I have been to Petit Park a dozen times and I honestly never realized that this building was a library location! Depending on where you come from, it just looks like an unassuming building from the park side. With that said, it's a really nice location. There aren't many special frills with this branch, but I think that's fine. It feels slightly more 'utilitarian' of a library. You're here to check out books, do some work, & get out. If you're looking for community events, that's right outside at Petit Park. I don't say that as a knock. Far from it. I think libraries like this have a great use case. Because of the park outside, there aren't many kids running around. This has been one of the more quiet libraries I've been to in my quest to get all of the branch stamps for their 100th anniversary. It's a perfect place to research or focus on something. Keep in mind that because this shares a parking lot with the park, parking can be very limited. Okay, so maybe after 4+ decades in the SFV it's about time I got a library card! LMAO I was recently welcomed to a book club and thought all my excuses have now lapsed. The escape of my childhood could also make a wonderful reprieve from adulting. NOTE: This branch will be closed February 9, 2025 and reopening Monday, April 13th. We are told a new paint job is in the works, but this obviously much loved and worn branch could use a bit more sprucing up. Tina welcomed us in and got us set up with new cards celebrating 100 years of Los Angeles City libraries! A card for the wallet and one for the keychain. She was also very kind in setting aside a State Park pass for us to return and grab before the branch closes next week. A State Park Pass is good for 1 car and only at designated State Parks. So plan ahead if you want to take advantage of this benefit available to library card holders only. Tina let us know the pass, like books, are lent out for up to 3 weeks. Sweet! We look forward to utilizing this amazing resource now that we've tapped into it. Stopped by my childhood library to get my library card as an adult! The service was amazing, workers were so kind and passionate. They helped me out so quickly and I was thrilled with the experience! Hire a security guard for the overwhelming presence of homeless panhandling just outside and around the front doors. Inside it's a jumbled mess, unorganized and sloppy. Food crumbs and a smell. Wash the carpets?? The moron sitting in a clear cubicle just inside the door, not quite sure what his job is, but I asked him a simple question twice; his reply?? Huh?? The question I asked was, do you carry passport applications. The unmanned reference desk is in the middle of the library. It should be moved to where the incapable idiot was sitting. Man, Granada Hills has a tiny library. I guess this is just one of their libraries. Not very many resources here as of books, magazines, and less childrens books. It's a nice clean library right near its local park. Nice workers and staff here. It's still a good library. read more

If you wanna study, you're better off going to starbucks. The staff here are the noisiest (not the people coming in). The staff is very inconsiderate of people reading and studying. They know library is very famous for "silence please" motto, but they don't implement it. I have a finals to study for that's why i come here for some quiet reading but the staff dont even think of whispering or talking somewhere else, so rude. Everytime im here they are like that. Went in on a Wednesday morning, shortly after they opened at 10am. We were greeted immediately and he was friendly! We had completed online applications so it was a quick process to show identification and get library cards. Decent selection of books, fairly clean and well-organized. It is also near a park (parking lot is active but understandably so for the summer). If you find that the library environment isn't as comforting, try going outside and enjoying a book at an available table with many trees for shading. It felt safe and friendly and we will definitely return. read more

My partner had put a laptop on hold, and was going to pick it up, knowing they were closing at 5:30, she rushed from Burbank to Granada Hills, getting to the library at 5:20. The library was empty. When she went to the Reference desk to check out the laptop, an older woman told her and I quote "It's too long to check out, it'll take 10 minutes." She then said they were closing in two minutes, however, their hours say they close at 5:30 and remember, it was 5:20. My girlfriend then asked again, saying she could do it quickly, but the older woman just kept doubling down and saying she wouldn't check it out, and to come Monday instead. My girlfriend left sobbing and very upset, knowing that we're paying for these people's salaries, that they had just had the last two days off, that she had rushed their and wasted her gas, and that their was literally nothing else they had to except let my girlfriend fill out the paperwork. The librarians here don't act like they have PMS all the time...Well, they stopped having menstrual periods long, long time ago, but you know what I mean. They are very, very helpful and friendly. They would even walk you to the exact book that you're looking for even if they're busy. I had to get Geraldine Pinch's "Handbook of Egyptian Mythology" for my Intro to Western Civilization honors project. I looked it up on http://worldcat.org/, and surprisingly, this small library had it! The librarian had a few people who needed her help. Once she found the book's location, she asked me, "Are you familiar with the library's shelves? Would you be able to find it if I gave you the number? I said, "Uh...Not quite...But you can just point me to the right direction, and I'll try to look for it." She could've let me wonder around that aisle with 2 bad eyes of mine, but she chose to walk me to the right shelf and actually picked out the book for me. I could never thank her enough. The ladies at the checkout register are also friendly and helpful. One of them (the lady with the big hair) might not appear or sound like a nice and calm person, but she's actually helpful and helps you get things done. I had to apply for a new library card because the one I had expired...I never knew library cards could expire...But it does happen. And when it happens, you just have to fill in another application. That's not too hard, is it? If you're interested in adult book discussion, this is a great place for you, you bookworm! You get books free here! It offers everything every library does: quiet place, computers, ability to pick up holds. Staff here is incredibly friendly and eager to help so it gets that extra star (I was originally going to give 3). Unfortunately the parking here is atrocious all the time. There are a lot of apartments nearby so visitors and residents park here during the day and the park has people who hang out ALL DAY and there's baseball or soccer fields and a gym so the parking lot is full every time I've been here. Street parking is even worse. I feel like they should have 10-15 spots that are 1-2 hour spots for library patrons here to check out books. read more

I've had an LAPL library card in good standing for 15 years. Consistently borrow. Return items on time. Never had any issues. I recently returned a book via the outdoor "book return" container, after hours, at this branch. Regrettably, the staff at the branch is claiming that I never returned it, and have billed me $40 for what they are terming a "lost" or "never returned" book. I've spoken with several staff members, including the librarian, and requested that they view my library card history which would indicate that my library card account was always managed properly. Even so, all are refusing to consider that an error was made on their part ... that I returned the book as stated. As I refuse to pay the $40, they deactivated my LAPL account, thus am not able to use any public library in LA. A bit disillusioned to say the least. Thanks, city gov't workers. read more

I think it's because it's not my normal library I go to and I'm always confused as to why my library is suddenly so small, limited in books, filled with people and has this depressing feeling. This place is unusually quiet. I like that! It's also next to a park which is convienent if you want to work out after you read or study here. Parking is a breeze as well. Overall, it's a decrnt place to study. Not that many desks though but just enough. read more

First, the BAD... - It's not open on Sundays or Mondays, and they change their schedule as often as the weather. - If you're in a rush, they don't have the best selection on-hand. - The facilities (restrooms) could be updated and the outlets could be a little more convenient. Instead, I have to crawl under the table to plug my PC in. - Parking is non-existent when there's an event at the park. - Late fee is 35-cents a day... ekk! - And, the alarm always goes off. Now, the GOOD... It is SUPER CONVENIENT!!! I can walk my dog to this location and every book in the Los Angeles Public Library system (other than the reserves) is available to me via their online reservation system. I simply pick search for my desired book online at http://www.lapl.org/index.php and they place me on a queue to receive the next available copy, of the exact version I requested, and deliver it to the branch. I get an email notification when it's ready to be picked up, and I just have to log on or call the branch if I change my mind on the hold, or renew my materials. Our public library system is awesome! The library is very quiet and clean. Librarians and staff go out of their way to make sure that people follow the rules and keep quiet (silence phones, speak softly, etc etc). It's a holy grail for a college student. The only reason I gave it four stars is that it does tend to get smelly and uncomfortable at times because it IS a Public library after all, and homeless people tend to loiter there. I'm all for them finding a nice and quiet place to relax, but it's uncomfortable sometimes. read more

It was 528, they closed at 530. They literally told me "Just come back Monday, it ONLY takes 5 Minutes ". Maybe the city needs to RE-train their employees on CUSTOMER SERVICE. I've been an LAPL patron for almost 40 years and have never had the problems I've had with this branch. Before I moved to the area I used the Woodland Hills branch without incident for almost 10 years. Twice in the last six months I have returned books to Granada Hills and not had them checked in. The first time, two children's books from the same series were listed as not returned. As I had left these in a Book Drop (something I try to avoid), I feared the worst, but on my next visit to the library I checked the shelves and saw both of the books were there. I told the librarian at the check-out counter and was basically reprimanded for checking on this myself without telling them first, since someone could secretly slip books back on the shelf and say they were there the whole time. An apology for a major error instead of suspicion would have been nice, but I was just glad to get it resolved. Then another unidentified book popped up as overdue last month. I say "unidentified" because of the library's ridiculous system of having some books show as "Paperpack #1" instead of their actual title. I called to ask the title of the book and immediately recognized it as something I had returned many weeks earlier. I told the woman it had been returned and she said, "Oh it must not have been checked in here yet. Give it time." Maybe two weeks later, I asked a parent friend who was going to the library to check the shelves and see if the book was there. Sure enough, it was. In the meantime, I went to renew some of my books online and saw that the account was locked and a $20 lost book fine had been assessed. I called the library to explain what happened, and the lady said she'd do a "book check," put me on hold, then came back and said the book wasn't there. She transferred me to the head librarian. I told her the situation and she went to check and found it immediately. I asked why the first librarian told me she couldn't find it, and instead of seeing this as a further problem she said the librarian had not told me that she had looked for the book. Excuse me? She most certainly did. The head librarian also said these incidents are rare, so it seems I've beaten incredible odds in having it happen to me twice in a few months, especially after never having it happen before. Can I be the only one? I doubt it. Maybe a little brush-up with your workers on the need to be more thorough with the check-ins might be a good idea. Instead, once again I felt they thought I had slipped the book back onto the shelves. I have spent hundreds of dollars on fines over the years and would happily pay $20 for a lost book if I had lost it. I recommend that anyone who uses this branch take your returns in by hand and make sure they get processed right. read more

I live in one of the close-by apartments so this library is a walking distance from my house. This is a great spot to study and it's so convenient for me to just walk here if I need a quiet place to study. SOME DAYS (like today as I write this), are a little busy than usual. There are kids in here right now and I can't concentrate and I get so distracted. I understand they're kids but I don't think there should be a play section for the kids inside the library. This is supposed to be a QUIET place for everybody. If you want your kids to play there is a park right next to this library just a few steps away. I COULD drive to MidValley but this is closer. I just expect the librarians to impose a calm and quiet environment. read more

Leaving a review because this is my hang out spot almost every Monday with my little sister. It's a bit on the small side but they usually have a very nice selection of new books. The Librarians are always willing to help out in any way possible. Its walking distance from my home and it's next to Petit park. What more can you ask for. read more

I was told I would get a reminder via email. Never got one. When I tried to renew it for a second time on line it said I couldn't because my book was lost. I emailed because it was a Sunday and I got a response back following Wednesday saying the email was forwarded to him (another location of LACounty), he apologized in the email because he was out of the office and couldn't get back to me sooner. The email told me to call to get anything done. I got to speak to a "Pam" who sounded calm but pretty "b*****", and very snobby. I explained how it could be lost and she explained if it was not returned after a certain amount of time it is considered lost status which was totally understood but I told her I renewed it on-line once and when I tried again it was considered lost and I was locked from renewing it. Long story short she told me I owed something ridiculous like $48, penalty and late charge. The book on back said $16.99 retail. I asked her how much if I paid just late charge because it isn't lost and she put me on hold then came back and said it was $17.15 if returned today!??? I was so sick of this that I just said "thank you" and before I could finish the "you" part she hung up on me! read more

I been here twice and first time here i saw two workers wearing Donald Trump shirts ...okay im Hispanic and i was kind of offended by that ...next time i went my baby 20 month old ran past the information desk my baby was told not to run , I laughed in my head because the 100 yearold white lady told my baby not me as i followed behind her,so i hoped on the computer to print some items.It was my husband turn to watch her the same lady told him it to teach my 20 month old baby some manners ....he was very offended by this worker or volunteers comments we left and we went to another library to pick out some baby books&dvds...we usually go to midvalley library where all the workers and volunteers are very nice and we have never been told anything about our baby but unfortunately it was flooded and has been closed for a few weeks .....we wont be going back to the granadahills branch do to it not being Hispanic baby friendly library read more
