Exceeded all expectations of a plasma donation facility. First impression were; very organized, cleanliness, and staff were polite, understanding and informative. I informed the staff member I was a first time donor at CSL and prior to starting any procedure they made me aware the whole process can take up to 2-3 hours. Which was great information to know for planning purposes. Unlike some plasma or blood donations facilities; every staff member in the front are nurses and assist you through the whole process without having to wait in another waiting area for a nurse. This made the process easier and faster. Start time: 0930 Finish time: 1130 Typical donation time once hooked up is 45mins but can vary depending on weight and hydration. I recommend hydrating the day before and hours prior to donating. Overall had a great experience and would highly recommend!

Ask for Stephanie if possible. I went in for my second donation, didn't get the first phlebotomist name but wish I did. When she stuck me, she did on the same spot from my first donation and even SHE noticed my vein was starting to swell and bruise. She pulled back the needle without letting me know and I felt the pain. She left me there and refused to come back. The machine was showing an error after the first cycle and a second phlebotomist came to help. She informed me I was moving the needle when moving my hand to help the pumping, she readjusted the needle and told me to just keep a fist instead. The process after was scrutinizing. At the end Stephanie came to help when my arm was staring to get numb, the second phlebotomist laughed at me (professional on her part) and saying: "because you're making a fist" ... which she told me to do. The first phlebotomist I didn't see at all. Now I have bruising and my arm has been sore. If you decide to go, ask for Stephanie.

Lately it seems like they have upped their game. The vitals check point is quick well as quickly as they can go. But lately the donation area has been going quicker. I noticed a lady came out who I have not seen before was delegating and telling employees where to go. Because honestly after I finish donating there are have been times I have waited 15 minutes to get unhooked and on my way. So I appreciate whoever that lady is. Thank you for helping to make my donation process go smoothly and faster.

Just reached 200 donations at this center! I would highly recommend this location. I've been coming here just over 2 years and have seen the improvements. Faster lines which is what donors want. I always make sure to get my raffle ticket on my 6th and 7th donation. Time to hydrate! See you there.

    Disgusting place. Unsafe

Wow. Terrible experience. Blood soaked my shirt. Pay card didn't work. Racist lady manager said not her problem when my card didn't work told me to calm down after 5 hrs of dealing with there incompetent staff. Center was vandalized. Showing Me they rip people off. Dangerous enough area that I wouldn't recommend going to a place that brings trouble to them. Stay away. Octapharma on Duke Street is the best place in San Diego to go.

Blow out vein and blood pumped under skin from CSL

Friday (3/ 29/25) donated and half way through it wasn't returning. Tech tried to adjust the needle. Needle felt deep and my upper arm felt like it was swelling. The tech blow out my vein and was pumping the return under my skin. I developed a very very large bruise measure 9X5(will add photo) Monday (4/1/25) pm call CSL and explain the bruise and if I can donate with the bruise. I was told yes.. just use my other arm. (Sweet!) Not one word about 2 inches. Tuesday (4/2/24) I go to CSL in national city. First thing I show my very large bruise. I am told to sit and a nurse will be with me. Nurse shows up and tells me if the bruise is more than 2 inch I can't donate. The problem is the person on the phone said I could donate. Tells me doctor will be in next day. Gabe the manager on site tells me I am not allowed to donate. Despite the person the day before saying I could donate. Then Gabe tells me I shouldn't rely on this as income. I felt very angry and dismissed by his comments. I take care of my husband who has cancer and mother who is 80.. and yes I rely on donating plasma. Sadly $115 a week is a big deal to me and my family. Reality, CSL need donners for their income! From what I have been told by staff, we get paid get $50 and $65 for donating 2 times a week. And CSL get $2000-$5000 per donation. I called the call center for the second time. CSL NATIONAL CITY claims to of called me today, to apologize. ( another lie) No, Rob called this afternoon and wanted to document the bruise, which was documented the day before. Then he tells me I have to talk to him to be able to talk to the doctor. Guess what? No doctor called all day. Called back around 4ish and no doctor today. Tried to speak with manager and she (Sayat) hung up 3 times on me and wouldn't answer any questions. Also I was being black balled.. I was put on hold for over 10 mins. And I called with another phone number and they answer right away as I am still on hold.... Not sure what they are scared of, also CSL Facebook, they do not allow posts and no commenting either. A honest company would be open and honest. 4/4/24 I called CSL to ask about the doctor. I was told the doctor would be there 4/5/24 at 10am 4/5/24 arrived are 11:20am to speak with the doctor. Front desk say the doctor is in. Which I did see an older gentleman doctor looking. I believe was the doctor. Out comes Gabe the manager and he says the doctor isn't there. The lies, I do not know what to believe. Tried to have a conversation with Gabe have a couple questions answered. I wanted to know why I was not told about the 2X2 rule. He refuse to answer the question. He told me about bruise and he is professional. Yes, I was frustrated! I ask 4 time same question... and then he asks me what is my question. Obviously Gabe wasn't listening. He tells me to calm down and how he is professional. It get worst! GABE SLAMS HIS HAND ON THE DESK IN FRONT OF ME IN A VERY THREATENING MANNER. I walked out... I didn't know what else he is capable of. He asked for me to come back... no way. I have never been threatened by a manger or have a manager of act in this way, I was afraid of him! He had this not nice look on his face and then SLAM! And I guess according to him "he is professional". Most people wouldn't have a job after treating a customer in this way. He basically wanted to speak over me and not listen. Which is why after 4 times asking the same question, he had to ask what was the question. This is so ridiculous. This whole thing has been so blow out of portion. Of course by CSL. I was originally lied to and I just want them to make it right. I feel I should at least get my $50( more now after all this) went I CSL on Tuesday to donated based on CSL employee saying I could donate. So this is all over $50 from a company they get THOUSANDS from each doner. I called the toll free number again and to update my report. And explain how the manager threatened me. They did not care. He told me I should have received an email. I did call back. I just couldn't believe this operator was so dismissive and didn't care about a manager (GABE) and threatened me. Other operator documented. No one from corporate has called still! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE (NOT!) CSL... CRAPPY SHITTY LIARS! Seems as long as your an easy patient (donation) it's all good and once they mess up.. You get black ball and hung up on .... Shamefull Company! Yes CSL I have called the number a few times.. and still no call back. So what am I suppose to do?

The open at 8 am this is the line and 8:05

This place does not care about the donors times, they are inconsistent with their policies and the lines are just crazy! The hardly take new donors because they are always "short staffed" and they tell you like it's your problem. I would Go to BioLife over this place!

As I was heading to get gas at the Costco off market, I saw a sign that said 'Save Lives, donate…read moretoday' or something to that effect. As I turned the corner down Gateway Center drive, I saw another sign that read the same thing. Well guess what, I GOT TIME TODAY! After getting gas, I headed around the corner to the blood bank. They say, you either die a hero, or you live long enough to be the villain. Well today, I was a hero. Clinics have always had a hard time drawing my blood, so I didn't think I was a good candidate. Today, I decided to put that theory to the test. Check in was a breeze (without appointment), and although the ~50-60 question questionnaire was a bit of a drag, it's worth it to save 3 lives. Don't ya think? I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the donation accomplishments of fellow Elite inspiration Candace L., who has donated over 105 pints of blood! Her photos and commentary reminded me of the gift that is donating blood. Congratulations Candace! If you're able, I highly highly encourage you to donate. The life you save could make all the difference. Okay so after you're all good on paper, you'll wait a few minutes for them to bring you back. Before you're able to donate, they'll have to prick your finger to check your iron level. If it's too low, sadly you won't be able to donate at this time. You'd have to come back another time and try it again. Thankfully, your iron levels do fluctuate, so just because you didn't make it this time, don't fret, next time you might be perfect. Once you pass test number two, then you're heading to the back to meet the Dracula machine. All of the people are so nice, and there to support you along your giving journey. You can donate plasma, platelets, or blood, and each have their own criteria for donating, and their own "bleed" lengths. I was doing blood this day, so it only takes about 30 minutes or so, depending on your flow. Btw, they play some serious jams in here, so when I heard "Smooth Operator" pumping through the speakers, I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be. After they removed the fangs, I was sent to the waiting/observation area, where I visited with the sweetest volunteer. I think her name was Elaine. They have snacks and juices for you to replenish yourself while you wait the 15 minutes of observation before you can leave. They even have these built in buzzers on the table, just in case you feel faint. Oh and to top it all off, they were giving away Mickey Mouse Halloween t-shirts to everyone who donated. In September, everyone who donated got a ticket to Sea World's Howl-O-Sceam. Pretty cool. Approximately 48 hours after you donate, you'll be able to find out your blood type if you didn't know it already. Any other O+'s in the house? Where you at? You have to wait approximately 2 months between blood donations, so I'm due back next month. And wouldn't you know it, I ran into a dear old friend in the blood draw room. He donates platelets every two weeks...what a champion-you know who you are! Kudos to any of you who donate, or those that feel inspired to donate. About 2.5 weeks after my donation, I was alerted that my blood was sent to Long Beach Memorial Center.... SCORE! I just potentially saved 3 lives. Save Lives, Donate Today

I like donating plasma. In fact, you might call me a plasma aficionado. Or a plasmado. (But please…read moredon't.) It's a great way to make, depending on the location, about 50 clams per hour of tax-free money while helping science discover and aid people with blood disorders. (Plasma is the liquidy part of blood, in case you're curious and didn't know.) And those of us who have donated regularly know that a lot goes into the donation process, not the least of which is how you're treated. And on that point, Biomat USA completely misses the mark. There are four big plasma donation players in town: BioLife, CSL, Octapharma (I know. VERY James Bond-sounding.), and Biomat USA. Even their name screams rocks and torture and summer reruns. The problem here is twofold. One, the staff is temperamental. Or, at least it was until I stopped going there altogether. They're friendly, even ribald, among themselves. But when it comes to the interaction between staff and donator, it's like the difference between night and seaweed. Between the bruising on my arm, the coldness of the staff, the basic overall indifference to the comfort of the people who make a place like Biomat USA profitable, I just found it too much trouble to bother returning, ESPECIALLY when you have a lot of other good plasma donation centers to choose from. Now granted, I'm not saying all Biomat USA's are like a tray of expired kale, but the one at 7150 El Cajon Boulevard is like Disneyworld minus the sexual predators but with ants. My other beef is their big, big violation of HIPAA. (See my blurry photo below.) You cannot ask people to display personal information like that! Oy! I cringe. And since you can't lie or you won't be seen, it puts its donators in the unenviable position of exposing themselves to strangers by being asked to sign in in such a public way. Yikes! (Personally, I just put my mononym, Prince.) But it's not all random scraps and metal and dog hair. They do pay fairly, they're highly organized - the onboarding process was seamless and professional, kudos to that R.N. - and they do a good job of getting you in and out. But it felt understaffed and overrun and their was this weird tension; it was as if the hole place could be raided at any moment by government officials. It's hard to explain. (Unless you've been through said raid.) I know there are some very upset people who wrote some understandably angry reviews. I would, too. But, for me, their offenses don't rise to the level where the energy spent on bashing them was worth the return in satisfaction. I just think they don't do enough to show their appreciation for the very people who make those private moments of laughter between staff possible.

However, the branch management should pay attention to this issue, as appointments should be handled according to the scheduled time.
