The depot was built in 1892 by the Chicago & Northwestern Railway. Most of the station was used for…read morefreight with a smaller ticket window and waiting area. The depot served the community, formerly known as Buckhorn, especially after John and Patrick Cudahy bought 700 acres and built a meat packing plant. The growth of the business required an influx of workers, many immigrants who arrived through this very station. Patrick Cudahy owned the land and allowed the C&NW to build the depot but maintained interest in the land. The C&NW ended passenger service to Cudahy in 1940 although freight service continued. When freight service was discontinued, the depot fell into disuse and disrepair. It was doomed to the wrecking ball in 1971, but the Cudahy Historical Society was founded in 1972 with the express purpose of saving the depot. A successful petition forced the city rescind the condemnation order. The Cudahy Family passed the depot and the land to the Cudahy Historical Society. In 1983, it was declared a county landmark. In 1989, a generous grant from the Patrick and Anna Cudahy Foundation was used to restore the depot with labor provided by volunteer members of the historical society. The depot is a museum now. It is open the last Saturday of the month, April through October. I'm only giving it three stars for now, because I've not seen the inside. The outside is certainly impressive, and this is a great example of an extant structure, once common but now seldom seen.

Ever since I was a little kid riding my bike around Bay View, the Pryor Avenue Iron Well was the…read moreplace to go for ice cold water with a hint of Iron flavor for a water bottle. In 1882 the well started pumping water at a depth of 1500 feet and has been doing so ever since. It is called the Iron well because the water has a lot of iron - you can taste it! So, all you vegans and vegetarians go get some now! This is an artesian well baby! The old timers would come fill up gallons for the home and they would often share stories of how the water would cure your ills if you had any. It has been pumping water for the Bay View area for a long time, and there are still people who come from all around the south side to fill water jugs alongside bicycle riders who also come to fill up and cool off. Now, there are two spigots and they prefer the folks who are filling up jugs, and you are not supposed to use a hose, and I think you can fill a 5 gallon jug easily without it, but I have seen old timers break the rules! Yep! I did! You don't know Bay View till you have tried the water or had a seat on one of the benches provided by the Bay View Garden And Yard Society and talked to the people who swear by the water that bubbles (in Milwaukee water "bubbles" out of "bubblers" ya know!) out of the old iron well. I am sure that if there are Hobbits and Wizards in Bay View, they come here for sure. The water tastes a little or a lot like iron, and I used to dislike it when I was a kid, but I feel healthy drinking it now. The Health Department checks it out to make sure it is healthy, and when Crypto hit back in the day (wow, that sucked!) everyone came here to get water that wouldn't make you - um well forget it. I listed this in Local Flavor, but the Pryor Ave Iron Well is more of a historical landmark in Milwaukee.

It'll only take a few minutes to enjoy this stop but worth the trip if you're a wrestling fan.

The pavilion makes for a great venue. Their main hall is vast (I'd imagine it can fit a solid 150/200 people), and it overlooks the lake. It's definitely more of an old, vintage type vibe inside. The ceiling is really beautiful curved wood too. I thought the staff did a great job serving this big event - all wonderfully kind and it seemed like there weren't any hiccups. I believe Saz's is the catering partner of this venue, and they did a great job. The outdoor beer garden space was wonderful too. Tons of picnic tables, a huge bar, and lots of sunshine to soak up on the beautiful day that it was. When you're in the beer garden area, you can get an even better view of the lake anddd the city skyline. Overall I'd say this is a delightful venue for events!

The lake and beach access make it even better, and the trails and greenery add to the experience. It truly has a bit of everything, which makes it a great spot for families, friends, or a peaceful walk. And it's dog friendly.

I can't believe…read moreI've not reviewed Sheridan yet, as I spent my earliest childhood years nearby, and moved to Cudahy a few years ago, visiting Sheridan almost daily. My favorite things about Sheridan- -Oak Leaf Trail paved path runs through it, for biking, running, walking! -Pond for fishing is stocked w/rainbow trout (confirmed in 2021) Bass, perch, bluegill, koi/carp also can be found in the pond -Lake Views from high bluffs are outstanding, and sunset watching at Lunham/Bottsford Ave bend is popular -Walking paved trail down to Lake access -Picnic areas Sheridan also has a swimming pool with slides, bball courts, tennis courts, softball and hardball diamonds, a playground, a few reservable picnic areas, as well as plenty of land for your own pop-up. Sheridan Park is not as glamorous as other MKE County Parks, but it provides a lot of resources and opportunities to improve the lives of the local community, and that's a great strength!

The staff were super friendly and quick to help out. Also love the layout and the offerings inside. There's ample parking so plenty of room. Really love the gorgeous front entry for a nice place to relax among the flowers.
