I did have a great experience at the library. I guess because of the homeless population increasing, this library now has security at the entrance. This surprised me because growing up, I had never seen security at a library before until now. The older lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful. I was able to complete the task in a timely manner.

The building has a cool modern design with a sloping roof. I stopped by on a Sunday and it was not empty. What a perfect place to relax and read a book while the rat race is rushing around outside. I feel more libraries should be open on the weekends. I'm sure they could find plenty of senior citizen volunteers who could fill hours that are required to keep the library open.

I decided to check out this library a little further from my house as they offer storytelling and story play for the little one. It looks very outdated inside and outside around back. The front window is large and modern but it houses the friends of the library store. All the stacks are located in one large room. Parking was plentiful as it is not to a government building also. What I did not like were the "friends and neighbors" hanging out with their belongings outside. No thanks!

I like this library a lot. It's my next fav after the mid-valley location. This one is open on Sunday's. They have a used bookstore inside as well as lots of movies to check out. Their cd collection is nice too. Their are Lots of computers for people to use and their air conditioning works great for those HOT days. Parking lot is in the back. But I like to just park in front on Vanowen Street

Then as the weather was drifting into May Gray coolness, we wanted to go to the Chatsworth Library for some indoor quiet time. That branch was closed at the time, having renovations on their HVAC systems. It wasn't that far to get to Northridge, so we checked out that location. We found a convenient parking place, then a clean restroom inside. Then it was time to visit the children's section in the back corner. What a delightful time for 6 year-old SG. She was in reading heaven. She browsed the racks, picked out several books at a time, then found various places to snuggle up with her finds. Dear Hubby happily found the magazines and started reading on his own. There are tables and chairs, and also computer desks near the kids' area, so we could be close, but give SG her space. I was checking work email for a while, and then Yelp reviews. The layout and design features of the children's section are very charming and create a cozy atmosphere. SG was excited to learn that she could have her parents get her a library card so that she'd be able to check out a certain number of books and take them home for a time. A library fan is born! I told her about when I was a kid on the first day of summer vacation I would ride my bike across town to the library and come home with a basket of books to read. That was my ritual throughout the start of the summertime. Read, read, read. Go for a swim, get something to eat, then read some more. Simpler times!

I'm working on a more comprehensive report of the authoritarian culture I've observed here. The supervisor, the librarian and the security guard triangulate in ways to avoid accountability. I'm well versed in all their methods because I've been subjected to them. These techniques are being used too often. They are too practiced and methodical. There's a stark contrast in culture compared to neighboring public libraries. The supervisor is a Karen. She has hand picked staff that are supportive of her behavior. She had trained them to coordinate her oppressive protocols. I will document all actions taken against me: be they open or covert. I will voice them publicly and at local city council meetings. The library belongs to the people. The library of all places should be inclusive. There are kind library ushers Working at this library Who are more suitable administrators. The cognitive dissonance Produced from Oppression at the Northridge public library Requires reconsideration of Management

Parking is spacious but I did sadly see the charging stations that they used to have here have been permanently disconnected but the machine part is still there. It only took 5 minutes and now I have my card! I can't wait to start using Libby. I then walked around browsing the aisles and I found a wide selection of different languages which I thought was awesome. There's also plenty of study tables and many public computers. On leaving I looked around the park. I was really pleased because the grass looks nice and green and no foxtails! I saw someone playing with their dog in the field and this made me realize this is a great place to bring my dog to do some training and it's close to me. Because this is a regional branch, this is a busier library than your local branch. There is still ample parking. I was also able to find a computer right away, even though many of them were already taken. I plan to come here more often. Make sure to sign up for a library card if you haven't already. Among many other benefits, it enables you to print up to 25 pages B&BW for free every day! This alone has saved me a ton of money instead of having to go to Office Depot.

They're especially great to my 3 young kids. You can tell they're always excited to see young people in eager to read. The location is also very unassuming from the outside. Honestly, I had driven by it dozens of times before even realizing it was there. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it was just part of the fire station that's next door. Because of this, if you're not paying attention, you can easily drive by without realizing it. The parking lot is also very small and with tight spots so be prepared to have to park along the street (which is a hill) and walk in. That, or just go during 'off hours' during the weekday if you can to ensure there won't be a ton of people in there. One of the highlights to this location is a large meeting room. They have tons of community events for just about everything under the sun. Be sure to check out upcoming events to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. However, just don't set lofty expectations. I took my kids here for an event (I don't want to call out what it was because the librarian who put it on did seem to have great intentions) that was a total dud. I think it just wasn't planned through enough and or she was just overwhelmed by the rambunctious, loud group of young elementary school kids who showed up. I don't want to say don't take your kids to children events here. Our experience very well could have been a one off. Just set you expectations accordingly. These are events planned and put on by the librarians. They're not experts in any particular field and they are bound by the resources at hand. So, in all, if this is your local library, it's a nice one with a good amount of things to offer. However, if this one is a bit out of your way, I would maybe say just stick to your local branch. Remember, if they have a book here that you want, you can always have it sent to your local brand for free. That's the joy of LA's massive public library system.

Can't find what you're looking for here? Good news! They have interlibrary loans that come pretty quickly. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful. One downside is that this is a pretty small library, but since you are able to request loans from other libraries, it's not so bad. If you're on the tech side of life, get the Libby app and connect it to your library card. You can borrow e-Books and audiobooks straight to your device, as well as some magazines. It's also a great way to monitor your library account. One other downside people may consider, is the unhoused population around the library. I go here often and have never been bothered by the people there. They are usually minding their own business and hanging out side. Cute and cozy little library.
