We went to a mock court scene at The Miracle Theater where we as the audience judged a particular criminal court case which involved a person died to an AI driven vehicle where someone lost his life due to the decision of AI vehicle. A pleasant surprise in DC's theater scene! The Miracle Theatre, one of the city's oldest theaters, is now under new ownership by Union Stage, and they're doing a great job breathing new life into this historic space while keeping its charm intact. I was invited to attend a Moth storytelling event here and it was such a refreshing night out. The stories were heartfelt, funny, and sometimes deeply vulnerable in the best way. The host kept the energy going all night and was absolutely hilarious. It was the kind of clean fun that reminds you how powerful a room full of people sharing stories can be. The theater itself adds to the experience. Being inside feels like stepping back into the good old days before everything was streamed and watched at home. If you're feeling a little nostalgic for live entertainment and the magic of gathering together for a shared experience, this is the place. Definitely check out their lineup. It's a great excuse to get out of the house and enjoy something real, live, and memorable. read more

This was my first time attending Miracle Theater. Was here for The Jury Experience -- Death on the Port Side (found via FEVER app) they have a few other cases but this was the one my bf and I went to tonight. I must say, this was a GREAT experience. Something different. Very interactive, comic, and the case was super interesting. It's something to do just for fun. Nothing serious. DEF would recommend if ya'll have some free time. Don't have too many photos as they did not allow videos or photography during. Miracle theater = was a retro old school feeling but somehow it fits the vibe. Parking = we parked in a garage (8 minute walk) however there is limited street parking If you do end up going to the Jury Experience, I recommend sitting in Section A and getting there early to get good seats. First come first serve basis. I purchased Section B tix but it was kinda far back -- the photo they had on the event page showing each section, Section B looked super close but no lol. I really enjoy the Miracle Theater and highly recommend it. Anytime I go (typically for May the Fourth: Star Wars 'A New Hope' showing), it is well organized and feels like a real movies experience. I haven't stopped raving about Miracle theater since my first visit. $8 tickets ($6 matinees iirc) and really convenient to get to! my bus route (C53) takes me from my house straight there, it's incredible. I came here for Fever's Candlelight concert. The theater is very vintage. It has a very antique vibe, so keep that in mind. Overall it was a good venue for the show. I showed up early to ensure we got a good seat. They had popcorn and some drinks at the concession stand, but there were not cupholders which made having a drink kind of awkward. Beautiful quaint theater in Southeast DC mixed in with rows of restaurants for pre and post show meals. There isn't a bad seat in the theater because it is so small. As soon as you enter the lobby, the auditorium is about 10 steps away. The seats were comfortable. I'm 5"8 and it didn't feel cramped. I sat on the far right side of the stage, aisle seat and had perfect view of the stage. The concession stand had limited options: popcorn and candy bars, wine in can, beer in can, bottled juices and water. There is street parking right outside the theater. What an adorable little theatre! I found it by accident trying to complete my Oscars watchlist and I'm so glad I did. It feels like stepping back in time when movies were new and exciting still. I got the ticket, popcorn, and a bottle of water for under $20. My only complaint is that the chairs could use some oiling. Anytime someone stood up during the movie, the seat part of the chair slammed shut and startled me out of the film. But otherwise I hope they continue to succeed! read more

Charmingly old-school venue, convenient location (near Eastern Market metro), creative programming, but a terrible lack of ladies' room. The Miracle, now 112 years old (!), is both a movie theatre and a concert venue. We came here for Listeso Quartet's candlelight concert; great atmosphere, great vibe. They sell popcorn and drinks too (a pleasant surprise). The lobby and staircase were decorated for Christmas. The glaring problem is a lack of facilities. Like at any theatre / concert venue, I am prepared to wait in line for the restroom, so my expectation was pretty low. The line here was formed in the crowded, small lobby, as there's no space inside the ladies' room to form a line. There are only two stalls inside, and one sink. The whole space is cramped, and it takes a lot of tip-toeing and ballet dancing to get around other girls. When it was finally nearly my turn (I was right at the door), a girl came out of the auditorium, pretended not to see the long line, and waltzed right past me into the restroom, just like that. Boom! It felt like being punched in the stomach when -- being stuck in the long and non-moving line -- I saw a huge banner, in golden letters, saying GENTLEMEN, by a staircase going downstairs. As it turns out, there's a men's room downstairs, but not ladies' room. Upstairs, there's just this tiny ladies' room with two stalls. There's also another restroom but it's all genders, which men are using. That means men have way more access to the facility than girls. This is probably one of the worst venues in terms of potty parity. read more

The concessions are very reasonably priced compared to some of the larger movie theater chains, and the popcorn is exactly what you want in a theater. The theater itself is very intimate for a concert setting, which creates a great vibe for smaller, more indie acts. The chairs are relatively comfortable, although probably not exactly what you'd expect in a movie theater. Small, quaint art house and theater. This is an older style theater with small auditorium seats. The rows are tight. But, it gives you that nostalgia. I came here recently for a book tour and never knew this place existed! This space is so small, cute, and vintage and the staff was so kind. The popcorn also smelled really good! I would LOVE to go back and try the popcorn. I paid about $4 for a Strawberry Lemonade in a glass bottle and it was so good. Not too sweet but all of the flavors are there. I hate this place a very particular reason. Candle lit orchestra thing was to be here, I showed up 2 minutes after they started playing, yes, I know I am not early, but my family was inside they texted me that it had just started and it was exactly 2 minutes. They wouldn't let me in blaming it on some imaginary app. Worst of all, the inside was only 1/3 at most full, practically empty, I couldn't have disturbed one bit. When you walked in there are two counters one serving popcorn and candy like a real movie theater and the other side tot he left serving alcoholic beverages. The only issue I had was the butter for the popcorn, when you pushed the button for the popcorn it sprayed on your clothes :( other than that the theater was nice and the candles for the Beyonce tribute we're beautiful. Even though you had tickets for section A and B people generally sat were they wanted so don't spend more money on section A. Just went to a candlelight concert at miracle theater. Never mind the fact that it's not really all it's cracked up to be. They were very diligent about closing the doors at 9 PM when the concert started so that it wouldn't be interrupted by people coming and going. Nevertheless, the staff in the lobby was so damn loud. You could hardly hear the music. They were shouting and laughing, and carrying on as if they were in their own nightclub. read more

Chairs are really uncomfortable, even by old theatre standards. Our experience was ruined by the person sitting in front of us turning around and hurling an anti-Semitic slur at myself and my friend halfway through the movie. Kind of ironic to travel across DC, spend money, wait in the rain, and sit through an earnest pitch about how important it is to come to independent theaters instead of staying at home and streaming movies on the couch, only to have someone spew hatred at me and my guest. The miracle theater is a quaint theater on the 8th Street corridor in Washington DC. My family and I went to attend a candlelight showcase of Disney movie songs. The theater is small but intimate just like I like it. I much prefer a smaller, more intimate theater than the grand show halls are even sports arenas that are used for concerts. Food and beverages are basic. They have sodas canned alcoholic beverages, popcorn candy. So think of a movie theater without the movie. The service is nice. All of the employees seem very attentive to all those in attendance and were quick to help when needed. The seats are small as the theater is older. The sight lines can be difficult depending on who sits in front of you. It's not stadium styled seating but rather the old school slope seating setup so someone tall sits in front of you you may have to look around them as my children had to do. The performance was great as all of the performers played their instruments very well. The sound was decent for it to be such an old theater. The stage and set up was good. It was a very good experience. I would certainly revisit the miracle theater on another occasion. read more

I went to the Miracle Theatre for the first time to see 'Get On Your Knees' (@goykshow on Instagram) which was, as an aside, one of the funniest 80 or so minutes of my life, a feat in and of itself and more impressive given the primary subject of the show: blow jobs and that 'most delicate flower' the penis. Y'all should really check it out. But back to the theatre. I loved it for so many reasons, let me enumerate at least some of the reasons you might like it too: 1. It's not generic- I feel dead inside when I'm in one of those venues which could really be any venue, anywhere..named for a corporate sponsor and with aesthetics that would not be out of place in an aldous huxley novel. This place has charm. From the lit marquee outside with old school block letters, to the smell of popcorn (which comes with your choices of toppings including salt, butter, and/or old bay seasoning), to the quirky charm of the main theatre when its balcony and velvet curtains (ok, they might not be technically velvet but they are def energetically velvet). 2. The staff is fantastic: they're thoughtful, knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. They'll help you find the right seat, the right snacks and the right kind of liquored up (if that's your jam). 3. The crowd: I rarely see a multi-racial, cross generational, queerish to straight crowd, gathered in one place in DC (outside of 12 step programs) but it can be found here and the whole experience is better for it. 3. The neighborhood: it's cute and walkable with options for great bars, restaurants, and ice cream stores all around. I love this place so much I don't even mind that I lost my fav baseball cap there (black hat with a small fox on it team miracle if you're reading this). This place makes DC a little more interesting and a little more charming and your experience all the more memorable. read more

We went there to see Beth Neilson Chapman for a concert. Cold rainy March Friday night. Even though I'm from DC I don't get there too often anymore. Fortunately my GPS found the theater and we found a parking spot on the street about 1/2 block away. Free. We walked towards the theater hoping to find a restaurant on the way. We did. Had a good meal and arrived at the theater in plenty of time for the concert. Apparently it is a restored movie theater although I don't remember it. Perfect venue for a concert. Very cozy. Small stage. Very intimate. They sell the usual movie theater snacks and some adult beverages. Lots of restaurants in the neighborhood. Very near the Nationals Stadium. It you know that part of town you know it has undergone a revitalization in the last few years. Very near the Navy Yard and Capitol Hill. If you're healthy walking should be no problem. We're both in our 70's and husband has some mobility issues but even still, everything was easy to navigate. read more

If I could give them a zero I would. We booked the entire upper balcony for our daughter's birthday party to see "Sing 2". Everyone arrived for "Sing 2"and we were informed that, without any notice, they changed the movie to "Encanto", a movie that has been out for 3 months. All the kids attending the party have seen Encanto multiple times. We had confirmed "Sing 2" 4 days prior. After acknowledging the change of movie they said that they couldn't change the movie back to the one we booked under because it had been advertised as Encanto despite the fact that we had purchased 14 tickets with our birthday party and they only had 8 tickets from the general public. Our daughter has seen Encanto no less than 5 times as have all of the party participants so we had to leave and go to a park instead. It has to be one of the most unprofessional and inexplicable experience I've ever had with a birthday venue. Sure, they reimbursed the tickets but they completely ruined an 11 year old's birthday party through utter incompetence and inflexibility. Never again. read more

This theatre is an excellent example of the quirky charm found D.C. historic neighborhoods. The pictures on the walls provide a glimpse what Navy Yard looked like in the past, and the decor gives the impression that the theatre would have looked the same 50 years ago. While this theatre is clearly not new, it makes up for some of its wear, with comfortable seats, interesting decor, nice acoustics, and moderately prices snacks. You can smell the popcorn when you walk in the doors. We went to a live show here, and we're pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome. From the friendly staff to the home-y feeling, it was a nice evening out. Some of their live events are 21+, but they also show movies that would make an excellent outing for kids and parents alike. read more

This is a very cute venue smack in the middle of the Eastern Market neighborhood. My first time here, I can only say I was charmed by the incandescent bulbs framing the theaters name, and the nights event in old-school style block letters. The theatre has at least one main room, which seats about ~200ish? people, with an upper balcony. There is no stadium seating, so if the man in front of you is tall, you'll be stuck looking side to side to view the front of the room. Acoustics quality of the room was also good last night, sitting in the back I didn't feel my eardrums bleeding, but also could almost make out the details of the emcees face. From outside on the steer you won't hear anything when the theatre doors are closed. Bathrooms are small and clean, and they have at least one family friendly/gender neutral room. The alcohol vendors they were using that evening had some stellar craft (canned) beer selection, at $6 a serving, but they would make you get in a different (and equally as long) line for snacks or a bottle of water (at $3, better just being your own); something about being different vendors - go figure. They have all the popcorn and chocolate/candy fare to cover most taste profiles, but I couldn't speak to that, I was nursing my beer. Very cute place, family and date friendly, and does more than just screen movies, as last night was a storytelling series. Be sure to catch an event here! read more

This is such a gorgeous venue!! As a mom I don't have a lot of free time to watch movies without a lot of planning ahead of time. So when I had a free evening, I knew I had to watch the Avengers Endgame which was just about to leave the theater so it wasn't playing at many venues. But it was playing at The Miracle Theater! I've never been to before and wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a treat! Only $8 to see a movie in such an aesthetically pleasing charming local theater, the kind that only plays one movie at a time. Staff was really friendly. The one thing to note though is that the theater doesn't slope very much and the seats are packed together. The theater only half filled up so there were plenty of open seating left; still I felt like the people who did sit by me were sitting WITH me. If you're claustrophobic or simply like to know that no one is breathing down your neck while watching a movie, take note. The other thing is the screen is a little smaller than your normal AMC and Regal movie theaters, but you get used to it. Also the air conditioning was on full blast, and the chill helped keep me alert along with all the action on the screen. I would definitely be back, armed with a sweater! read more

My wife and I have now seen Jon Foreman in concert twice at the miracle theatre. It's a great local feeling, intimate venue. My biggest complaint is the lack of rules about folks going right up to the stage. Unfortunately, the stage is not elevated and the slope of the floor is fairly moderate. The result is that once a group has formed around the stage, there isn't much of the artist or band that is visible to the bulk of attendees. I would imagine the above complaint is negated during seated events but certainly be aware of this if you're going to the miracle theatre for live music. read more

Nothing fancy but such a neighborhood gem. The movie theater is the old school layout where the theater doesn't slope too much (so make sure nobody sits in front of you). But the price of admission is definitely budget/family friendly, as are the concessions prices. Everyone who works here is super nice. If you don't feel like you need to see a movie in a reclining chair with all the latest bells and whistles, this is a fine place to catch a movie and even bring a date. read more
