Moving from Austin I'm extremely disappointed with the availability of facilities here in town. My last home I could literally call and give the next day. My general gripe aside, I decided to travel a bit and visit The Blood Connection. Walking in, I found the people a sheer joy to be around. Course as a former comic, I lightened the mood and while they remained professional, made me feel at home. The goes for everyone, the receptionist, the "supervisor (sorry Brendan I think that's what you are)," the vital nurse and the "poker Alyssa" as sticker doesn't work for obvious reasons. The next thing you'll note this is an extremely clean facility which I can appreciate (ahem....not mentioning their plasma competition). I love the question all blood places ask "which arm would you like?" To which I always reply whatever is easiest for you! Unlike the other place, these people hit my vein second try (not their fault as my veins are deep and roll). I can appreciate them hitting it very quickly and relatively painless. I'd say the whole process was maybe 45 minutes? Hard to say as they said I was flowing good (to which I started wrapping) but running my mouth. I did hydrate so that helps out a lot. We wrapped up relatively quick and I got some snacks then hit the road. I was impressed with the staff and sterile environment to which I didn't have to linger about. I highly advise dropping by if you need to give blood. To which I'll end, please give it could save a life.

All staff were friendly, honest, professional and compassionate. As a new participant the process took almost 3 hours. Which, I was told prior to starting the process. Refreshing honesty. All the years I have donated in the states of PA and MD, I have never been offered or a expected money. They actually paid me $75. My purpose of donation is to help those in need of blood or plasma. I will continue to donate as the end result is my donation may save a life. However, I do appreciate the money for my time. Highly recommend this place if business.

Although they were short staffed, both him and his female co-worker did what they had to with a cheery attitude and making our donations feel more than worth it. I recommend giving here when you can. Each time has been pleasant and professional, regardless of how many people are there to donate. Today, I made an 11:15 appointment online the night before (and I was glad I did-- there were only two available appointment slots all day long!). I didn't do the Fast Pass question-and-answer preparation beforehand. I have in the past, but this time I didn't feel like getting out my laptop. This time, however, they told me it can now be done on an iPhone, which will be good to know for my next visit. I was the only one there when I arrived, and two phlebotomists were working. While Latoya was getting me prepped, though, three more donors came in. All were handled quickly and efficiently. I was in at 11:15 and out at 12:15. No pain, no problems, just a pleasant experience I'll be happy to repeat in 8 weeks. Thank you, American Red Cross!

If I bring a fast pass, why do they have to ask me my name 10 times, my date of birth 5 times. The re ask me several questions. I am trying to see the advantage of the Fast Pass for me. IT does take some to finish it before you get there. But the redundancy seems overboard. I am sure they are worried about all sorts of things and trying to be prudent/safe but really this is overkill. The actual act of giving blood took less than 10 minutes but still took around an hour. I know they can do better and hope they do. Their staff did a great job of getting the blood out once that started. I will keep giving but I hope they figure out how to streamline the process to help their staff take blood instead of doing all this paperwork that should be done with the fast pass.

I started this year off with power red…read moreas my daughter was having implanted a left ventricle assist device and I knew she would need blood and this was a motivation for others to also donate blood to make sure we were replacing the blood she received. I will recommence platelets the middle of June when I become eligible. I am 91. This facility is outstanding but even sometimes things don't go as well as you would like. But before I become critical of any inconvenience caused to me, I think of the patient and the patient's family waiting for blood or platelets and my inconvenience pales into insignificance. My daughter would not have survived without these donations, as is the case with another 5 million or more people in this country alone. So, I appreciate the efforts of all the Red Cross personnel, and all those who donate. I give them five stars also. And to realize that age 91 I can still contribute, that because of my donation, another will be able to get out of that bed and go home and maybe live to 91 also makes this old guy feel pretty good.

The first time I found the front door locked at about 2:00PM on a weekday. The next time, the door was locked but I could see people inside. They tried to send me away through the door, but with persistence I was finally able to get them to open the door and explain. They said they are short staffed, and will begin normal operations starting Monday. Fair enough. I returned at 6:00PM Tuesday (their posted hours are until 7:00). I walked in and was apparently in the place alone. After 10 or so minutes a woman walked in through the front door and explained that they closed at 5:00. I said their posted hours are until 7:00 and she just said they closed early. I asked who is in charge and she said "Tripp." She refused to provide Tripp's last name or a phone number. She also refused to say who owns the place. She was even a bit rude about it, as if this was my fault. Before each trip, I phoned but all that answers is a machine that takes messages. Messages are not returned. No notices of operation changes are posted on their website or even the front door.
