dirty look (see other reviews that say corroborate this). Of course when confronted about his attitude he sulks and hides like a beaten dog. If you read other reviews one would guess it's the owner's son. The owner(s) need to wake up and fire this kid and pay better to get some people that speak intelligible English and actually give a darn in the office. It's literally some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. When I went to Pioneer landscape (just down the road) they actually told me that they get a ton of business from contractors that can't stand the kid. And this came unsolicited after I told them I couldn't find what I was looking for at Crystal. In fact, if you read the poor reviews of this place the vast majority are about the owner's son. You can get the same stuff for lower prices elsewhere with a whole lot less attitude. Don't support a business that has TERRIBLE customer service. read more

In spite of some past negative reviews, I had a nearly perfect experience in March 2023 ordering home delivery of 1.5 tons of 1.5" gray river gravel (for a landscaping project). The office visit experience was fast, pleasant, and clear; the price, especially for delivery ($70 rather than $88 for a competitor), was lower than another query; the delivery was the next morning; the driver called me ahead to confirm timing, and was on time; did a perfect job backing up a driveway at an angle to dump the load (turned out to actually be 1.77 tons, but that was OK with me) on existing rocks next to the driveway. First I tried to visit Pioneer (next door north), but there was no obvious office location, nor did they answer the phone (during business hours). So (from my car), I called Bath in FC to learn they no longer sell bulk goods, and I should go to Ewing (formerly Hageman), where I got a quote for a slightly higher price per ton + more for delivery (to SE FC). Then I spotted and stopped into Crystal -- and was very pleased. read more

The prices were good until they deliver without providing an accurate delivery estimate. Actually I was told about 1 hour. 300$ delivery fee surprise. It was a 15 minute drive! So I was charged 2 four of loading at 95$/ hour. The manager would not discuss this and was pretty rude. The guy turned his back on me and walked away! Probably not a real working man desk jockey type. I REQUESTED A CALL FROM THE OWNER BY THIS NEVER HAPPENED. Not a good business practice. Probably ok for pick up. I went to crystals today, I had bought all of my rocks and boulders through them over the years. Usually they are great, today I was told scrap flagstone pieces were $2 to$4 per square foot. That makes no sense, these were small pieces.. I feel that because they were busy, I was swept aside. Not acceptable. Totally done with them after today. We purchased river rock from this company. Only a little was needed, so my son asked what was the smallest quantity that could be purchased and was told 1/4 ton. So that's what was asked for. After the truck was loaded with rock it came in at .55 tons. When told this was not what was wanted the employee's attitude was basically "tough," and they said "there's a shovel." Absolutely wrong of this company to overload the pickup and then charge full price for their mistake. Don't buy bulk supplies from these guys. read more

After unloading this inferior mix into an exactly measured container, I found I was shorted a half a yard. I went back into the office and was treated rudely but given what was due. I like to wait until I do a review to see how things pan out. In April we purchased " garden soil" to fill planter boxes we had built, 12' long, 3' wide, 24" deep. I told the girl to sell me enough soil to achieve a depth of 16", given those measurements. The girl ran a calculator, and told us how much we needed. We also needed ground cover, chocolate bark, and gave measurements as to approximate square footage and asked what she thought we needed for amounts. After determining amounts recommended by their staff, we decided to place the order for both items. So for an $80.00 delivery fee, I live less than 2 miles from their location, I received the order. When I moved everything in place, my planters were filled only 12" deep, and I was short on about 1/3 on the ground cover. Based on the first order, I ordered what I thought would finish the ground cover and extra "garden soil" to finish filling my planter boxes. Another $80.00 delivery fee. After finishing moving the second delivery, I started questioning the amounts delivered. Based on the first order, I had an idea of how much we would need to finish. After finishing moving the second delivery things didn't add up. According to the amount from the first delivery, the second delivery was short. By figuring my own calculations based on the size of wheel barrow I was using, I hammered some numbers. By my calculations both orders were short by about 20% explaining why the first order didn't fill my planter boxes. I also mixed in another 12 bags of "Miracle Grow" soil and soil additives and mixed it together with the "garden soil" I purchased. Now in July my garden is not producing much of anything. The dirt I was sold is more of a "road base' then a"garden soil". It turned to clay and is hard as a rock. The bottom of the planters are open and only covered by chicken wire so as to drain properly. Whatever we put into our planter boxes form this company will now have to be removed and start over. Not only were the deliveries "short" they sell junk. I also continually get "fungus" growing out of the chocolate bark ground cover we put down. Sometime 10 to 15 inches in size. It's gross and a problem as we have two dogs. Not sure what their issues are but our experience with their company was not a good one and over priced. read more

Wow, what can I say, but what a horrible experience. I called this company to ask for dirt and sod to be delivered. I was quoted a price for the product and delivery, which I agreed upon. I gave my payment info and thought I was set up for next day delivery. 30 minutes later I received a phone call that if I picked up the product myself, they would knock off the $80.00 delivery charge. I couldn't pick up the sod and dirt myself because I don't have a truck to do so. I was then told that it would be $70.00 more and 4 days later than the original time set. This seemed weird, but I agreed because I desire to do the project. I then received a phone call saying that I would need to pick up the Sod myself because the company didn't have a way to deliver the sod, but could still deliver the dirt for all the same price. As I explained to the gal on the phone that I needed to cancel the order because I didn't have a way to pick up the sod, and was why I was willing to pay the increased delivery charge to begin with. The woman on the phone then started mocking me and called me a "little fishy on the line" to the guy next to her..... If I was a small business owner, I would want to know how my people were representing my company, because there will never be a consideration of shopping with Crystal Landscape Supplies again. read more

Purchased fire wood from them. The pine is excellent and burns well. I was lucky and got same day delivery on a Saturday. Delivery driver was friendly and put the wood exactly where I requested. I had a similar experience to Cinc W. I went there to get some sand, breeze and mulch. The girls at the counter said they'd get someone to help me get the cap off my truck for the loading so I ran over to Walmart to get a wrench. When I got back, I took the brackets off then went back in. This time a scrawny kid wearing a tight muscle shirt comes to the counter and says "We can't do that. We don't have the insurance in case your truck is damaged." I said "I don't care if it's damaged. I'll sign a waiver." He says "That's worth the paper it's written on." staring at me with a smirk on his face. I'm thinking this little shit just said my word is only worth a piece of paper. Unfortunately, they didn't know the difference between a triangle and a square when calculating how much rock I needed. I gave the counter person the measurements...18'x18'x18'. Three numbers, not four. Showed her a PICTURE. I said half the area would be mulch so I just needed rock for half the area. She said it would be 2 tons. Got it delivered and I knew right away it was too much. I finished the job, and yes, it was way over what I needed so I went back and talked to the manager and gave him the exact information including a PICTURE. He also came up with 2 tons, so I asked him if he measured for a square or triangle. He said that I didn't say a triangle, but I did, and I showed him a PICTURE. He just said pictures can be deceiving. Bottom line is they ripped me off for $60.00 and I have a whole lot of rock I need to get rid of. Their prices are quite high and they make you pay for stuff that is broken. We bought a whole bunch of landscape pavers and when we got home some of them they loaded up we're broken. I have been buying rock from them for years. Did not have a problem until today. The young guy who is suppose to be the manager should not have this job. He is a cocky, arrogant 29 year old who has no type of customer service skills. I was waiting for over 15 minutes to get loaded, called them from my truck two times. The second time the manager answered told him I'm still waiting, tells me the bobcat is warming up, saying what do you want me to do about, I told you you have to wait. Ended up telling me I gave him no respect. He would not talk to me when I went in there, told him he was snotty to me, he told me not to come back and get my rock at another place. I purchased $1000 worth of material this week from Crystal. All 80 pavers I purchased were scratched in some way and 3 were broken. When I spoke to the manager on the phone he basically said tough luck and that none of the pavers could have been scratched and that all the pavers could not have been broken prior to transport. I sent the manager many photos of each scratched paver as we removed them from the pallets. He hit me with a line like, "those pavers look fine, but if you want to exchange them for other pavers you sure can". I am located in Laramie, WY. I spent time and money to drive to crystal landscape supply. The fact that I spent $1000 at crystal, another $200 for my time and fuel, makes this experience an unpleasant one. I have a deadline for a project and the pavers Crystal sold me look terrible. I cannot use them and cannot return them to Fort Collins without spending another $200.00. My 83 year old father who has end stage cancer was here today picking up some more concrete steps for a small project. When he realized the man that was helping him load the stone had put the wrong colored stone in he told him. The worker proceeded to get really mad, yell, and throw things around because now he had to unload all the stone he had just loaded. I do not appreciate my father being treated in this manner. First and foremost the majority of the client service representatives are professional and courteous. My negative rating is based off the co-owner Shane. This young man is not suited for dealings in client services at this time. Depending on what day of the week (or month :)) you find Shane his attitude fluctuates from ok to horrible. It is likely that this job fell into his lap, as he does not display cordial behavior to his clients . I work hard for my money and am a self made man that shows respect to individuals, especially when they are putting food on my family's dinner table. Shane seemed as though he was insecure and his lack of working for this job is displayed in his communication skills...At this time Pioneer Sand and Colorado Materials are better suited to satisfy your outdoor lifestyle needs.
