I visited Culture house for a DC FRAY event. It was so beautiful and I honestly loved the space. They had a few games outside for patrons to play, the bartender was super sweet and the drinks were pretty good. A bit over priced, but I'm assuming people want to make their money back from Covid. I would love to see an exhibit here or something like that. I feel like it would be such a dope experience. But, I def had fun none the less. Parking was super easy to find and it was a pretty cool turnout. It's an amazing place to take photos. I'd def come again, just for that alone. read more

Free admission. Parking is located on the street. There is a parking lot behind the building, but not sure if it's free. This was my 1st time coming here. Always passes thru the building but never been inside. Coming inside, be ready to immerse yourself in art. There is 2 levels inside the building. It's very cool to walk around the different exhibits. Upstairs has this really cool stage with a nice backdrop. The building has a very retro appearance, but the art inside is really diverse with many different art. There is at least 1 staff present inside the building, but they are mostly there to answer any of your questions. If you come here, please know that photography is fine to be taken here. Not sure about private events / photo shoots. If you come here, it takes about an hour to see everything unless you move faster around the exhibits. read more

Hands down best night life, house music club in DC and it's not even close. This venue has incredible music, vibes, and space to dance!

We weren't actually able to go inside since it was closed so this review is solely based off the outside. I thought it was an interesting piece of art. Every few feet there's a new patch of design and the whole building is covered. It's eye catching and like nothing I've seen before. It's in a very general area, meaning there are residences near so I am interested to know it's history and what it used to be. read more

When we went last February, it was closed (as expected) and the surrounding area had been closed off to traffic. Meaning you would park on the street then walk into the front area of the building. Unfortunately, we were a hair late getting out of our car after parking when two gentlemen moved the barrier to park their cars inside the front area for photos. So we had to wait almost an hour for them to finish taking photos of their cars (they weren't even cool cars IMO ). The area itself doesn't look all that glamorous in person but you can tell that in its prime it was fantastical! The colors and shapes painted on it were beautiful. I wish we visited during an art show but we had gone strictly for the gram. Photos turned out amazing of course. Definitely a great attraction to bring out-of-towners. read more

Tie-dye church transformed to innovative artsy museum with featuring a hip hop pop-up museum exhibit starting from Jan 2019 (not sure when it ends). In a cozy room, the exhibit encapsulates hip hop artists of the 90s - Notorious BIG, Eminem, Wu-Tang, Snoop Dog, and Tupac, OutKast, etc. with customized display cases featuring memorabilia - records, sneakers, jerseys, shirts, jackets, bobble head dolls/figurines, newspaper articles. The autographed collection of mics was pretty impressive and my favorite item along with the Death Records chair! There was a DJ Sat afternoon spinning records and a speaker in the room next door. There's also a large event space upstairs with beautiful murals. As the space is cozy, 45 min is more than enough time to comfortably walk through the exhibit and take pics. There's a small parking lot behind the church and some vibrant murals on surrounding buildings. Although the area is a bit grungy around the outskirts of DC, it's a gem and definitely worth checking out! read more

I went to this space for the vibrant painted exterior. It is stunning to see such bright, vivid colors and patterns all over a traditional seeming building. I visited during the pandemic, but regardless, it looks a a little dilapidated, so I am not sure of the status of the space in terms of a gallery or anything like I've seen online. It would make sense it is closed to the public for now, but I wonder if it is actually closed forever. For now, it is a neat, in my opinion, hidden spot to visit and take pictures. I even saw a couple having their own photoshoot there. read more

The Space: This is one of my favorite event spaces/art gallery because it is such a unique place. It is in the Navy Yard neighborhood and has parking around it. It is in a quiet part of the city, but it can be easily roped into a waterfront exploration day. It is a colorful church that has been repurposed and reinvented into a fun space with a gallery and instagrammable pockets. If you are visiting DC I would definitely make it a destination if you want something unique from the traditional Smithsonian museums. I would check their calendar to see if there are any special events happening. Otherwise, it will take about 15-30 minutes to fully explore the space and take pictures to your heart's content. They usually have rotating exhibits and opens from wednesday - sunday. The best part is that this space is completely FREE! read more

I've never gotten so many Instagram likes in my life. Besides Captain White's, Blind Whino is my favorite building in SW. I dare you to fight back a smile when strolling by this converted church's dip dyed exterior and polka dot exterior. It is a building that is begging to be photographed. The building is owned by a non-profit organization which rents out the venue for exhibits, festivals, parties, live shows and artist workshops and aims to celebrate creativity in the DC area. I recently attended the Amazing Art Jam show here and experienced an impressive mix of all things fun -- live painting, music, cocktails, pop culture art, cosplay fashion show, vintage video game arcade and more. If geeky art shows are not your thing but eating and drinking are, they also have played host to several of the Bendy Brunch series. You can check out their calendar to see their eclectic lineup! This venue gives an entirely new meaning to the notion of, "going to church." This brightly colored space may no longer have a pastor but music and and clapping still occur. The founding seeds planted for this space state that, "art is a catalyst for change." Shane Pomajambo and Ian Callender are right. If you enjoy one-of-a-kind events, this place should go on your "artsy bucket list." There are two floors for dancing or shows. The lower floor has funky seating and the most amazing artwork on the walls, ceiling and floors. Just around the corner are spaces for artwork, paintings and unique display pieces. The upper dance space looks like London's Hippodrome had a baby and left it in the care of this non-profit. There are bars on both floors. Take a peek at the upstairs "choir loft." There is additional seating upstairs that overlooks the dance floor. Peek into every room (not marked "staff only") because you could miss a hidden gem around the corner. The fun is "5 star quality" but there is something to be desired about a teeny coat check area that must get back logged and bathrooms in places that don't make sense. The women's room is in the back of an exhibit space. As the venue gets crowded, you may feel as if you are going in the middle of a roomful of people (the door usually stays propped open). The men's room is out of sight, down a corridor (with about the same privacy level since that door stays propped open). More signage (and either paper towels or a hand dryer) would help. Parking is challenging. If you know the area, you can score one of the few metered spaces that stop requiring change at 6:30pm. Waterfront metro is about half a mile away. I would suggest using Uber or parking at a nearby garage. I googled hotels close by the venue and found one that allowed parking for non-guests. Eat before you visit or take advantage of any food trucks that may be hired by the event planners. Wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking up & down wooden stairs and standing on concrete all night (no elevator). Pack your bag for the perfect evening: earplugs, hand sanitizer, a food bar in case you don't like what the food trucks are selling, a fan if you get hot, a fully charged camera and/or phone, flat shoes & business cards since you will meet really cool people. It's my last year of law school, and I am determined to explore more of the city (and see less of my room). My internship HR recommended Blind Whino as a great place to explore and find new artists. It's super easy to get involved - just go on the website and join its mailing list for events around town. While I haven't been to the actual storefront yet, I was alerted to the G40 Art Summit and was able to get into the art exhibit on H Street last night (for free!). The gallery had so many interesting artworks that showcased the creative artists of DC. Can't wait for future events. read more

Ok, so like any other place like this in dc it changes its theme. I went to this place based on past reviews and I wish I hadn't. The theme they had was political. It was all about Trump. One thing I am not interested in is politics. I can't say I hate this place. I just hated the theme. I had a higher expectation. Gladly I didn't have to pay any money. read more

The Blind Whino is one of the most coolest, photogenic venues in Washington, DC! So colorful and stunning! I love it! It was once a church, but has since been bought out by a non-profit organization and turned into an artsy venue for exhibits, showcases, and live performances. I've been here for a breakdancing competition and a Day of the Dead celebration. This place definitely draws a big crowd. Outside, the building is spray painted with bright colors. Inside is completely spray painted too, but also decorated with amazing local art. Great place to throw a crazy party! Definitely, check this place out! Totally worth making the drive! I love this colorful venue! It is a very creative space. The walls are decorated with art. They even have a life size tree sculpture. The various rooms and floors gives you space to have different events going at the same time. I have attended a festival there a couple of times, and they used the top floor for the concert area. They did an awesome job converting this space into a venue that is well suited for a wedding, concert, fundraiser event or a festival. I follow the venue on Instagram because I can never get enough of seeing the various photos of this beautifully renovation church. read more

Timing: rainy Saturday afternoon. The gallery was essentially empty. Enter through the pink door that is slightly propped open. There's no clear marking and there's numerous other doors that don't open. The church itself is so fun to explore. Even the bathrooms are decorated! Check out the men's bathroom for the rainbow paint splattered room w/ a stool to sit on. This place is great for taking pictures as there's a lot of fun backgrounds. Be sure to walk around every nook and cranny because there is art everywhere! Also, it's completely free! I definitely recommend coming here and then walking over to the Wharf. Any one interested in art, photography, or just getting to know D.C. better should check this place out. read more

*Heart Love Eyes* (x 1,000) We have nothing else like this in DC. For so long DC lacked the urban art culture that so many other cities had booming way before us. So it's really lovely to see all the wonderful additions in DC, and Blind Whino is one! The building itself is a beautiful historic church. And then you add gorgeous colors and art to it?! DUH! How could it not be amazing?! So many weddings and private events happen here, and I can totally see why. Such a wonderful venue space. On top of being a venue space, Blind Whino has rooms that are transformed into art galleries. They feature different artists and exhibits. Although small, definitely a great space. Again, the building alone is amazing enough art to see! I could stare at Blind Whino for days and never get bored. Beautiful. Free parking lot. And plenty of street parking. read more

Review of Blind Whino - Hip-hop Museum Pop-Up Experience If you're reading this it's too late.....unless you stop and go today! The Hip Hop Pop-Up Experience was definitely a treat and a trip down memory lane. Educational as well since I wasn't alive during the birth of Hip Hop. 40 years ago, Rapper's Delight burst onto the scene like a wrecking ball, and everything changed. Come learn about the pioneers and reminisce over greats from Run DMC to Death Row and more. There are albums, tapes, signed memorabilia, VHS of Hip Hop's classic movies, and even a gift shop. The exhibit is quaint but easy to navigate. A live DJ played music as we journeyed through, and there was a live panel discussion about preserving the culture in the next room. Take an old church from the city and make it your own piece of art. Blind Whino is a neighborhood venue. Literally tucked in the quiet block of H St SW. They showcase different artists, organization and host public events in different times of the season. I never knew about this place until I won free tickets from Yelp DC to October Fresh! (Thank you guys). I'm so glad I went. My brother and I had a eventful time. Before going into the airy technicolor church, we spent some time enjoying the outdoors around the picnic area. It was also nice to have the food truck located there too. As we decided to move into the entry/ main space the first reaction we thought- wow it's big and very eclectic. The seating reminds me so much the Victorian style. It's spacious enough to host different vendors and room to mingle and chat with fellow guests. Next to the open (lounge) space, to your left is an entry to the gallery that presents different artwork from local artist. The showcase we saw was Super Fierce. Women artist showing and selling their masterpieces (which is very rare apparently). It was a beautiful experience! Upstairs is another open venue where most major events happen from corporate to weddings. I believe it can hold up to 300 guest. From what I've seen, there are no elevators, just stairs. I'm sure there's an elevator or something for the handicap to access the second floor. If you're wondering, yes, there are public toilets. Haha The Art Club did an amazing job in bringing back life and culture to the church, the community and to ourselves. If you ever want something to do or explore, check out Blind Whino. read more

They rotate art galleries and they pick very local exhibits that represent DC. Blind Whino; an abandoned church turned into an artistic gem. I recently attended their art gallery featuring Wu Tang Clan art pieces. Yes you heard me, Wu Tang Clan *cue I Like It Raw* R.I.P. ODB. True hip hop fans of all ages attended and it was magic. There was also a room serving drinks, wings, and DJs spinning on the ones and twos (yes, DJs that actually know how to DJ). Right off the bat, I welled up with pride and respect for the great people behind Blind Whino. Not only do they appreciate art, but they work hard to preserve culture; to preserve what is real. My girlfriend and I took some dope pictures, drank a few beers, and danced the night away. Definitely a 5 star establishment with the authenticity meter shooting through the roof! Next time Blind Whino throws an event, I highly recommend you readers to hightail it over there. CHURCH! read more

I attended a Sofar Sounds event at Blind Whino and could not have been more excited about this location. When you pull up to the location the first thing is the colorful building and at night it lights up, which makes it look even more mesmerizing. Our event was downstairs in this beautiful hall that had murals everywhere and pillars decorated as trees. I was absolutely shocked by how uniquely beautiful the room was. As you travel upstairs the stairwell is also covered in murals and art, but as you enter upstairs it is absolutely amazing. The upstairs is perfect for concerts as it has a stage, but the murals brings a completely different vibe. This location was so unique and I am thrilled that I was able to experience it. For living in DC for almost a year, how did I just discover this place?!? Blind Whino is a beautiful old church turned into an artistic world that holds an assortment of events!! I went here for the Peace, Love, Yoga Festival (Day Event) and the Cherry Blast (Night Event) - both offering two different experiences. With two floors and several rooms, Blind Whino is the perfect place for any type of event. There are different rooms with several art pieces in the downstairs and the upstairs is just one big room with beautiful murals and art painted on the walls! During the day, the colors of this old church really shine and it's overall just a beautiful and mythical sight. To have a yoga festival here, is probably one of the best ideas ever! On the first floor, it was decorated with cherry blossom paper petals and so many whimsical images. It was really a sight to see while doing YOGA!! And in the night, the colors are not only trippy but it sets the tone for a fun dance party. After going here for the cherry blast, I would go here again in a heart beat!! With a glass of wine, I enjoyed looking through art and dancing in such a colorful and urban-esque environment. Also, huge highlight is the cool winded stair cases and labyrinth like architecture. Wasn't the best idea to run down these with a few drinks in me, but love the structure of this place! Literally one of my favorite venues. I love that it was previously an old church and someone had faith and an eye to restore into a unique and creative venue. I've been to the venue several times and it's used to host various events from local art and gallery shows to live performances and fundraisers. I was just here recently with the Washington Humane Society volunteering for a fundraiser we had to promote awareness for the cats in the community, with different architectural firms and the creative cat shelters they built. It was the perfect venue for the event. I recommend this place to anyone who loves and has an appreciation for urban art. The interior is just as admirable as the exterior with large painted murals. Try to come here when there's an event going on. It can get cramped but it's a lot of fun. One of the best hidden gems of DC. read more

The last time I visited this venue was for the Hip Hop Museum exhibit. Crazy thing is I didn't realize the old homie DJ Boom was the owner of the collection. It was a very cool small collection of hip-hop and Go-go memorabilia. The Death Row Records chair was very coo since you could sit in it, and for me as a former rapper and a current podcast host with a history in radio was the cool mic display. There were mics signed by Redman, Ice Cube, and other hip-hop greats in the two cases. Overall the pop-up showcase was dope and I even saw my old homie DJ RBI from 89.3 FM here in DC. He told me that they were doing a Hip Hop Hall of Fame Induction that night, but I couldn't stay the extra 3 hours till it started.. DAMNIT! Overall the Blind Whino is a grungy artsy fartsy space that also has some outdoor seating and space where they usually have a food truck or something as an option for food. There's a bar inside too, but I'm not sure if it's always open for every event. Go check it out. read more

awesome place! just randomly strolled in with a couple of friends on a warmer than normal December Saturday, and was blown away by the diversity of art work! I dont want to spoil your experience by revealing nook and cranny that blind rhino holds, but I will say that the preservation is amazing. I think that this is truly one of DC's best hidden gems, and everyone from locals from foreigners should visit. Although, I must warn you to be procced with caution while traveling through the surrounding neighborhood- it can be dangerous at times as in many parts of DC. Happy exploring! Don't overlook the local and little things when you visit D.C. I came across this venue & gallery when I was searching the web for stuff to do on my trip. It's out of the way of the typical tourist attractions but DEFINITELY worth a visit. The doors were open for any and everyone to walk in. Music was playing in the venue space and I thought an event was about to start, but I was welcomed in. The artist casually talked to me about his work. Everyone that worked in the arts annex was very friendly. A beautiful experience overall! read more

I don't even know how to explain how dope this place is, first of all it was once a church that was flipped to become and artistic venue and big pierce of art. It really hard to explain , it's one of those things that you have to go see yourself. The first time I went here was for an exhibit held by Art Whino and Boundless Brooklyn called "Destroy and Create" ; an exhibit that was made to honor the skateboard culture. A very hip and a great venue to hold an exhibit. While roaming around I found myself up stairs where you have an open room with graffiti and art on the walls. What I found more interesting is that apparently you can rent out certain floors of the building or even the whole building for events such as wedding receptions and performances. A year ago I was going down the stairs SOBER and someone fell into me and I fell down 5 steps. For 2 weeks I had a bruise all the way down my leg and I could barely walk. We told the event staff at the time AND I WAS BLEEDING AND THEY DID NOT CARE. This year my husband of 2 weeks was going down the stairs and they were slippery and he fell down 5 steps. We told the venue and they did not care at all but kept ushering everyone to leave the venue. They didn't care at all that his ribs were in pain. They couldn't care less. The stairs need to be fixed--this can't keep happening. Sad human beings. Not a venue that actually cares about people but just wants to make money. When we told them we may need to call an ambulance they just said go ahead. Also they had one women's restroom closed entirely and the other only had one working stall. One. For an event of at least 500 people. The men's had no working light but was pitch black. What a pathetic hosting job. read more

This review focuses on the lack of customer service with following up on an inquiry. I was planning a very special event for my fiance and I. I submitted a request through their website which I was told someone would get back to me within 48 hours. After 48 hours, nada! After about a week, I called Blind Whino. (A phone number is hard to locate. Check their Facebook page for a phone number.) No one answered so I left a message. There was still no call back. So, I called again after 3 days. Again, I had no choice but to leave a message. Guess what? Still no call back. Blind Whino sucks at customer service! read more

...if you could take the whole vibe of the movie "DOPE" and place it into a single experience...this place is it. As the previous reviews have explained, it's a converted church. To be honest, it's shockingly beautiful when you first turn the corner and the building suddenly appears. Inside you'll find an art gallery as well as, on the specific day I went, a dance floor and bar. Outside there were tables and seats, hookah, party games (beer pong, etc.) and a food truck. Everything about the atmosphere said "relax and have a great time". The crowd was friendly, the music was bumpin'...and I highly, highly suggest you check it out if you want to vibe out to good times. read more

Went here for an event called Feed it Forward. They made sandwiches to hand out to homeless people around DC. It was a really unique building full of artwork and is painted. Apparently, it is an old abandoned church. It is a pretty cool venue and was a good palce to hold an event. read more
