This Surfas culinary district shoppe offers all types of cool toys, gadgets and specialty things for those who love the kitchen, cooking, eating and entertaining - that can only be rivaled by its sister locations in the Los Angeles area. A fresh made to order sandwich shop, with daily soups and sandwich specials, chilled cheeses, imported and west coast olives. My boyfriend and I needed a quick bite before our Valentine's Day spa trip. We popped into Surfas Culinary District, and were surprised by a selection of gourmet curiosities, kitchen equipment, and a very friendly counter man making sandwiches and soup. He had the grilled cheese with ALL THE CHEESES, I had a crab cake po' boy with a delicious lemony creamy sauce. Both were delicious, as were our small-batch rootbeer (him) and dry 'Grown Up' cranberry soda (me.) The sample of Thai lemongrass chicken soup we got was piping hot and generous. If it were a chillier day, I think we would have eaten more. My salad was a little underdressed, but the cheese and strawberries made up for it. A word of warning - among the shelves is a display cheese board and knife. The cubes of cheese are plastic and taste slightly funny. Do not try and eat them like I did. read more

Happened upon this creatively stocked foodie store and cafe while visiting Hot Springs for a minute. I'm so glad to have made time to stop in, and could have spent way much more time there than I did (due to trying to fit in other activities). While my family ordered and waited on our amazing lunch at the cafe, I was able to shop and pick up some needed cooking pans and gadgets. The staff was kind and helpful with suggestions and even offered tastings of specialty items. The cafe catered to me as a vegan as well as my vegetarian 10 year-old and omnivore husband. We agreed that it was one of the best meals during our week long AR vacation. Don't miss out! read more

We found this place through the local visitor's center. It's in an old general store near the court house. It's basically part kitchen supply, restaurant supply, gourmet food supply. We were told they're based out of California but their service is definitely helpful and friendly Southern based. Their coolers were full of exotic foods such as buffalo, duck, elk, bison, rabbit, etc. Their fresh cheese selection was small but did include a cheddar produced locally free of hormones and anitbiotics from raw cow's milk. There's also a little lunch & coffee counter. The guy working that day was very friendly. We were told to try their mac & cheese or their gourmet grilled cheese. However he suggested we try their Kobe beef hot dogs. He wasn't wrong. They were fantastic! Very meaty tasting and no nitrate or artificial tasting at all. It came served with a spring salad and freshly toasted almonds with a homemade vinegrette dressing. He suggested we check out their soda cooler and it was quite extensive. They had sodas we'd never heard of so it was like we were kids in a candy store. Which one to pick? All in all, we ended up purchasing 2 packs of the Kobe beef hot dogs to take back home (which come from Idaho). If you pick up one of their brochures at the visitor's center or any of the hotels, you also get a complimentary coffee. We didn't make it back the next morning to try their legendary 72 layer biscuits, so we'll have to try it next time we're in Hot Springs. read more

This location offered two concepts in one building. One was The Kitchen Store, and the other was a cafe. I went for both. The menu was simple, but each item was equally tantalizing. I ended up with the lemon thyme pork with a lemon Caper sauce. It had baby golden potatoes, and I added the drunken black beans, which was a smart choice. My wife had the fork and knife Burger Kama which came with bacon a fried egg and goat cheese. We have the appetizer of tomato basil soup with some homemade saltine crackers. At least that's what they tasted like. There was no part of the meal that we were dissatisfied with. For dessert, I wanted to try the lemon buttermilk pie. This was a great Twist on the traditional dish of buttermilk pie. For me, buttermilk pie usually too sweet, and after the first bite I usually don't want anymore. The tang and tartness of the lemon allowed me to eat more of the pie. The crust and the whipped cream added additional support to take away some of the sweetness. After lunch, I was able to walk and shop The Kitchen Store. I bought measuring spoons that are rectangular, some barbecue sauce, and some cookies. The store also offered tasting of different balsamic vinegars. read more
