Started with the stuffed potato, packed with meat and cheese, served with a pink sauce on the side. The sauce is great, but the potato itself is the surprise. If you've never had deep fried mashed potatoes, this is your sign. It somehow defies physics. Good enough on its own to be the reason you walk in. Then the star of the show: the Cuban. I didn't do anything fancy, just asked for the Cuban and got it. About 17 bucks, and it shows up as big as my face. Two halves, pressed perfect, and the first thing that hits is the pork. Really flavorful, and they did not skimp. They went a little heavy on it, which on a sandwich like this is exactly what you want. Mustard and mayo pulling it together, and the whole thing holds. I got nothing bad to say. For the price point, this is legit. A face-sized, properly pressed Cuban with pork that carries the whole sandwich, from a family that earned this location one Soda City Saturday at a time. It's crazy how it took me coming to Columbia, SC to get Cuban food this good. I lived in Miami for over 15 years and this is the best Cuban I've gotten outside of Miami and New York. I came to Columbia for work. It's a small spot but very warm and inviting. Decorated with traditional Cuban decor and murals. Love the atmosphere. The owner and wait staff are EXTREMELY nice. The food was ON POINT!!!! The croquettas were excellent. I had the Churrasco with white rice and black beans and it was VERY good. My sister had the yuca con mojo and it was SO GOOD!!!! Seven of our ROMEO group went here for lunch today. It was our first time and we got there about 11:15. Fortunately our waitress Lorena got us a table for seven. The restaurant is fairly small with about ten tables (seated for 2 and 4 mostly) with a few bar stools along counters by the window. She took our drink orders. They've got soft drinks, reguar coke and "real coke" with sugar cane from Mexico. She gave us a couple of recommendations and we ended up ordering 2 Cuban sandwiches (very large and very good), 4 orders for the Pan con Bistec and one order for black beans and rice with Pernil. The Bistec sandwiches were also huge, with panini'd Cuban bread and a great flavored steak, but the meat was not tender and you really couldn't eat is like a sandwich...you almost had to cut it with a knife. The black beans and rice looked great and the pork also looked good. I ordered a beef empanada just to try. It was good...pressed beef with a side of thousand Island dipping sauce. Two of the guys ordered them to take home and we had one order for a dessert to take home. The sandwiches were huge and all six of us that ordered them had to take half the sandwich home with us. Atmosphere was a bit loud and had a lot of great Cuban signs and posters. Lorena was excellent as our waitress. I'm sure we'll go back. I've heard the Churrasco steak is excellent. My Dominican coworker recommended this spot, so she , I amd 2 others came for lunch. The place is well decorated with Cuban memorabilia, and the tv happened to be showing the World baseball Classic, which is on par with the atmosphere. The staff are very friendly amd have great recommendations. The food came out in a timely manner and the portions were awesome! My family and friends bought food from the Cuban Corner at Soda City downtown Columbia on Saturday and the food was absolutely amazing especially the tamales.
