The amount of preparation and planning it takes to organize something this large with the amount of family and friends that attended is truly extraordinary. I parked at Matadome (Premier America Credit Union America) - no charge to park. Don't forget to bring your flowers and/or leis to celebrate your student's graduation. This 2 hour ceremony started about 30 minutes late (8:30AM) and ended at about 10:30AM. Restrooms are available yet all are inside the university buildings (none available outdoors) Make sure to hydrate and bring water and maybe some snacks. What's up everyone is the @light_skin_dragon coming to you from a library yes library. I can definitely read and be in a place that has books! I came here today to read a book that I got as a gift! Needed to get away from my everyday life of sitting in my bedroom depressed. So I decided to go out to a place that makes me feel good which is my old stomping ground CSUN. The book I'm reading is called Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. My goal is to finish this book by the end of the week which is Saturday/Sunday. I'm already in chapter 4 and I got the book yesterday. I'm passing myself so I will obtain the information while understanding the book as I read out loud to myself. The facility here has changed from years ago when I was here. In the lobby they have a coffee shop and a lounge area. Which is crazy to see in a library! The Best Library to study especially in the 4th floor. I really enjoyed it as a current student here at CSUN the staffs are nice. The Chairs in all floors are nice and clean the tables looks clean. CSUN has a really good library with plenty of resources but I must admit it does smell weird in some areas

This place isn't fancy and their restrooms need some loving, but it gets the work done. During finals, they are open 24/7 for students to pull all nighters and to sleep in There are countless students that will knock out in the study rooms or open couches in the library. Thankfully, they recently renovated so when you walk into the library, it's more appealing to the eye knowing that they recently renovated, I was ecstatic to see if they touched up the restroom. They have not, it's still pretty disgusting. There's one main restroom on every floor besides the main one. These restrooms get backed up, stink and run out of supplies fast. 5 stars for the summer only! haha I like going to the top floor, because it is amazingly quiet & very spacious too. I don't even need my own cubicle, I can just sit at a wide table area and study very peacefully. The room is very bright as it is surrounded by windows with a pretty view of the campus. As a grad student I have to say that I used to love going to the library to study. Their book selection was great and you could find what you were looking for within mins. I am afraid now things have changed. I have no idea what they are doing on the 2nd through 4th floor that you can never find the book that you are looking for. Plus they need to upgrade the bathrooms... They are just old and dirty. I assume that with the money that the Cal State Universities are paying their presidents, ofcourse there is never any money left for up keepings to benefit the students... I just don't understand where all the tuition money is going... No even the professors don't make that much. I am sure of that! read more

What a beautiful, historic Library. The Oviatt Library has been here for as long as I can remember. I use to stop by the Oviatt Library when I was in middle school and high school to look for resources. The Library is a little outdated but still has a lot to offer. There are study rooms, computer labs, printers, scanners, resources, tons of tables and chairs, helpful librarians, and even a Freudian Sip. While I am not a csun student and came here as a visitor, I have to say this is one of the better school libraries I have seen. There is a little cafe as soon as you walk in and then you can go up the escalators to the rest of the the library. I think this is the first college library that I've seen with escalators. Pretty cool. Anyways, as most libraries it gets quieter as you go up each floor. As of this review in July 2015, they are renovating the 2nd floor and rearranging the library collection. I read something about the rare book archives so that is pretty cool. The library has multiple study tables, cubickes, and even private study rooms that you can reserve online for use. Apparently there have been some issues with thief as there are multiple signs reminding you not to leave your laptops and phones there for the taking. It may be quick to go to the restroom and come back, but it's not worth it. Anyways, this is a cool library and I definitely found it easy to get some studying done there! :) read more

One reason why I always end up at this library is for one its huge so you don't have to be crammed into one spot. The bottom floor is a little noisy but as you go up the floors the noise goes away. The WiFi signal is strong (granted you have to login to CSUN account). During finals they are open some nights til 2 AM and other nights they don't close. THIS IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL for someone like me who has trouble studying at home but still needs to pull an all nigher or study late. read more

This place was were I practically spent my whole undergrad. Great study rooms, multimedia room, and book selection. Staff is somewhat helpful, it depends on the situation. My favorite part about the library is that you can bring food inside now because they have a Freudian Sip in the lobby. Go to the library for a 10 hour study session and bring in a large pizza and not be sassed by the door monitoring librarian. Helpful hint: IF YOU RESERVE A STUDY ROOM, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU AN OVER TIME LIMIT FEE IF YOU ARE LATE CHECKING OUT OF THE ROOM. I accumulated 3-5 dollars in a semester because of that. read more

The library: 4 floors, lots of places to study, clean. plentiful books, computers, and resources. You can also rent laptops, and the library coffee shop is decent. The hours are ok ... Always changing. On Fridays and near school breaks they can close as early as 5pm. The students: HORRIBLE. Every single time I have studied at the library, whether it's on the 1st floor, or 2nd - 4th (quiet study area), I have encountered a handful of rude and obnoxious students. I've seen it all... Including .. 2 girls twerking (not an ounce of shame), a guy putting his music on full blast, on a boombox...and ignoring everyone's request to turn it off, people loudly talking on the phone for long periods of time, students coming to just hangout and loudly talk and mess around (in the designated quiet study areas), guys watching porn ... The list goes on.... The issue is... The staff.. They are nice, but don't care enough to enforce the rules. I have seen people complain so many times, and the situation was never handled. read more

This library is definitely not a place to come study. Despite this supposedly being a university library, you will find that the students here are extremely rude. For one, they talk in areas thats supposed to be quiet zones. They constantly run their mouths and dont know when to stop. To ad injury, they "attempt" to be quiet by whispering, but loudly! I just don't understand why someone with a brain at a university don't understand that you dont talk in the library, and if you want to talk, reserve a study room. Not here though. But then again, this is CSUN, where a 2.0 is all you need for admission. Speaking of study rooms, youll find students here who reserve rooms and talk loudly with the door open! Theres a reason why its called a study room, people! Close the door! Why must they leave the door open so everyone on the floor can here them? At UCLA, their students are remarkably different. You can here a pin drop there. It just shows you the difference in the quality of students, especially here at CSUN where they dont have the brains to practice proper library etiquette, especially during freaking finals! Being that it is my 6th year at CSUN (Undergrad and Graduate School), I like to think I know the Oviatt Library rather well. In fact, I remember what the library was like prior to the first floor being "The Commons." Over the years, the library has truly become my safe-haven. With that being said, the Oviatt has so much to offer. Here are a few things that make this library the place to go for MANY reasons. 1) The first floor, aka, The Commons The first floor has a vast amount of resources for CSUN students. There are computers on the right hand side that allow you to work and print. The best part is that the library automatically gives you $20 worth of prints for FREE already credited to your account. There are also great group study rooms for those groups that are not looking for the quietest location to work and who in turn are not going to be the quietest. The rooms aren't completely enclosed, so noise will filter through. But what is really awesome is how you can write on the whiteboards and the walls of the rooms, as they are made of glass and see-through. The bottom floor also has the Freudian sip, so that's a plus. 2) PRIVATE GRADUATE STUDY ROOM(S) If you are a grad student, you have access to a private study area for ultimate seclusion. You can either go to the fourth floor or the bottom floor for these areas. Simply check out a key from the circulation desk, and you get your own room that you can have for 3 hours A DAY. (Undergrad rooms are for a maximum of 2 hours PER WEEK). I love these rooms because you can come and go as you please because you can lock the doors behind you. Amazing. 3) A lot of people don't know that there's a YA/Children's literature section in the basement. You can check out books as well as props that go with different children's books. My ONLY complaint is that I feel like there are a lot of disrespectful undergraduates who don't know what it means to be quiet. Although there are designated quiet areas and signs telling you it is a quiet area, people aren't always aware or respectful. Seriously, if you want to whisper or talk, go outside or get a group study room. read more

Has all essentials I need for a successful year at CSUN. Got computer's millions of books I can get. I'm able to rent laptops for a week and even get my own laptop fixed for free at the IT department located inside the library. Bet most of you did not that. I can also get Microsoft office for free and free virus protection. Best of all there is a coffee shop inside of the library so I can get my fix. HELL YEAH!!!!! read more

An interesting building. It's kind of classic looking on the outside, more modern on the inside. Anywho, it's quite noisy on the first floor (that's ok, I like it that way), unsurprisingly, since there's a coffee shop and lots of people. If you haven't hit up the library yet as a CSUN student, definitely do it. I find it to be interesting, and different from a regular library, of course. You can also rent study rooms online as an individual or as a group. Check it out at least once. ;) And FYI, the Freudian Sip there has a yummy triangle tuna sammie (if you like tuna), although, be warned, it contains onions. Gorgeous library that looks ginormous as your are walking up the many steps that lead up to it. There is a help desk in the lobby as soon as you enter as well as a Freudian Sip cart version I believe. There are also metal detectors. The first floor has computers that are available to students as well as tables to study at and smaller desks that are closed off to make studying a little easier. The computers are on a first come first serve basis, so as soon as you see someone leaving, your allowed to snag that spot.There is always a librarian at their desk as soon as you walk in. They are there to help you with research and locating books. There are also two or three computer labs on the first floor that are mainly used for teaching classes, but I believe those are open to students as well if they are free. Very clean library. Easy access to the library from any part of CSUN, which is convenient. read more

I am a student as CSUN and I have to say I am very impressed with the library. It is a magnificent place to go when you want to study or just read a book. It has 4 different floors. the first consists of a several computers and a couple of study rooms and a coffee place to your left when you walk through the main entrance. The second floor is the floor that consists musical books to check out or is known as the floor of the "arts." The third and the fourth floor are both very silent unlike the other 2 because they are specifically used for studying and respecting the silence. When you walk in the first thing you smell is coffee because of Freudian sip to the left. The aroma is delicate enough to give you a sweet sensation of home. The aroma travels through the first floor however, makes no attempt to move past the first floor. The rest of the floors have the smell of a new book with a freshly broken spine. There are parts of the library that smell strongly of a scent that was forced upon them. It always gives away a clean odor and is good to avoid allergies from bothering you in your study mode. When you walk in the first floor all you hear are the blenders and mumbling of people because that floor is not required to be silent. As you progress through the different floors in the library you begin noticing that they become quieter. At moments all you can hear is the typing of the keyboards and/or the flushing of the bathroom toilets. There is hardly any murmurs. The only time you can hear the sound of whispers is when a student asks a librarian for a reserved book. The only thing you can touch in the library are the books soft cover to the keen edges of papers. The soft keyboard being gently guided by your fingers as you press against the greasy letters that are left with different fingerprints of people before you. This library is a good way to get away from distractions and soak in the importance of silence. read more

The Oviatt Library is a great place to go when you need to sit and do some work. From the outside, the library looks huge; it is four stories high and it even has a basement! It is one of the main and most recognized structures at CSUN, mainly because of its classic charm ( with its grand staircase and Greek-like appeal). On the other hand, the inside of the library is totally modern with its black/white/grey color scheme, chrome security detectors, and cozy cafe in the corner. When I first entered, it all seemed overwhelming, there were so many students and places to go, but it was nice to know that many of my peers come to the library just as much. As soon as I stepped in, it was noisy and there were tons of students sitting at small round tables and study bars. Because of the cafe, noise was expected. I didn't mind though, it was nice to see that this library was different than others .The staff were very helpful and efficient in providing assistance, especially when I was lost and asked for the location of a certain study room. As I walked around the first level of the library, the scent of coffee from the cafe remained in the air, but the noise level varied from the loudness in open space to quieter individual rooms. Eventually, I made my way to the old, creeky elevator and found myself on the second floor. It was very quiet, all that was heard were the ruffling of papers and typing of keyboards. The setting was much more like an actual library. The green carpet lead to tables where up to four students at a time could sit and study. Of course, there were many shelves containing books of all variety. On the outer sides of the shelves there were independent study cubical, where students can sit and do work with no disruption. Within the second and third floors there are also private study rooms students can book. The best thing about getting one of these rooms is that its really simple, and it's online. I booked a study room this past week and it was cool. Sure, the rooms are small and bland with its green carpet, white walls, mahogany table attached to the wall, two green chairs, but it gets the job done. The rooms are nice to have because outside of the room the entire floor is quietly working, but inside you can converse with peers and discuss classwork or homework and feel comfortable doing so. I believe that the Oviatt Library is an amazing tool CSUN offers. It's a cool place to study, or even to hang out. read more

I like this library, it's spacious, and better than most libraries in the area. The parking situation is CONFUSING, the librarian or front desk told me i had to park outside on the street when i called, good luck with that - there is no street parking anywhere. Later found out that you can buy a pass to park in any structure (almost), for $6/day (if you're not a student already). This was kind of high. During my journey to find the perfect place to study, I had stumbled upon this library. Alright I really didn't find it by accident, it was recommended to me by a friend who attended school here. I've driven by this campus almost every day, one would think it wouldn't be that difficult to find. But if you do not know the difference between your north and south you can be doom to an eternity of lost in confusion. Normally I plan out my trips in advance to prevent any unusual circumstances, in this case I had entered the Twilight Zone. I went on a lazy Sunday afternoon when there was not a single soul to be found on campus. Parking here if you are a non-student is outrageous, recommend parking on the streets to avoid the all day $6 fee. Getting out of the parking lot is where you can go wrong as I did. I remember looking on the map that the library was in the center of the campus. Ironically I found a coworker there and had asked for directions, this is where I should have stopped and questioned my coworkers knowledge. She stated to follow the white building. White building I thought, that can be easy so I went to big white building. On my way there I found another lost soul looking for the library. She was brazilian and cute :) hey I'm a guy, what you expect. (By the way, the white building is the performance center.) So she tagged along with me in venture to find this mysterious library. Suddenly this was starting to feel like a voyage in search of the fountain of youth. Two lost explorers looking for the great white building. After a couple of minutes I had enough of playing and was ready to bounce this ship. We came upon the security guard, he directed us the correct way. When we finally found it, to my surprise this building is not at all WHITE, what the hell! Thanks to my coworker she made me look stupid in front of this girl. Unfortunately as we approached the library some dude was waiting for her. Well at least I found the library. For the non-student, spacious room, plenty of spots to study, no wifi unless you gain access. But overall okay being what it is. Might return once the library hours are extended again when the kids return. read more

A HUGE resource of material in various media for your perusal. There are stacks and stacks of books (although most are more than 5 years old, which is not so great if you're looking for technology-related books), a couple of huge computer labs (PCs only), a multimedia viewing/listening room with tons of material, and a museum of sorts with lots of artifacts of CSUN's past. I like having access to their online databases, but those subscriptions are not as complete as one would hope. read more

I haven't been to any other college library so I can't say that the Oviatt is better or worse than any other one. I can say it's better than a couple community college libraries I been too. I love that it's open later than many local city ones because us college students are great at procrastinating and studying late at night so that's good for us. Pro's -they have books on reserve for classes (well your professor has to place them there but still) for about 2 hours I think. -A computer lab on the third floor; you have to pay to print. -Group study rooms. You can reserve one or if there's two (or more)of you, you guys can swipe an empty room (write you name on the board, put a little conqueror flag or something). These rooms do fill up quickly so you'll want to figure out a little strategy on how to get one. - There's study cubicles for us students so that you have you're own personal space to work in. They also have tables by the windows which I prefer more because I like a view. -They're open later or all day for finals week, which is amazing!!! When it nears finals they'll put out their new Finals week schedule with the late night hours, which is really nice of them :] - They have drop-off boxes all throughout campus so that you don't even need to hand deliver the book back when it's due. Con's - Their bathrooms are kind of dirty; they probably could be on top of that a little bit more in my opinion. - It's not really the library's fault but sometimes people hold on a little too long to those rented books and you could be waiting a whole semester before you get to see it.
